I know I’m a few days late, but Happy September! Yes, over the holiday weekend we turned another page on the calendar. In fact, today is my daughter Abigail’s birthday, so here’s to her! Truly, she’s a treasure to our family. And indeed, she is one of my favorite things about September. But here today I’m sharing a few of our favorite things – mine and yours – from August. First we’ll check out the most popular items purchased through my links at Dressed for My Day and then I will share a handful of things I enjoyed the most in August.

A Few of Your Favorite Things in August 2024
How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.
Each month I have my assistant Lucy run the analytics to discover the top 10-12 best sellers at Dressed for My Day. This includes links shopped through here at the blog, on my YouTube channel, in my LTK shop and through social media (Facebook and Instagram). And I don’t really know what was purchased, but I know that individuals clicked through these particular links and then purchased something.

Since Lucy is the one that runs the analytics and sets this particular blog post up for me, I don’t know until I get in here to write it what those top sellers are. I’m finding out right now as I write this! Let’s see your favorite things in August!
Jude Connally Dress
I’m happy to see this pretty Susanna Dress in our top sellers for August. I shared this pretty pink and white Moroccan Trellis Berry print in this blog post in July. But the dress went on sale in August, so I hope that’s when many of you purchased it.

I’ve also shown the Susanna Dress in Moroccan Trellis Loden Cream, so it may be that some purchases were of that colorway. The dress fits true to size; I’m wearing a medium in the long style. Remember, you can always use code KAY15 for 15% off at Jude Connally.
Geneva Stripe Cotton Blend Cardigan
I purchased the Geneva stripe cotton blend cardigan from Rails in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and it quickly sold out. But, as often happens in the sale, it restocked in early August. So evidently many of you were able to purchase one.

That said, this lightweight, silky soft cardigan is still stocked in several sizes and, best of all, it’s back on sale. It’s still a pricey sweater, but I love it for fall. And I really think it’s sort of a four-season sweater. It runs a little large by design; I’m wearing a medium.
Harlow Wide Leg Pant
Wow! This is interesting. I simply mentioned these Harlow wide leg pants from Madewell in my 4 Fall Trends to Wear Now + Later blog post. But I’ve probably also shared in a recent video that I purchased several pairs of these Harlow wide leg trousers last year and loved them…and that Madewell as updated them for this fall.

I have the Harlow wide leg pants from last year in the khaki above and a chocolate brown. This year I’ve purchased the black ones and will style them here soon. I find them to run a tad large; I wear an 8 comfortably.
Straight Ankle Cuff Jeans
Well, surprise, surprise! I got more negative comments than positive ones when I shared these straight ankle cuff jeans for sure. But meanwhile I could see on the “back end” that even more readers were purchasing the jeans than those who were commenting.

I get it. I really didn’t care for this trend when it first surfaced about a year ago. But it’s grown on me. I don’t know that I’ll wear these often myself, but they are definitely a statement-maker. These ankle cuff jeans from Talbots run a little large; I wear a misses 8.
Paul Green Sneakers
It’s no surprise to me that these Paul Green Unity platform sneakers are in the most popular category. I know that many of my followers value comfortable, quality footwear as much as I do. As we get older we frequently develop foot or spinal cord issues that demand good shoes, and I’ve discovered that Paul Green shoes are some of the best.

I have these sneakers in the white and the sand biscuit combo, which I love. But I do find that I wear the white ones more. They fit true to size and are so soft inside. And they have great cushion and a 1 1/2″ platform heel.
Cozy Rib Tee
Great! (This is so fun for me. Hehehe!) I’m thrilled to see that many readers purchased the Everlane cozy rib tee. Right now elevated basics continue to trend as we pare back our outfits but still strive for impact. A ribbed tee can be a game changer in a simple outfit.

I did size up to a large in the ribbed tee because I wanted to make sure it wasn’t too tight. But I might could have worn a medium. That said, I really like the fit of this one. It does come in other colors, too.
Denim Tie Waist Dress
Well here’s a surprise. I actually haven’t even tried on the denim tie waist dress from Talbots. But I included it in a shopping widget when I shared the denim trends for Fall 2024 and the Fall Fashion Trends to Wear Now. Denim dresses are so on trend!

Since so many of my followers enjoy shopping Talbots, the popularity of this dress really isn’t a surprise, I suppose. By the way, it’s a good day to shop Talbots. They’re offering Buy One Get One 50% off everything. If you purchased the Talbots denim tie waist shirt dress do us a favor and let us know how it fits in the comments.
Tweed Bomber Jacket
Yay! I do love this tweed bomber jacket from Talbots. It’s surprisingly very modern and on trend. This year expect to see lots of elevated bomber jackets. Sure, you’ll still see the classic satin ones. But something like this tweed bomber jacket with silver buttons will really set you apart…in a good way!

