January 30, 2023

Can you believe January 2023 is coming to a close tomorrow? I generally find the first month of the year to be a long one, but the older I get the faster every month whizzes by. What about you? I’ve decided to feature our monthly favorites again this year. At the end of each month I’ll gather 10-12 favorite clothing items, accessories, beauty finds or even lifestyle products that I’ve been using and loving that month. And I’ll also be sharing the five top sellers at Dressed for My Day for the month. So today let’s check out our January 2023 favorites.

Kay’s January 2023 Favorites

First I’ll share twelve of my January 2023 favorites. These are items I’m wearing, using and loving this month.

Talbots Relaxed Straight Leg Jeans & Evereve pullover hoodie

I actually just got the Talbots relaxed straight leg jeans in this past week, but I immediately fell in love and put them on for a date night right after taking these full length jeans out of the package. They feature a nice lightweight denim, a beautiful straight leg silhouette and a 30.5″ inseam, perfect for me at 5’8″.

My Talbots Relaxed Fit Straight Leg Jeans

I realize these relaxed fit full length jeans may not be for everyone, but I think they’re very modern and on trend. More importantly to me, they just feel great on. I came home from church Sunday and put these jeans on for the afternoon whereas I normally put on joggers or even pajamas. That’s how good they feel. But I also think they look very youthful and relaxed and even flattering…for a relaxed fit straight leg jean. They do run a little large, but I stayed with my usual size 8 since they’re supposed to be a relaxed fit.

That Evereve pullover hoodie is another January favorite. After doing the 2023 Fashion Trends video last week I began looking around for hoodies, and landed on this one. It’s soft, bright and fun to wear. It runs true to size; I’m wearing a medium.

Madewell Perfect Vintage Straight Jean in Vintage Canvas Wash

Another pair of jeans that made my January 2023 Favorites list is the Madewell Perfect Vintage Straight Jean in Vintage Canvas Wash. These natural colored straight leg jeans also feel really nice on, and the color is very on trend for now and into spring and summer.

Natural Colored Denim with Camel
natural colored straight leg jeans // cashmere hoodie (another option and another) // sand colored hiking boots // earrings

These natural colored straight leg jeans run typical to size for Madewell, but large if you’re not used to shopping Madewell. I’m wearing a size 29, which is what I generally get at Madewell. I shared 5+ ways to style these or other natural colored straight leg jeans for winter in this post.

AG Alexxis High Waist Straight Leg Jeans

Are you noticing a pattern here? Ha! Yeah, I’ve been on a hunt for more relaxed fit straight leg jeans that still have a fairly slim silhouette and I think I’ve finally found my fill. I’ve had more slim fit straight leg jeans that I like (such as these from Talbots), but I wanted some with a looser or more relaxed leg. But as much as I love the really loose fit jeans on models and young gals, I didn’t want those either. So the jeans I’m sharing here as favorites all have that looser, more relaxed fit vibe with a slimmer silhouette.

How I Dressed for My Day Tuesday
sweater // straight leg jeans // boots // belt // necklace // earrings // coat

The AG Alexxis High Waist Straight Leg Jeans are the pricier of the three in my January 2023 favorites list, but I like them for their darker wash and hidden button fly. They run a little small; I’m wearing a 31, but very comfortably. I might could have kept the 30s, but then again these are supposed to be a relaxed fit.

By the way, that hummingbird sweater is another favorite. Unfortunately it is on backorder until mid May. Ugh, the times we live in!

Heart Mockneck Pullover

I’ve only worn it once since buying it, but this Heart Mockneck Pullover from Talbots is definitely a favorite January purchase. It’s a comfortable 53% Cotton, 30% Polyester, 17% Nylon blend and feels very soft. It will be perfect for Valentine’s Day, of course, but I’m planning on wearing it other times, too.

What I Shot a Video In

The Heart Mockneck Pullover runs true to size; I’m wearing a medium.

Old Fashioned Camisole

That’s not the actual name of the undergarment I’m wearing under this pretty silk blouse, but I’m calling it an Old Fashioned Camisole because that’s exactly what I was looking for. I didn’t want one of those camisoles you sometimes wear exposed under a blazer or cardigan. I wanted an old fashioned camisole undergarment like we all wore back in the 80s and 90s. Ha! That was like hunting for a dinosaur, I tell ya!

The old fashioned camisole has soft, elasticized straps and fits nicely true to size. I have it in ivory, but it’s also available in white and black. The price is great and shipping was a breeze.

