My Top 24 Favorite Purchases of 2024

December 30, 2024

As we get ever closer to wrapping up this year, I’m thinking back over how I built my wardrobe and used it these past 12 months. Like many of you, I benefited greatly from our 2024 style series, Define Your Style…Refine Your Wardrobe. In fact, I actually purchased fewer things this year because I was more strategic about building a wardrobe that truly reflects my personal style. Today I’m sharing my top 24 favorite purchases that really helped me to create stylish outfits on the repeat in 2024.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

I’m not putting these in any particular order. Honestly, that list would change on any given day, and especially as the seasons turn. I’ve also not included any items in my list that I did not actually purchase with my own money or loyalty points. I was gifted A LOT of beautiful fashions and accessories this year in exchange for or as part of brand collaborations, and I always selected those myself, so I guess I could have included them. But I wanted to see where I spent my money because I tend to make those decisions a little more strategically. Let’s see what I’ve loved this year!

Veronica Beard Suede Blazer

Like I said, no particular order…but this Veronica Beard Duane suede blazer is definitely one of my favorite items in my closet. I hope to enjoy it for years.

Suede is trending for fall and winter

I’ve always loved suede, and I don’t mind wearing it at all. If I lived in the Pacific Northwest where it rains more frequently, I might feel differently about adding it to my closet. But in my climate I should be able to wear this stylish blazer with jeans dozens of times each year, and that’s definitely my favorite way to wear it. The quality is amazing and the hue is perfect for my coloring.

Black Paige Sasha Wide Leg Jeans

I snagged these black wash Paige Sasha wide leg jeans in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and I’m so glad I did. They’ve been a workhorse in my wardrobe this fall and winter.

UNTUCKit for the Holiday Party Season

These jeans are very popular and the reviews are always good, as they fit so many body types beautifully. They have a 32″ inseam, so they’re great with a heel. See a full range of wash options at Paige. And there they also have them in a 30″ inseam for petites, too. But right now these are marked down 25% at Nordstrom (as I write this post). You’ll find some petites in the mix there, too.

L.L. Bean Barn Jacket

I wore this L.L.Bean barn jacket just yesterday. It was rainy and blustery, but not too cold. So this lined jacket was just right for the day. This is definitely a jacket I wear mostly with blue jeans, but hey, I’m a blue jean gal, so that works fine for me.

2 More Ways to Style the Trending Barn Jacket

Barn jackets and coats have been trending this year, so these authentic jackets from L.L.Bean are basically sold out. But my bet is they’ll restock sometime soon because L.L.Bean has carried this jacket for years.

Denim Trouser Jeans

Here’s another pair of jeans I’ve really enjoyed this year, the J.Crew denim trouser jeans. Like most everyone else, I suppose, it has taken me a while to adjust to the wider leg jean silhouettes. I think the key is finding what really works for you.

And these styles that are wide in the leg from bum to boot are definitely best for me. I prefer the look over flare or bootcut jeans for me. Once you find the jeans that really work for you, I think you just need a few pair, maybe a light wash, dark wash and black. These light wash jeans are marked down, but only available in the larger sizes, and they are final sale. I can tell you they run true to size; I’m wearing a 30 very comfortably.

Gold Leaf Sam Edelman Slingbacks

I purchased the gold leaf Sam Edelman Bianka slingbacks early in the spring, and I’ve worn them in every season. I took them on my cruise to wear each evening, too.

These pretty, trending metallic slingbacks are great with jeans, but also dresses and other pants. They’re still in stock and such a smart purchase. I actually have these shoes in other fabrications, too, and love them all. So comfortable!

Cotton Silk Shirt

As much as I love my Frank & Eileen shirts, I do love this cotton silk shirt from Me+Em even more. The silk and cotton blend makes it super soft and lightweight. And the striped pattern is dainty and fresh.

I know this shirt will be in my wardrobe for years. I’m leaning into silky, soft button-up shirts more and more often these days. And the quality and detailing on this one makes it so versatile.

Black Quilted Coat

I purchased the navy Stowe jacket from J.Crew last year, so I didn’t even hesitate to add this black quilted version to my closet this fall. It’s really just the right weight for the climate where I live. And I think the black with all the gold hardware is so chic and sophisticated.

Unfortunately the black is sold out, but it’s still available in other colors. And the Stowe is currently marked down.

