August 2, 2022

Today I’m rounding up my favorite garments, accessories, beauty products and such for July 2022. These are the things I’m really wearing and loving this past month. I’m also sharing the top five sellers at Dressed for My Day – both here and at my YouTube channel – so you can see what readers and viewers like you are buying, too. These are our July 2022 favorites!

This month my favorites are a hodgepodge of cool summer fashions and Nordstrom Anniversary Sale purchases that I’m using or wearing now. Unfortunately the NSale items are no longer on sale, but most of them are still available in limited sizes and quantities.

Clockwise and into center: High Rise Straight Leg Olive Crops // vintage rib polos // Nordstrom Moonlight easy crop pajamas // Where the Crawdads Sing // ON Cloudflow Running Shoes (more availability) // Rothy’s the Sneaker in sand // Cloth and Stone Shirred Neck Top // Lancome Eyeshadow Palette in beige brulee // Herringbone chain necklace // Kendra Scott Camry Drop Earrings

High Rise Straight Leg Olive Crops

I picked up these casual High Rise Straight Leg Olive Crops at Chico’s a few weeks ago and I’ve been wearing them frequently.

What I Wore Friday
cropped length straight leg olive jeans // top no longer available (consider this one or this one) // similar sandals //watch (use code KAYHRMS for 15% off your order at Nordgreen) // necklace // bangle

The cropped length straight leg olive jeans run true to size for a roomy fit. I wear a size 1 or 8M. They have a nice amount of stretch in them without stretching out over the day. I think they’ll transition nicely into fall, too. And right now the cropped length straight leg olive jeans are marked down over 50% off.

vintage rib polos

As you can see from the photo above, I’m wearing polo style tops a lot these days. That’s a little ironic because, after wearing them a lot in high school in the 80s, I developed a bit of a disdain for the silhouette. But with wider leg silhouettes coming back into style, I find these slimmer fitting tops work really nicely. And the ones I’m selecting don’t feel like the Izod polos of yore. They’re silky soft and stretchy, and have more modern necklines.

White Linen Pants and Blue polo top
linen pants // ribbed polo top  // sandals (50% off) // long pendant necklace customized with bronze veined teal magnesite // single necklace // earrings

This close fitting ribbed polo top is not tight, but it does hug the body gently. But my usual medium fits fine without feeling to revealing. I also have this ribbed polo top in white, but I don’t seem to have a photo of me wearing it. The ribbed polo top also comes in black and lavender dust.

6" Monroe Chino Shorts in Curvy Fit
4″ Monroe Chino Shorts in curvy fit // vintage ribbed polo top // sandals // necklace and bracelet no longer available // earrings // watch (use code KAYHRMS for an additional 15% off!)

Nordstrom Moonlight easy crop pajamas

I purchased the Nordstrom Moonlight easy crop pajamas in the NSale and started wearing them right away. These lightweight crop pajamas have lots of stretch and feel very comfortable all night long. And yes, I do generally get hot during the night, but not with these pajamas.

Moonlight pajamas

I also purchased my mom the Nordstrom Moonlight easy crop pajamas in light blue. And they come in grey. I wear the size medium and they are very roomy, but I like them that way.

Where the Crawdads Sing

I’m late to the book club with Where the Crawdads Sing, so to speak. I’m sure many of you have already read it. But I just wasn’t interested until the movie came out. Seeing the previews sparked my interest and I devoured the book. I found it fascinating and thought-provoking. In fact, when I finished reading Where the Crawdads Sing I had to wait a few days before I felt like I could handle the movie. The story is quite moving.

Of course, as I reported in yesterday’s Coffee with Kay, the movie sticks very close to the movie. Both were extremely enjoyable. I was glad I had read Where the Crawdads Sing before seeing the movie, and I think James wished he had, too. But the movie was cinematically beautiful and delightful.

ON Cloudflow Running Shoes (more availability)

I’d been needing new running shoes for some time and I’d gotten in a rut with the style I was wearing. So I decided to try the ON brand I’d been hearing so much about. Sure enough the ON Cloudflow Running Shoes are extremely cushioned and comfortable. I’m really enjoying them for my workouts. When I put them on I thought, “I might could start running again in these!”

ON Cloudflow Running Shoes // similar ON Cloudflow shoes

I purchased the ON Cloudflow Running Shoes in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, so they’re no longer on sale, but they are available in limited sizes. These ON Cloudflow shoes are similar and more in stock.

Rothy’s the Sneaker

While I’ve mentioned that I believe the Sonoma slip on sneakers at Kohl’s are just as comfortable, I really am enjoying my new Rothy’s sneakers. If nothing else, they do look a little more elevated and polished.

