2 More Ways to Style the Trending Barn Jacket

The rustic, utilitarian barn jacket is having a moment this fall, and I’m here for it. I purchased my Adirondack barn coat last month, and I’ve already styled it several ways. I shared a classic outfit last week, but today I have two more ways to style the trending barn jacket.

Did you see the classic barn jacket outfit I shared last week with a colorful flannel shirt and straight, full-length, slim fit jeans?

Classic Barn Jacket is On Trend

My L.L.Bean Adirondack barn coat is in the loden, but it’s also available in dark khaki (in limited sizes and selling fast). It features functional button flap pockets as well as open front pockets. It has a flannel lined bodice and nylon lined long sleeves with rich brown corduroy trimmed cuffs and collar. The jacket fits true to size; I’m wearing a medium with plenty of room for layering.

But since the barn jacket is trending, you can expect to see it worn a wide variety of ways. And indeed we have lots of options! So I’ve styled it today with two other denim silhouettes and different types of tops.

The first of my additional looks is with full length, relaxed fit, flared leg jeans and a cashmere crewneck sweater (similar).

I completed this slightly dressier look with beautiful brown leather Sidney dress booties from Easy Spirit. Remember, you can use code KAY20 for 20% off at Easy Spirit. This classic bootie features a low block heel and arch support and it is orthotic friendly. Plus, it offers eFlex technology to maximize ultra comfort. It’s currently 30% off and available in medium and wide sizes.

To add a little whimsy to this otherwise classic outfit, I carried my new Patricia Nash Designs Clementine frame bag in Maple Leaf. This pretty 100% full-grain leather bag has a faux suede lining and features a pin-lock clasp closure. It has a detachable shoulder strap, too. You can use code KAY10 for 10% off at Patricia Nash Designs.

For both outfits, I’m wearing gold jewelry from Ana Luisa. I love the weight and classic look of the Aspen paper clip necklace and the Abby hoop earrings. Both pieces are hypoallergenic and water resistant, and they’re rigorously tested and guaranteed to be long lasting. You get a 2-year warranty with Ana Luisa and shipping and returns are always free in the U.S. Right now, get 15% off one item, 20% off two and 25% off three at Ana Luisa. I’m truly impressed with my Ana Luisa jewelry.

2 More Ways to Style the Trending Barn Jacket

For the next of our two more ways to style the trending barn jacket, I wore my Madewell cropped length Perfect Vintage jeans with a lightweight cotton silk shirt (more economical option). This time I carried the Patricia Nash Designs Chania crossbody in Montana Prairie Skies. Doesn’t that earthy print and the lace-up feature look fitting with this barn coat?

I tucked my shirt, added a brown belt (similar) and wore my brown croc embossed loafers (more economical option). With this longer jacket and cropped length jeans (or pants) I do think it’s crucial to either tuck the shirt or wear a cropped length one to create optimal proportions.

Blessed for My Day

I remember a number of years ago when I was wrestling through some things and was anxious for a resolution. I wanted so badly to take action, pick up the phone, move forward, confront. But I felt clearly in my heart that I was to wait for the Lord. Still, as I drove home from Bible study class one day I decided I would go home and do the thing I wanted to do. I was weary of waiting.

That’s when I looked at the yellow Volkswagen bug in front of me and saw the most amazing thing. In large black script on the back of that vehicle I read Psalm 27:14. I’ve never been one to look for signs, so I certainly didn’t expect this one. But I had no doubt that the message was for me. I never saw that car in my small town again, and I’m not sure it even really existed. But I knew God was firmly reminding me to wait on Him.

Trust me, we shouldn’t need such a sign to obey our Lord. But if you do need a reminder to wait on God, this is it. Don’t get ahead of Him, dear sister. He is at work. You can trust Him.

Wait for the Lord;
Be strong and let your heart take courage;
Yes, wait for the Lord. ~ Psalm 27:14

xoxo, Kay

  1. Your “wait for the Lord” reflection today reminded me of a similar experience. I am a breast cancer survivor, five years out. Two years ago I was on my way to my yearly mammogram and visit with my oncologist. I was really struggling this year and didn’t feel good about the upcoming mammogram. On my drive to the hospital I was praying to have these nerves calmed down. As I turned the corner into a busy street, there was one of those portable signs that you rent. I’ve driven by it many times And it usually has something political on it. But today it said PEACE. I knew immediately that was meant for me. My mammogram was good and the sign has never said that since. Message recieved!

  2. I appreciate your wide range of styling. I never know what to wear to an outdoor sporting event in the cold. I always feel like a blob. Can you help?

  3. I have been looking for a barn jacket for a while and when I saw this one you had showed with an outfit last week, I purchased it in the loden. Best color for me and I received in the mail yesterday. I love the barn jacket. Thanks for showing other outfits with it. We are experiencing a mild November right now and excited to wear it. Cute Patricia Nash bag. I have 2 of her bags and love them. The BFMD really spoke to me today. I have been waiting for the Lord to move for the past 4 years and he has not let us down. Have a blessed day.

  4. Relationships are the hardest thing to manage. Heaven will be lovely where we will all get along.

    Thanks for your video, it was fun to hear about your life:)

    I like the Montana bag best-really goes well with your outfit. Love the jacket!

  5. I like the look with the barn jacket, very casual, but still looks nice enough for regular errands and getting out in nature. I have a question why don’t we see the back view of your outfits on most posts? Thank you for bringing us fashion looks and ideas.

  6. I want to thank you, Kay, for helping me dress in a way that makes me feel my best self – and also gets positive comments from others. Which aren’t necessary – but are nice! The other day I went into a local independent dress shop- wearing wide leg jeans, black boots, black shoulder bag with a pink cropped sweater to balance jeans – and topped it with a pink slightly puffed jacket. You will see lots of things here I learned from Kay! As i entered the clerk exclaimed ” You look so lovely – what a well coordinated outfit!” I appreciate your suggestions and guidance very much!!
