Hi, it’s Abby! I’m taking over my mom’s blog today to share with you how I am getting ready for fall. This year I have decided to get a little more excited for the fall season. I am not quite ready to bring all my sweaters out yet, but I have put just a few fall touches around my home to get me excited for the change in season. Below I am sharing a few of those warm, cozy touches. I am even sharing what I will be serving up in the kitchen, and what my family of three will be up to.

Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

Throughout the year I love to change out the decorations in this wooden bowl to match the season or the holiday that is approaching (similar bowl). This table sits right in the middle of the main floor in our townhouse and I think it provides the perfect opportunity to decorate just a little for the season without it clashing with my home decor or being too time consuming or costly.

So for the next three months these cute little pumpkins (similar item), acorns (similar item), and decorative wooden spheres will sit right here (similar item). You can find similar items at Target now. I swapped out the greenery that I had in this vase for some little fall florals that I found at Hobby Lobby. If you are shopping at Hobby Lobby for florals, please only buy when they are 40% off. Patience is needed sometimes. But here is also a cute option from Target. I actually buy a lot of fake florals from Target for Christmas too.

And here is a cute little fall vase for your florals.

Right across from this little entry table is my guest/half bath. The bathroom is pretty simple so I thought swapping out what I usually have in there wouldn’t be too hard. I found these inexpensive hand towels ( additional hand towels) at Target and I love them. I have shopped the Casaluna line at Target several times now and I am always pleased with the durability and feel of their towels. I think they are a great affordable option for refreshing your guest towels.

And with the new hand towel I just had to change out the soap dispenser. I found this cute little orange one for just ten bucks. I love the size and style of it so much I have already decided to get the gray one for when I switch back.

Like I mentioned, I don’t typically get into the fall season too much, and so I don’t have a lot of decor to put out but I wanted to add something to the living room this year. My one condition was that it had to match with the rest of my decor already in the space. So I found these cute yet simple white ceramic pumpkins from Target (large pumpkin, small pumpkin). And wow, they were so affordable for how they look and feel. I am in love with this little moment. You can find a similar brown tray here. (another tray option // and another tray option)

large pumpkin // small pumpkin // half baked harvest smash candle

Of course this grouping was not complete without my FAVORITE fall candle. This will be my third year to burn the half baked pumpkin smash candle by sniff . This candle is not too sweet but it is extremely cozy and inviting with notes of pumpkin spice, cinnamon stick, cardamom, whiskey, brûléed orange, salted maple, and roasted chocolate. But my mom also ordered me the new half baked apple cider smash candle, too, and I can’t wait to burn it soon.

I promise either of these candles will make you want to start baking or put on a pair of fuzzy socks and snuggle up with a good book or your favorite movie. I am very picky when it comes to candles and I have to say this brand is one of the best when it comes to creating candles that burn well and fill up the whole room quickly with inviting scents.

And speaking of Half Baked Harvest…I cannot wait to start making some of my favorite fall and winter recipes from my most beloved cookbook author and blogger. Teigan Gerard has been creating recipes for the home for over a decade on her blog Half Baked Harvest. I think I cook a Half Baked Harvest recipe at least three times a week. The fall recipes are simply the best and so easy. I love crockpot recipes this time of year and she has so many in her cookbook. I highly recommend getting her cookbook for yourself or as a gift. There is truly something for everyone in it.

Something in my home I always like to make a little special is my kitchen table. I insist on always having a tablecloth and placemats and something fun in the center. Above is a picture of how my table looks now and below are some dream ideas I have for a fun fall and harvest look. You can shop my ideas through the shopping widget below.

I have also made a few fall additions to my wardrobe this month. I went shopping with my daughter on my birthday and we had a blast at Anthropologie. Hannah may only be 9 months but she is already one fun shopping buddy.

shirt // High-Rise Wide-Leg Jeans by Maeve // Cole Haan sneakers

The picture above is just one of the looks I created from our shopping trip. I can’t lie…I have already worn this outfit out three times this past week. One of the many perks of being a stay at home mom and seeing different people at different places throughout my week. Ha! This shirt has been so comfy. It is very soft and very light weight, making it the perfect transition piece into fall. You could wear it layered with a graphic tee underneath or on its own buttoned up. The Colette Cropped High-Rise Wide-Leg Jeans by Maeve are seriously the softest jeans I own and they are so comfy and keep their shape. Like I said, I have worn them three days in a row and they are still fitting great. And I am wearing my new Cole Haan sneakers that I got in the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. These sneakers have been a game changer. They go with everything and I love how comfy they are.

Well there you have it! These are all the ways I have gotten our house ready for fall. I think now I will start planning my family’s trip to a pumpkin patch or perhaps we should go apple picking. I love apple recipes this time of year. In fact I just made some delicious apple butter which made my house smell amazing.

I hope you are getting excited for this new season! I know the weather doesn’t get too much cooler in many places but I think it is nice when we can make our homes feel a little special.

Thanks to my mom for letting me share my autumn home refresh with you today. She’ll be back here tomorrow!

