I’ve been sharing spring outfit inspiration for several months now, so I think it’s time to turn our attention toward summer. Yes, we still have several weeks of spring left, but, like a good fashion magazine, I try to be a step ahead of the seasons so that my readers and viewers can feel confident walking into each one. But before I share the Summer Wardrobe Essentials later this week, I thought I’d round up my favorite styles for a spring outfits lookbook.

I’ll share these outfits in order of very casual to more formal. Of course, I live a pretty casual lifestyle, so you can expect this Spring Outfits Lookbook to be heavier on those. I’m not sharing a lot of detail about each outfit, but instead I’m linking you to the blog post, video or snapshot where you can learn more. You can also shop the outfits at those destinations.

Very Casual Spring Outfits
Let’s start with the most casual outfits. Even when I’m working from home, going for a hike or even working out, I like to look pulled together a little stylish. Maybe that’s just me? What about you?
Spring Outfit #1

Golf anyone? The outfit above is my favorite for hitting the greens. See this post for more details.
Spring Outfit #2
And here’s another comfortable, sporty outfit to wear when hitting the course or the court. See this post for more details.

Spring Outfit #3
Next, here’s a simple spring outfit I wore for a Saturday working at home. See this original post for more details.

The lounge pants above became fast favorites. They’re a lightweight fleece, so they work nicely for lounging in the evenings, too.
Spring Outfits for Cooler Weather
Spring Outfit #4
After spending three springs in Ohio, I finally learned the value of having not one, but several simple cotton sweaters in my wardrobe for spring.

And this year pretty colored button-up shirts have been trending high. So I’ve enjoyed combining those two elements to create warm but spring-like outfits for the season.

Spring Outfit #5
The white cotton fisherman sweater from J.Crew is a good one, but the oatmeal colored Jenni Kayne cotton fisherman sweater has been my real favorite. This is such a good quality sweater; I know I’ll enjoy it for years!

And I especially love how that cotton fisherman sweater pairs with black. So chic!
Spring Outfit #6
Below I’m wearing a great 3/4 length sleeve t-shirt with another good cotton sweater. Then I switched those tops out for the pretty sweatshirt. Both are good options for a cool spring day.

Everything above is still available and now it’s all discounted.
Spring Outfit #7
Here’s that Jenni Kayne cotton fisherman sweater again, this time with white jeans. That’s definitely another favorite pairing.

I’ve also really enjoyed having a couple of great scarves in my wardrobe for spring. They really help pull together basic outfits like the one above. I’ve mostly worn my Sarah Flint blue canopy silk scarf (use code SARAHFLINTBA-KAYH for $50 off first pair of SF shoes – may work on scarves?) above and my Talbots black and white butterfly scarf below.
Spring Outfit #7
Black and white is always a favorite of mine, but I made this color combo more spring appropriate by adding a splash of cheerful color in my blue mac (similar option).

Right now is a great time to purchase a similar mac since they’re on sale now. These are jackets you’ll wear spring after spring.
Spring Outfit #8
And of course a denim jacket is another closet staple that can help create great spring outfits for cooler weather.

Casual with Jeans but Pulled Together
This is probably the biggest category because this is pretty much where I live. These are everyday outfits that are generally ideal for the casual lifestyles many of us lead. Some outfits are more geared toward cool spring days while others are good for days closer to summer. But in all of these outfits I’m wearing jeans.
We’ll start with blue jeans.
Spring Outfit #9
Below I’m wearing full length straight leg jeans, which are not my favorite. But I know many of my readers still prefer this silhouette and length. These lighter wash straight leg jeans are especially nice for spring and summer.

Create a very cohesive look by combining the light wash straight leg jeans with a low intensity sleeveless popover and an ivory unstructured blazer.
Spring Outfit #10
This jeans outfit with a shirtdress worn as a completer piece is one of my favorites. See more here.

Of course you’ll see that shirtdress again!
Spring Outfit #11
Let’s talk outfit formulas, shall we? One of my favorite style formulas is to wear the same color top and jacket, like I did below with my Veronica Beard linen blazer (more economical option) and this fun summery graphic t-shirt.

