Yippee! I always love writing this monthly post. It’s a fun way for me to run some analytics and see what is resonating with my readers here and viewers on YouTube. I hope you also enjoy finding out what has been trending in our community. My assistant Holly pulls these analytics and graphics together for me, so I just discover the results as I’m writing up the post. Let’s see what was hot at DFMD in October 2023.

I do always like to take a moment to say that I don’t really know exactly what my readers and viewers have ordered. And you can trust that your private information stays private when you shop through my links. I never know who orders anything. The analytics that we base this HOT at DFMD list on is simply the items clicked through that resulted in orders. So readers may have clicked through on one item and purchased something completely different. But at least we know these items drew interest. And more often than not I’ve discovered (from your comments and emails) that readers really did buy these HOT items.

This post contains affiliate links. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links.

HOT at DFMD in October 2023

Ooh! I see a lot of familiar and favorite items in that graphic. Let’s run down the list of HOT at DFMD in October 2023 in reverse order, starting with the 16th most popular item.

16. Talbots double breasted boiled wool blend coat

I’m thrilled that as of today I can officially wear this coat. It’s – brrrrr – freezing outside today! And I am so ready to wear this beautiful caramel colored double breasted boiled wool blend coat out and about.

Don't neglect to accessorize your outfit.

This is a great quality coat and it will work equally well with dressier and more casual outfits. I have it in a size medium and it fits true to size.

15. Veronica Beard Somner dickey jacket

Although I know I have readers and viewers who have purchased a Veronica Beard dickey jacket over the years, I think this is the first time one showed up in the top sellers. And I’m still not sure that every click through the Veronica Beard Somner dickey jacket resulted in the purchase of this specific jacket, I am pleased to see that it made the list.

(more economical option)// convertible satchel bag (more economical option) // from this blog post

This jacket, like most Veronica Beard jackets, runs slightly large; I’m wearing an 8 whereas I probably would wear a 10 in most jackets (other than Talbots). It is an investment piece that I will wear for years, and I was able to get mine almost completely with Nordy Notes. But I’m all for investing in outerwear; I think that’s the smartest place to spend most of your clothing budget, especially if you live in a climate where you wear these pieces frequently.

14. Talbots smooth link necklace

I’ve been wearing my Talbots smooth link necklace for two years now, and I love it. Simple statement necklaces like these continue to trend. And the Talbots smooth link necklace is perfect for a v-neckline.

I like to opt for simple earrings when I’m wearing my Talbots smooth link necklace. Speaking of simple earrings but beautiful earrings, I recently got these Maya hoops from Penelope Jewelry and have been wearing them almost nonstop. I love that they are 14k gold and so understated. You can use code KAY15 for 15% off at Penelope Jewelry, thanks to Rachel, the owner and creator of this custom jewelry.

13. Talbots perfect turtleneck

I’m wearing one of these Talbots perfect turtlenecks today. They’re truly the perfect weight to wear alone or under a sweater or jacket. And they come in so many great colors.

Add some color to your appearance with makeup.

The Talbots perfect turtleneck runs true to size; I wear a medium.

12. Quince 100% organic cotton fisherman crewneck sweater

Aren’t you so glad we discovered Quince? This brand is not only concerned about sustainability and affordability, but they also have high quality products. I know that viewers and readers who have purchased the Quince 100% organic cotton fisherman crewneck sweater are undoubtedly enjoying it.

Depending on your location, this Quince 100% organic cotton fisherman crewneck sweater could be a great sweater for the winter. But Quince also has equally lovely cashmere fisherman crewneck sweaters you may want to check out, too.

11. Talbots Tribeca pants

I love my Talbots Tribeca pants, too. They’re a modern silhouette with all of Talbots’ classic style. These versatile pants are perfect for casual or elevated pairings.

I’m also wearing these Talbots Tribeca pants in the photos up above with the turtlenecks and coat, just to give you a feel for how they look dressed up a bit. They fit true to size.

10. Madewell the Harlow wide-leg pants

I’m having so much fun wearing these Harlow wide-leg pants from Madewell. I hope those of you who purchased them enjoy them as much. I do think they will take us all a little trial and error and practice to style since they are a relatively new-to-us silhouette. But when you score, you’ll know it!

I’ve since purchased the chocolate raisin color in these Harlow wide-leg pants, too. I wore them Sunday with this graphic tee and my denim jacket. The wide-leg pants run a little large; I went with my lower size 8.

9. Chico’s trouser jeans

I shared that my friend Shelly wore these Chico’s trouser jeans in London and I fell in love with them. I’m hoping you did, too, if you purchased them. They’re still available and marked down 25%.

The Chico’s trouser jeans come in several different washes and are a great option if you want to stick your toe in the wide-leg jean silhouette without going in above your head. They run true to size and come in regular, petite and tall iterations.

