I had the opportunity to drop into one of my nearby Talbots Tuesday afternoon, so I thought I’d try on some of their newest collection. Unfortunately that particular store had very little new inventory, so I tried on items from the last collection mainly. But, determined not to settle, I drove to another Talbots yesterday and there I found much more of the new August collection. Let’s check out my Talbots try-on sessions.

Sizing and Fit Information
Just so you’ll know how to gauge the sizing of items I’m trying on, I’m 5’8″, weigh about 160 pounds, have even proportions and an hourglass shape. I pretty much consistently wear a size 10 in pants, 8 in jeans and size mediums in everything else at Talbots. If I don’t mention sizing, those are the sizes I tried and the garment fits true to size (TTS). Otherwise, if sizing was off, I’ll let you know how things fit as we go.
Beach Terry Athleisure
Somehow I missed these beach terry athleisure pieces when they came out because I’d never seen them. I’m pretty impressed.

The johnny collar pullover and beach terry wide crop pants fit true to size and would make a great travel outfit, especially for a car trip. They’re also nice for pulling on in the evening after a day at the beach. And they’re just really cute athleisure pieces. These pieces are marked down and you get another 40% off at checkout.

Above I’m wearing the same beach terry wide crop pants with a coordinating beach terry shacket. Of course the shacket could also be worn open over a tank or tee. I’m wearing the medium in the pants, but they only had a small in the beach terry shacket. Turns out that was a good fit, so consider sizing down.
Activewear
If you’re looking for something a little more polished to wear for a walk with a friend, this tank and light weight straight leg pants would work beautifully.

These pieces are silky soft and lightweight. They’re also breezy and sit off of the body, so I think they would be cool. They fit true to size; I’m wearing mediums. The light weight straight leg pants are marked down and you get an extra 40% off. The tank is 30% off, as is all regular priced T by Talbots.
Denim
The idea of this elbow sleeve denim shirt is a good one, but the cuffs on the sleeves are too small for me. I’m trying on my usual medium here, but the sleeve is just too tight. I do have large upper arms, but I was disappointed that the cuffs weren’t more ample.

I do like the look of the natural colored straight ankle jeans. They feel good and have just the right amount of stretch. I like the raw edge hem, but I know some may not. Also keep in mind that these jeans do not have functional front pockets, except for the tiny ones at the waistband. I have them in a blue denim and enjoy them. I’m wearing the size 8 comfortably. And they’re thick enough not to show dimpling. Ahem.
Neither of the above pieces are marked down. However, you can get one full price item (highest priced in your cart) for 25% off with code REFRESH (through July 28).

The wide leg trouser jeans above are another nice natural colored option. Natural colored denim has kind of taken the place of white jeans this summer. And it’s a great option for wearing into the fall, too. The embroidered top is also available in a bright yellow.
The straight leg jeans shown below actually may be the ones I have. I know they’ve come out in a few washes, so I’m not sure. but I really like the silhouette of these jeans. They fit true to size.

The metallic bead trim V-neck top above comes in several colors, and two of them – the brown and orange – are actually marked down. This is a good top to add a little interest to an outfit while keeping it fairly pared back and minimalist. It’s a linen polyester blend.
Below I’m wearing the crop wide leg jeans in Montecito wash. They didn’t have an 8, so I’m wearing the 10. It is a little roomy, so I’d say the 8 would have worked nicely. I’m not sure if it’s the jean I don’t care for or just the size. Or maybe the top isn’t a great one???

The ruffle sleeve stripe tank is rattan multi, basically a beige. So it definitely doesn’t do anything for me. But if you’re looking for a nice basic to wear with something a little brighter, this would be a good option. It’s lightweight and fits true to size.
Athleisure Dress
My final try-on at the first Talbots I visited is this T by Talbots short sleeve polo dress. It’s a fun travel or vacation dress, perfect for everyday wear, too.

Remember, you get 30% off all full-price T by Talbots, so this dress is discounted accordingly.
Work & Church Outfits
At the next Talbots I found a good selection of their new arrivals. Most of their new arrivals, however, were of the dressier sort. So I put together some pairings that would be nice for work and/or church. That’s not to say that every pairing works perfectly. This was my first time working with these clothes, so really it’s just a try-on, not a styled post.
Also this mirror is obviously a little dirtier than the other. Ha! Oh, and I DO NOT have on the right shoes for any of these. Hahaha! I didn’t know I was going to be trying on workwear, otherwise I would have brought pumps or pretty flats.