Spring Outfit #12
Here’s another favorite spring outfit with that same formula. But I love the addition of a soft toned scarf.

The key to working this outfit formula consistently and easily on any given spring morning is making sure you have at least a tank top that matches every blazer or jacket you bring into our closet.
Spring Outfit #13
That’s exactly what I did when I purchased this pretty bright pink windbreaker. I immediately ordered the vivid begonia v-neck tee to wear with it.

// See the original post for details.
Spring Outfit #14
Of course the vivid begonia v-neck tee also works nicely with other things in my wardrobe, like my utility jacket. This jacket is no longer available, but I recently got this utility jacket in and it’s even more modern.

A utility jacket is another great completer piece for spring. In this blog post I shared lots of options.
Spring Outfit #15
I wear a lot of white jeans in the spring and summer. Actually I have two favorite pairs and just wear them over and over. Ha!

These J.Crew white jeans (size down; wearing a 29) have been clear favorites. They’re such a nice thickness and a classic silhouette.
Spring Outfit #16
I love white jeans with navy. And this navy Veronica Beard Miller dickey blazer (also here) is such a staple in my closet.

It’s often the simplest formulas that work the best. White jeans + tank + blazer is a great combo any way you work it.
Spring Outfit #16
Below I worked that combo with a utility jacket instead.

Spring Outfit #17

Another classic color combination for spring, in my mind, is white, pink and navy. Above I completed the look with nude sandals.
Spring Outfit #18
Those same sandals finished off this black and white combination nicely, too.

Spring Outfit #19

And of course white jeans also work nicely with a bright colored button-up shirt.
Spring Outfit #20
And as we get closer to summer, it’s a great time to add a linen shirt over white jeans. Here I’ve created a column of white under a blue linen shirt.

A column of color – even white – can be very slenderizing.
Spring Outfit #21
As much as I love white jeans for summer, I still enjoy pulling out the black jeans occasionally, too. They’re so slenderizing.

Above I topped the black jeans with my white tank and a pop of bold color with my Veronica Beard blue blazer (sold out, but similar at Saks).
Spring Outfit #22
And here’s another black jeans outfit with a bold pop of color.

I like having black sandals in my spring and summer wardrobe to wear with black jeans.
Spring Outfits with Black Pants
Let’s move on to outfits with black pants.
Spring Outfit #23
Black trousers in a four-season or lightweight fabric are smart for spring and summer, especially for work.

See more of the above look in this original post.
Spring Outfit #24
And below I’m wearing those same black trousers with a more casual combination.

A denim jacket can help turn your work outfit into the perfect look for a casual dinner out.
Spring Outfit #25

In this post I shared how I create a spring outfit starting with black and white.
Spring Outfit #26
But I’ve enjoyed another pair of black pants this spring and summer, too. The Talbots Bristol pants feature modern pleats at the front and a trending loose fit straight leg.

I shared in this post that the above outfit is a good one to wear to a graduation this spring or summer.
Spring Outfit #27
This outfit with the black Talbots Bristol pants and striped tee has been a favorite this spring. Tres chic!

Spring Outfit #28
Here’s another black and white outfit that’s been great for summer.

See this post for more information about the outfit above and below.

Spring Outfit #29
As much as I love wearing white jeans during the spring and summer, I also enjoy sporting white pants, such as these white Bristol pants (TTS).

Again, I appreciate the modern silhouete of these white Bristol pants.
Spring Outfit #30
The white Bristol pants feature belt loops, so I love adding a belt and giving my top a casual front tuck.

Spring Outfit #31
Oh my! Here’s another favorite with the white Bristol pants. While the white Bristol pants do not exactly match my ivory linen blazer, the combination looks polished together.

Spring Outfit #32
But I also love the elegant simplicity of the white Bristol pants with a cashmere tee.

Spring Outfit #33
And I can’t leave out this fun “event worthy” outfit with my white Bristol pants. I featured this outfit in my What to Wear to a Local Performance or Event post.

Spring Outfit #34
I’ve also recently added the J.Jill white linen relaxed crops to my closet. I’ve created three spring outfits with these so far.