Johnny Was Coffee Bean Brown Velvet Dress

My Johnny Was Coffee Bean Brown Velvet Dress was a Christmas present, and I absolutely love it. It’s a pricey one, but I know I’ll have this luxurious boho inspired dress in my closet for years.

You can see more of my Johnny Was Coffee Bean Brown Velvet Dress in this recent video. It runs true to size and feels lovely on.

Dior Addict Shine Lipstick in 841 Caro

I had been looking for a nice lip color to wear with red clothing because I wear a lot of it. But I didn’t want anything very deeply pigmented or harsh. I love wearing semi-sheer lip colors, so I tried the Dior Addict Shine Lipstick in 841 Caro and I LOVE it.

I wish I had a photo with me wearing it. I’m pretty sure I have it on in the top photo with the red hoodie. It goes on beautifully red, but definitely more sheer than it appears in the website photos above. The Dior Addict Shine Lipstick is very moisturizing, lightweight, silky and long lasting. Of course there are lots of other beautiful shades to choose from, too.

Colleen Rothschild Face Oil No. 9

I shared about my new affinity for face oils in this recent post. I’ve been using the Colleen Rothschild Face Oil No. 9 for about two months now and the results have been pretty amazing. My skin is looking so much healthier, especially in certain trouble-prone areas.

Facial Oils: the Essential Skincare Element You May Have Been Missing
Colleen Rothschild Face Oil No. 9

Recently I ordered another face oil (the Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Oil) and I’ve been trying it out this past week. But, while I like the Elemis oil okay, I’m not nearly as impressed with it as I am the Colleen Rothschild Face Oil No. 9, so I’m returning to it as soon as I finish the other bottle. The Colleen Rothschild Face Oil No. 9 is also less expensive when you consider the price of the two products is roughly the same, but you get twice the amount of oil in the Colleen Rothschild Face Oil No. 9.

If you haven’t read the blog post about face oils, definitely read it HERE.

Charles Stanley Life Principles Daily Bible

Moving on to a couple of lifestyle products, I have to take this month to rave about the Charles Stanley Life Principles Daily Bible. This is the 5th or 6th time I’ve used this Bible for my daily quiet time, but it feels fresh and impactful every time I read through it. I took off the last year from reading the Bible through, and I’m so glad I’ve returned to this format for 2023.

Charles Stanley Life Principles Daily Bible // GraceLaced devotional guide // scripture memory album

The daily readings in the Life Principles Daily Bible are broken into portions of the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs. You read a little of each every day. And Dr. Stanley has interjected a few notes on select scriptures as well as his biblical life principles as you come upon them in your reading. I think he writes very clearly and communicates biblical truth beautifully.

You know, it’s not too late to begin reading the Life Principles Daily Bible during 2023. When I need to catch up, I just read two entries a day until I’m back on schedule. Anyhow, I just wanted to share.

So those are my January 2023 favorites. Now, let’s check out the top sellers from readers and viewers at Dressed for My Day during the month.

DFMD Reader and Viewer Favorites for January 2023

I always like to add the little disclaimer that I can’t really know for sure that these were the items most purchased. But I do know that these were the links clicked through resulting in the most sells. And of course, I share affiliate links here on the blog, on the YouTube channel and on the LTK app and Instagram.

#5 – Puff Sleeve Sweatshirt

I didn’t list the Puff Sleeve Sweatshirt in my January 2023 Favorites, but I definitely love this beautiful reddish pink pullover. It is truly comfortable, but also very stylish and feminine.

What I Wore Friday
pink sweatshirt // similar jeans (in curvy fit / plus sizes / plus sizes curvy) // similar Sorel Lenox boots // similar coin necklace // classic hoops (similar)

I shared the pink sweatshirt in a recent How I Really Dressed for My Day post, as seen above, but also on this video. So I imagine both readers and viewers have purchased this fun top. If you haven’t checked out that video, it’s a must-see, especially if you enjoy wearing jeans.

Check out the video!

The pink sweatshirt fits true to size.

#4 – Denim Snap Front Shirt

I shared the Denim Snap Front Shirt in this last week’s video and it quickly took off. I do love mine. I’m sharing it again in a blog post on Thursday or Friday. The Denim Snap Front Shirt actually comes in two different shades of denim and fits true to size. I love the snaps. And I consider a good denim or chambray shirt to be a closet essential, especially in the spring.

