Are you excited to wear brown this fall? Truly, I’ve fallen head over heels for this deep, rich hue that is already popping up everywhere. But I think most of us are much more accustomed to styling navy, black or even grey than we are dark chocolate brown. So today I thought we’d run through just a few of the ways to wear trending brown this fall…just to spark our creativity and set us on the right track.

Turquoise + Brown
The early days of fall (and the final days of summer) are a great time to pair shades of turquoise with rich chocolate brown.

Unfortunately my high rise trousers from Athleta are not showing up on their website in this truffle brown. I’m wondering if they will be on there after Labor Day? They have them in other colors, but just not this one. What a bummer! But Athleta does have their Endless high rise pants in the same color, and I absolutely love those pants, especially for travel.

I’ve topped the high rise trousers with a brown and white striped tee and a pretty turquoise jacket for a casual day. By the way, those casual trousers do run a tad large, but I think that’s by design. I’m wearing my usual size 10 for a comfortable and slightly roomy fit. And I’m wearing a medium in the tee and jacket.

Another trend you’re sure to notice (if you haven’t already) is the popularity of brown sneakers. I decided to go with creamy white sneakers with brown trim instead, but you will find so many options in this chocolate hue. I picked these up in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale for a fraction of the price. They’re super comfortable and run true to size.

My trending brown and turquoise outfit is decidedly casual, perfect for a day of travel or running errands. But you can create more elevated looks with this color combination as well. Will you wear trending brown with turquoise this fall? I’d love to hear your ideas.
Cornflower Blue + Brown

This year I’m already seeing a lot of this bright, beautiful cornflower blue in stores. I think it’s the perfect hue to balance out the moody darkness of other trending colors in your wardrobe. But it pairs especially nicely with brown.

Tuesday I actually wore this outfit for a day out and about. While we had our AC unit replaced, I worked from a coffee shop and then had a couple of appointments and ended up at the mall. I got so many compliments on this cheerful brown and blue combination.

Although the mediums fit, I sized up to a large in this closing fitting cornflower blue jacket and ribbed tee. This is another great travel outfit. In fact, I’ll undoubtedly wear it when I travel to or from Georgia next month.
Leopard Print + Brown
Leopard print continues to trend this year even though other exotic prints are moving into the picture, too. I love pairing this classic print with all shades of brown.

I got my brown wide leg drawstring pants in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale at a much better price. They are so comfortable and fun to wear. But I’ve collected so many beautiful brown options for you to peruse in a shopping widget below.

Add brown shoes and a brown bag for a tonal look with your leopard print and brown outfit.

Do you plan to pair leopard print with brown this season? You could also add a pop of red or another color into the mix.
Black + Brown
An unexpected combination that will give you beautiful results this fall is black and brown.

The key to pairing trending brown with black is to wear at least two pieces in each of these neutrals. That way your combination looks intentional, not accidental.
Grey + Brown
Grey paired with trending brown creates a rich look that is simultaneously striking and easy on the eyes.

Again, the key is to wear at least two pieces in your outfit that are grey and two that are brown. If you add another color make sure it looks bold and intentional, like a pop of turquoise or red.
Red + Brown
Speaking of red, who can resist pairing red with trending brown? Whether you wear a warmer red or a cool one, you can wear it with the brown of your choice.

