January 1, 2025

Happy New Year! Well, well, it’s 2025. As usual, it will take me a bit to wrap my brain around that, much less my mouth! My assistant and I had an extensive meeting on Monday to begin sprucing some things up around here and in my email newsletters, as well as planning out fresh content for the year ahead. I’m so grateful for all the comments in yesterday’s blog post. They’ll really help me to chart out a content calendar that will spark your interest and meet some needs. Today let’s take a look at a few of our favorite things from the final month of 2024.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. I have decided to continue these monthly round-ups of top sellers and my favorites into 2025. It sounded last month like you ladies do enjoy these. Remember, these are simply the items that garnered the most click-throughs resulting in purchases at Dressed for My Day in December. The final purchases may or may not have been of these items. But generally we’re talking high enough numbers that I think it’s safe to say these were indeed the top sellers for December, 2024. I’ll follow those up with a few of my favorites from the month.

I always let my assistant Lucy set this blog post up for me. She runs the analytics and makes the graphics and puts all the pictures in here before I come in and just write the words. Ahh, delegation! Anyhow, I say all that to say that I enjoy finding out what has resonated with you as I go. Let’s see what everyone bought! The items in our top sellers are listed in order from 9 to 1.

Quilted Down Puffer Vest

Oh good! I do love this quilted down puffer vest from Talbots. It’s a favorite of mine, too, even though I didn’t list it this month.

I comfortably sized down to a small in this vest. The trim fit, soft down and beautiful gold hardware make this vest sporty and a little elevated. It’s still available in most sizes in black, red and indigo blue. (Somebody hold me back from ordering that red one!)

Crystal Embellished Slim Ankle Jeans

Oh fun! I wore these crystal embellished slim ankle jeans to both of my granddaughter’s birthday parties, and they felt appropriately festive and comfortable. This Mimi knows how to bring a little bling to the occasion! I’m wearing them today in celebration of the new year, too.

Speaking of being a Mimi, I’m going to start having a Mimi Monday in my email newsletters. I’ll share items that all you grandmothers (and aunts!) may enjoy, like unique gifts for teens, toys for little ones, children’s books, fun activities to do with your grands and more. Make sure you’re signed up for my daily newsletter if you’d like to see what’s up on Mimi Monday.

Back to the jeans, they’re still available in most sizes in Misses, Petite, Plus and Plus Petite. They fit me true to size; I’m wearing a 10 misses.

Button Back Funnel Neck Pullover

Ooh! And here’s the funnel neck top I enjoy wearing with those embellished jeans. I think this pink was about sold out by the time I showed it, so maybe many of you picked it up in one of the other fun colors.

This super cozy top runs true to size for a nice fit. It’s on sale and marked down even further, so it’s selling out fast.

City Lips Plumping Lip Gloss

I’m thrilled to see City Beauty City Lips plumping gloss on our list of top sellers. I wear these absolutely every day, and I never get chapped lips anymore. Even more significantly, I think my mouth actually looks better than it has for years: fuller, healthier, and fewer little feathering lines.

City Lips Lip Plumpers

You can always use my code KAY15 for 15% off sitewide at City Beauty. They have so many great products that specifically address the signs of aging. Right now – this is BIG – you can buy one City Beauty City Lips Night Oil and get one FREE! You’ll need to put two night oils in your cart and use code NIGHTOIL at checkout to see the savings. I use this silky product every night and it makes a HUGE difference in the health of my lips. This deal ends Thursday at midnight.

Grey High Waist Relaxed Jeans

Wow! I guess you really did like these grey (Carnegie wash) high waist relaxed fit jeans because they’re about gone. Good buy if you got some because I’ve heard that grey is really expected to trend for spring. Of course, they look great right now, too.

I find these classic jeans to run true to size; I’m wearing a misses 10 comfortably. Keep in mind I’m 5’8″ as you look at where they hit me in the photo above.

Sequin Harlow Shirt

Here’s a fun one! I had never even shown anything from UNTUCKIt before I modeled this sequin Harlow shirt and a couple of others in this November blog post. I love the shirt myself. It fits very comfortably true to size.

UNTUCKit for the Holiday Party Season

Unfortunately this shirt is going fast in sizes, but is still available in a few. It is final sale and, I don’t quite understand why, but it’s not discounted and the website says it’s not eligible for discounts. Strange. But the price isn’t bag for the quality if you’re looking for a shirt that is casual but also appropriate for celebrations. That said, you can use code KAY20 for 20% off regular priced items at UNTUCKit.

Cashmere Crewneck Sweater

Well this is no surprise. Ever since I starting sharing more Quince, their items have been flying through my analytics. I have to say, I think I enjoy wearing their cashmere sweaters more than any I have in my closet…and I have a LOT! But they have so much more than great cashmere, and they have items for the whole family and the home. Definitely worth checking out with such great pricing.

crewneck cashmere sweater

Any how, the Quince $50 crewneck cashmere sweater came in at the number 3 spot in our December favs. They have a wide variety of colors. Mine is in the color oatmeal and I sized up to a large for a roomier fit.

