Happy Friday! You may have joined me in August for Fall 2024 Trends Week when I shared some of the most wearable trends for this season. But at that time, with little to show for the predicted trends in the stores, I simply had to share a few photos from retailers to give us a taste of things to come. I’ve been adding a few of those trending fashions and accessories to my wardrobe, so I thought it might be helpful to share an updated post with how I’m styling five fall fashion trends.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.
Of course, these are not all the fashion trends for this fall. But I’m highlighting five that I’ve already added to my closet and worn. And these are trends that I heard the most positive feedback on from you, my readers, too.
Pop of Red
I’ve always been a big fan of the color red anyhow. So when I heard that adding a pop of red to your outfit was a trending thing to do this fall, I was completely on board.

For a casual look add a sporty red baseball cap to your everyday outfit. Later you might opt for a red beanie or other warm choice.

Of course, I’m seeing a lot of bold red shoes in the stores and on their websites. I picked up mine in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but they’re still available and marked down again. These are comfortable and flattering. But you could also opt for a red sneaker, ballet flat, pump or slingback.
I’m also enjoying my bright red crossbody bag. Right now it is marked down significantly in Athleta’s Friends & Family Sale.

I rounded up lots of other bright pops of red that you could add to your fall outfits. From pants and sweaters to more accessories, I’ve got some great options for you if you’re ready to style this trend for fall.
PRO TIP: Remember, the trend is to add a “pop of red.” So be strategic with this trend. Yes, you can wear red head to toe. But for this particular effect I suggest limiting yourself to one impactful dose of the color somewhere in your outfit. And don’t be afraid to carry that red bag or sport those red shoes without another speck of red anywhere to be seen. This single pop will take care of itself just fine! You’ll look amazing!
Leopard Print
When I was at LTK Con with hundreds of “cool girls” (hahaha!) last week, I saw so much leopard print. Seriously, it was everywhere. I dare say that every influencer there wore leopard print in some form or fashion at least once during the conference.

The photo above is not from LTK Con, but I did indeed take those beautiful slingbacks along with me. I love these particular shoes so much that I now have four pairs of them.

I’ve also worn my leopard print ballet flats quite a bit already. I don’t care for ballet flats a whole lot usually, but these are very comfortable. And, like my red flats above, these are marked down again to Nordstrom Anniversary Sale prices. I did size up in these for a more comfortable fit.

I’ve always loved leopard print, so I don’t shy away from wearing a big dose of it. So if you’re a fan, too, go for it! I’ve found so many other great leopard print garments and accessories for you below. Join the leopard print parade!
PRO TIP: While I’m a big fan of wearing leopard print in big doses, I do suggest sticking with one piece of it at a time, unless you come across a coordinated suit or something. And this year the leopard print that is most on trend is very sophisticated and authentic looking. Undoubtedly the trend will expand into other iterations, but right now I’d stick with very classic leopard prints.
Crop Length Jackets
This year there is no shortage of short jackets. And all the petites said, “Amen!” Yes, if you’re shorter in stature, you should definitely opt in on this fall trend. but really any of us can wear these crop length jackets with pizzazz.

My Cinq à Sept faux leather red jacket was a 100% Nordy note purchase for me, but it still felt like a splurge. I sure do hope this trend continues into spring, and I have every reason to believe it will. The reason cropped length jackets are so on trend is because high waist trousers and jeans continue to dominate.

Those deep cuff ankle jeans have definitely continued to trend this fall. I love them on other women, but I’m not a fan of them on me. They’re just not my thing. So I haven’t worn my crop length bomber jacket like that again, but I definitely plan on wearing it more. You can dress it up or down. I have other crop length jackets, too. I’ll be sharing them soon!
PRO TIP: Like all jackets, you still have to try these on to find the most flattering length and fit for your body shape and proportions. Look for a cropped jacket that hits you right at your most narrow point or your true waist. And it will undoubtedly work best with those high rise pants or jeans.
Lady Jackets
I have another lady jacket waiting to take a spin, but you may remember this bright pink one from earlier this month.

My bold pink lady jacket is sold out, but it’s still available in other colors. Lady jackets are generally fairly cropped as well. But they are often made out of sweater type fabric and fit pretty close to the body. They are characterized by the pretty buttons on the front, making them look a little elevated and even “fancy.”
PRO TIP: Just because lady jackets look a little fancy doesn’t mean your outfit has to be. Wear a lady jacket with casual jeans or dressy trousers. You can even wear them with a denim skirt.
Denim Dresses & Skirts
Denim, denim, denim. That’s the trend! And we’re seeing lots of denim skirt and dress options. But in my experience these go fast! I purchased my denim skirt from J.Crew last year and it sold out soon afterwards. It’s not available this year, but I’ve rounded up other options.

There are so many ways to style a denim skirt now and into the cooler months. If it’s still warm where you are, go ahead an wear those sandals with it. Later you can wear loafers, sneakers or ballet flats. And then you can wear booties and boots.

Top your denim skirt with a button-up shirt or t-shirt. Later you can add a sweater or warmer top. Don’t forget that denim on denim option.

