July 30, 2024

I know it’s steamy hot outside, but, believe it or not, it’s not too early for a fall fashion trend report for 2024. Not only have brands been creating their fall fashions for months by now, but they’re starting to show up in the stores, too. And with the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale including so many great fall styles for 2024, it’s always good to check there for an early indication of what will be popular in the coming season.

Early Fall Trend Report 2024

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

So I’m leaning into the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale for this early fall fashion trend report, but, because this isn’t a sponsored post or anything, I’m sharing available items from other stores, too. There may not be as many from other stores, but I’m sure I’ll have a few. Let’s check out a few of the fall fashion trends I’m seeing from the #NSale.

Leopard is on the prowl again.

Yes, they’re saying leopard print will be trending again this year. Of course, leopard print is truly a classic print and never out of style. But when we say it’s trending that simply means it’s “having a moment.” This is the time to pull it back to the front of your closet and enjoy it all the more.

Paul Green Ursula Ballet Flats in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2024
Paul Green Ursula ballet flats – I sized up 1/2 size for a more comfortable fit – Sale: $279.99 – After Sale: $398.00

I’ve gathered up a few other early arrivals in leopard print, so if you’re eager to shop this classic animal print just click on the items below. You can scroll all of the shopping widgets to see additional products. Be forewarned. Some of these are very pricey. The first trends to the party generally are. But more affordable options will be showing up soon! And again, a few are available in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but others are from other retailers.

It’s the Year of the Trouser.

As we’ve been moving toward wider, more relaxed fit jeans and pants over the last few years, the classic trouser has very much come back into vogue. Think Katherine Hepburn in her classic, pleat front trousers with the high waistband and maybe a cuff at the hemline. I’ve already purchased a few pairs of these, and I’m having these navy trousers hemmed at Nordstrom right now.

wide-leg casual pants
Harlow wide leg trousers (also here)

The best example in a photo that I have of this trend is the Harlow wide leg trousers (also here) I purchased last fall (above). They’re still available and on sale. But I’m seeing so many more of these this year.

And the Year of the Skirt, Too.

But the while we’ll see true trousers trending, I expect to also see more and more skirts. Expect them mostly to be full or A-line. And look for skirts in crisp cotton, wool, corduroy, denim and silk.

Styling a Pleated Midi Skirt 2 Ways for Fall
my Gwyneth pleated skirt is still available in some new colors this year

Most of the skirts in the shopping widget below are in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but I included a few noteworthy styles from other favorite retailers, including the Gwyneth pleated skirt from J.Crew.

Stripes Continue to Strike a Chord

If the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is any indicator of the trends to come, then we can definitely expect stripes to continue to strike a chord.

Stripes Continue to Strike a Chord
Wit & Wisdom ‘Ab’solution Skyrise High Waist Ankle Bootcut Jeans // Rails Geneva Stripe cotton blend cardigan // Kate Spade NY large Carlisle leather tote // Paul Green Ursula ballet flats

My Rails Geneva Stripe cotton blend cardigan above has sold out several times, but it keeps showing up in various sizes as returns come in. The reviews are mixed, but I think some customers didn’t read the description very well before ordering. I got exactly what I expected or maybe even a little better. It’s silky soft and has a lovely drape. I got my true to size medium.

Jackets Rule

Of course jackets are just a category of clothing – kind of like trousers and skirts, ha! But I expect we’re going to feel more compelled than ever to complete our most stylish outfits with jackets. And really I’m seeing every kind of jacket imaginable in the spotlight, from longline blazers to shorter military styles, from cardigan-like knit blazers to cropped utility jackets, from sporty bomber jackets to rocking leather motos. It’s just the year to top every outfit with a jacket.

I guess the main theme of all of these jackets is that they’re a little more casual, more sporty than in years past. Even the more elegant lady jackets are generally shown worn in a casual outfit. And comfort continues to rule. I think the idea is to choose a jacket silhouette or two that really suits your lifestyle and personal style and then build a number of outfits you love with each.

Jean Silhouettes Continue to Relax

As has been the case for the last couple of years, jean silhouettes will continue to be a little all over the place. But over all, we can expect them to be mostly straight or wide, as well as relaxed. While I keep hearing murmurs of the return of the skinny, I don’t really see much of that in the street trends.

Paige Sasha Jeans
Paige Sasha High Waist Column Straight Leg Jeans // Theory double faced wool and cashmere car coat (TTS; Med.) // Vince Mélange Shaker stitch pullover sweater (TTS; Med.)

Basically, if you’ve purchased modern jeans in the past couple of years you should be able to continue to wear those with confidence. And if you’ve yet to dip your toe into a pair of straight leg, wide leg or bootcut jeans yet…this should be your year. It takes trying on a number of pair to find the sweet spot most often. But once you find some that feel good and work well for your body type and proportions, you’re going to love the effect. That said, if you just really prefer a more slim fit, we’re continuing to see slim fit straight leg jeans a plenty. This Paige Cindy High Waist Ankle Straight Leg Jeans could be your jam, in fact. I have a pair from last year and they’re a top seller for a reason.