Spring Outfit #35
The relaxed crops also come in other colors, and I find them to run large. I’m wearing a size small.

Spring Outfit #36
See the original post for more information on these three outfits with the relaxed crops from J.Jill.

Of course you could create any of these white pants outfits with white jeans or other white trousers, too.
Spring Outfit #37
Next I have a couple of outfits with my rattan Hampshire ankle pants. These camel trousers are also very versatile and really four-season.

Spring Outfit #38
The rattan Hampshire ankle pants work nicely with navy, too. This is a classic work style.

Spring Outfit #39
The print blouse shown above and below is no longer available. But you can find lots of similar options where I got that one, at Ann Taylor.

Spring Skirt and Dress Outfits
Spring Outfit #40
Let’s wrap up this spring outfit lookbook with skirts and dresses.

I featured the outfit above in my Spring Date Night Outfits video.
Spring Outfit #41
Because I love neutrals all year long, I really enjoy the two skirt outfits below.

Spring Outfit #42
The simple but sweet skirt outfit below is all from Kohl’s.

Spring Outfit #43
And this tiered maxi skirt outfit is another comfortable and fun one.

Spring Outfit #44
The outfit below is a pricey one, but use it for inspiration. I’m loving full midi length skirts this spring.

Spring Outfit #45
I shared this first spring dress outfit in my Spring Date Night Outfits video. This Clara Sunwoo dress and jacket are so chic. And both pieces are very versatile.

You can use code KAY10 at Clara Sunwoo for 10% off your purchase. I’m wearing the Liquid Leather signature jacket in pink and the v-neck sleeveless dress. The links don’t seem to be working for the individual pieces, so just put those titles in the search engine to easily locate them.
Spring Outfit #46
This casual shirtdress from L.L.Bean is another personal favorite. Remember, I wore it above with jeans, but it’s a great little dress.

Spring Outfit #47
This J.McLaughlin dress is feminine and lovely, making it versatile enough for dressy or more casual situations.

Spring Outfit #48
The Lauren by Ralph Lauren dress below is pretty for church, but also lovely enough for a daytime wedding.

Spring Outfit #49
This Chaus floral dress is about sold out, but use it to inspire you to wear bold florals. They’re trending and you absolutely can wear them, even over 50.

Spring Outfit #50
And this Maggy London eyelet tiered midi dress is a perfect example of the eyelet trend that we’re enjoying right now. You certainly can wear eyelet over 50, but I’d choose pieces that stay within your personal style aesthetic.

Thanks so much for dropping in. I hope you enjoyed the Spring Outfit Lookbook.

Blessed for My Day
We communicate so much with our facial expressions, posture and body language. And of course when we open our mouths word choice, tone of voice and inflection tell more of the story of what’s in our hearts and minds. So when we pray for God to help us speak with grace and kindness, we’re asking a lot. The good news is that while we struggle to bridle our tongues, He absolutely can help us to speak words of grace.
But I’ve learned that there is no circumventing the harder work of taming our speech. We must prepare our hearts each day by reading God’s Word and praying. When we spend time with God and allow Him to set our hearts and focus, we are more apt to speak in a way that reflects His love and grace.
Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Your speech must always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person. ~ Colossians 4:5-6
Wow, Kay – you outdid yourself with this post!
Outstanding, love the casual looks.
Thank you for all the work you had to have done to create this post. Very helpful to this old gal who has always had a love for clothing. You illustrate there are still many fine options available for even 70 yr olds. And I also appreciate your faith-full comments in each post as well.
Thank you, Kay! You have given us a true treasure trove of inspiration. I continue to be amazed at the simple changes I can make —whether footwear, color, completer piece, etc. — that give an outfit a totally different look. You’re a great teacher! One thing I could use help with is picking out the appropriate jewelry for a particular outfit. I might wonder, for example, whether dangly earrings or studs go better with an outfit. Or, how do I approach shopping for a scarf to tie an outfit together? I sometimes get bogged down with those finishing touches and give in to what feels safe or don’t wear them (scarves) at all. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again for this wealth of fashion help!