A denim dress is a smart trend to invest in because they don’t really go out of style, as long as the silhouette you choose is fairly classic. I’d go with a shirt dress of some kind for the longest wearability.
PRO TIP: Because denim can be fairly bulky, you definitely want your denim dress to fit you well. Don’t buy one too big. It should fit nicely in the waist and shoulders. Opt for the length that works best for your frame. My Jude Connally dress above comes in two lengths. I’m wearing the LONG.

Blessed for My Day
I’ve found that sometimes women struggle to forgive those who have hurt them because they don’t fully grasp what forgiveness means. Biblically, to forgive someone does not mean that you admit that what they did was okay…or that they didn’t do the offense at all. You’re also not minimizing the hurt, pain, loss or frustration the wrong caused you. To forgive does not mean to excuse or shrug off.
But when we truly forgive someone we simply decide that they do not owe us anything. That may seem hard to do. In fact, it is. But when we realize that letting someone off of our hook doesn’t let them off the hook with God, who knows and sees all, we can trust that they are not actually getting away with anything. But we, on the other hand, are escaping the burden of carrying around the grudge, the bitterness, the resentment and the desire to retaliate.
For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge His people.” It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God. ~ Hebrews 10:30-31

Red beanie-I thought of Dennis the Menace. Didn’t he wear one? With maybe propellers on it? That’s what came to mind-beanie.
The cropped red leather jacket is stunning! I love that it comes in black as well. It’s pricey but oh so gorgeous! It looked amazing on you!😁
I love the booties in the picture with Western Long Sleeve Denim Shirtdress by Madewell which you said were unavailable. Can you suggest something similar?
Hmm. I’m not sure why it said that. I’ve fixed it. They are available and marked down. https://rstyle.me/+Wt6zK1vChSu8UDTTyMuOMw
Hi Kay,
I fell in love with your red Cinq a Sept jacket the first time you showed it. However, nearly $400 is out of reach for me. I have been on the hunt for a lower cost alternative. I would greatly appreciate it if you could offer any suggestions.
Good afternoon Kay! First, your BFMD is absolutely amazing. Forgiveness is one of the hardest but most Christ-like things God calls us to do. As for the trends, pop of red and the leopard trend, yes please! I’m fully on board for both. Jackets, I live in a very warm climate so I seldom wear them. If I do, it’s mostly a jean jacket or a blazer. Lady jackets aren’t really my thing. Denim dress – I’m still contemplating this one. I like the look, but what I struggle with is “will I wear it *enough*”? Since I don’t have the answer to that yet, I am holding off. 🙂
I’m excited to wear my new denim dress-it just has to get a little cooler! I’m not into to leopard, but i do have a belt with it that I will wear for fun. I’m happy that I have some red to use in my wardrobe. I’m looking for a short red casual/nice jacket for the colder weather. Something like the one Frank and Eileen have but without the frayed edges-not fond of that part.
Great examples of styling these fall trends. I took a few pictures for my files. Thank you.
Kay, in this post you mentioned, “Only one piece of leopard at a time.” That sounds like clothing. Or would that also include earrings, necklace, scarf, shoes? The “bookend” effect of leopard shoes and necklace or purse and earrings?
I personally prefer only one dose of leopard in an outfit period. But that’s just a personal preference.
Really love your navy bomber sweater jacket. Yep, I’m short and am glad to hear shorter jackets are in. I haven’t seen many here in Wisconsin.I prefer to try on before I buy rather than order on line if I can help it.. Speaking of Wisconsin, I hope you let us know where you travelled and what you liked/didn’t like. Ha. I’m in Madison, the capital.
So far it is beautiful here and the people are warm and friendly. 🤗 I’m just outside Wisconsin Dells and going to Door County also.
Enjoy Door County! Some of the more iconic places to see are Wilson’s restaurant in Sister’s Bay, Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant in Ephraim (Goats on the roof!) and of course Peninsula State Park for the beautiful scenery. I’m originally from WI and we would vacation in Door County every summer.
Oops! Wilson’s in Ephraim and Al Johnsons is in Sister’s Bay.
Hahaha! We saw the sun set at Peninsula state park last night. And I had the best ever BLT at Wilson’s for lunch, followed by THE BEST cherry pie ever. Tonight we ate at Donnie’s Glidden Lodge with a table at the window looking out over the water. Just perfect.
I love all these trends and have them in my wardrobe. I’m working on getting more red. You look stunning in the red jacket and jeans outfit. Amen to the crop jackets by this petite woman. Also I don’t like the big cuff jeans but on someone tall like you they don’t look bad. If I cuff my jeans I rather just do it on regular straight jeans.
Excited for you to visit Wisconsin! We have beautiful weather in store for this weekend! Can I ask where you are speaking? I live outside of Portage, WI. If you would like any recommendations on where to visit, please let me know! Enjoy our beautiful state!
Bridget
Thank you Bridget. We’re loving it. I was in Westfield for the retreat and now we’re in Door County. Really lovely. 😊