The snap front shirt fits true to size and can be worn comfortably over a tank, as shown above.

#3 – Tinkle Razors

I use these Tinkle Razors to dermablade my face every few weeks, and evidently a lot of my DFMD followers do, too, because these are top sellers frequently.

Tinkle Razors

No, you do not grow a beard if you use the Tinkle Razors to gently “shave” away tiny facial hairs and exfoliate dead skin. And it takes a little practice to actually get effective with these razors. You can use them to take care of stray brows, too, of course. But I use them all over the bottom portion of my face to exfoliate and take care of peach fuzz.

#2 – Brushed Cotton Johnny Collar Pullover

I love the Brushed Cotton Johnny Collar Pullover for a nice spring sweater. I shared it in this last week’s video.

The Brushed Cotton Johnny Collar Pullover is super soft, runs true to size and comes in another stripe color combination as well as solids here. It’s 100% cotton.

#1 – AG Alexxis High Waist Straight Leg Jeans

And then, guess what! The readers/viewers’ number one best seller was also one of my January 2023 favorites: the AG Alexxis High Waist Straight Leg Jeans. I won’t bother with another picture of them. I’ve shown two above. These truly are some great relaxed fit straight leg jeans. I have a feeling most people, like myself, purchased them when the wash I have was on sale. Now they are full price. But you can always favorite them on this LTK post and get a notification when they are marked down. Just click on the little heart on the square with the jeans.

Well, that’s a wrap! I hope you enjoyed learning about my favorites for January 2023, as well as the top sellers. And let me know if you have any questions about anything I’ve shared here today. Tomorrow you’re invited to our monthly Coffee with Kay, right here on the blog! I look forward to seeing you then.

Blessed for My Day

Over the years one of the most surprising lessons I’ve learned in life is that serving others is a surefire way to improve your disposition. When I start feeling sorry for myself, I know that serving other people may well be the elixir that cures my self-pity. When I begin to get discouraged with how my life is going, I know that serving others will change my perspective. And when I feel neglected or left out, I remind myself that if I were to serve someone else by including them, inviting them in and serving them, I’d actually feel more fulfilled.

That’s how life is in Jesus’ economy. It’s often a little upside down from what we would expect. But this should be no surprise. Jesus himself explained to His disciples that anyone who wants to be first must be the last and the servant of all. Today trying serving someone else – your spouse, a friend, a child or grandchild, someone who is hurting – and see if you indeed actually feel like a winner.

Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.” ~ Mark 9:35

  1. Is there a video about purses/handbags and how to chose. I’m very short and it is difficult to find the correct size and one that will hold all my stuff ha!

    1. Hi Beverly. I don’t think so. But you’re right; you do want to choose accessories that are proportional to your body. Also, beware of choosing handbags that hit you at a place on your body where you don’t want to draw attention ( such as a crossbody that hits at your hips, if that is a wide part of your body). And when accessories are a contrasting color they will draw more focus whereas if they blend into your outfit they will garner less attention.

  2. Kay, I love the velvet dress! Also I appreciate the post , 5 ways to wear the cream jeans. I actually had worn an outfit like yours with the caramel colored hoodie!

  3. Liked the heart and light blue and white striped tops from Talbots. Looked nice on you. I am been on the waiting list for the Sundance top since you showed it the 1st time. Wish didn’t have to wait until May. Oh, well, should be worth it. The jeans high waisted AG are out of stock in 29 waist. Hope they come back in. Want a new pair of jeans that are high waisted. It is hard sometimes to remember we need to serve others, love ones, husband, children, etc. You are so right it does make you feel good.

  4. Yes!! An old fashioned camisole!! I’ve searched the stores for this very thing for my 91-year-old mother, but everything I see falls more under the shapewear category and doesn’t work well for her. (The undergarment industry is really missing out by ignoring her demographic.) I was planning to search Amazon (again!) for a nylon camisole today, and you’ve found it for me. I think I’ll order one for myself as well.

Is there a place where we can post our Scripture memory passage for this week? I did not see an email for that.

    Thanks!!

    1. Hi Melanie. We don’t do a scripture memory passage this week because it was a 5th Sunday. We’re posting on the 1st and 3rd Sundays.

  5. I love the Evereve sweatshirt! I especially appreciate that it doesn’t have the typically banded waistband, which can add bulk where I don’t want it. I just bought it and hope that it looks as nice on me as it does on you.