Talbots shows the houndstooth jacket above paired with jeans in their catalog. And that’s definitely an on trend option. But I put it over these tailored stretch slim wide leg ankle pants. Boy, that’s a mouthful. Odd because Talbots usually names their pants, but they didn’t these. And I LOVE them. They’re a slightly thick fabric Talbots is calling their Tailored Stretch Fabric. It’s smooth, soft and elevated, but feels good, too. As I do in most Talbots dress pants, I’m wearing a 10 and they feel great.
Above and below I’m wearing the warm blush soft satin charmeuse tank with the wide leg ankle pants. It feels great on, has a nice drape and fits true to size. I especially love it under the double breasted blazer in the same color.

I’m wearing a size 10 in the double breasted blazer. I might could wear an 8 for a slightly less oversized fit, but they didn’t have one in the store. But, while double-breasted blazers tend to look a little more overwhelming in general, I think this one looks pretty nicely sized. It’s hard to get a good photo of a double breasted blazer because they are so voluminous. But I got compliments from other women in the fitting room, and I really felt like this jacket looked nice on.

Above I changed into the lake tweed blazer, which features a pretty warm blush stripe amidst the black and ivory. I’m wearing a size 8 here and it fits well. (I often size down to an 8 in jackets at Talbots.) This is a somewhat heavier jacket, and I’m not really pleased with the way it falls either. But it may just need to be steamed and hung up for a while.

Next I topped the tailored stretch slim wide leg ankle pants with the check jacquard short sleeved cardigan. They have a similar ivory and metallic check jacquard short sleeved cardigan that I pulled but neglected to try on. It would be lovely with the ivory wide leg ankle pants. The short sleeved cardigan fits TTS; I’m wearing a medium.

The open stitch crewneck sweater above is in that same warm blush as the shell and blazer shown earlier. It also comes in ivory and in blue hydrangea. It fits true to size. I’m wearing a medium. The open stitch crewneck sweater is 55% cotton, 45% polyester.

Next I switched into the Hampshire straight leg ankle pants in a black and ivory houndstooth. These pants fit consistent with all their other Hampshire straight leg ankle pants. I’m wearing a 10 as usual. They’re very versatile pants and could probably be worn all four seasons, especially for work.

I know my footwear is not helpful, but just imagine these looks with classic black pumps or flats. I think they would all pull together really nicely. Above I’m wearing the blocked crochet crewneck top, a light summer sweater. It fits true to size; I’m wearing a medium.

Above I’m wearing the Hampshire straight leg ankle pants with the black textured vest. This long button-front vest is also available in ivory. I’m wearing an 8 and I think it’s still a little roomy, so definitely size down.

I was surprised to like this textured tweed sweater dress. It feels really good on and would definitely be helped by a little shapewear and the right shoes. I’d wear nude pumps here. But the fit is good and it’s quite flattering. I’m wearing my usual medium. The dress is a good thickness to wear now and later, with a jacket.

Above I topped the hampshire straight leg ankle pants with a ribbed v-neck tank and the houndstooth jacket. With some black loafers or ballet flats, this could be a great outfit. Sporty and modern. Cropped length jackets are very in style this year. And this is a good one.
Next I tried on the ivory Greenwich pants, to which they’ve added a gold button tab to the waistband.

The Greenwich pants fit true to size; I’m wearing a 10. They are a beautiful high waist, full length pant with functional front and rear pockets, as well as belt loops and a hook and zip closure. These ivory Greenwich pants are also in a new fabrication. They’re 63% Polyester, 32% Viscose, 5% Spandex. Evidently they’re only available in ivory in this fabric and style.

I think the black and ivory tie neck soft top is gorgeous with these Greenwich pants. It’s a truly elegant blouse featuring a v-neck and a soft tie. Above I topped it with the double breasted blazer. This outfit would look pretty with ivory, nude or even black pumps or flats. Or you could dress it up a little with gold heeled sandals.

Above I simply switched in the soft satin charmeuse tank. I think this is a really pretty combination, perfect with ivory or nude shoes. And below I swapped in the textured v-neck cardigan in warm blush over the dot tie neck shell in the same colors.

All of these pieces fit true to size. I’m wearing mediums. The v-neck cardigan would also work really nicely with black jeans or the natural jeans I shared above.
Travel Capsules by Talbots
Like everyone else, Talbots has come out with clothes meant for comfortable but polished travel. They didn’t have all of the offerings in the store, but I did find a few to try. First I tried the AirKnit pintuck wide leg pants with a ribbed v-neck tank and the AirKnit dolman sleeve jacket. See all Travel Capsules by Talbots here.

