As I finished up my Charles Stanley Christmas meditations book, The Gift of Jesus, I was presented with an interesting concept I hadn’t ever thought of. He remarked that while God the Father is the Giver of all good and perfect gifts and Jesus is indeed the gift of Christmas, we mustn’t forget that the Holy Spirit is the gift maker. I like that. God the Father is the gift Giver, Jesus is the perfect gift and the Holy Spirit is the gift Maker.
The spirit of Christmas goes on in you and me through the work and gift-making of the Spirit of God. As He produces the fruit of the Spirit within us (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control) and as He gives us spiritual gifts for serving in and through the church, other people around us get to see a little glimpse of God. Wow! That means it is very important that, as believers, we appropriate the gift of Jesus and then cooperate with the Holy Spirit, the gift Maker, so that other people can see Jesus in us.
Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. ~ James 1:17
For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. ~ Romans 6:23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. ~ Galatians 5:22-23
However, since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to use them properly: if prophecy, in proportion to one’s faith; if service, in the act of serving; or the one who teaches, in the act of teaching; or the one who exhorts, in the work of exhortation; the one who gives, with generosity; the one who is in leadership, with diligence; the one who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. ~ Romans 12:6-8

My husband and I also spent a quiet Christmas Day at home. And, it was very enjoyable because we had spent a wonderful day on Christmas Eve with our children and grandchildren and they were all safe and healthy spending time with other loved ones. Thank you for the reminder that celebrations can be at different places and times but still special. Have learned to embrace that over the years. Blessings to you and yours in the coming year!
