November 1, 2024

Happy November! To be one of the longest months, October always seems to fly by. I think that’s because I look forward to October like a child anticipates Christmas morning. It is my absolutely favorite month of the year and I always savor every orange leaf, every whiff of pumpkin spice and every cool, brisk breeze with joy. I hate to see it go! So today let’s check out a few of our favorite things here at DFMD from the month of October. These are the top sellers as well as a few things I personally enjoyed.

A Few of Your Favorite Things 2024

First up, I had my assistant Lucy run the analytics to discover what resonated most with you. These are the top sellers across all of my platforms, from here at the blog to my YouTube channel to Instagram and Facebook.

No I have no way of knowing exactly what any person purchased at Dressed for My Day. In fact, all we really know is that people clicked through these links and then made a purchase. But the numbers don’t lie! These were definitely some of your favorite things.

Cashmere V-Neck Sweater

This is the time of year to stock up on a pretty cashmere sweater or two. And as you’ll see from the first few items in our list, a lot of my followers did just that.

Add Jewelry that Is Polished and Understated

This v-neck cashmere sweater is one of my favorites because I love the open neckline and the color is so on trend. It fits true to size. It’s 25% off for a limited time.

Quince Cotton Fisherman Sweater

Our second top selling cashmere sweater is a fisherman crewneck, another one of my favorites. And this pretty chocolate brown from Quince is just lovely.

Quince has great prices on cashmere, and the quality is top notch.

Cashmere Turtleneck Sweater

And for yet a third cashmere sweater, we have a turtleneck. This

This Nordstrom cashmere turtleneck fits true to size for a roomy fit; I’m wearing a medium. I love the taupe color with the navy stripe. But it is available in other pretty shades as well. Oh! And right now it is 25% off for a limited time.

Stowe Puffer Jacket by J.Crew

I think this Stowe puffer jacket is going to be just right for the fairly moderate winters we have in Cincinnati. I hope it’s going to work well for those of you who purchased it, too. I think it is such a great style to keep you warm but still look chic and a little sophisticated.

How to Look Polished and Put Together This Fall

The jacket runs true to size for a pleasantly oversized fit, perfect for layering underneath. I’m wearing a medium. I have the black, but it’s also available in navy, olive green and a really pretty light khaki that I am so tempted to order. Right now, for a limited time, this coat is marked down to 46% off.

Long-Sleeve Polo Sweater

Here’s another J.Crew favorite. This long-sleeve polo sweater is actually going with me to Georgia, not that I expect to wear it. (We’re predicted to have quite the warm weather while I’m there!)

Corduroy Pants with Sweater
sweater

I especially like the cropped length of this sweater. It works perfectly with high rise pants. It’s also available in a pretty lavender, which I have, a bright green and blue. And the sweater is marked down and you get an extra 50% off with code SHOPSALE.

Stretch Corduroy Relaxed Straight Leg Pants

I’m so glad that many of you purchased the stretch corduroy relaxed straight leg pants from Talbots. Not only is Talbots my favorite source for corduroy, but this silhouette is so modern and easy to work with.

I love the rich burgundy I have here, but they do come in other colors and a wide range of sizes. The pants fit true to size; I’m wearing a 10. Right now you can buy one get one 50% off at Talbots.

Suede Ankle Boots

Speaking of Talbots, their suede ankle boots are your next favorite thing from October. I get it! I love mine, too.

I’ve been wearing Talbots ankle boots for years, and I think they fit and wear just great. These brown suede are a nice addition to your wardrobe because brown is so on trend for the fall and winter.

High Waist Relaxed Leg Jeans

You also purchased a lot of the Talbots high waist relaxed leg jeans. These will work great for this fall and winter, fitting perfectly over those boots!

I find these jeans to run true to size; I wear a misses 10. They are also available in petite, plus and plus petite sizes.

Texture Tweed Mockneck Sweater

And our number one top seller this month was the texture tweed mockneck sweater from Talbots. You can easily wear this cotton blend sweater alone or over a shirt or tee. It fits true to size.

The textured sweater also comes in several other shades. And remember, you can buy one get one 50% off at Talbots right now.

Kay’s Favorite Things

Now let me share with you a few of the things I’ve been wearing on repeat and loving in October.

Light Cotton Nylon Stand Collar Jacket

I wore my Eileen Fisher cotton nylon stand collar jacket on my trip to New York, and it was just perfect. It’s fairly light weight, but I layered under it and really liked the versatility it offered me.

The jacket is actually marked down considerably in this pretty azalea. Like most Eileen Fisher, it runs large; I’m wearing a small very comfortably. I also have the jacket in reed and wore it on my trip, too. I actually love both equally.

New York Travel Set by Frank & Eileen

I wore my New York travel set from Frank & Eileen on both my Wisconsin trip in late September and my New York venture in October. I think I’ve decided it’s my favorite of all their travel sets.

New York travel set // sneakers // tee // necklace // tote

I like the fact that I can wear the top buttoned and alone or open over a tee or tank. And then I frequently wear the joggers with a button-up shirt, too. This one went with me to Georgia, too.