8. Talbots denim button-front shirt

My Talbots denim button-front shirt has been a staple in my closet so far this fall. In fact, this is a shirt I keep in my wardrobe for year-round layering.

It runs true to size. And I do believe that Talbots has increased the size of their shirt sleeves a bit in the upper arm. Thank you!

7. Nordstrom wool & cashmere knit hoodie

It looks like my Nordstrom wool & cashmere knit hoodie is no longer available in this berry color. But honestly, I love the tan smoke option, too. Of course sizes are going fast there as well.

However, if you’re interested in this silhouette, I’d check out the offering at Quince. It looks just like mine and is marked down.

6. Talbots high waist straight ankle jeans in Newport

I got these Talbots high waist straight ankle jeans in Newport back in the spring and have featured them in numerous blog posts. They are comfortable and have been perfect for spring through fall.

I did cut mine off at the hemline, so the Talbots high waist straight ankle jeans in Newport really come with a finished hem. They fit true to size.

5. Talbots quilted barn jacket in spectacular animal print

Here’s another fun jacket I’m anxious to wear a little more. The Talbots quilted barn jacket in spectacular animal print is so chic and just the right weight for a cool day.

The Talbots quilted barn jacket in spectacular animal print runs true to size.

4. Talbots Laura tassel loafers

The Talbots Laura tassel loafers have worked well in my fall wardrobe. They run a little small; I sized up one half size in these.

The Talbots Laura tassel loafers are a beautiful burnished cognac color and are so on trend.

3. Talbots straight leg jeans in Florence

I’ve featured the Talbots straight leg jeans in Florence a few times now. They are a classic straight leg jean with a slim fit.

I appreciate the navy thread in this jeans; it distinguishes them as a slightly dressier option than those stitched with the traditional yellow or gold thread. They run slightly smaller than other Talbots jeans, to me. I’m still wearing my usual 8, but they are a slimmer fit.

2. Talbots classic Shetland blazer

Whether you purchased the Talbots classic Shetland blazer in this pretty berry color or the more traditional camel, I hope you are enjoying it as much as I am mine. It has a lovely, feminine silhouette and a really nice medium weight.

The Talbots classic Shetland blazer runs true to size for Talbots blazers; I’m wearing a size 8.

1. St. John’s Bay mid-rise straight leg jeans

We have a YouTube viewer to thank for the number one top seller at DFMD in October. In the comment feed a sweet viewer mentioned that she liked these jeans, so I immediately ordered a pair to check them out. I hope that assures you that I do indeed listen to my readers and viewers. And I’d like for it to also impress upon you that I always check things out for myself before I recommend them.

At any rate, these mid-rise straight leg jeans from St. John’s Bay, a JCPenney brand, topped our list this month. And they have my hearty approval.

That’s a wrap. Let me know if you purchased any of these HOT at DFMD in October 2023 items. I’d love to know what you thought of them. Have a great day!

Blessed for My Day

Yesterday I shared a few scriptures that shed light on the conflict in the Middle East right now. I’ve asked that we not comment on these, but that we simply meditate on them, asking God to give us insight and understanding on this situation. Today I’m sharing a few more pertinent scriptures and asking for the same response.

These verses tell us a little about God’s dealings with the Jewish people, His people. They explain what has happened in the past, but they also have bearing on what is to come in the future.

So I poured out my wrath upon them for the blood that they had shed in the land, for the idols with which they had defiled it. I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed through the countries. In accordance with their ways and their deeds I judged them. ~ Ezekiel 36:18-19 ESV

Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: Though I removed them far off among the nations, and though I scattered them among the countries, yet I have been a sanctuary to them for a while in the countries where they have gone.’ ~ Ezekiel 11:16 ESV

Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: I will gather you from the peoples and assemble you out of the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.’ ~ Ezekiel 11:17 ESV

Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘Behold, I am going to save My people from the land of the east and from the land of the west; and I will bring them back and they will live in the midst of Jerusalem; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God in truth and righteousness.’ ~ Zechariah 8:7-8 ESV

  1. I bought the Quince cotton fisherman sweater in my usual size. My issue is the sleeves are laughably too long, below my fingertips, and I have long arms and fingers! I would like to keep the sweater, but how do I style those l-o-n-g sleeves? Should I roll them up, turn up or under and tack at the seams, or put elastic at the cuffs? (My sweater is the moss green color, perfect for fall and for my coloring.) Thanks, Kay, you are a ray of sunshine on theses gloomy days.

    1. Hmm. I think that’s a little odd. I went back and checked mine and the sleeves are a little long but not exceptionally long. I think I might send it back for another. Maybe that one’s defective? Otherwise I’d probably roll the sleeves up. That’s quite acceptable these days.

