As cooler temperatures begin to prevail in the coming days, we’ll want to put together stylish outfits that also feel comfortable. This is a great time to complete your fall outfits with a comfortable, on trend jacket. I’m sharing my five favorite trending jackets for the season today. See if you need to add one or two of these to your wardrobe for fall. I’ve gathered options in a full range of styles and price points for you to consider.

Remember, adding a jacket to your outfit isn’t just about warmth. You want to have a few great jackets on hand that will ADD style to your outfit, not detract from it. Here are five options that work for my real lifestyle.
Denim Jacket
I’m a big believer in the power of the mighty denim jacket. It’s my default if I don’t know what else to wear. You can wear a denim jacket with anything from a pair of on trend track pants (30% off right now!) to your most polished trousers.

Right now non-traditional denim jackets are definitely trending, but I still love my trucker style jackets. I have the Levi’s trucker jacket and wear it frequently. But I really like my more fitted L’Agence Janelle denim jackets for a more polished look. I size up to a large in those.
Barn Jackets

For the second year, barn jackets are hot, hot, hot. Last year when I learned they were on trend I quickly ordered the L.L.Bean Adirondack barn coat I’d actually been eyeing for years. This trending jacket is nothing new to this All-American brand, so they have the design down beautifully. It also comes in a versatile dark khaki (that I’m SO tempted to buy), and the jacket runs true to size for a roomy fit so you can accommodate layers as I’ve done below.

But I also recently got in from Talbots this quilted barn jacket in port wine with brown corduroy trim. It has a slimmer fit, but still runs true to size. You might want to size up if you want to layer thicker things underneath. It comes in other colors, too, and is 30-40% off right now with code THANKYOU, depending on how many items you order. Below you’ll find additional barn jacket options in a full range of prices.
Blazers
Other jackets may trend, but I continue to be a blazer gal through and through. You just can’t beat a lapeled jacket for effortlessly elevating your outfit.

Looser fitting, slightly boxy blazers, like the Madewell cardigan blazer shown above, continue to trend, but you’ll also look modern and stylish in a more fitted blazer, like the J.Crew Madelyn blazer in four season stretch fabric shown below. That blazer runs a little large and I sized down to an 8. It also comes in a nice grey, navy, black and French press brown.

When shopping for a blazer consider how you plan to layer it. If you want to wear multiple layers underneath, you may need to size up. But I generally wear a fairly thin layer under my blazers. And yes, shoulder pads are in style right now, but not necessarily the huge ones we wore in the 80s. And no, your jacket does not have to button perfectly in the front unless you really plan to wear it that way. Otherwise, just look for a blazer that looks like you could button it. Know what I mean? Finally, make sure your blazer fits nicely in the shoulders. That’s the one area a tailor generally doesn’t want to mess with. They can shorten sleeves and take a tuck at the waist, if needed.
Trench Coats
The mighty trench coat continues to trend in 2025, and I’m so glad. I’ve come to love wearing a classic trench coat for a polished and pulled together look you just can’t get with any other completer piece.

A trench coat is a great completer piece for workwear, especially if you don’t prefer to wear a blazer. And it’s also a nice topper for a dress. And by the way, a mac, as shown above, is a similar option but without the tie or belt. They both accomplish the same style goals, so choose that silhouette and style that best suits your personal style and lifestyle.

Right now non-traditional trench coats are very on trend. You’ll find all sorts of souped up options as well as colors and prints. And you can get long to short trench coats, too. I suggest investing in a more traditional coat first, one that you can confidently wear for years without ever replacing it. But if you’re looking for a statement jacket to complete your fall outfits, a non-traditional trench could be a fun addition to your wardrobe.

And you don’t have to wear a trench or mac just with dressier outfits. It’s very on trend right now to wear this classic with casual outfits like the one above, too. That photo is from last year and the jacket is no longer available (but it’s the one I continue to wear for the third year at least). But I’ve gathered so many other great options in the shopping widget below.
Suede Jackets
Ooh! Here’s another favorite category. This year, for the second year, suede is trending big. I love it! Of course suede jackets are quite the investment. The beautiful and lush beige suede jacket below was gifted to me by L.Cuppini. (They have beautiful fur coats, too!) This sporty suede jacket fits true to their size guide.

But last year I did invest in a gorgeous suede blazer from Veronica Beard (shown below) and I cannot wait to wear it again this year (and the next and the next!). Of course this jacket sold out quickly, but you’ll find so many more similar options this season. I’ve found that they do go fast because brands generally create smaller batches.

A genuine suede jacket is definitely a pricey investment, but one you can keep in your closet forever if you choose a classic silhouette. That said, I’ve included some amazing faux suede options in the shopping widget below. And I even added a corduroy jacket or two because they can give you the same vibe.
Bonus: Stylish Windbreakers
Finally, let’s not neglect the practical jacket you’ll want at the ready this fall. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in the super stylish trending jackets that I forget to have a basic but sporty windbreaker in my closet.

I think we all need at least one jacket in our fall wardrobe that is perfect for standing on the sidelines at a grandchild’s soccer game, going for a walk with friends or just running a quick errand. It makes sense to look for a stylish windbreaker that works nicely with your activewear and makes you feel fabulous while also keeping the chill off. Right now you can take 30% off everything during the Friends & Family Event at Athleta, so it’s a good time to check out their selections (and all of their activewear and travel styles). But I’ve gathered so many other windbreakers in the shopping widget below for you, too.

Blessed for My Day
Have you ever panicked because it felt like things were caving in on you? I think we’ve all experienced those moments or even seasons when uncertainty prevails and doom seems to lie ahead. It’s only human to panic a little in those tenuous times, but we don’t have to face them alone. In fact, we can regain our confidence and walk through them with boldness.
Today in my Bible reading I read about the nasty threats from Sennacherib, king of Assyria, that shook Hezekiah to the core. He undoubtedly felt like a sitting duck at the mercy of this powerful and cruel king. But rather than panic, he took “the letter from the hand of the messengers” and “spread it before the Lord.” He prayed to God, expressing his fears and begging for mercy. Of course, God responded by preserving His people. But He also assured Hezekiah of His faithfulness. Dear friend, take your concerns to the Lord and lay them there. Leave them to Him, and allow God to fight your battles. He’s got this. More importantly, He’s got you.
Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord, and spread it before the Lord. And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord: “O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made the heavens and the earth. Incline your ear, O Lord, and hear; open your eyes, O Lord, and see; and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to mock the living God. Truly, O Lord, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations and their lands, and have cast their gods into the fire. For they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone. Therefore they were destroyed. So now, O Lord our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone are the Lord.” ~ Isaiah 37:14-20
Kay, So glad your surgery went well and you have that behind you. I have fall/winter clothing envy! Because I live in South Florida, I don’t need fall or winter clothing. I do like to admire your choices for these two seasons. I jump for joy when there’s a sweater day here.
Ah, yes. I didn’t need much of a winter wardrobe when I lived on the Gulf Coast in Texas either. I know that envy well! Enjoy the warm weather!