Navy Wool Blend Coat

I purchased this navy wool blend double-faced coat for a Nordstrom collaboration (they’re one of the view brands that don’t gift you any product when you work with them, so I did purchase this one on my own). I didn’t really expect to like it as much as I do. But it’s a winner! And I’ll be wearing it for years to come.

This coat is truly luxurious, and the navy is a nice addition to my outerwear wardrobe. It’s still available and marked down. The coat runs true to size; I’m wearing a medium.

New York Travel Set

I’ve had a lot of Frank & Eileen gifted to me because I’ve worked with them a lot. But I’ve also purchased a fair share from them, too. And this New York travel set has definitely been my favorite of the travel sets. When I purchased the set it was new on the scene and only available in royal navy, otherwise I probably would have gotten the black.

I like this set because you can wear it different ways. I like it with a tee under it, but you can also wear the shirt alone and buttoned up. Or you could wear a button-up shirt under it, too. And I definitely like this style of pant, too.

Cognac Leather Sandals

It’s funny how sometimes the simplest things in your wardrobe end up doing more of the heavy lifting. That was definitely the case with these cognac sandals from Everlane. They’re actually called the Day crossover sandals, and they’ve been carrying them for at least a few years now. And Everlane calls the color Sienna Brown.

What makes these sandals so great? The 100% leather upper is buttery soft. And unlike many similar sandals, these feature a flexible footbed, so they are very comfortable to walk in and stay on your feet nicely. If you read my recent Top 24 Favorite Outfits of 2024 blog post you know I wore these almost daily in the summer. They run true to size and come in other colors, too.

Wexford Wide Leg Pants

I’m so glad to see that Frank & Eileen has already announced that the Wexford wide leg pants are back for 2025. To me, these are their most comfortable pant, and they’re definitely the best fit for me personally. These linen pants feature a high rise waistband, a zip and fasten closure, belt loops and pockets. Oh, and unlike so many of their other pants, these have a finished hemline, too.

Linen Separates to Wear Now and Later
Wexford wide leg linen pants // see original blog post here & here

I have these linen pants in black, cement, white and red (no longer available), and I could have included all of them in this list. But that would have been redundant, so I chose the black ones as my absolutely don’t want to live without them choice. They seem to be sold out right now in black, but they’ll be back I’m sure. And they do have other colors in right now. They fit generously true to size; I wear a 10.

Khaki Linen Skirt

I don’t wear a lot of skirts; I find them hard to style. And, let’s face it, when you’re on the larger size, it’s a little tricky to find a flattering skirt and wear it in a way that doesn’t make you look all the larger. When I heard that fuller, longer skirts were trending, I decided to give them a go. But I knew the key would be finding one with a nice drape. That makes all the difference in the world, especially when you’re not a size 2. Know what I mean?

The Trending A-Line Skirt

So this is one of those examples of where quality really makes a difference. I tried other skirts, but the fabric made the skirts poof out more at the hips, exactly where I do not need added fullness. But this linen skirt from Veronica Beard has a lovely drape and perfect construction. I think it will serve me well for years. Unfortunately, it’s sold out.

Liberty of London Floral Print Shirt

My Liberty of London floral shirt from Frank & Eileen is no longer available either. But it’s a great example of why their shirts are such winners. They always choose the most beautiful and softest fabrics to work with.

Linen from Frank and eileen

I really enjoyed wearing this shirt this past summer, and I’m eager to pull it out again this spring.

Eileen Fisher Light Reed Jacket & Wide Leg Cargo Pants

I decided to group these two pieces together since that’s really how I prefer to wear them, like a travel set. And that’s exactly the purpose for which I purchased the Eileen Fisher light reed jacket and wide leg cargo pants. I bought them to wear on our trip to the New York Finger Lakes, and that’s what I did!

Reed coordinates

I sized down to a small int he jacket, but I’m wearing a medium in the pants. I think this is such a classy looking duo, but also comfortable and durable. I even did some hiking in this outfit the last day we were in New York. But I imagine I’ll be wearing this set on the airplane when we travel to Tucson in late February, too.

White Linen Button Up

I do love Frank & Eileen button-up shirts, and this year I purchased the Eileen white linen button up shirt. I’ve had several white linen shirts over the past few years, but this one is my all-time favorite. That’s saying something, because I’ve put it against my Eileen Fisher, J.Jill, Chico’s and Talbots shirts.

Again, Frank & Eileen just always have the best fabrics. I’m a very tactile person. The way things feel is of super importance to me.