The bomber jacket fits true to size and is included in Talbots’ Buy One Get One 50% off offer.
Stevie Cropped Cotton Tee
Here’s another Nordstrom Anniversary Sale purchase that has been restocked. Actually I think many of my readers picked up these micro ribbed short sleeve tees in the final week of the sale. They come in white, black and grey, and now, evidently, a sugar brown.

I’ve already worn my Allsaints Stevie cropped tees a good bit. I hope many of you are already enjoying yours, too. On the website the tees look very cropped, but really they are the perfect length to cover the waistband of your high rise jeans and pants and give you those great proportions. The tees run true to size. I’ve already washed mine and dried them on a rack with great results. But one accidentally got in the dryer and it still fits, too.
Quince 100% Organic Cotton Fisherman Sweater
I don’t think I mentioned at the top of the post, but I had Lucy put these best sellers in reverse order, from 12th most popular to the top selling item. We’re on number 3! That means a lot of my followers purchased the Quince 100% organic cotton fisherman sweater recently. If your weather is like ours today, you may be enjoying it right now!

I’ve actually got two sponsored videos with Quince next month, and I’m so excited. I worked hard to get those…for you! I know so many of my followers have discovered the high quality of Quince at such affordable prices. In the first video I’ll be sharing their new cashmere pieces for the fall (including the cashmere fisherman sweater), and later I’ll share some of their outerwear. Let us know if you’re loving the cotton fisherman sweater from Quince.
Pink Double Breasted Blazer
The number 2 top seller for August at DFMD was the textured double breasted blazer from Talbots. The soft pink is so pretty and perfectly appropriate for fall, but you can pull it out again for sure next spring.

This blazer runs true to size and is part of the Buy One Get One 50% off deal at Talbots today.
Tailored Stretch Pants
I shared the tailored stretch pants in a try-on session at Talbots HERE. At the time they weren’t on sale, but they have been since then. I suspect that is why they are the number 1 most popular items at Dressed for My Day for August.

You’ll definitely need to let us all know if you love these pants. I didn’t purchase them that day that I tried them on, but kind of meant to order them later. They are a rather thick fabric, but very comfortable and stretchy and classy, if I remember correctly. And I also recall that they fit true to size. Let us know if I’m wrong on that.
Now, on to a few of my favorite things from August!
Kay’s Favorite Things

Some of these I’ve shown here or on the YouTube Channel. Others I just got in and haven’t yet shared.
J.Crew Denim Trouser Jeans
Yeah, I just got these in late last week. But I hopped right in to them and wore them as soon as I feasibly could. Ha! Yeah, they’re that good. These J.Crew denim trouser jeans feel amazing and look pretty darn nice as well.

I’m comfortably in my true size 30. Remember, I’m 5’8″ and these classic fit jeans require a heel for me. They do come in tall and petite sizes, too. Dark wash is really trending this year, but it’s perfectly fine to wear lighter wash jeans. I like to mix it up. And this chambray blue wash is just lovely. They’ll go so nicely with my lighter intensity sweaters and jackets. But the denim trouser jeans do come in a few dark washes, too.
Dior Eyeshadow in Soft Cashmere
Saturday I published a new fall makeup tutorial in which I used this Dior eyeshadow in Soft Cashmere. It goes on beautifully and soft. Most of the shades have just the slightest shimmer, nothing too sparkly or overwhelming.

I am able to apply such a small amount of the shadows for good results, so I expect it to last me a while. Here’s the video with the tutorial, too.
Dior Lipstick in Rose Des Vents 422
I also shared this Dior lipstick in Rose Des Vents 422 in that video. In fact, the eyeshadow and lipstick were the main reasons I shared the tutorial. I’d gotten so many requests for and questions about both. They’re really great products, so I had no hesitation sharing.

I have several tubes of this Dior lipstick and highly recommend it. It goes on beautifully and just a touch sheer. It’s creamy and has good lasting power.
Halogen Button-Up Shirt
I love having an elevated looking shirt or two in my closet for transitioning into fall. With a top like this green satin-finish camp shirt you never “have nothing to wear” because it works for so many things.

Satin is really on trend right now, too. Of course, this economical shirt is not really silk, but it has a beautiful satin sheen. It’s available in a LOT of colors and fits true to size.
Sam Edelman Bianka Slingbacks in Leopard Print
I just got in the Sam Edelman Bianka slingback in leopard print last week. Again, I put them on immediately and began to wear them. That’s how I do when I get something I love; I just can’t wait to wear it!