Emily Lex Water Color Workbook & Paint Set

And then finally (and next to finally) the Christmas gifts of the season made it to the number 1 and number 2 slot. I am beyond thrilled. I came across a full selection of Emily Lex water color workbooks and paint sets at a small shop in Skaneateles, New York, and I literally thought to myself, “I cannot WAIT to share these with my Dressed for My Day followers!” I gave them to my daughter and daughter-in-law for Christmas, and they turned around and ordered more. My son Daniel ordered one, too!

Emily Lex watercolor workbook // watercolor paint set

I’ve almost finished the winter watercolor workbook (which is currently sold out) myself. I find it so relaxing, and it’s helping me get back my creative juices after a fairly draining pre-holiday workload. I’ll be starting the garden watercolor workbook next. I do love her paint set, too. I think it just works perfectly with the books, and it comes with a single, multi-use brush. They’re sold out right now, but they’ll restock soon. And my son-in-law purchased these paintable notecards for my daughter. She loves them.

I have a feeling you ladies made their Christmas a really good one. You bought hundreds of these books and paint sets! I’m sure many were gifts for others, but if you got one for yourself I hope you’re enjoying it as much as I am mine.

Kay’s Favorite Things

I always like to share a few of my favorite things from the month, too. Here are a few of the things I loved using and wearing in December.

Garnet & Diamond Necklace from Quince & Pave Huggie Hoops

I haven’t even taken off my pave huggie hoops from Quince in over a month. I moved them up to my second holes in my ears and they work beautifully with my other earrings, adding a touch of sophistication and shine to anything I wear.

Jewelry
Garnet & Diamond Necklace (not shown here) // Pave Huggie Hoops // see original blog post here (also shown, Arabella Diamond Chain necklace by Penelope – use code KAY20 for an amazing 20% off at Penelope)

For some reason I don’t seem to have a good photos of the garnet and diamond drop necklace, also from Quince. I haven’t worn it as often, but it worked really nicely with things during the holidays. Both pieces of fine jewelry are truly stunning and the quality is great, but the prices are very reasonable. If you’re looking for fine jewelry, I don’t think you’ll find better than the offerings at Quince for the price.

Burgundy Washable Stretch Silk Blouse

I really enjoyed wearing this burgundy washable stretch silk blouse during the holidays, too. I apologize for not having photos, but I didn’t take as many “real life outfit” photos during the holidays while relaxing and spending time with family.

Burgundy Washable Stretch Silk Blouse

The blouse runs a tad small to me. I sized up to a large for a very comfortable fit.

Talbots Apple Cider Plaid Ankle Pants

I actually wore these Talbots apple cider plaid ankle pants no fewer than six times during the holidays from Thanksgiving through Christmas. They are super comfortable and I’ll have them in my closet for years. I actually already had another similar pair in the apple cider plaid, but I gave those to my mom, and she was thrilled.

plaid ankle pants // see original blog post here

The pants fit true to size for a slightly roomy fit. They’re still available in most sizes, including misses, petite, plus and plus petites, and they’re marked down considerably with additional savings in the cart.

Sorel Explorer Waterproof Lace-Up Booties

We have a major snow storm coming our way this weekend, so I’m glad I ordered these Sorel Explorer lace-up booties. Like all Sorels, they are waterproof and made for wet weather. On the day I wore the outfit below it was just cold and wet, but I’m eager to try them out in the snow.

water-proof Sorel Explorer Lace-up boots

The fit and feel are great right out of the box, and they’re lighter weight than they probably look. I actually also purchased the Sorel Joan Now waterproof Chelsea boots and enjoyed wearing them on Sunday, when it was also cold and rainy. They’re a tad more feminine, but they still feel sturdy with their lug soles and leather uppers. They come in a number of colors and are marked down 25% off.

Ally Chocolate Brown Calf Leather Tall Boots

I’ve enjoyed my Ally chocolate brown calf leather tall boots so much I’ve ordered a pair in black. Truly, all of my boots from Ally are just amazingly comfortable. As in, I’d rather wear these Ally booties than flats any day.

Academic Planner from Rifle Paper

I’ve been prepping for the new year for almost a month now, so I’ve been using my academic planner from Rifle Paper almost daily. I’ve used similar planners for about four years now, and I just love the format.

academic planner

My exact planner is sold out, but the same one with a different cover is available and marked down 50%. It’s an 18 month calendar, which runs from August (2024) through the next December, but I just always wait until January to start using it. It features large two-page spread calendars of each month as well as weekly planners with large spaces for each day. It also has a sturdy pocket page, fun stickers and goal-setting prompts.

