Happy Friday from Georgia! We’re here to celebrate my granddaughter’s first birthday this weekend. I’ll be busy today helping Abigail with last minute details, and then we’re celebrating Christmas with her family tonight. We’re also enjoying time with my parents this weekend. And Saturday and Sunday we will celebrate that one year milestone. Fun! It’s been quite a spell since I’ve posted my real life outfits. So today I’ve just rounded up photos from as many days as I could for the past few weeks. Let’s see how I really dressed for my day recently.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

You’ll notice some of these are photos from blog posts. That’s because I really did wear those outfits all day, either before a late afternoon photo shoot or after an early morning one. And these are in no particular order because I honestly don’t remember exactly which days they were.

I’ve had my assistant Lucy add shoppable links for the items in the outfits in the captions of the photos. But I’m not going to link to things in the text here so that I can write this up quickly and get back to spending time with my parents. But if you’re interested in shopping anything you see, just click through the captions.

Black Watch tartan plaid velveteen straight pants (c/o) (TTS) // black cashmere turtleneck sweater (c/o) (TTS) // quilted down puffer vest (c/o) (runs large; sized down to a misses small) // wool blend coat (TTS; C/O) // black boots (c/o) (Use code KAYBOOTS for $50 off first pair of boots at Ally) // earrings // brooch option and another // similar leather gloves // cashmere ribbed scarf

We shot that Black Watch tartan plaid velveteen pants outfit one day last week in the morning before I had to head out to some appointments. The temperatures were in the teens! So I chose to just wear the plaid coat with the plaid pants because it was warmer that way. I actually wore this outfit several places that day, including the mall, and I felt comfortable and stylish. So fun!

Above you can see the outfit without the coat, which is how I wore it whenever I was inside. Then again, I’m pretty sure I wore that coat even in the mall. It was a crazy cold day! I brought these Black Watch tartan plaid pants with me this weekend to wear to church Sunday morning. I plan to wear them with my Kelly green cashmere turtleneck sweater.

The day we shot Monday’s bonus YouTube video with Talbots I actually wore the outfit below most of the day.

cashmere ribbed sweater (c/o) // tapered ankle pants // ballet flats // earrings

These tapered ankle pants really are so comfortable and fun to wear. I also brought these with me and plan to wear them with an ivory pullover sweater for a slightly different look. I brought loafers to wear with them.

Evidently all I do is shoot photos and videos because the outfit below is the one I wore in Wednesday’s YouTube video. Ha! But I also wore it all day. This is probably my favorite outfit of the week.

blazer // silk blouse // jeans // earrings (c/o; use code KAY20 for 20% off at Penelope Jewelry) // similar belt // boots (c/o; 30% off for a limited time)

Indeed I am more and more often wearing in real life the outfits that we photograph for the blog. It just makes sense as far as making good use of my time…and my wardrobe!

Now I do know that the photo below is from yesterday. I had to accompany James to a dentist appointment and needed to bundle up for a cold morning with snow on the ground. But as I said in that video on wearing plaid, I’m wearing these pants on repeat through the holidays.

sweater (in shade ivory) (more economical option) // coat // tapered ankle bants // boots // scarf is old (similar option) // earrings // satchel bag

Ahh yes, that’s the ivory sweater I brought to wear those pants with this weekend, too. Ha! Oh well, I really don’t mind repeating outfits, especially if it’s one I love. What about you? Are you an outfit repeater?

Below is a photo from the day we taped next Wednesday’s YouTube video. I’ll be sharing tips for how to dress for winter in warmer climates. Don’t let the cashmere sweater fool you! Ha!

sweater // quilted vest // jeans // ballet flats // earrings

After we finished taping the video James and I took a ride in the countryside, meandering down to the Ohio River. I was just needing to get out of the house for a change of scenery, and we really enjoy driving around and looking at the area around us. We’re so glad to be in Ohio.

Below is a photo from a Sunday morning. This was the day I shot the photos for half a dozen blog posts after church.

crewneck sweater // jeans // similar grey booties

Anyhow, I really love that grey and ivory outfit. The crewneck sweater from LilySilk became a fast favorite after taping this YouTube video with them. It’s 70% merino wool and 30% cashmere, which really is a nice combination of softness and durability.