Which combination do you like the most? Or can you even pick? There are so many options for styling this trending color for fall. I’ve gathered so many beautiful brown options in a shopping widget below. (Be sure to toggle through the shopping widget. It contains over 40 items!) Blessed for My Day
Have you prayed for wisdom and sought to gain understanding from the Lord? That’s a good thing. Right? We definitely want to be wise women. But it’s important to remember that wisdom, when it’s broken down, is simply God’s perspective on life. To be wise is to see ourselves, other people, the Bible, and the world from God’s vantage point. It’s not just knowledge of these things, but godly perspective combined with God’s heart. Apart from God, any wisdom we gain just turns to useless knowledge that can puff us up.
When we look at the things going on in our world sometimes it is hard to feel loving or compassionate in certain situations. We may feel like we see things so clearly and others do not. Those feelings can lead to anger and resentment, disdain and even contempt. That’s when we must run back to the Lord and ask Him to give us a heart like His. It’s not enough to see things from God’s perspective. We must also have His heart. That balance can be so tricky…because we’re not God. But God sent Jesus to give us a beautiful picture of “grace and truth.” The more we get to know Him and become like Him, the more we will see our world with true godly wisdom.
For in much wisdom is much vexation,
and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow. ~ Ecclesiastes 1:18
So glad you included all those colors with brown. I also bought brown at the anniversary sale. Brown isn’t usually my favorite, but it is such a nice change from black, navy and gray. My coloring is similar to yours. We could live in cornflower blue and aqua!😁
Nice combinations Kay, and a thoughtful BFMD. Thank you.
Great Athletica outfit for a grandkids day. I like that I will be able to run around a playground and look up to date in my appearance. I would love more outfits like this.
I love brown and red together, but I don’t own pieces in either color in any meaningful amount.
I have worn chocolate brown as my primary neutral for 30 years, and I will wear it long after this trend is over. It is my “black” (I do not wear black, as it is unflattering on me.) Needless to say, I pair chocolate brown with everything! Turquoise, yes. Warm gray, yes. Brick red, yes. Basically, with any warm toned color, yes. Leopard, yes, with that too. In fact today I paired my chocolate brown top with a deep teal blue and rosewood pink floral skirt. I don’t really have a favorite combination, I love it all! I made a list from your other post of those fall color combinations you suggested. Those will be upcoming outfits for work. I made sure chocolate brown is in all of them. 🙂
I love brown – works well with my colouring. Camel is another favourite and the 2 work well together. I also like a touch of animal print. Mixing with red is a great suggestion and will work with it.
As a Christian I especially understand what wisdom is – looking at things from God’s perspective and not mine. A great challenge!
Great ideas and suggestions to wear with brown. Loved this and the BFMD!
Thank you for all of your hard work
Thanks Kay! I also invisioned brown and baby blue and brown and pink combos. I don’t have any chocolate brown but a lot of “mushroom” brown. Any future boards planned for this color?
I’ve been wearing blue and brown together for years!
I like these color combinations. I do wear brown in the fall and winter and this gives me some ideas on colors to pair it with. I like your new haircut! In yesterday’s video you mentioned how sometimes people make remarks if someone dresses up. I used to have that issue when I was working. I felt maybe it was some jealousy on their part but I quit dressing up so much because it made me feel unsure of myself and embarrassed.
I am planning to add a chocolate suede crescent purse to my fall wardrobe. I’ve been looking for a cornflower blue top to wear with orange pants but now realize I can also wear it with a brown bottom that I already have. Realize I may do a fall, travel, wardrobe in chocolate, orange, and blues.
I would love to see a Wednesday video with ALL of your style hacks in one place .I am still trying to find that style hack on how to try a shirt so that it lays flat as well as some some of the ways you
tie your belts. Your time is appreciated.
Love the teal and bright blue with brown. I loved wearing brown when I had brown hair with highlights but after going completely gray (actually white) I don’t feel I can wear brown next to my face. However you look really good in the brown color. Is it all related to skin tone perhaps?
I think a color analyst would tell us that the colors we look best in are determined by a combination of our skin coloring and undertones, our hair and our eyes. As we age all three of those things change. But I wouldn’t rule something out just because of change in one of those. I’ve learned you really have to try colors to know if they work or not.
Hi Kay, great ideas for incorporating brown. I noticed you kept the brown on the bottom. Is that because it is not one of your flattering colors? I feel I look washed out with brown on top. Just an observation. And the blue always looks stunning on you!
Actually I just wore the brown on the bottom because I have brown pants. Lol! Brown isn’t necessarily one of my ideal colors, but I still wear it up top occasionally. However, yes, if you like a color but don’t feel your best in it wearing it away from the face is a good way to go.
I like the leopard sweater and brown pants outfit. Also I love your hair. That’s my goal to have your hairstyle when my pixie finally grows out. The process is painful but headbands help. I never could wear my hair straight unless my stylist did it. The BFMD spoke to me.
Beautful picture of your moms 90th
Feel better with that darn headache. They are sooo bad. Mom used to say “ time to throw the towel in! Take care of yourself Kay! You are a super achiever and we want you healthy and happy!