Of course I already knew I was going to love these slingbacks because I own two other pairs of them in different finishes. They run true to size and come in other colors and fabrics, too.
Endless High Rise Pants
I carried two pairs of the Endless cargo high rise pants with me to Alaska and wore them almost every day. I would have loved to have a third pair with me. So when Athleta reached out recently to work with me, I decided to get a pair of the regular silhouette Endless high rise pants in navy.

These Endless high rise pants are perfect for so much of real life: taking care of grandkids, travel, walking around the neighborhood or doing odds and ends around home. They’re comfortable, breathable, moisture-wicking and abrasion resistant. They really fit true to size; I could have worn a 10, but they didn’t have it in the store that day. So I’m wearing a 12 in the photo above for a quite roomy fit.
Talbots Stretch Knit Blazer
I was surprised how much I like the Talbots stretch knit blazer. It’s soft to the touch and just the perfect thickness for fall. I love the fall berry color – not quite pink, not quite red. I think in the photo below it’s a little bright because I was standing in the sun. But the color is really rich and berry-like.

That said, the blazer does come in several other colors, too. It fits true to size; I’m wearing a 10.
Cable Knit V-Neck Sweater Vest
But I also love having the cable knit v-neck sweater vest in the same fall berry color. I mean, there are just so many good things about this. First of all sweater vests are trending even bigger than last year. Second, they make great tops for transitioning into early fall.

And you know how much I love having a top in the same color as my jackets. It’s become step two of buying any jacket I purchase. But I love that I can have something besides your basic tee or tank in the same color as my blazer. A sweater vest is just a little more interesting. On the website it doesn’t look like they match, but indeed they do. And the vest runs true to size and I find it to work nicely without a top underneath.
Clover Berry Red Crossbody Belt Bag
Obviously I’m really love the whole “splash of red” trend. Yes, I’m here for it! I carried a green crossbody belt bag from Athleta with me on my Alaska cruise and land trip and found it to be essential. So I know I’ll lean into this clover berry red bag for fall travel, too.

By the way, that crossbody bag comes in two sizes; mine is the small. It nicely holds a pair of glasses, a couple of cards, lipstick, keys and cell phone. And it can be worn as a belt bag or crossbody with its adjustable strap.

Blessed for My Day
Yesterday I mentioned that fear is a wicked motivator. When we fear, we tend to be motivated down any number of wrong paths. Likewise, anger can motivate us in the wrong direction, too. Sure, there is a righteous anger that can motivate us to speak up on behalf of the hurting, do the right thing when others are doing wrong, set a wrong right or defend the holy things of God. But more often than not the anger I struggle with is not a righteous anger. It’s an anger fueled by self-protection, pride or selfishness.
The Bible teaches that we will all get angry at times. It’s a normal human emotion. But when we find that we are angry, we do well to examine our emotions and unearth what fuels the anger. If our anger is self-motivated we must confess it and allow God to remove it from our hearts, otherwise that anger will compel us toward bitterness (growing anger), strife (spreading anger), isolation (self-serving anger) or retaliation (acts of anger). Is anger motivating your actions or thoughts today? Trust me, it will lead you nowhere good. Talk to God about it and allow Him to heal your hurting heart.
Do not be eager in your spirit to be angry,
For anger resides in the heart of fools. ~ Ecclesiastes 7:9
I’m late to the party, but I got the cuffed jeans from Walmart, and I love them! Just stiff enough to keep in the fluff, and the dark wash is everything.
I noticed that the SE slingbacks are on sale at Nordstrom right now. They don’t have the leopard, but they do have the other colors (red!)
I purchased the denim tie waist dress. It fit great, but I returned it because I didn’t like the plastic gold buttons.
Ahh, interesting. Thanks for sharing. 😊
Hi Kay!
A lot of the clothes you modeled I have similar clothes already like. Just wanted to let you know, I really like your hair cut very becoming .
Take care and GOD BLESS!
Great blessed for my day.. I can relate. I like your hair a lot. I remember reading about you not coloring your hair anymore. I guess since it was blond it was easier to transition. I’m thinking of doing it. It’s harder to go from medium brown hair to white/gray. I’m just tired of coloring the roots every month. Actually I need it after 2 weeks but I can’t afford it.
Hello Kay. You look so lovely in all these clothes. Would you consider doing a blog or video on the following: 1. How to find the right blazer – I would really like to add blazers to my wardrobe but find that many overwhelm my petite frame 2. Florals in our wardrobe – I love that little print blouse and find I gravitate toward florals but don’t want to look frumpy 3. Tips for on-line shopping – I don’t have access to most of these stores except on-line and want to avoid too many returns? Take care of yourself and thank you for all the hard work you do. P.S. I really appreciated the make-up tutorial. Isn’t it wonderful that we continue to keep learning!
I can certainly work on those ideas. Thanks for sharing them.