Below I’m wearing a monochromatic look that I wore to run some errands one day. I just added a chambray shirt underneath that pretty sweater vest for a bit of interest.

button up // similar brushed cashmere sweater vest // relaxed corduroy pants // boots // bag

I accessorized that day with brown booties and a brown bag.

The photos below are actually from the day I shot the video about sleepwear and loungewear. But I included this photo because I’ve really and truly been wearing these two sets of loungewear almost daily. A few days in recent weeks I’ve stayed in one of these sets all day, while many other times I’ve changed into one of them after work for the evening.

tan lounge top // bottoms // cozy sherpa slippers // blue lounge set

I really couldn’t tell you which set is my favorite. They’re both so soft and comfortable, but still feel a little elevated and polished. The brown set is not actually a set; the pieces are purchased separately. But the Lake lounge joggers and cardigan are a set. They run true to size, per the size charts. I’m wearing mediums in the Haven Well Within separates and a Large in the Lake set.

fisherman sweater (more economical option) // coat // jeans // boots // necklace // earrings (c/o; use code KAY20 for 20% off) // purse not available (similar option )

And above is a photo from yesterday. We snapped this photo sometime in the afternoon during a restroom break along the highway. I usually travel in some kind of travel outfit with joggers or lounge pants. But I just had a hankering to wear my straight leg jeans from Talbots on this cold day. Sure enough I felt comfortable all day long as we traveled along!

Thanks so much for stopping in for a little outfit inspiration. I’ve got these How I Really Dressed for My Day (HIRDFMD) posts on my calendar for every Friday for the foreseeable future, so if these are some of your favorite posts, stay tuned!

Blessed for My Day

Some may reasonably think that the Christmas story is just one small episode in the Bible, found most often Luke 2. But truthfully the story of Christmas begins before the foundations of the world, is first mentioned in Genesis and continues in the lives of those who believe. Christmas was just a point in history, it’s promise fulfilled and lives changed.

But when the fullness of the time came, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons and daughters. ~ Galatians 4:4-5

  1. I really look forward to all of your content. It is just so helpful! Encourages me to keep showing up for my life in the best ways possible.

  2. I’d love to know how you ended up in Ohio. I know your parents and adult kids live elsewhere. Did they move from their home town or did you? How far does it take you to go from Ohio to Georgia? I was wondering how far you are away from your kids and granddaughter. We are a ways from all 3 of our adult kids and grands and its hard. They are anywhere from 3-41/2 hrs. away. I’m fortunate its not any further or that we’d have to go by plane to see them. They will all be here for Christmas, so that will be fun. Have a great time celebrating your granddaughter this weekend. I remember those parties. So fun. My grand kids are now 5,4,3 and 7 months. So much fun. One of my daughters just lost a pregnancy in Oct. and one last Nov. so that has been hard and we are praying God will bless them with another baby in the future. They are wonderful, intentional parents and want another child so bad. They have my 5 yr. old granddaughter, my first. We just visited last weekend and watched her in The Nutcracker Ballet. She did a wonderful job for her age. Enjoy your weekend. Blessings. PS Great outfit choices you wore. So pretty.

    1. I’m so sorry to hear about your daughter’s losses. I know that has to be hard on a family, too. My husband has pastored in churches in four states, so we have moved around a bit. I’m originally from Georgia, where my parents still live. My brother and his family all live nearby, too. My daughter, who went to college at the University of Arizona, where we lived at the time, ended up in the Atlanta area because she moved here after completing her theater degree, to begin an acting career. Then she changed career paths and met her husband. James and I moved to Cincinnati because a church called him as pastor there. We absolutely love it there.

  3. Both the plaid coat outfit and the white sweater with gray pants and boots are striking on you, Kay. Also your hairstyle in your two loungewear outfits definitely has a Marilyn Monroe vibe! Very flattering. Living in Wisconsin, I love all the suggestions for winter wear. Thank you
