Talbots has their new August line out, and I recently picked up a beautiful warm blush double-breasted blazer from the collection. I’m very selective about what I allow into my closet. One of the criteria is that any new item has to play nicely with other things in my wardrobe. Bottom line, I want to be able to create at least three outfits with each item. And I prefer those looks to have different vibes or uses. So today I’m styling that feminine, double-breasted blazer three ways. Which is your favorite?

A double-breasted blazer can feel a little overwhelming on some frames. Fortunately this textured double-breasted blazer is available in misses, petite, plus and plus petite sizing. The 99% cotton and 1% Spandex fabric is soft to the touch and has just a little stretch. The jacket is fully lined in 100% polyester, so it slips on and off easily and wears beautifully. The jacket features classy, functional gold buttons on the front and the cuffs. It runs true to size.
1st Way to Wear a Feminine, Double-Breasted Blazer

I would love to pair this warm blush textured double-breasted blazer with a pair of ivory dress slacks. However, I don’t own any. So, building on that inspiration, I created an elevated casual look with my tile white straight crop jeans from Madewell. The straight but slim fit jean works so nicely with the voluminous jacket. The color combo was an instant favorite.

I topped the tile white straight crop jeans with a natural white silk shirt to create a column of ivory under the warm blush blazer. To complete the look, I wore my pearl detail sandals (now 60% off and also available in black, 50% off). I sized up 1/2 size on those sandals, by the way, to my normal European size.
Spoiler alert: I think that first outfit was my favorite of the three. But I do think the next two looks are great options, too.
2nd Way to Wear a Feminine, Double-Breasted Blazer

The other two new arrivals that I ordered from Talbots are the warm blush soft satin charmeuse tank and the tailored stretch slim wide ankle pants. These pants have a wide leg, but not too wide. And the trousers have a slim to the body fit.

I found these tailored stretch slim wide ankle pants to fit true to size, but for a slightly snug fit. All the same, they are created in a thick, close-weave fabric of 63% polyester, 32% Viscose and 5% Spandex. So they have some nice stretch. Talbots calls the fabric “Tailored Stretch Fabric for all-day comfort and a fabulous fit.” And I’d say that describes these polished trousers well. The ankle pants also come in ivory and a vibrant berry. And you can get them in misses, petite, plus and plus petite sizes.

To make sure that I get optimal wear out of any topper I bring into my wardrobe, I always purchase a tank, shell, tee or blouse in the same color. And I especially love it when the brand offers one or more of those items in the exact same colorway. This time Talbots actually has a few options in this same warm blush. I’ll share those in the shopping widget at the bottom of this post. But I selected the elegant soft satin charmeuse tank. One of the most elevated looks you can create with a jacket is to wear that same color underneath. You’ll never go wrong with this style formula.

I completed this 2 over 1 outfit formula with my cappuccino suede Bianka slingbacks. They are such versatile shoes. And they come in a lot of other colors and textures, too. I also have the gold leaf and just love them. In fact, they would have been a nice choice if I wanted to dress this outfit up a bit more. But this particular combination is really nice for the office, I think.
3rd Way to Wear a Feminine, Double-Breasted Blazer

I carried the same shoulder bag and wore those same slingbacks for my final of the three looks. I created another column presentation. This time I wore a black ribbed tank over the black ankle pants for a column of black under the jacket.

For all three looks I’ve worn my Bony Levy diamond pendant necklace with my Ana Luisa jewelry. I’m wearing the pearl hoop earrings, the pearl and flower bracelet and the triple bead necklace. I love the way those gold plated fashion pieces work so nicely with my fine jewelry necklace.

I don’t think I’ve mentioned that the textured double-breasted jacket is also available in ivory. Either would work beautifully now and for the fall. And Talbots has so many other beautiful pieces in this collection that will work nicely with either blazer. So I’ve created a shopping widget with all of those plus the individual items I’m wearing. Just click on the image to shop.
Thank you so much for stopping in today. I shared that the first outfit was my favorite of the three ways to wear the double-breasted blazer. I think I like it because it’s a mix of casual and dressy. And I love the soft colors, too. Which is your favorite way to wear this versatile blazer? And do you have other ideas for how you could integrate it into your wardrobe? I’d love to hear from you in the comments. Have a blessed day!

