Welcome to our second day of Fall Trends Week 2024 here at Dressed for My Day. While we’re still enjoying the occasional dip in the pool, the final summer produce from our gardens, another batch of home churned ice cream and the last of the fireflies or lightening bugs, we’re beginning to plan out our fall wardrobes with intention and thought. In tomorrow’s YouTube video I’ll share a more thorough list of some of the fall fashion trends most wearable for women over 50. But today I’ve got a short list of a few Fall 2024 Trends you can easily begin wearing now or very soon.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.
Not only are these fall trends wearable in our still warm to hot weather, but we’re already seeing them in the stores. You may even have some of these already in your closet.
Denim Dresses
Oh my! I’m seeing gorgeous denim dresses everywhere I look. I remember I had the most beautiful denim long-sleeved dress when I was in my late 20s. How I wish I had that dress back now. Alas, there are plenty to choose from, however. In fact, I’ve already ordered the Solange Dress from Jude Connally below. Granted, it’s not made from traditional cotton denim, but super comfortable “Jude denim.”

I love the look of this 100% cotton denim dress from Talbots. It’s 25% off today for the Fall Fashion Event. And I also ordered the denim western midi shirtdress from Madewell. One of the reasons I love the idea of investing in this trend is that you can definitely wear it into winter and then even through spring. And since denim dresses have a classic vibe, you can wear it confidently even after it stops trending so high. I’ve rounded up a nice selection for you to see more examples. To shop the items below in the shopping widget, just click on the photo.
Denim Skirts
We saw denim skirts surge in popularity last year, and they’re holding their own this fall and winter. I continue to see them in midi length primarily, but you’ll also find jean skirts in mini and maxi lengths. So definitely choose the length that best suits your build and frame.

I’ll still be wearing the denim skirt I purchased last year from J.Crew, but I love the look of this reasonably priced skirt from Kohl’s. I also like the polished look of the refined denim skirt at Talbots. They also have a more casual, traditional option.
Ankle Length Jeans
And speaking of denim, now is time to update your jeans selection with a pair of wide or relaxed straight leg jeans in an ankle length. You can wear these trending jeans now and most of fall. And my bet is they will still look very modern next spring.

I’ve collected a nice selection from some of my favorite brands below.
Sweater Vests
It seems like we’ve been including sweater vests – both button-up and pullover – in our fall trend reports for a few years. So they may be reaching the pinnacle of their popularity this year. We sure are seeing a lot of them. Right now you can wear a sweater vest alone or over a tank top or tee. Later you’ll be able to wear most of them over long sleeve tees or button-up shirts, depending on the particular vest.

I purchased a couple of vests from J.Crew last year, so I think I’m set. But if you don’t have a trending vest, you’ll find so many great options below in a full range of prices.
Trending Ballet Flats
Do you love wearing ballet flats? They’re so on trend again this fall. And especially as we move into this new season, these feminine flats will serve you well. You can wear them with those ankle length jeans, denim skirts and dresses, as well as other cropped length pants.

I’ve already added the Paul Green Ursula ballet flats in leopard print to my fall wardrobe. I really am not supposed to wear flats at all because of my metatarsalgia, but these Paul Green flats are nicely cushioned and very comfortable. I purchased them in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale when they were about 25% off, but they are still available in the leopard print, metallic suede and red suede – all equally modern. But we’ve rounded up so many other great options below, too, at a full range of prices.
Elevated Bomber Jackets
While I’ve been seeing bomber jackets for the past couple of years, this year we’re seeing jackets that are a little more elevated. I think the example from Talbots below hits the nail on the head. This tweed bomber jacket looks polished enough to wear with classic slacks or trousers, but it will also elevate a basic pair of jeans, t-shirt and sneakers combo.

Look for bomber jackets in satin, wool, boucle, tweed, linen blends, corduroy and so much more. Sometimes they’re not necessarily called bomber jackets, but the have the same boxy cut with the wide waistband. They may snap, button or zip in the front. And they may or may not have collars. Most are a little shorter this year and a little more compact, making them perfect to wear with wide leg trousers or jeans.
Thanks so much for joining me for today’s Fall 2024 Fashion Trends to Wear Now. Let me know if you’re enjoying any of these already or looking to add them to your wardrobe. And be sure to join me tomorrow at noon EDT for the Premiere of the Fall 2024 Fashion Trends Most Wearable for Women Over 50 YouTube video. If you can’t make it for the premiere, the video will still be available as usual afterwards.

Blessed for My Day
Have you encouraged anyone recently? Truly, there is no better gift you could give to someone today. Sometimes we miss the opportunity to encourage because we’re intent on instructing or solving or assisting or correcting. But those actions frequently don’t get the responses we had anticipated. Think about it: when someone tries to correct you are you really prone to willingly and gladly follow suit?
I’ve discovered that I’m much more amenable to encouragement in the form of kindness and affirmation than I am correction. That’s just human nature. And I’ve also found that when I cheer on and show appreciation to others they are more likely to get better and better at what they do without my “help.” Sweet encouragement goes so much further than criticism or correction. Who can you bless with kind encouragement today?
We urge you, brothers and sisters, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone. ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:14

Thanks for the great encouragement to do kind encouragement. those words encouraged me to send kind words to my daughter in an email. My love. I have a hard time with her
being grown-up, living on her own in Tokyo. I live 3 hours away by bullet train. I miss her something fierce.
It is indeed hard living far from those we love. I miss my kids, too. 🥰
Another great devotional thought. It happened to me yesterday…I could tell someone was trying to give me an instruction on some issue and it just didn‘t set well with me at all. Human nature again! I can work on giving encouragement myself. Thank you!
That Solange dress by Jude Connally is super cute! What size did you order? I am 5’8″, 155 pounds (pear shaped) and 69-years old. I’m thinking I will need the longer length large. Great BFMD, I’m going to send an encouraging text to all three of my children. So often, I feel the need to try to solve their problems instead of just encouraging them to be their best.
I usually wear a medium in Jude Connally so that’s what I ordered. Fingers crossed!
Good point-encouragement instead of criticism!
I just bought a faux cream leather jacket similar to those you rounded up only mine had a belt. Are these meant to be outer wear or a completer piece?
I’d say it could be worn as either, but you can definitely wear it with the outfit as a completer piece. It just really depends on your preferences, the weather or climate and your activities.
I’ve always loved ballet flats, so I’m glad to see them back on trend. I picked up a sleeveless sweater this season, which I really love and anticipate wearing quite a bit once the weather cools off a bit. Denim dress – very cute but not sure is practical for me. I have my eye on one I like, in case it ever goes on sale. Then it might be worth a try. 🙂 Your devotional today is perfect. I used to have a Christian friend – now home with the Lord (cancer) – who was the ultimate encourager. She touched so many lives.