Blessed for My Day

The last few months of the year can get busy very quickly and I tend to add too much to my plate as the holidays approach. Sometimes I add so much to my calendar that I am quick to drop the things that are most important. Following Jesus needs to be how I start each one of my days, but sometimes I get start thinking that I need to accomplish these chores or text this person back or run this errand before I choose to sit down and open God’s Word.

The passage in Mark where Jesus calls His disciples has always struck me as awe inspiring. Would I quickly drop the nets and follow Jesus? Do I live my life in a way that reflects my daily need for a savior and friend to follow and imitate? Right now I need to ask the Lord to help me see the things that I am entangled with and the things on my to-do list that are preventing me from following him fully and with my whole heart. I long to be a fisher of men, too, but I know I cannot do that without first following the One who saved me.  ~ Abby Walker

Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” ~ Mark 1:16-17

xoxo, Kay

  1. LOOKS GREAT AND I LOVE THE BLACK TABLE. DID I MISS IT? I CAN’T FIND WHERE THE TABLE CAME FROM. I HAVE A PERFECT SPOT FOR IT. THANK YOU.

    1. Hello! Sadly the table was a thrift store find and I painted it black to fit into my house. It is a cute look and perfect size.

  2. Great job Abby. I know your Mom appreciates you helping out with the blog. It is always fun changing up decor to go with the season or holiday. Happy Autumn.

  3. Dear Abby,
You have your Mothers wonderful gift of connection through words. I loved your ideas about a Fall refresh for my home! You shared great ideas and I am definitely going to try some candles! Tell your Mom to let you share once a month! We’d love to “dress up” our homes as well as elevate our style! Blessings, LeeLee

  4. What a blessing you BOTH are to each other! Mother / Daughter duos…… they are so special! I remember when our daughter was first married and I got to go to their apartment. I just wanted to sit like a fly on the couch and “watch”….. as our daughter did life in her own new home and with her new husband. It was like getting a front row seat to “the fruit of my labor”!!! Everything I had poured into her was being lived out — she had passed through our life on the way to her own and she had arrived!!! Abby, I’m sure your Mom is so blessed to watch you being the wife, mother, homemaker, AND her little helper-bee with the blog! Great job, by the way, and thank you for inspiring us to sprinkle the beauty of fall throughout our homes! I especially liked the idea of keeping it simple…. having that one table in the entryway that you could change as the seasons do!

    1. Kathy….. I love the way you shared about watching your daughter. I feel this very same way watching mine. So fun. Fruits of our Labor for sure. Thanks for sharing. I screenshot your words. Perfect. We have the same name. Not many Kathy’s with a “K” out there. My full name is Kathleen

  5. Thank you Kay and Abby! I am trying to move away from seasonal decoration, and just change a few things out much like Abby has done. As much as I love scented candles, my housemate is scent-averse so I no longer have any. I do love LED candles and have several in my living room, dining room, and foyer. The ones I have were pricey, but they have a flickering “flame” that gives the vibe of a real candle.

  6. Hello Abby & Kay….
I so much enjoyed this post from Abby today! So refreshing and love her view from her dining room table…,.the tree view they have is Amazing!

    Blessings,

  7. Hi Abby, thank you so much for coming alongside your mom and blessing us with your inspiring ideas. I’m a lot older than you but also enjoys cooking and entertaining, and many of Tieghan Gerad’s recepies are amongst my favorites. It was lovely to catch a glimpse of the cozy, welcoming home you have created for your young family. May the Lord continue to guide and direct you in all things!

  8. Loved your blog post. I just started following your mom so it’s nice to see you and read what you’ve shared. Your Blessed for my day, hit home for me. I too often have been looking at blogs with my morning coffee when I usually go to Gods Word first. Thank you for the reminder about being too busy as we first start our day and not start it with Him. Love what you’ve done to your home and loving those new jeans you’ve purchased. Do they run true to size?

    1. Hello! The jeans do run true to size on me. I grabbed the size I wear in most jeans and they fit great. They are sort of a high rise. Definitely a great pair to have!!

  9. Abby, I have enjoyed reading your smart decorating ideas for fall! I usually put out pumpkins and apples but this year I am putting more pumpkins – every size – and flowers and candles. I’m hoping that will make the 90 degree weather more tolerable! ha
Hope you and your family have a great week! And I would love for you to do this at least once a month!

  10. Wow, Abby, this was a great post! Thank you for all of the fun fall ideas. I am definitely looking into those candles. You have a beautiful home. Have a blessed day!

  11. Enjoyed your post, Abby, and the glimpse into your life. I rarely burn candles but ordered one for my son and another for a friend. Thank you for introducing me to these candles.

  12. Thoroughly enjoyed Abby’s post. Her voice feels familiar, like Kay’s, but distinctly her own. Would welcome a guest post from Abby any day, especially if it means Kay gets a well-deserved break!

  13. Hi Abby! What a treat to see you in this post! Love all your fall touches in your home. ❤️. I bet your daughter is growing up fast! Love the apple picking and pumpkin patch’s this time of year as well. 🎃

  14. Great post, Abby! Love your choices of good looking and reasonably priced items. Also easy to store after the season is over

  15. Love your post Abby. So many bloggers completely overdo the seasonal decorating. I’m more minimalist and that means not so much clean up and put away! Your bfmd message is perfect for me!