Blessed for My Day
When we are convicted of our sin it is only natural to feel the weight of the guilt and be sad. But as we appropriate the grace of God, He desires for our mourning to turn to joy. As we realize that we can stand before Him with a clean heart because of what Jesus accomplished on the cross, we can wipe away our tears and feel our hearts lift. And then we keep dust ourselves off and move forward with hope.
Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, endured the cross for the “joy set before Him” and has now sat down at the right hand of the Father. (Hebrews 12:2) What was that joy set before Him? Our salvation! He gladly, willingly and joyfully wanted to restore our relationship with our Creator. And because He has done that, His joy is now our strength. His joy provides us with the determination, the reason and the strength to keep pressing forward…even after we’ve made yet another mistake.
Then he said to them, “Go, eat of the fat, drink of the sweet, and send portions to him who has nothing prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” ~ Nehemiah 8:10

Pretty color of pink on you. I don’t care for it with black. Too much contrast which doesn’t work well for you. Me either. I found your idea of contrast in dressing very, very helpful. Made me realize why I love certain combos over others. Have a nice day
I completely agree. Just sharing what might work for someone else, I guess. But I definitely prefer the jacket with the ivory for me. And I think if I were to wear it with blue jeans, which I probably will, it would be with light wash jeans. Thanks for sharing!
I think I would love the pink jacket, pink tank, and ivory slacks!
I am considering a pair of Madewell white jeans. Did you order the same size you would wear in their darker jeans?
Yes, I do generally size down at Madewell. I almost always wear a 31 in jeans these days, but in those I got the 29 and they fit great. I actually tried on the 30s and they were just a little bulky.
Hi Kay,
I’ve been looking at the blush blazers for several years… Is this blush color more of a salmon color, or true light pink?
Also does the “texture” of this blazer feel soft? Would you compare it to a flannel-type material, for example?
And one more question (more personal) is there a reason you almost always wear double-breasted blazers rather than single breasted? Just curious? There seems to be a great quantity of them at various clothing sites.
Thank you for any light you can shed on these questions.
I appreciate all that you are doing and like all the tips and videos that you send our way. Sometimes I just forget to hit the “like” icon, nevertheless, they are so great.
You’re the best!
Janie
Hi Jane, I’d say it runs more toward pink than salmon. The fabric is almost a pique. It is soft to the touch, but does have a textured appearance. No, it’s not like flannel, more like a pique, but not as nubby. Hmm. I don’t think I really wear double breasted more than single, but maybe I do. I love my Veronica Beard Miller dickey jackets, and probably wear them the most. I guess they are a type of double breasted blazer, but still very fitted. I just select the blazers that look best on my frame. I do love all the gold buttons on the front of the Millers and this one. Ha! So maybe that’s what grabs me. Not a trend or style decision, just a personal, jacket by jacket basis, I guess. Thank you for your kindness and encouragement. I really appreciate it more than you know.
My dream wish is for you to come to my closet in Wooster Ohio and do a makeover!! Ha Ha!!
Ahh, that would be wonderful. I’m not sure I’d know where to begin though. I’m definitely not a personal stylist, just a gal doing the research. But thank you so much for your enthusiasm and kindness.
I love that colour of pink. I don’t think it goes well with black, though.
Though I like all the outfits, i too prefer the first one. Softer looking. Nice BFMD.
All gorgeous outfits and a little out of my price range combining all the pieces you wear. I don’t know if it would look the same wearing less expensive clothing and accessories. Pink is not a color you would normally associate with fall but this is a very nice blazer for sure.
The pink blazer is nice. you styled it well! I especially like it with the navy
I’m with the “outfit one” crowd, as far as what looks best on you. 🙂 The blazer with a light or medium wash denim also would be good.
I just ordered the blazer, thanks for bringing it to our attention.
Just like Michelle Obama influenced lots of sleeveless, fashions I’m wondering if Vice President Harris will influence women to wear more blazers & suits.
I think the first look suits your coloring and style the best – also think the blazer would go nicely with soft gray jeans or pants and pretty print tops in coordinating colors or over a print dress. It’s lovely
I thoroughly enjoyed your feature on the various ways to wear a pink blazer. I never would have put together the outfits you did with that blazer as I felt it would be too limited. Thank you you again for that feature, along with all your others. I’m almost 70 which has looking at my wardrobes so differently now.
I particularly loved the Blush Blazer with the Ivory Pants and top , very fresh and pretty 💗🤍. loved your BFMD today I needed that ♥️. So pleased your week has ended better than it started and your blues have gone 💙🤗
Yes! Love your recommendation to purchase a top in the same color as the topper for more wearing options! Also noticed some of your styling formulas going on here-thanks Kay! Have a good weekend!
Your devotional message is always the best. I like the blazer in the first outfit instead of with black. With my skin tone I look best with a medium contrast. I couldn’t figure out why some deep or really bright colors even in my colors didn’t look good on me till you wrote a post about that. I wish I could find it and read it again.
I remember a video Kay did a year or two ago about contrast dressing. I found it to be very helpful, in addition to several blog posts she’s done. You may be able to find the blog post through the search function on her website. Maybe search for “contrast”, “intensity” or another term she focused on the in blog article. Just a thought…
Thank you Lynda. I will try that.
I love the third outfit
the column of black under the blush jacket looks so smart and classy
i always like light coloured trousers on other people but i am not brave enough to wear them myself
so i always opt for the safe option of dark trousers
what do other mature ladies think about white trousers or shorts
