I know it’s still hot outside, although we definitely have had some significantly lower temperatures this week. But with schools opening in many states this week, I’m ready to think about how I can get my closet ready for transitioning into fall next month. So today I’m teaming up with Kohl’s and sharing some simple, casual outfits for early fall. You can take an extra 15% off your purchase of $100+ at Kohl’s using code CATCH15OFF. And right now you can redeem your Kohl’s Cash, too.

As I seem to be saying a lot lately, utility pants are hot this year. I was really hoping I could find some affordable options in this trending pant at Kohl’s, and I wasn’t disappointed. These Sonoma Goods for Life utility pants have a mid rise that works for most women and they run true to size (I’m wearing a 10). They also come in plus sizes and petites. The pants are available in a handful of nice neutrals that will work for so many casual outfits for early fall.

I love how these khaki colored utility pants work with my taupe slip-on sneakers. These sneakers are so comfortable and cool. They’re a great transition shoe because they still feel cool on my feet, and they go with so many things easily. The sneakers fit true to size.

Simple Casual Early Fall Outfit

My favorite way to wear these utility pants for early fall is with a fun graphic tee. When August arrives I know that we’ll be watching a lot of college football, so I think my husband appreciated me getting on board with this cute t-shirt (TTS).

It’s smart to have a few casual jackets in our wardrobe to choose from when putting together outfits for early fall. I thought this black bomber style jacket would be a fun one to add to my wardrobe this year. It comes in tan and olive green, too.

And guess what! Those utility pants also come in this cool storm abyss grey. I actually love them in black, but I decided I’ve got plenty of black pants. So I opted for the grey shade, and I’m not sorry about it. They work perfectly with my new Van sneakers.

I’ve never had any Vans, but I’m loving these. They run true to size for a comfortable fit. My grey Vans are actually called summer black, and they also come in black with a white stripe.

Snoopy T-Shirt

This time I paired the storm abyss utility pants with a grey, black and white Snoopy tee. How fun! By the way, I sized up in this tee thinking I might need a large since it’s a junior size. But it turned out to be very roomy on me (I have it clipped in the back here). So definitely just go with your usual size for this fun tee.

I’m carrying this sweet black crossbody with both of these outfits. It’s a great bag to add to your wardrobe to wear with outfits for early fall.

And I completed this second of two outfits for early fall with my Levi’s original trucker denim jacket. I’ve had this denim jacket in my closet for over 30 years now. But I recently purchased another denim wash of the same jacket and I can tell you the sizing has stayed the same; they run true to size for a really nice, slightly oversized fit.

Blessed for My Day

Do you know God well…or well enough? The better we know our God the more we will trust Him and lean into Him for direction, provision and purpose. But when we have gaps in our understanding of God we begin to “fill in the blanks” with how we think God may or may not be. Have you ever said something like, “I don’t think God would…” or “I’m not sure, but I believe God would…?”

When we fill in the gaps in our understanding of God with how we think He should or should not behave, we are, in essence, building an idol. We’re constructing a god in the image of our imagination or our limited sense of right and wrong. And when we build an idol like that, we risk misunderstanding the true God. On the other hand, when we seek to understand God through reading His Word and coming before Him humbly in prayer, He assures us that we can indeed get to know Him. And the more we know Him, the more we will love and trust Him.

For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
He is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
But the Lord made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before Him,
Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary. ~ Psalm 96:4-6

  1. Good morning from the mountains of western NC! I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you that when I first started enjoying your content, Fashion was the cake, and “Blessed for my day” was my icing. Now, I can truthfully say, the “Blessed for my day” is the cake, and the beautiful and timely fashion has become the icing! Thanks be to God, for your diligence and obedience in presenting Him well. Your efforts do not go unnoticed! Beneath our premium denim and cashmere is fully fashioned armor, and I couldn’t be more grateful!

  2. I am so happy you were able to surprise your parents on their anniversary. Your love for them just touches my heart!

  3. Love your balanced content! Thanks for always pointing us to Jesus- and for providing so many price point options for the clothing you present!

  4. How awesome that you surprised your parents on their 65th Wedding anniversary! I bet they were so excited to see all of you! What a wonderful thing to do. Nice be BFMD.

  5. Thank you for today’s BFMD – it really spoke to me. I’m in the process of reading the Bible completely through this year. I’ve previously read the New Testament entirely, but not the Old Testament. I’ve learned so much about God’s attributes and character by reading the Old Testament along with the New Testament. It’s been so beneficial I’ll probably read the entire Bible through in 2024 also

On a fashion note, you look so cute in the football t shirt and the Snoopy t shirt. Other posts you’ve also worn graphic tees and looked so cute. Somehow I’ve gotten in my mind that I’m too old (early 60’s) for graphic tees, although I also think some graphic tees look so cutesy that they end up looking “old lady”! But you’re making me rethink graphic tees – maybe they’d be a nice casual addition to my wardrobe. But there must be a point between too young / too old / just right…..maybe an idea for a future blog post?!?!

  6. Hi Kay! Yesterday morning I went straight to Kohl’s and bought these pants. They were on sale for $29.99 and they are super cute! I bought the tan color. They fit great and make my post menopausal body look good! Thanks for giving my fall wardrobe a jump start.

    1. Hi Jan. I’m sorry to hear that. It must have been a limited time offer and the post published on Thursday. Or it may be that some things are exempt.
