How I Really Dressed for My Day This Week

Happy Friday from Georgia, where it is hot, hot, hot! I’m still visiting with family this week. I had so much work to do before I left home last week, that I really didn’t do a great job of packing. And when I packed the forecast was for a little cooler temperatures. So when I show you how I really dressed for my day this week you’ll notice that ended up repeating a lot of outfits. That’s fine by me because I just don’t mind wearing something again if I love it. Let’s check out my daily outfits for the past week, and I’ll share a little of what I’ve been doing, too.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

I like to focus on why I wore what I wore and how I put my looks together in these weekly posts. So I may not call out each item shown. You’ll find links to anything that is available in the captions under the photos. I’ll also share fit information there IF the garment doesn’t fit true to size (TTS). I try to be transparent about gifting; gifted items are indicated with a C/O beside them, meaning they were given to me “courtesy of” that brand. Finally, I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds, so I normally wear a misses 10. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape.

What I Wore for Mom’s Birthday Friday

Friday was my mom’s 90th birthday. She and I started off the big day by attending her thrice weekly exercise class at her church. I was quite impressed with the workout. After the workout we grabbed a quick breakfast, she got her hair done and then Mom, Dad and I saw a matinee showing of the new Downton Abbey movie.

After the movie we joined my brother and sister-in-law for pizza and cake. I gave my mom the high rise pants she’s wearing above along with a few other things from Athleta for her birthday. She can wear all of them for workouts as well as travel and just daily life. If you have an Athleta card, you can sign into your account, use the card and get 30% off everything with code CARD30.

What I Wore for Mimi Duty and Birthday Party

Saturday we had a family dinner at my aunt’s in honor of my mom’s birthday. But I also got my granddaughter for the day since her parents had gone to Birmingham for the weekend. We had a blast!

dress // sandals (use code KAY10 for 10% off) // bracelet // necklace // earrings

I felt comfortable and suitably dressed for the day in my T by Talbots dress and sandals (use code KAY10 for 10% off). But I tell you what! After my granddaughter’s parents had picked her up that evening I was desperate for a shower and bed. Hahaha!

What I Wore to Church and Lunch Sunday

Sunday morning I attended worship service and Sunday School with my parents. They still attend my home church, so it’s always nice to go back.

dress // slingback heels // earrings // necklace // bracelet // purse

I LOVED wearing this cotton poplin zip-up shirtdress in dark capers green. I did size down to a size 8 in this dress for a comfortable fit. I thought the leopard print slingback heels were a nice touch, but you could also wear nude or cognac shoes.

What I Wore to Visit with My Assistant Lucy

Monday morning Abigail and my granddaughter picked me up from my parents’ and we journeyed about an hour away to visit with my assistant Lucy, her mom and her baby boy. Lucy and I communicate most every day and have a virtual meeting twice weekly. But it’s always so nice to get to touch base in person.

similar short sleeve sweater // pants // sandals // earrings // necklace // bracelet

We visited at her beautiful home for a bit and then had lunch at a cute little deli. It was starting to warm up on this day, but I still felt perfectly comfortable dining alfresco in this cashmere tee and Tencel drawstring pants.

What I Wore to a Mommy and Me Music Class

On Tuesday morning we got in a quick walk and then headed to my granddaughter’s Mommy & Me music class. It was just so much fun.

short sleeve cardigan // cargo pants (similar option with availability) // necklace // earrings // sneakers

I wore comfortable Eileen Fisher cargo pants that were perfect for getting up and down from the floor during the 45 minute class. I topped them with a chic, bold pink short sleeve cardigan and finished the outfit with my gold (mineral metallic) sneakers.

What I Wore Wednesday and Thursday

Yes, it’s true. I actually wore this outfit Wednesday and Thursday. Ha! I had forgotten to snap an OOTD photo after my coffee date with a dear friend on Wednesday, so I’d put the outfit back on Thursday morning just to get the photo. But before I knew it we were needing to hurry out the door to meet my parents for lunch, so I ended up just keeping this on.

white button down // jeans // belt // mules // purse // necklace // earrings

AND you may recall seeing me in this same white button down shirt with pre-styled scrunched sleeves in the Friday photo. I really wish I had packed the Oxford stripe one I have, too. These 65% Polyester/35% Cotton shirts are silky soft and so comfortable. Since it’s been so hot, I just really haven’t minded wearing this one several times. And the Frame jeans were definitely the right choice to pack because this ankle length straight leg jean goes with so many shoe types. I’m wearing true to size 30 in the jeans and a large in the shirt for a more oversized fit.

Thanks so much for dropping in for a little style inspiration. Here’s to a fantastic weekend!

Blessed for My Day

Naturally we’re a pretty selfish bunch, huh? Even if we’re generous with our blessings – sharing them gladly with those in need – most of us are prone to think of our own comfort first. That’s just the natural state of sinful humankind.

But when we ask Jesus into our hearts, we’re called to rise to a higher level. We are to grow in Christlikeness and demonstrate His character to others. That means we are to put others first and ourselves second. Some will balk at that notion, saying we should always look out for ourselves…because who else will? But the Bible assures us that we can give generously and live humbly because God is our provider, defender, redeemer and friend.

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. ~ Philippians 2:3-4

xoxo, Kay

  1. The outfits you wore this week are so cute and appropriate. Your mom looked nice in her outfit too. I noticed her toenails are polished also! Still keeping up looking good at 90! I’m glad you have had a great week visiting your family..

  2. You look so relaxed even as you work! As always, your style is inspiring and I especially enjoyed seeing “vacation” style ideas. Happy belated birthday to your Mom. May she treasure the coming year.

  3. Belated Happy Birthday to your mom. She looks so cute in her Athleta wear. Love your outfits! Glad you had a nice visit home even though it’s still hot weather here!

  4. You and your mom look adorable Kay! Loved every vacation outfit you packed! I always tend to overpack because I’m not that good at thinking ahead packing. Still learning from your posts!
But my favorite is the T from Talbots dress. It looks great on you and looks oh so comfortable!

  5. Your trip sounds so fun with family and your outfit choices so cute. Your mom looks so cute and I can’t believe she’s 90. That is so great she still goes to an exercise class and wears Athlete wear. So cute. You are fortunate to have both your parents still with you. My dad fell off a ladder when he was 63 yrs. old and my mom is in memory care and somedays I’m not even sure she knows who I am. Its been tough, but God is good even in the hard times. I’m glad my dad has been able to be with his Lord all these years and I know mom will be joining him soon.(she is almost 87) Have a great rest of your trip with James now there too.

  6. Love your blogs! So honest and real!

  9. I’m reading this late. Like I said yesterday in the email your mother looks awesome for 90. She doesn’t look her age at all. You’re blessed to have her. I like all the outfits including hers.
