During the summer it’s often too hot to style your outfits by layering them. But if you accessorize even the simplest combinations with this color of leather, you’ll elevate your summer outfits every time…no layering required.

Elevate Every OUtfit with Cognac Accessories

Why Cognac Works

Recently cognac, also sometimes called saddle leather, caramel, rum or sienna, has been trending in accessories, including belts, handbags and shoes.

Summer Outfit Formula
See the original blog post for details: wide leg linen pants (TTS; wearing 10; c/o) (more economical option) // Eileen white classic linen shirt (TTS; wearing M; c/o) (Kay’s favorite more economical option) // belt // sandals // shoulder bag or here (more economical option) // necklace // earrings (c/o) // bracelet (c/o)

This rich, reddish brown adds depth to any outfit. While black, white, nude and even other colors of leather have their place among your accessories, cognac has the unique ability to elevate almost every single outfit you could put together. It just works.

How to Wear Color Over 50
see the original blog post for details: cropped wide-leg pants (from last year; color no longer available) and in linen blend (available in similar blue) // graphic tee // blazer no longer available (option and another option) // sandals // shoulder bag (more economical option) // belt // small necklace // compass coin necklace // earrings (use code KAY15 for 15% off sitewide)

And unlike those other colors of leather, you can wear cognac beautifully with every color in your wardrobe…

Wearing Frank and Eileen

as well as every neutral. Cognac brings to life simple combinations like camel and white…

The Trending A-Line Skirt

and black and white.

2 Ways to Wear Black Linen Pants this Spring and Summer
See the original blog post for details: black linen pants //  white tee //  Everlane Day Crossover Sandals // Veronica Beard Goody Bag // Levi’s denim jacket // cognac belt

Cognac also looks perfect with navy, another favorite summer neutral.

How to Look Relatable But Classy
See the original blog post for details.

And I like it with olive green as well.

But it also plays nicely with lots of color. I love how cognac accessories add depth and richness to muted tones and casual fabrics. These accessories look perfectly “at home” among more casual pieces.

Lessons from a Favorite Outfit

But cognac accessories also look classy and distinct with otherwise monochromatic looks.

Cognac is not new. In fact part of the charm of this rich, reddish brown tone of leather is that it immediately looks aged and substantial. But in recent months we’ve seen a resurgence in its popularity.

Frank and Eileen Linen Pants

I’m loving combining cognac shoes, handbag and belt in my outfits. But even a splash of this rich leather shade will immediately elevate your outfit. So you don’t have to combine all three accessories to get the effect. And for summer I’m preferring woven straw and fabric bags trimmed in cognac leather rather than full leather bags for the most part.

Tile White jeans from Madewell

If you fear that cognac sandals may look a little visually “heavy” on your feet, you might want to look for sandals that have clear, woven or even denim straps that are simply trimmed in cognac. Likewise, you can find straw bags and even woven belts with cognac trim. These look distinctly summery and so on trend.

Green Linen-Blend Pants
See the original blog post for details: pintucked linen-stretch slim-leg pants // navy palm tank // lightweight white double-breasted jacket // mixed-pattern square scarf // linen slides // bucket bag // earrings (c/o) // bracelet (c/o)

I am so happy with my cognac crossover sandals and the other similarly colored leather accessories I’ve collected for my spring and summer wardrobe. So I’m not necessarily looking for more at this point. But in the case that you’re interested in adding this rich brown leather to your accessory wardrobe in a belt, shoe or handbag, I’ve scouted for them in a wide range of styles and prices.

Cognac Sandals

I found selections from flats to heels, dressy shoes to more casual.

Cognac Belts

A classic leather belt is always a good investment. But I found several that include part canvas or wicker, too. Those are really nice for the summer season.

Cognac Handbags

I found so many beautiful summer bags featuring cognac trim as well as full cognac leather designs. Choose a size that works with your frame.

I have a feeling someone will ask, so let me go ahead and assure you that your belt, bag and shoes do not have to exactly match. If you would like to create a trio of cognac accessories, simply look for some that are in a fairly close shade and wear them with confidence. Thanks so much for stopping in!

Blessed for My Day

It’s one thing to face the consequences of our poor choices; it’s quite another thing when we have to watch other people endure those turn of events in their lives because of our mistakes. Have you ever felt the guilt of watching someone else suffer because of your mistakes? That’s hard, isn’t it?

But we can know that God’s grace is sufficient to cover even those hurts. God is loving and kind. Ask Him to heal the hurts in your loved ones and trust that He will do so.

May those who wait for You not be ashamed because of me, Lord God of armies;
May those who seek You not be dishonored because of me, God of Israel,
Because for Your sake I have endured disgrace;
Dishonor has covered my face. ~ Psalm 69:6-7

  1. Absolutely Kay! the Cognac Accessories look so Chic and Elevated and you are right any colour looks beautiful with it , I love White with Cognac and Soft Khaki + Cognac it just speaks to me of Summer . Loved your BFMD today too as well as asking for God’s loving grace I think we need to always admit when we have made a mistake , hard as it is ❤️. So pleased James has been taking good care of you , hope your virus goes soon , I thought you sounded quite croaky in last weeks video , Bless you lovely lady 🤧🤒💐

  2. Hi Kay I meant to ask you I love the straw tote bags but do they catch on or click your clothing? thats the only thing that stops me getting one ?

    1. I have loved straw bags for years and have several experiences with snagging knits. Some of the bags were quite expensive (went to a resale shop) and made from natural raffia. Raffia is a natural fiber which breaks down. Imagine a twig that breaks in half. Definitely snags. That being said, I have 5 bags right now that are perfection so just look closely and feel them before buying. I love them

      1. Thank you Barbara I will bear that in mind or perhaps look for one with a handle I can carry rather than a tote ❤️

    2. I completely understand that concern. The ones I have don’t but I have come across some that certainly could. I’ve tried to recommend ones from reputable brands I’d trust, but if you order one do a “feel test” before removing tags and keeping.

      1. Thank you Kay too , I will do the ‘hand feel’ check and yes buy from reputable and trusted like you’ve mentioned ❤️

  3. Kay, I’m so glad that you are being healed! And I’m so glad that James has been taking care of you!
I really like the cognac belt and shoes with the black and white – looks so dressy.

  4. Hi Kay! You have been way ahead of others in praising cognac accessories. In fact, I purchased some gorgeous cognac loafers months ago because of your recommendation. Your influence continues as I bought a beautiful canvas and cognac trimmed bag from Tuckernut, a cognac belt, and cognac sandals. Thank you for helping all of us stay current and stylish! Most importantly, take care of yourself and stay healthy!

  5. Your blessed message is so true. I love cognac anything. It looks so sharp with your outfits. I’m recovering from surgery and my stomach is still bloated so it will be a few weeks before I can use my cognac accessories with my pants.

Also Kay I received about 6 old emails just now.

  6. I love any brown accessories, but I agree with you, cognac is very chic and versatile! Much moreso than black, imo.