  2. I bought the Madewell Harlow pants and styled them exactly like you did. I love them! It’s a new silhouette for me, and I feel more stylish.

  3. I purchased the Talbots trouser jeans, and liked them so much I bought another color. My sister and daughter in law bought them too, after seeing mine. They fit like a dream,
Very flattering in the seat, and wonderful soft denim.

  4. Good morning, Kay. I always look forward to these post and enjoy them!
I did want to mention the survey I received from Veronica Beard. I have a camel VB Dickey jacket and have thoroughly enjoyed it. When I received a survey to complete from VB, I was therefore happy to fill it out. The first question asked was my age. When I answered a truthful 66, I was immediately told my survey was over. In essence, they said “it was the quickest survey” I would probably ever receive. I was stunned. No polite “you are not the demographic we are looking for” or “maybe another time”. I felt their ageism loud and clear. Needless to say, they have lost my “old” business. I just thought you would want to know since your blog is all about embracing our age and stage of life.

    1. Huh, that’s strange. I did that survey and it went all the way through. Granted, I’m 59 and I don’t remember what the age categories. Quite interesting.

  5. Kay,
I would like to know whatt your skin undertone is since you wear both cool and warm colors.
They all look good on you.
Would you consider doing a blog post on undertones?
I also look forward each day to BFMD

  6. I enjoy this monthly post to see what resonated with Kay’s followers. I also find that just about every month I purchased one of two of these items. This month I purchased the Quince Fisherman’s sweater. The quality of that sweater is excellent and it is very well priced. I did not find the sleeves to be too long as someone else commented, but I did cuff them just a bit. I also bought the animal print jacket from Talbots…very cute with nice chocolate brown trim. I’m wearing it tomorrow for a girls lunch out. I have my eye on the Talbots Shetland blazer in berry…could be a nice holiday item.

  7. I am a long-time faithful 76 year old reader who still likes to keep up my appearance. I love your blog for suggestions and actual fashions to buy. But, after the summer is over I literally have to stop shopping because most everything is too warm for southern Florida where I live. I love the winter fashions but alas can’t wear them here. Even still too warm for jeans. I really miss the fashion possibilities for our climate.

  8. Good morning, Kay! Well, based upon fellow followers enthusiasm and your feedback, I just used your link & ordered 4 pr of the St Johns Bay jeans, 2 colors, 2 sizes each. They are on a big sale right now and I have been searching for a jean style from years ago that was JC Penney STYLUS. Still get compliments on that pair, but never found again! This fabric is different & not sure of sizing (it says runs big), so ????. Search is on. Our local Penneys has closed so ability to try-on is not available. Hope I luck out. Thanks for all you do and for the reader community’s input. We try to help each other.

  9. I finally figured out where to comment on your blog. I’ve been following you several years and never commented. I loved this post and all the really lovely items. I wish I lived in an area that I could enjoy and justify the cost of most of the jackets and sweaters, but alas in S Texas, we have summer and then more summer and teased a bit with fall and winter. But I certainly like your daily posts and especially Sunday.

  10. Hi Kay! I’m happy to say I purchased a few items from your links this month. I bought 2 pairs of the Tribeca pants from Talbots, black and camel. I love these pants so much. They are my go to pants when I want to look a little dressy. They are so well made, great quality and fit beautifully! I also purchased the VB Dickey jacket with my Nordstrom notes and a black cashmere Dickey to go with it. I haven’t received it yet, but I just know I will love it! Thank you Kay!

  11. I already had the straight leg ankle jeans from Talbots in a light wash, but I bought the Chico’s trouser jeans in dark. I’m so glad you posted them as they are great… not to wide and come in 3 or 4 denim colors including black. They look great with a shirt tucked and belted. I never would have found them on my own!

  12. Always love your devotional. I’m going to keep my eye on Talbot sales. I like the necklace. The earrings also are so classy. I have a similar camel coat. Today was like a winter day for us in Texas too. Yesterday was rainy too. Finally I get to wear fall and winter clothes and shoes. I’m so used to the same old things from summer that I don’t know what to wear now.

  13. Hey Kay! I know it’s late but I have a question for this weekend. I am going to my first women’s conference with my church group. What in the world would I wear. I’m usually very casual. Our Church is Casual also, but most of us don’t wear jeans. Could I wear dress pants and a blouse, sweater or top? Help!!

    1. Wonderful. I’d think maybe slacks and a sweater would be nice. Or if that’s too warm a blouse would work nicely. Have fun!

  14. I purchased the Talbots denim shirt in the lighter color and a silver hammered necklace in the same style as your gold one.

  15. Hi Kay, I purchased three of the Talbots perfect turtlenecks, camel, grey and burgundy. They quality is beautiful and they fit TTS. They really are perfect by themselves or layered with a jacket or vest.
