I can almost smell the smoke from the fire pit and taste the apple cider. Fall is officially here and cooler days are fast approaching. It’s time for laughing around an open fire with friends at the end of the day. Or maybe you enjoy visiting a vineyard and winery in the autumn, listening to live music while you enjoy the fruit of the vine. And it’s a great time for alfresco dining or even picnics in the park. So today I’m teaming up with Talbots and styling cords for favorite fall outings.

SALE ALERT: Good news! Just today (October 5, 2023) through Sunday, October 8, you’ll get 30% off your entire purchase at Talbots.

I have had an ongoing love affair with Talbots cords for years. I prefer their stretch corduroy straight leg pants, but they also have stretch corduroy jeggings, which look great worn with knee high boots. And this year Talbots introduced the stretch corduroy flare leg pants, and they’ve been selling fast! All three styles come in misses, petite and plus sizes, too.

I’m wearing the stretch corduroy straight leg pants in almond buff and I think they are the most perfect shade of camel brown. It will be so easy to incorporate these into my wardrobe for fall and winter. The stretch corduroy straight leg pants fit perfectly over the shaft of my Tish Chelsea boots. Mine are from several seasons ago, but Talbots has the same style this year with a nice updated taller shaft. These really are my favorite fall and winter everyday boots, perfect for outdoor activities but great for daily wear, too.

You absolutely can style your cords for favorite fall outings with sweaters and sweatshirts. Even a basic long-sleeve tee works nicely with these fall classics. But I especially enjoy wearing a denim shirt with cords. My denim button front shirt from Talbots is a real workhorse in my wardrobe in the fall. It fits true to size.

I had a belt to wear with this outfit, but I accidently left it in the car. Oops! This Havana tan leather belt would work so nicely. But really, wearing a belt is up to you. It’s quite alright to give your shirt a front tuck and leave the belt off like I did. I just think a pretty belt adds a little polish and interest to an outfit.

Oh, and check out this lovely crossbody saddle bag. It’s made from the softest pebbled leather and features a nice blanket stitch detail. The bag comes in a striking clementine orange, too.

This is definitely a favorite fall outfit for me. I’d wear this cords and denim shirt duo to an outdoor evening gathering with friends, a fall fair at a local school, lunch with a friend or even one of mine and James’ monthly getaways to small towns in Ohio. If it got cold, I’d add this fun animal print quilted barn jacket. Now that just sounds appropriate, doesn’t it?

By the way, Talbots cords come in so many great colors. You can easily create outfits with them from fall through winter. Which cords will you wear this year for favorite fall outings? The straight leg, jeggings or flare leg pants? So hard to decide! But they’re all 30% off right now.

Blessed for My Day

It’s not always easy to stick to your convictions. If you have a biblical worldview, undoubtedly you have had awkward moments in this current culture. Sometimes it can feel like you are swimming upstream while everyone around you is headed the opposite direction.

But do not be discouraged when you are out of step with the culture. Instead, stay the course. Cling to the truth. Trust God to give you the strength and the grace to live a godly life in this present age. And lean into Him when you face persecution because of your biblical choices.

“Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in this same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. ~ Matthew 5:11-12

  1. I am considering the navy flair leg in this corduroy pant. How do these fit? I’m in between sizes. If I get the right waist (or a little above), then the hip size is 2-3 inches too large. (I do not have a small enough waist to get curvy size.) The right hip size gives me a waist that’s 1/2 inch too small. Is there any “wiggle room” in the waist?
Just thought I’d ask, since I know you have a lot of pants from Talbots.
Thanks Kay. Enjoy your family visiting.

    1. I actually have not tried on the flare pant’s unfortunately. But if they are like the straights they probably do not have a lot of wiggle in the waistband. There is stretch in the fabric some. But I would suggest getting the fit you need for the waist and then have them altered to fit in the hips.

  2. I love the outfit you have on today. I’ve always loved corduroy. I just wanted to say thank you so much for your blog! I really look forward to reading it every day. I also wanted to say that I absolutely love your hair! It is beautiful and really suits you,

  3. Kay, I tried the straight leg jeans from Talbots on your recommendation. I’ve bought them on repeat. Do you wear the same size in the cords as you do in the jeans? Also, how thick are they?

    1. No, I actually size up to a 10 in the cords and wear an 8 in the jeans. That’s what I’ve been wearing in them for the last several years now and they’ve stayed pretty consistent. They are a nice thickness. I wouldn’t say they are thick, but they are not thin either.

  4. I too like Talbots cords. I bought two pairs last year. One in off white and one in red. I think I would like to try their cord jeggings. I too think these cords that you are wearing would look better with a belt. I think a belt gives a polished look. Have great time visiting James family.

  5. Great post on cords! I love cords, but for some reason no longer had any in my closet. I used your link to order two pairs of the straight legs, camel and grey. I appreciated seeing them on you because on the website they looked a little narrow at the hem, but on you they fell beautifully over your boots. Thank you Kay!
