September 4, 2023

Well August seems like a foggy memory by now. Ha! We’re already four days into September. But it’s not too late to look back and see what was hot at Dressed for My Day in August, 2023. These are the products purchased most often here and at my YouTube channel by the same name. Let’s see if any of these items made their way to your closet.

I don’t just share these top sellers to give you FOMO. Ha! I check these analytics so that I can see what resonates with my viewers and readers. It’s important to me that I provide content and share styles that align with a wide base of my followers. I truly try to share shoppable items in a wide range of price points and a reasonably wide range of style aesthetics. But looking through these analytics helps me to find the sweet spot for the majority of my content.

Several of the items in the August HOT at DFMD list are among my favorites, too. But there are a couple of items I’ve not even shown here at the blog or on the YouTube channel. Ha! And we have a few repeat winners, too. Let’s check them out!

12 – Talbots Bristol Pants

Even though these pants are showing up for the first time on our HOT at DFMD list, these were big sellers all spring and summer. I love mine. I have the cotton blend pants in white and black.

What to Wear to a Graduation this Spring

The Bristol Pants run true to size for a very roomy fit. They’re marked down now and you’ll get an extra 70% off. Great 3-season pant.

11 – Relaxed Fit Tapered Cargo Pant

I’ve shared these utility green cargo pants in a couple of blog posts now, here and here. And I love the pants so much, I ended up ordering them in the light khaki, too.

I went with my smaller size in these cargo pants for a really nice fit.

10 – Double Face Wool Blend Duster

I have not shown this beautiful coat on the blog or YouTube channel, nor do I own it. But I did list it among my favorites in this blog post on Talbots newest arrivals.

It is a lovely coat from the looks of it in this photo. And I do know that Talbots generally has nice ones. Let us know if you purchased on and what you think about it.

9 – High Rise Wide Leg Jeans in Vintage Dark Wash

I picked up these full length wide leg jeans recently and knew readers would love to hear about them. If you’re wanting to test the waters on the wide leg trend, but don’t want to spend too much money on the experiment, these are the jeans for you.

These jeans run true to size and also come in curvy fit, which is, in fact, what I’m wearing. They’re on sale right now for 30% off.

8 – Houndstooth Blazer

I’m definitely seeing more tailored blazers in the marketplace this year, but slightly oversized jackets are still very on trend. And a plaid or houndstooth blazer is always fun to style for fall. I wore this one with a graphic tee and black cropped pants here.

Add some structure

And I wore it with those wide leg, full length jeans in this previous blog post.

7 – Perforated Italian Leather Belt

I’ve only shown the cognac colored perforated Italian leather belt on the blog and YouTube videos. But I’ve actually purchased the black one now, too.

Come to think of it, I did show I wore the black one in last Friday’s blog post on what I wore in London. The belt runs true to size for long length belt. As you can tell, I have mine doubled over a bit. But that’s really no problem since it is so nice and thin. I’m wearing the medium/large. The belt is 40% off today with code SHOPNOW.

6 – Effortless Jersey Square Neck Stripe Top

I’ve worn this effortless jersey square neck stripe top here on the blog and also in this video. It’s made of a silky, stretchy jersey fabric that feels great on the skin.

These jeans are generally going to look best with a close fitting top to keep the outfit proportionate. Which proportions am I referring to? In your outfit it is best to have some of your outfit fitted and some of it more relaxed, especially if one of the pieces is very voluminous. So to balance the volume in the jeans, wear a more fitted top.

I love this cheerful blue color, but I also have it in black and ivory. That’s what I wore for my travel days to and from London.

I found this top to run a little large, so I sized down to a small. It’s available for 25% off just through today.

5 – Mid Rise Utility Jogger Pants

I featured these mid rise utility joggers from Kohl’s in two colors in this blog post. They’re such a comfortable lightweight pant, perfect for transitioning into early fall.

The utility pants run true to size; I’m wearing a 10 very comfortably.

4 – Denim Popover Shirtdress

You ladies beat me to the punch on this one. I have indeed purchased the denim popover shirtdress from Talbots, but I haven’t had a chance to photograph it for a blog post or include it in a video yet.

I was about to write that the dress runs true to size when I read the reader comments on it and decided to try it on again. Reviews are mixed. I would say that it runs on the smaller size. I got the size 10 and it just fits. I often wear an 8 in Talbots dresses, but there’s no way I could have in this one. I am keeping it and will definitely wear it…probably with these booties or these flats (both marked down!) at first and then knee high boots later.

3 – Ankle Length Travel Pants

I’m pretty sure my friend Candy was wearing these ankle length travel pants in navy for our voyages to and from London. I love mine. They run true to size for a roomy fit and are perfect for travel with their zipper pockets.

Travel Photo

The indigo are sold out, but the black travel pants are still available in limited sizes. They’re final sale (I sure hope they come out with a similar replacement). But originally at $149, you’ll get these pants for less than $40. Amazing deal.

