November 1, 2022

I’ve missed a couple of months sharing my favorite things and yours. But I can’t let this month pass by without sharing the things I’ve been using and wearing and loving. These are too good! And my readers and viewers have been putting some really great items in their carts, too. I’m so excited to share with you our October 2022 favorites!

I try to share these favorites monthly, so I’ll make a point of getting back in the habit. You can know for certain that these are the items I’m using, wearing and loving. Many of them I purchased (or was gifted) during October. But others are items I purchased previously and they’ve really become a favorite during the month. I’ll be sure to tell you why!

After I share my favorites, I’ll tell you about the 5 top purchases here at Dressed for My Day and at the YouTube channel. That is these are the items that were clicked through most often resulting in a purchase. So it could be that other things were actually bought. Your privacy is indeed protected, and I have no way of knowing what you actually bought when you clicked through my links.

My October Favorites

16-Piece Luxury Makeup Brush Set

Lisa, the beautiful and gracious founder and CEO of BK Beauty, kindly gifted me the complete 16-Piece Luxury Makeup Brush Set after I met her at the LTKCon. I had been using a hodge podge of brushes of varying qualities for years, never quite sure how to choose the right ones.

BK Beauty Makeup Brushes
16-Piece Luxury Makeup Brush Set

These brushes have been game changers for me. I’m amazed at how soft they are, first of all. But they also pick up product so nicely and then deposit it evenly and beautifully. They just do what they are supposed to do. And they make applying my makeup so much easier.

Lisa also sent me the Angie Hot and Flashy 7-Piece Set, which is comprised of brushes specifically designed for the older woman. These brushes are super soft and a little smaller to help you apply makeup to hooded eyes and other such unique situations. All BK Beauty brushes are made from 100% cruelty-free, vegan fibers, and the quality is amazing. They are sold separately, too. You can use code kay10 to get 10% off your BK Beauty purchase at checkout.

Maracuja Juicy Lipstick

maracuja juicy squad lip set // Maracuja Juicy Lipstick in rose

I don’t even have a photo of it, but the Maracuja Juicy Lipstick from Tarte has become one of my favorites. It goes on so silky and smoothly. And it is moisturizing and light feeling on the lips. I’ve been using the shades Rose and Orchid, but they all look pretty and natural to me. You can use code kay15 to get 15% off at Tarte. You might want to try the maracuja juicy squad lip set. That’s actually what my lipsticks came in. I do like the juicy lip balms that come in the set, too.

Collagen For Her

Earlier in the fall I had a blog post sponsored by Collagen For Her. I had been using their Original Unflavored Collagen Peptides for just a few weeks at the time I wrote that post.

Collagen for Her
Collagen for Her Original Unflavored Collagen Peptides

I generally use Collagen for Her about four times per week, not really as often as suggested. I add it to my oatmeal, and occasionally I’ll remember to put it in my coffee. But I can tell you the Collagen for Her is making a huge difference at this point. My nails and hair are growing like wildfire! I can’t keep up. I’ve never needed to trim my nails before; they would generally just break. But now the nail tech has to trim them every time I get my nails done, which is about every 20 days. And they’re so strong and healthy.

Delancey Straight Cargo Pants

I purchased the Delancey Straight Cargo Pants several weeks ago when I walked into Athleta on a whim one day. And now I’m having to work hard a not wearing these comfortable, chic “yogo pants” every day. Ha! They run true to size; I’m wearing a medium.

The Delancey Straight Cargo Pant comes in this rustic beige as well as foliage orange and black. They are so very comfortable. I have washed them and they launder well. I washed in the machine, but dried flat on a rack. These nylon spandex pants are perfect for lounging at home, getting in a good walk or even out and about.

Korinne Chain Necklace

I just got the Korinne Chain Necklace last week when I was preparing for last Thursday’s Instagram LIVE. In the LIVE I shared how to accessorize different sweater necklines with jewelry. The Korinne Chain Necklace turned out to be the perfect length for layering smartly over a crewneck sweater. I like this shorter length over a crewneck sweater rather than a long pendant necklace because it keeps the focus up toward your face.

Korinne Chain Necklace in Gold

stretch corduroy straight leg pants

The red stretch corduroy straight leg pants shown above are another favorite from October. I love the ivory and brown pairs I also purchased, but these red cords are fast becoming my favorite. I’ve worn them twice and I brought them with me on my little trip, possibly to wear to dinner tonight. Of course I’m planning to wear these to the watch party when the University of Georgia returns to the National Championship again this year. Ha!

I will say that I sized up to a 10 in these, and now I’m wondering if I should have stayed with the 8. They do start falling on me a little with wear, but nothing a belt won’t fix. And they are very comfortable!

By the way, about that short sleeve cashmere tee shown above. I ordered several sweaters from Quince to check them out as a low price option for cashmere. I’ll be sharing a cashmere comparison post soon and I’ll share my findings then, but so far so good! I will say that this tee is a slim fit. I’m wearing a medium, but it is none too roomy.

Glen Plaid Ankle Pants

While we’re on Talbots pants, let’s go ahead and talk about these Glen Plaid Ankle Pants. I’m really enjoying them this fall, too, much more than I expected to. I like that they are fairly lightweight, but still substantial. They fit very comfortably and I think they just look so smart.

Black Ribbed Top and Glen Plaid Pants

I did size up in these Glen Plaid Ankle Pants, too. But again they’re quite roomy on me. I’ve worn them several times and I love that they pair so easily with things in my closet. Remember, I did a post about different ways to wear these HERE.