Madewell Perfect White Jeans

I was influenced by another influencer to try these Madewell Perfect vintage white jeans. And oh my! They truly are perfect. It looks like they may be phasing them out, but you never know. They’re really a soft white or even ecru.

Tile White 90's straight leg crop jeans two ways

I’ve shown these jeans with multiple ways to wear them this year. You can certainly wear them year round, but I’ve put mine away until spring. They run a little large; I’m wearing a 29 comfortably. I love having white jeans in my wardrobe for spring and summer, but these trumped all others for me this year. The silhouette, the rise and the color are just perfection.

Wild Orchid Linen Pants

You may remember that I included this all purple outfit in my 24 favorites of the year. The wild orchid linen pants are not only a beautiful color, but they also feel and fit great.

Styling Wild Orchid Two Ways with J.Jill

I wear a lot of neutrals, but having these feminine, bolder pants in my closet this summer was a lot of fun. They are still available and deeply discounted.

Denim Shorts

Just when I thought I was ready to swear off denim shorts, I came across these from Talbots. Perfection.

Denim Shorts with Pretty Tops

Of course these shorts are sold out. But I think it’s worth noting that these have a high rise, a 5″ inseam (for Misses) and are made from a 89% cotton, 9% polyester and 2% Spandex blend. That combination definitely made for a winner short in my book. They are so comfortable, but still look decent and appropriate for casual settings.

Talullah Silk Camp Shirt

Ooh! Here’s another big favorite. Again, this silk shirt wasn’t inexpensive. And I don’t know that it ever went on sale either. But I wore the dickens out of this blue Talullah silk camp shirt by Tommy Bahama, as well as the melon red one I also have.

Madewell Jeans

I really hope they come out with similar shirts this spring and summer. They both made getting dressed so easy. Just top your favorite jeans, shorts or linen pants with a silk button-up shirt in a pretty color and you’re good to go!

Vince Wide Leg Trousers

This past summer it became very popular and on trend to wear your sneakers with full length, wide leg trousers. And I was all in. I’ll definitely wear this combo again this spring and summer, too. One of my favorite pairs of trousers for this look was these Vince linen blend trousers.

Year of the Trouser

They’re no longer available, but I’ll be pulling these out again this summer.

Ribbed Jersey Graphic Tee

I know this t-shirt is no longer available, too, but I had to include it in my list. I snagged these chic graphic tee on a lark last January, and it’s been a workhorse in my closet all year long. I even wore it just recently.

Styling the Veronica Beard Miller dickey jacket

I think the lesson here is that you can get a lot of mileage out of the simplest pieces sometimes. You have to have those basics that are just a little “extra” in order to make your other basics come together in an interesting way. I’ll be looking for more tops like these because I want to be able to direct you to them.

Veronica Beard Miller Dickey Jacket

I’d had the navy Veronica Beard Miller dickey jacket in my closet for a few years, but I’d always wanted the black one. So this year I bit the bullet. And I’m so glad I did. I don’t have any regrets about having two of these jackets.

In fact, I would go so far as to say that this one jacket is probably my best purchase of all in about five years. Those gold buttons (it is also available with silver buttons) and the silhouette just elevate any outfit effortlessly. These jackets are so worth the investment to me. They’re comfortable, well-crafted and absolutely stunning. I have a blog post here all about styling them. But if you’d like a similar jacket for a fraction of the cost, check out the similar ones here.

Linen Way-High drape pants from Everlane

I love my Frank & Eileen Wexford linen pants for more casual outfits, but these Everlane Way-High drape linen pants were my go-to choice for more elevated looks.

The high waistband and full length of these trousers make them a little more dressy, but you can still style them casually, too. I actually styled them both ways in the blog post linked above. The pants are still available and come in other colors, too.

Navy Jogger Set

And finally, I had to include my navy jogger lounge set from Lake Pajamas because I’ve practically been living in them lately. Truly, the cost-per-wear is going down fast as I often change into them at the end of the work day. They make the evenings so much more relaxing and enjoyable.

The jogger set runs true to size; I wear a large per their size guide. And they come in grey, too. So tempting!

  1. These wide ranging evaluations are very helpful. Especially the purchases you regret. It helped me think critically about my wardrobe. I think I just learn to keep wearing what I buy because I have a smaller clothing budget these last years & so I don’t keep in mind why they don’t work well & am prone to repeat the mistakes.