Talbots’ AirKnit fabric somewhat mimics that of the Spanx AirEssentials. Honestly, it’s not quite a luxe feeling, but it’s close. The Spanx AirEssentials wide leg pants are regularly priced at $138 and come in regular, petite and tall sizes. The Talbots AirKnit pintuck wide leg pants come in misses, petite, plus and plus sizes, and they’re $99.50. So, at about $40 less, I think they’re a really nice option.
I especially like the AirKnit dolman sleeve jacket. It has a pretty pleat in the back to give it an interesting drape. And the quarter length sleeves could be fun to work with, too. It’s just a nice swingy, slightly cropped option you could even wear with other pants or joggers, too.

But above I swapped in the AirKnit cowl-neck tank. I was a little skeptical about this neckline, but it actually felt good and looked a little sophisticated. (I am so sorry about that dusty mirror. Not my fault, of course, but still.)

And finally I tried the AirKnit stretch sleeveless dress. This peri blue is so nice, but it does come in black, too. I’m wearing a medium, and I feel like it’s a little blousy. But I don’t think a small would fit in the hips.
I guess the AirKnit collection is not considered T by Talbots because they are NOT marked as 30% off. But the peri blue snap placket pullover below is, and I really like this piece.

You can wear the snap placket pullover over a tank or tee, of course, but I’m wearing it alone here. It’s a nice lightweight fabric and the texture is really pretty. I did tuck the rather large drawstring up under the cinched waist. I’m wearing it with the navy out and about stretch jogger, one of my all time favorite joggers. They run true to size.
Well, that’s a wrap! I wish things were marked down more. But alas you can get 25% off one full-price item (on multiple orders even!) with code REFRESH through July 28. And T by Talbots are 30% off, but today is the FINAL DAY. And then you do get an extra 40% off markdowns today as well.

Blessed for My Day
What do you do when you don’t know what to do? Do you Google it? Phone a friend? Worry and fret? Yeah, I’ve done all of the above, too. But Jehoshaphat took a different approach. He cried out to the Lord, professed his trust in Him, acknowledged the dilemma honestly and asked for His intervention. Then He assured God that he would wait for Him to do something and proclaimed that “our eyes are on You.”
Today if you’ve come up against something bigger than you, turn to the Lord. Acknowledge that you don’t have this, you don’t even know what to do. Then put your faith in God to move and work in His time. Keep your eyes on Him when you get restless with the waiting. Anticipate that He will indeed work. No, you don’t have this. But God does.
O our God…we are powerless before this great multitude who are coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” ~ 2 Chronicles 12:20
Great try-on Kay! You look good in every blazer you try on. Thank you for showing the latest Talbots
I’m so glad you found it helpful. 😊
I think you look great in more colorful clothing. I like that these are not beige. Too bad about Talbots’ dusty mirrors. Blacks look spotty. Reflects poorly on Talbots. You would think that if they know they have a blogger in the dressing room they would clean the mirrors!!!!!!
Oh, no. I don’t want to put that on them at all. They were very busy with customers and owe me nothing. The mirror looked great to the naked eye. The camera just has a way of picking up any little lint in those bright lights. I’m glad you enjoyed the post. 😊
Fun seeing some things that are new as well as a few things from the summer as there is still a lot of summer left, I hope! I was a little surprised at the show-through of the tie blouse under the ivory pants where they were tucked in – so hard to find lighter weight, lighter color items that aren’t sheer – I have had a very difficult time finding white t-shirts that aren’t too sheer, for example- wonder when the manufacturers are going to get the message? Anyway, thanks for taking us along! I’m already getting ideas…
Hi dear Kay,
I love your outfit pink/black. I ‘ve noticed you don’t wear your lovely white gold ring. I hope you haven’t lost it. Bye from France.
Ahh, keen of you to notice. One of the prongs had a problem and James took it to a jeweler to have it repaired. I just got it back today! Yay!
The pink is stunning! I recently bought a blazer and blouse in that colour. I have been looking at styling options in my closet. Unless I misunderstand contrast in intensity I was surprised at how absolutely stunning the black and pink are together! Wow! The white and pink seem to be more of the same intensity! And same WOW but softer! Am I understanding contrast in intensity correctly-perhaps it is your colour that matches the pink so well?
Yeah, I have low contrast in intensity so low contrast pairings do best for me. And I do indeed like the soft pink and ivory for me. They’re beautiful shades.
I’m amazed you found so many cute items to try on at Talbots! I’ve been in their stores many times but often don’t find my size (medium or 8) so I haven’t made a purchase in years. I could shop on line but for pants I prefer to try on in the store.