The Best Button Down

Shortly after I produced my recent video about how to wear a button up shirt, Spanx sent me their Best Button Down. If I’d had this white shirt for the video I definitely would have raved about it. In full transparency I have not worn this shirt yet. But I am just so impressed and it’s definitely in my closet for keeps. The Best Button Down features stretch poplin fabric and a stitched down front placket for no gaping at the bosom. So smart!

Spanx The Best Button Down with the Spanx the Perfect Pant

Spanx also gave me code LTKCONXSPANX to give you 10% off your purchase storewide + free shipping + free returns. I’m not sure how long this code lasts, but definitely try it.

Veronica Beard Miller Dickey jacket

Yesterday I was being interviewed for a local magazine and the reporter asked me what’s my favorite thing in my closet currently. Without hesitation I told her my Veronica Beard Miller scuba dickey jacket. Yes, it’s pricey. It’s an investment. I purchased it mostly with Nordy points after the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. But I have worn it SO MUCH this fall, really starting in late summer.

Of course I love the versatility of the Veronica Beard Miller Dickey jacket. This lovely camel color goes with so much. And because it’s fairly lightweight, I can wear it all year. And, being a Veronica Beard Miller Dickey jacket, I can zip different dickeys into it to create completely different looks.

If you are interested in a similar jacket, but don’t want to pay the price for the Veronica Beard Miller Dickey jacket, check out the blazers at Express. They offer a nice selection at lower prices. Make no doubt about it, the quality is not the same. But they are good blazers at a lower price point.

Barefoot Dreams Long Cardigan

With the change in weather I’ve been wearing my Barefoot Dreams Long Cardigan daily, morning and evening. It is so soft and perfect for wearing with my pajamas or loungewear.

Soft Camel

I purchased my camel colored Barefoot Dreams Long Cardigan in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and it has sold out several times. But it’s available in limited quantities right now and marked down again. I have a feeling this may be the last we see of this particular color. They do have it in pewter and black, too, but those colors are not marked down. The camel Barefoot Dreams Long Cardigan is 50% off!

Rifle Paper Large 17-Month Planner

I have loved using my Rifle Paper Large 17-Month Planner all year long. But in October my work schedule got crazy busy, so I have been glued to that thing. I dream about it at night!

Setting Goals
Rifle Paper Large 17-Month Planner

Anyhow, I just know it’s time to start thinking about a planner for next year. So I wanted to let you know that this Rifle Paper Large 17-Month Planner is a good one. I like that it has ample room for writing on the monthly calendar as well as daily planning pages.

I think I’ll get the Lea for 2023. But the Sicily sure is pretty, too!

Food Network Biscotti 16-Piece Dinnerware Set

When I purchased the Food Network Biscotti 16-Piece Dinnerware Set for a Kohl’s collaboration in September I had no idea I would enjoy these dishes as much as I have. They have created such beautiful tablescapes this fall.

They have proven to be durable in the dishwasher and perfect for fall meals like chili and soups. I love the coloring and I know we’ll enjoy them all winter, too.

The Top 5 Reader/Viewer Favorites

Truth be told, these are some of my favorites, too. Well, except I don't have the Travelon Anti-Theft crossbody. My friend Shelly shared that in her guest post about traveling Europe and you ladies scarfed them up! I think that is the number one seller in fact. But I don't know. Evidently there are well over a hundred of you ladies out there wearing the hammered link necklace that I'm also wearing frequently. Maybe you're wearing it with the Italian stretch flannel long blazer??? And you and I are both staying comfy and classy in our out & about stretch joggers and everyday stretch straight leg pants. Both are so great for looking chic while staying comfortable.

Blessed for My Day

At the close of my husband’s sermon he always gives us a practical and somewhat measurable challenge for the week based on the message he’s given. This week the challenge is, “Don’t complain. Instead, demonstrate your trust in God through exhibiting joy.” No problem. Right? Wrong! Oh my word. Just Monday I had to check myself so many times. I’m surprised at how many times I complain about things in an average day evidently.

Having little personal challenges like that based on the scriptures you’ve studied or the lesson you’ve been taught is a great way to examine yourself and put the biblical precepts into practice. As we do so, we also discover that we have an enemy who does not want us to grow in Christ-likeness, but want to keep us defeated and immature. That’s why we have to be aware of his tactics and motives so we can resist his ploys. Instead of getting frustrated, resist. Stand firm and know that he is a defeated enemy.

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. ~ 1 Peter 5:8-9

  1. Nice post. I like the red Corduroy pants and in the off-white color too. I haven’t got a chance to get into a Talbots store for about six weeks and thinking of running in there today and trying them on. What a nice BFMD. Sometimes it’s so hard to be joyful when so much is going on. I too find myself Complaining and We just need to stop and think the Lord. Have a blessed day.

  2. Hi, is there a “perfect shirt” in vanilla, cream, or ivory? I’d like to step away from a true white to a softer tone.

  3. I like your tip from your devotion. God has been working on me to be less “judgy.” I didn’t think I was that judgy, but when I paid attention to it, I found I was! It slips in so easily!

I love your blog-such a nice break in my day to take my mind off sober things. Thanks so much!

  4. I really look forward to your videos. Will watch for it tomorrow. By the way, how do I manage my subscriptions on your website? I can only find a way to subscribe but not edit. I think I’ve subscribed numerous times just to see if I can find more information. Don’t want to be negative here in this comment. Maybe someone can help?

    1. Hi. At the bottom of your most recent email you should see something that says manage subscription or manage preferences. Click on that and you should find the options for daily or weekly emails.

  5. Kay,
So glad I found your post. I was looking for what is on trend this fall and what is passé. Your comments were similar to what I read on another blog. Love that God called you to minister to women (50+) this way! Thx! Will follow you on Instagram.