Red Reigns

And the final trend I’ll point out today from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is that red definitely reigns this fall. Sure, we’re also seeing other colors like navy, grey, green and violet. But red is showing up in everything from coats to cardigans, from handbags to shoes.

Vince Vide slingback flats (TTS to slightly large)

I love wearing red already, so I’ll definitely participate in this trend. And this year I’ve already added the Vince Vide slingback flats in crimson to my accessory wardrobe. They’ll be fun to wear with jeans and cropped length pants.

Thanks so much for stopping in today for this early fall fashion forecast. I know many of you have been perusing and shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, too. What trends have you seen there? I’d love to hear from you today.

Remember, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is mostly new, fall merchandise that will return to regular price next Monday, August 5. You can see all of my extensive Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2024 coverage HERE. And on LTK check my coverage out HERE.

Spread the love

Blessed for My Day

Has your heart broken for someone or over some thing lately? Sometimes when we feel the depth of emotions for another person or even a cause, we assume that everyone else surely feels that, too, and we miss the calling that sometimes comes with that kind of heartache. Indeed, God may be giving you a deep burden for another person or a particular issue because He is calling you to stand in the gap. Don’t dismiss those strong feelings; instead, allow them to draw you to your knees.

There is much going on in our world right now that calls us to prayer. We all hear about and see different things. And some of us are given deep insight or heavy hearts or great sensitivity to these issues and/or the people involved. Instead of spending our energies discussing them with one another, maybe we need to draw to God in fasting and prayer. He is the one who can do something. And He might call you to do something, too.

When I heard these words, I sat down and wept and mourned for days; and I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven.  ~ Nehemiah 4:1

  1. I enjoyed BFMD today. Sometimes I am thinking so hard about someone and that is when I call them to make sure they are ok. I pray for them too.

  2. Hi Kay so pleased you are feeling a bit better today ♥️Your BFMD was so right today , there is so much to feel terribly sad about in the news recently 😢I will keep praying .

Autumn/Fall in your post today has all my favourite things , Smart wide leg trousers a la’ Katherine Hepburn and the jeans too. Leopard Print ( Love your shoes, so dainty), Skirts, Stripes and RED Oooh ♥️.

  3. Love the pleated skirt and sweater. The purse and necklace compliment the outfit. Also love the 3/4 length jacket. Wonderful selections all around. I’m in no rush for fall, though!

  4. Kay, good morning.
Years ago my mother gave my sister and me cotton pajamas that I believe you featured months/a year ago.
The ones featured were white and I think the fabric is called a shadow stripe.
It was a boxy type of button down, collared top and pants with elastic waist. There was a pocket on the left front chest.

I would love to find another pair. I wore mine until it was worn out. Mine was blue and my sister’s was pink. I hope you can recall what I am poorly describing. Thank you so much.

  5. Hi Kay,

I love thinking about autumn at this time of year. Don’t have a lot of climate variation where I live, but I still enjoy a little seasonal change in wardrobe.

Leopard, yes, please! Trousers and skirts, I am always wearing them for work. Stripes, I’m finding I like them more recently than in previous years. Jackets, I can only wear in winter, but I like a nice blazer from time to time, and I always love a jean jacket! And red, I love red. Wearing red today as a matter of fact!

Only thing I can’t seem to make work thus far – the wider jeans. I’ve tried so many pairs, and nothing looks right on me. My best friend has also said the same thing. We’re both petite, and just feel so swallowed up in wide leg jeans.

BFMD – so true, and lately a lot of what is going on in this nation is burdening me. I ask the Lord for wisdom in prayer, word and deed.

  6. I rarely read your blessed for my day but somehow fell on it today. In the uk, there has been a terrible tragedy. A summer school of young kids, dancing to Tyler Swift were attacked by a 17 year old lad. He entered and knifed many of them. 3 children have died, a further 5 are critical, as are 2 teachers who tried to protect them. 3 families have lost a child at an event that was supposed to be safe and joyful. Another 7 families are keeping vigil over their loved ones. The rest of the class are scarred for life. The world is indeed in a mess, and heaven knows the uk is not alone in such matters, but please include these families and children in your prayers and thoughts. 🙏

    1. Oh my goodness, I had not heard about this. How horrific. Indeed I am pausing right now to pray for these families. Mercy.

  7. Love your devotional message. I like all the trends. I already have them all. I’ve been embracing wide leg jeans and pants ever since they came out. I never liked skinny jeans and wore straight legs. You’re right about finding your own proportion for wide legs. I’m petite and slim and I think I look taller with wide legs especially with the high waist. I do think body type has something to do with it too. Hourglass and rectangle body types can probably wear them more easily. The few stores that have fall clothes in my area have a lot of rust colored pieces. I’m glad you are better. I will watch your video later in the week.
