My bet is that many of us are through shopping for fall. We may still be looking for a few warm winter sweaters, that perfect coat or two and a pair of knee high boots. But many of have a closet ready to create fabulous fall outfits. And that’s where we sometimes get stuck. So today I’m sharing inspiration boards with easy fall outfit formulas you can work with the items in your fall wardrobe.

Of course, as usual, if you see something that strikes your fancy, these style boards are shoppable. Just click on the word in the caption of the style board and you’ll be transported straight to the retail website where you can learn more about the product and shop it. I do earn a small commission from any purchases made through these affiliate links, but at no cost to you. Thanks so much for supporting my small business by shopping my links.

Fall Outfit Formula #1

If you’re in a region of the world that is indeed getting cool, you may be ready for my favorite fall outfit formula of all: a great pair of jeans, a pretty pullover sweater and some stylish booties.

sweater // jeans // belt // bucket bag // booties // eyeshadow // earrings

By the way, I handpicked each item featured in these style boards. I don’t have all of these, of course. And I haven’t even tried on many of them. But I’m familiar enough with these brands that I feel confident recommending them.

But the focus here is on the outfit formulas. Remember, don’t just wear a sweater and jeans; style them! You might give that sweater a little front tuck and add a belt. Or you could push up the sleeves a bit or wear a white long sleeve tee underneath. Add some jewelry and a coordinating bag.

Fall Outfit Formula #2

The second fall outfit formula is similar to the one I’m wearing in our header graphic. Knit vests are trending again this year, and I love them worn over a classic but relaxed button-up shirt with jeans.

relaxed button up // v-neck sweater vest // jeans // loafers // purse // necklace // earrings // Tory Burch parfum

Because this particular sweater vest is a little long, I paired it with very slim fit jeans and loafers. I love that look! But if you have a shorter vest like mine, you can wear it with fuller silhouette jeans or pants. Such a fun fall outfit!

Fall Outfit Formula #3

The number three fall outfit formula starts with a great pair of pants. This year wide leg trousers are definitely on trend, but they can also be a little more difficult to style, especially with a pullover sweater. Generally you want to wear those with a closer fitting top or tucked in button-up shirt. But if you’re styling more slim fit dress slacks, you want your top to be a little fuller in proportion.

cashmere sweater // jacket // stretch ponte pants // heels // necklace // earrings

Thus I love these stretch ponte pants with a cashmere pullover sweater and jacket. You could complete this look with other types of jackets, but this upgraded bomber jacket is very current and has a nice silhouette to complete this look. I added wine colored Mary Jane slingbacks to bookend the outfit.

Fall Outfit Formula #4

Let’s not forget about a great sweater dress for fall. This one is fairly light and features short sleeves, so I thought a jacket was in order. I think this black lady jacket would compliment the great sweater dress nicely.

wool blend sweater dress // tweed jacket // tote bag // pointed toe slingback // lipstick // bracelet // earrings // reading glasses // eyeshadow

I really meant to add the tote bag in chili pepper here, but the black works nicely, too. Add a splash of color with those chili pepper reading glasses instead!

Fall Outfit Formula #5

Here’s another sweater and jeans outfit formula, but this time I’m working it with an on-trend lady jacket sweater. Isn’t that deep red pretty? And it will work nicely with black or dark wash jeans for a very elevated look.

cardigan sweater // denim trousers // booties // leather tote // earrings // bracelet // lipstick

I featured my Estee Lauder lipstick in Rebellious Rose because they tell me it is a neutral rose that looks great on most every skin tone. I find that it works well with most everything in my fall wardrobe, from wine to red to pink to brown.

Fall Outfit Formula #6

And my final look is another favorite formula. I love doubling up in one color up top. So make sure you have a sweater that matches your favorite coats or jackets. They don’t have to be the exact same color, mind you. Just close enough.

wool blend coat // rollneck sweater // jeans // mary jane flats // leather crossbody bag // earrings

I completed this formula with leopard print Mary Janes. They are so on trend right now – both Mary Janes and leopard print! And I think the brown bag serves as a nice contrast to the camel sweater and coat, but those leopard print flats tie the shades together. These are ankle length straight leg jeans, by the way. I’m wearing mine a lot this fall while the days are still fairly warm.

I’ve gather most of the items shown above in the shopping widget below. If you click through I think you’ll find that many of them are marked down right now or they’re very reasonably priced to begin with. I hope you’ve enjoyed these fall outfit inspiration boards. Thanks so much for stopping in!

Blessed for My Day

I’m amazed by the grace of God. I know me. I know my past. I know my lowest of lows. And I’m so grateful you don’t! Ha! But God does, and He still loves me enough to send His only and perfect Son to die for me. That’s grace. That’s amazing.

But sometimes I forget that God also shows that same amazing grace to other people, too. Sometimes I expect people to jump through my hoops, meet my standards and apologize when they don’t. I neglect to give others the same grace God has lavished on me. But indeed other people are also saved by grace through faith…not by jumping through hoops or being perfect. God has given them grace so who am I to do otherwise?

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not a result of works, so that no one may boast. ~ Ephesians 2:8-9

    1. It’s old from Me+Em and no longer available. I tried to find something similar but couldn’t. Sorry about that.

  1. Very nice examples for fall and winter. Thank you for pulling together. Just FYI the lipstick is on sale right now at Macys and Nordstrom.

  2. The fall inspiration boards are fabulous. This was a stellar post!! So well organized and easy to navigate. I would love more like this. Thank you, Kay! Bravo!!

  3. The best part of your boards is how adaptable they are! I can take the ideas and apply what I already have in my own wardrobe. They also help me see if I have any wardrobe “gaps” – items I currently don’t have but would be great to add to my closet. Thanks for the inspiration! 🙂