2 – Cotton Blend Polo Shirtdress

I’m so glad that many of our readers have purchased this cotton blend polo shirtdress. And I hope you like it as much as I do. I always love the look of these casual dresses, but so often they are cut too short for me at 5’8″. Not this one! It’s the perfect length for me.

Meet the Dress
polo style dress // sandals or here // market bag // earrings // necklace – See the original post for more details.

The dress is still available in navy peacoat and green dune, but sizes are going fast. It runs true to size; I’m wearing a medium comfortably.

1 – Utility Vest

I think this sporty utility vest is such a good layering piece for early fall. And if you live in a warmer climate that never really has a true fall, this vest could work nicely in your wardrobe for months.

Utility Vest

I noticed the utility vest is still available in this blue and a dune green for half price. And they’ve added two new colors at full price.

So those were the top 12 purchased items through Dressed for My Day in August. I’d love to hear if you purchased any of these and what you thought of them. So please share. And if you purchased other styles or beauty items or anything else through my recommendations recently, I’d love to hear about those purchases, too. I’m always so grateful to you for purchasing through my links. Remember, I do earn a small commission through those purchases, but at no cost to you. And those affiliate links are one of the main sources of revenue for supporting this endeavor. Thanks so much! I do not take you for granted.

Blessed for My Day

This week I begin working on a presentation for a large women’s night out event in eastern Ohio in a couple of weeks. I’m so excited about this presentation because it’s the first time I’ll actually speak on fashion to a live audience. Well, I did a few Zoom presentations during Covid, but this is a larger event and I’m excited about dressing my three dress forms for the audience while sharing tips with them.

I’ve had quite a ministry as a public speaker before I started this blog five and a half years ago, so speaking to large groups of women is nothing new to me. But those were all church or ministry groups and my messages were always biblical. This time I’ll be presenting a completely secular message, but I still want to share the love of God. And I want to make sure that He receives glory from everything I do and say. Will you join me in praying about this presentation? I would truly appreciate it.

If I speak with the tongues of mankind and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. ~ 1 Corinthians 13:1

  1. Hi Kay, Thank you so much for all your content. I look forward to it every day. I bought the Kohl’s Utility Joggers and liked them so much that I ordered two more colors. I have never shopped in Kohl’s before or wore joggers. I relied on your great suggestions and was very pleased. Since finding your blog last year I am so much more conscious of building a wardrobe. I appreciate how much love and effort you put into your work. Thank you.

    1. Lovely! Thank you so much for sharing, Jan. I do love it when I find something good like those joggers to share with everyone. I’m so very pleased that you like them so much. Enjoy! And thank you for your kind words, too. I’m amazed every day that the Lord uses what I do here to encourage women. It’s such a blessing to me.

  2. Kay you absolutely have my prayers for your upcoming speaking engagement. May God direct your words and thoughts, your heart and your mind toward giving Him glory. I, too, run a business that is necessarily ‘secular’ and ask God everyday for ways to bring Him glory. He is the one who brought me to the work and allowed me to help Him create it. Yet some grants require a secular use and not everyone is Christian. Yet I know He’s put me out in the vineyards. May your work in the vineyard bring forth abundant fruit in His name. God bless – and thank you for your beautiful blog. 🙂

  3. I bought the Kohls utility joggers in black. They fit well and are so comfortable that I went back and purchased them in tan and navy. Looking forward to wearing them when the weather cools off next week.

  4. Hi Kay, I bought the beautiful Talbots wool coat. i’m a “dressy” coat nut! And Talbots coats are such excellent quality. This coat runs very large. I normally wear a medium or 8 in Talbot’s coats, but went down to an extra small! (I’m 5’7”, 140 lbs.). It is very roomy. Fairly light weight wool and beautiful wine color. In my part of the country (Virginia), this is the perfect weight for late fall/early winter. I may try it belted too, and wear a beautiful silk scarf to brighten the look around my face.

    1. Thank you so much for sharing this, Linda. I’d been wondering. Yes, I generally love Talbots coats, too. I’m so pleased that you like this one. Thanks for letting us all know about it.

  5. Happy Labor Day Kay! I love the navy polo dress from Nordstrom, and the straw bag you have shown with it. I bought the bag last year and have really enjoyed getting so much use out of it with a pair of cognac colored Sam Edelman sandals all summer. I bought a felt pocket insert from Amazon to put in the bag that has a zippered pocket and many more pockets. I love a large tote bag especially in the summer for vacations and running around doing errands.

    1. Oh, I’m so glad you got the bag last year. Isn’t it just the best??? I was so pleased when they brought it back for this summer. I have an insert in mine, too. Makes a big difference! It’s just one that came as a gimme with a makeup deal or something. But it gets the job done. Thanks so much for sharing.

  6. I bought the polo dress in green. it is very comfortable. I wore it with leather sandals and a Tory Burch leather watch and a Tory Burch basket purse that had a leather strap. . I loved it. Very comfortable in Massachusetts where I was on a trip with my sisters.