  2. I did purchase the barn jacket from L L Bean and love it. I have wanted a barn jacket for a while now and pulled the trigger. I would like to purchase a white linen button blouse for Spring and Summer and am leaning toward the Eileen one you suggested. Though you always look so great in your outfits, sometimes they are a little casual for me but give me many ideas. You look so good in your style, My style is Classic, Elevated, and Elegant. Have a blessed New Year.

  3. I just started following you the end of Summer so only thing on this list I bought was the denim shorts, but I LOVE them. They are so comfortable and the perfect length as I’m really not that confortable wearing shorts these days.

  4. What purchases did I love this year???? Well there are a couple which are a result of what you have shown, described and taught us about style. With your love of linen, I purchased my first linen trousers and enjoyed them immensely this past summer. My every day favorite uniform is belted jeans with a t-shirt or sweater and I now have a full compliment of nice belts. I love my cotton fisherman knit sweater and white pin tuck flare jeans. I’m purchasing fewer patterns and enjoying more neutrals. Truth be told, my one admiration is your beautiful collection of blazers and I wish and wine just a little whenever you show them. A Veronica Beard Dickey blazer is not in my budget and so today when you linked us to the Quince similar that is on sale, I jumped on it. Hoping the fit and feel is similar. Thank you for all you share with us.

  5. Nice line up of favorite purchases. When looking at the trouser jeans option you showed, I have had issues with J Crew being too large in the waist where they fit well in the hip. I am hourglass silhouette and have problems finding a label that works with this body type. What recommendations do you have for those of us in this category?

  6. Kay…this is off topic but I wanted you to know how I admire your positive and loving attitude about not being with your family right at Christmas. We have grown children and grandchildren with whom we see at Christmas. I often think spending Christmas apart from them would be terribly sad and lonely. You have given me new perspective on that. Being with my husband, worshipping the Lord and celebrating His birth are the foundations of a genuine and meaningful Christmas tradition. Knowing that Christmas may require adjustments in the future as life is all about change I now have a better attitude about embracing those changes. You are a role model of grace as well as an effective teacher of wardrobe style. Thank you for sharing yourself and your talents with us. May you have a healthy and blessed new year.

  7. All of the clothes that you show are beautiful most of them are way out of my budget. however, I’m thinking that maybe this year 2025 I should start doing what you have done and purchase a few items that are high-end and not so many low end things, since I have a closet full of clothes. my question is on the Veronica Beard Dickie jacket. I’m not sure what a Dickie jacket is. I do notice that there is something that like a shirt that zips under the jacket, but how does it attach?

    1. Hello Penny. Yes, the Dickey jacket is one in which you can easily zip and button in dickeys, which are just the fronts of cardigans, sweaters and jackets that have to be purchased separately. They are purely optional however, and I actually wear my blazers more without the dickeys than with. The best thing to do to understand them more is to check them out on the VB website here: https://go.shopmy.us/p-11637679

  8. Happy New Year, Kay, and thank you for all you do – it’s a lot of work and I hope you know how much it is appreciated! Wishing God’s blessings to you and all your family in 2025.

  9. Enjoyed reading this post. I like it that you wear what you buy for years and not just one season. It makes you seem normal like the rest of us that can’t afford to donate our clothes every year. There’s a blogger I follow and I never see her wear what she bought last year or even from the fall. She posts what she wears for a week or two like you do. The clothes are not from Amazon or Walmart either. My favorite clothes I bought this year are from JCrew factory. I bought several pieces at good prices online and in the store. I bought trouser jeans like yours in black and dark wash. I gave a review and asked that they make them in a light wash and make pants in that style. I went to a regular JCrew and they didn’t have your jeans there. In case you don’t post tomorrow Happy New Year Kay.

  10. One of my favorite purchases this year was my trouser jeans, but boy did it take a while (and some tailoring) to get a pair to work well for me. I wouldn’t have branched out to try this style if not for you featuring it.

I also added a new color to my palette this year – golden daffodil yellow. I have one floral blouse and one dress I got in this color, and I love wearing them! In this regard, I am a little different than you, I don’t limit color in my wardrobe. I love color! I just make sure all my colors are cohesive with one another. In that way, I can wear colorful outfits that are (as you put it) “easy on the eyes”.

My third favorite purchase – I finally found the perfect leopard dress – a very swingy a-line silhouette, so it doesn’t look too “va-voom”.

Top three favorites for you, of what you highlighted: your suede blazer (stunning!!!), the wild orchid color, and the trouser jeans.

    Happy New Year!