Oylie Cuticle and Nail Spray on Oil

My nail tech uses this Oylie cuticle and nail spray on oil as she completes my manicures, and I absolutely love it. So I purchased some a few months ago and have been using it twice daily.

cuticle and nail spray on oil

The cuticle and nail spray on oil goes on lightweight, but it has really helped my manicures last longer and my nails stay healthier. There are a lot of scents to choose from, and they’re all delightful, I’m sure. But I have the sweet citrus.

SIMPLIFIED Wellness Workbook

Back to planning for the 2025… I’ve decided I’ve got to get more serious again about my health and fitness. So I’ve been very consistent with my workouts and walking the past few weeks. But I know there’s more to wellness than exercise. So I purchased the SIMPLIFIED Wellness Workbook to help me keep track of all the metrics.

wellness notebook

The SIMPLIFIED Wellness Workbook has some great prompts for setting fitness and wellness goals. But it also provides daily check lists for things like exercise, water consumption, vitamin consumption, rest, relaxation and more. I’m really enjoying having this little book to motivate me and keep me accountable.

SIMPLIFIED Highlighter Set

I’m a sucker for sharpened pencils and good highlighters. I write everything in my calendar in pencil, and I use those erasers frequently. Ha! By the way, I use these pencils. But I recently got these fun highlighters from SIMPLIFIED and they are helping me to organize my content calendar.

highlighter set

I didn’t even realize they include six different colors when I ordered them. They’re working well for me. By the way, I also have this Weekly Notepad that I’m keeping on my desk right above my keypad for a visual reminder of tasks I need to accomplish each day. SIMPLIFIED has a lot of great organization tools to help set you up for a good new year. And you can use code HAPPY2025 for 25% off their planners right now, too.

Blessed for My Day

Today I turned back to the very beginning of my Daily Bible to begin reading it through again. The Bible is arranged in manageable portions of the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs for each day, moving from the beginning of the Bible in Genesis to Revelation. So today I started in fairly familiar scriptures, including the first of Genesis, the first chapter of Matthew, Psalm 1 and Proverbs 1. So these powerful words felt familiar, but still fresh and full of promise.

But later when I have to wade through books like Leviticus and Haggai and Revelation, I confess that the reading isn’t as easy. A few people have asked me if I really understand everything I read when I go through the Bible in a year. No. No, I do not. But I understand a little more every time I read, so I’m growing in knowledge and in my understanding of God. You don’t have to completely comprehend God’s Word to benefit from it. It’s a lifelong journey, and we never exhaust it. But you’ll never know until you begin. And remember, the beginning of knowing…is simply a healthy fear of or reverence for God and His Word.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
Fools despise wisdom and instruction. ~ Proverbs 1:7

  1. Happy New Year! I enjoyed todays post. But the City Lip Oil site doesn’t seem to be working. I can’t get my order to take.
    Thank you!

    1. Hi Kit, I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble there. It is working for me; I just ran through it again. Make sure you have two of the City Lips NIGHT OILS in your cart along with code NIGHTOIL in the space for codes. It should ring up $39 (if you don’t have anything else in your cart). If you can’t get that to work you can certainly contact them through their support center or the “live agent” tab in the bottom of their screen. Hope that helps!

  2. Happy New year Kay!
Enjoy all that you prepare for us
I read the daily bible last year 2024 at your suggestion and started again today re reading it
I feel good knowing that you too struggle with understanding it all and appreciate your honestly – I will continue on
Last but not least happy anniversary early to you and James
My husband and I share the same anniversary date as you
Thank you again for all that you do

  3. Thank you for your post. It was so enjoyable. I’m really glad I found you a few months ago. It’s been a joy to get to know you through your Wed. videos and learn from your knowledge. Most of all I love that you also love the Lord and share about Him daily too. I look forward to 2025 with you. I already have on my gift giving list for next year to buy my daughters and daughter in law the watercolor books and paints. I had my shopping all done by the time you shared. I’m thinking about trying out myself but I really have no artistic ability in my body. lol Happy New Year.

  4. Thanks for your “Blessed for your day” I just finished
the year in Charles Stanley daily readings. I agree with Jayne…there was a lot I didn’t understand but kept going! Thanks for your encouragement! I may do it again or try Paul Tripp’s reading thru the Bible for a change!

  5. Happy New Year Kay. I just read yesterday’s post. You inspired me to intentionally show my socks after that post last year. I read the Bible daily too. One chapter of OT, one chapter of NT and one chapter of an episode. I have a devotional book for the Psalms. It turned out that I completed the OT yesterday. Today started Genesis 1 and Psalm 1 too. You’re right how you learn something new every time. I love reading and studying the Bible butI admit I don’t like reading the measurements of things. I’m looking forward to your blog and YouTube videos this year.

  6. Happy New Year! I was so excited to get the Emily Lex watercolor and paint set for a Christmas gift for my grandson! He seemed to really like it! I’m going to get one for myself.