ME+EM Cotton Silk Fabric Shirt

I know most of my favorites are pretty pricey. I thought about sharing only less expensive things. But these truly are the pieces I’m wearing over and over in my personal wardrobe. I’ve already worn this Me+Em cotton silk shirt once this week and I’ve packed it in my suitcase, too.

Make Your Wardrobe Enjoyable

This is a lovely lightweight shirt that will perfectly for the predicted weather in Georgia. In fact, I find myself leaning into button-front shirts more and more these days. This one is super soft and fits true to size; I’m wearing a 10 for a slightly oversized fit.

Ana Luisa Paperclip Necklace

I’m wearing this Ana Luisa paperclip necklace as I travel today. I’ve been wearing my Lagos jewelry so much for travel lately. But I decided to switch things up a bit this trip and wear my Ana Luisa pieces.

necklace

This Aspen necklace is just the right size to be noticeable and effective, but still feel light and effortless. I’m discovering that Ana Luisa jewelry really is high quality jewelry sold at an affordable price. And while it is available at fine retailers like Nordstrom, you’ll always get the best price at Ana Luisa. It’s all tarnish-proof and highly tested for endurance, so I feel good wearing it for everyday.

Italian Leather Slouchy Sling Crossbody

I ordered the Italian leather slouchy sling crossbody from Quince to check out the quality for myself. I was suitably impressed. This leather bag is every bit as luxurious as much higher priced designer bags.

I love the taupe color, but it’s also available in a pretty cognac. It’s just the right size to hold my essentials plus a few.

Veronica Beard Suede Dickey Jacket

I’d just be lying if I didn’t say that this Veronica Beard suede dickey jacket was my absolute favorite purchase this month. Wow! Now this is a jacket I will definitely have in my closet for the rest of my life…and then I’ll pass it on to my daughter.

suede dickey jacket

Yes, this was a major investment. But let me assure you that the quality of the suede and the construction is perfection. I wore this jacket in New York, and I have a blog post coming up next week featuring it. Suede is so on trend this year. I’ll be linking to other options in that post, too. But this jacket is my number one October favorite.

Barn Jacket

That said, I have another favorite jacket from October, too. I love my new L.L.Bean Adirondack barn jacket.

Adirondack Barn Coat

As I shared in this earlier blog post, barn jackets are so on trend right now. I’ve wanted one of these classic coats for years, and I can’t wait to show you more ways to wear this one.

The Secret Sauce Jeans by AYR

The photo below is old, from last April. But it occurred to me that I never seem to wear my Ayr jeans in blog posts, but I wear them frequently in real life. Ha! In fact, I wear these super soft the Secret Sauce jeans from Ayr probably once a week! How is it that I neglect to show them more???

jeans

I’ve had these jeans for about a year now, so I’m going to keep looking. Maybe I have featured them somewhere??? But since the weather has cooled, I’ve been wearing them a lot again. And I just thought you should know. They are definite favorites. I wear a 31 in these.

Down Puffer Hooded Jacket

Finally, I wore this down puffer hooded jacket so much in New York. So I had to include it in my October favorites. I love that it truly is packable, but it’s also warm and gets the job done.

hooded puffer jacket

That hood and the zipper pockets really came in handy while hiking through gorges in New York. I can highly recommend this super jacket.

Thanks so much for stopping in today. Let me know if you purchased any of these DFMD favorites and what you thought. I always love hearing from you.

Blessed for My Day

Do you believe God can answer your prayer, meet your need? Do you really believe it? I assure you, God is “able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think.” He is an amazing God, good and generous and mighty. You are not without resource, not without hope.

Whatever weighs heavy on your heart today, take it to God. And then leave it there. Trust that He is able and He is willing to meet your need.

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen. ~ Ephesians 3:20-21

  1. Hi dear Kay, I wish you a wonderful week-end in Georgia!! Does your assistant live in Cincinnati or in Georgia? About the wardrobe, i love your suede jacket. XOXO from France, Soutwest with a lot of sun.

    1. Thanks so much. My assistant lives in Georgia. Thats the beauty of the Internet for ya! She, like me, works from home.

  2. I can’t tell you how helpful your content is to me. I am having trouble picturing joggers with a button down. It seems like 2 different categories. I really want to buy some suede but worry about it getting damaged. Especially shoes with winter muck.

  3. Morning Kay. Have a great trip to Georgia to see the grandbaby and rest of the family as well. I purchased the tweed mock neck sweater in the cream. Will be able to wear it with so many things. I pulled the trigger on the barn jacket from L.L.Bean yesterday. I have wanted a barn jacket for years also and I loved that it was flannel lined and the loden color. I have never purchased anything from L.L.Bean before but I am sure I will love it. Loved the BFMD. Have a blessed trip.

  4. Hi Kay! Re the Secret Sauce jeans you’re wearing, which color are yours? The link goes to the color “Good Mood” and seems lighter than yours. I ask because the fabric content is different depending on which color you order. Enjoy wearing your suede jacket. It’s gorgeous!

    1. My jeans are actually in Brunch Plans , a wash that isn’t currently offered. But the fabric content was the same as the Good Mood.