What I Wore Monday
black Avenue tee // Brooklyn ankle pants // Rothy’s sneakers // earrings

And the Rothy’s sneakers are quite comfortable and 100% washable. I love the sand color, but they come in lots of other colors and patterns, too. These are great travel shoes. They have nice padded insoles you can remove to wash.

Cloth and Stone Shirred Neck Top

Cloth and Stone is known for its ultra soft clothing. And this Cloth and Stone Shirred Neck Top is definitely soft, but it’s also very versatile in my summer wardrobe. I’ve worn it with everything from jeans to linen pants to linen shorts to other cotton shorts.

What I Wore last Sunday
tie neck top // linen pants // similar sandals // similar cardigan // single necklace // watch (use code KAYHRMS for 15% off your order at Nordgreen)

The Cloth and Stone Shirred Neck Top runs true to size and also comes in white.

Lancome Eyeshadow Palette in beige brulee

I purchased several new eyeshadow palettes recently, but the one I wear the most often these days is the Lancome Eyeshadow Palette in beige brulee. I love the soft tones in this palette. I demonstrated how I wear it recently on Instagram Stories and I saved it to my Beauty highlights reel HERE. But they actually have a great diagram on the inside of the palette on the mirror, and that’s what I used as my guide.

Herringbone chain necklace and Kendra Scott Camry Drop Earrings

I purchased both the Argento Vivo Herringbone chain necklace and the Kendra Scott Camry Drop Earrings in the NSale, but they are still available, too. I think these are going to be so versatile in my fall wardrobe, but I’ve already worn them a lot, too.

The Kendra Scott Camry Drop Earrings above are a dark, dark brown. But I also have the iridescent abalone and they come in two other brighter colors.

Your July Favorites

Next let’s take a look at my reader and viewer favorites. These are the five items that readers and viewers have clicked through the most and then made purchases. I can’t really know for sure that these were the items purchased, but chances are they were. Let us know if you purchased any of these and how you like them.

demi boot linen pants // L’Oreal Paris Le Color Gloss // Rails Chelsea plaid blazer // straight leg travel pants // 100% cotton muslin blanket

#5 – Rails Chelsea plaid blazer

The number five top seller was a Nordstrom Anniversary Sale buy. I also purchased one of these Rails Chelsea plaid blazers for Abigail. Since this slightly boxy, oversized plaid blazer features brown, black, camel and beige it is going to be super versatile in your wardrobe.

Sweater with Jeans and Jacket
cashmere v-neck sweater // Paige flare jeans // suede waterproof block heel booties // molten pendant necklace // herringbone chain necklace // Camry drop earrings // leather tote // See the original post.

You can wear it with most any silhouette of jeans. But I also paired it with black jeans in this post. And you can wear it with black and brown pants of other types, too.

Nordstrom Sweater and Caslon Jeans
Nordstrom cashmere crewneck sweater // Caslon distressed slim leg high waist jeans // Open Edit Kyla flat mules // Rails Chelsea plaid blazer // Allsaints Odette East/West leather tote // Kendra Scott drop earrings // Argento Vivo Herringbone chain necklace // See the original post.

#4 – straight leg travel pants

I’ve been wearing and sharing these great straight leg travel pants from Talbots since last fall. But they were marked down 40% just as I published my Buildable Capsule Travel Wardrobe for the Frequent Tourist. (See the video HERE.) So I think that may be why so many of my readers and viewers snapped them up in July.

Travel Pants Dressed up
Sam Edelman D’Orsay pumps // Talbots travel pants // similar wrap // See the original post.

I LOVE these pants. I wore them so much when I went to Georgia for a week in December to help Abby look for her wedding gown. I wore them to casual and more dressy affairs. So versatile!

#3 – 100% cotton muslin blanket

I mentioned in my June favorites post that I’m enjoying this 100% cotton muslin blanket in my morning room. I put it over my lap most mornings as I have my quiet time. It’s lightweight and feels very feminine and fresh and summery.

Muslin Throws
100% cotton muslin blanket

I hope you’re enjoying your 100% cotton muslin blanket as much as I do mine!

#2 – L’Oreal Paris Le Color Gloss

In my post, Wear Neutrals Over 50 and Look Vibrant, Not Washed Out, I suggested using a hair gloss such as the L’Oreal Paris Le Color Gloss to brighten your greying hair. Evidently a lot of you took me up on it. I need to use it next time I was my hair, in fact. While you are supposed to be able to use the L’Oreal Paris Le Color Gloss in the shower, I generally wash and condition my hair and then get out of the shower to apply the product. I leave it on for the suggested 15 minutes while I make my bed, etc. And then I rinse it out in the kitchen sink. I do think it is making my hair shinier and less dull. And it’s helping take out some of the yellow.

#1 – Demi Boot Linen Pants

The Talbots Demi Boot Linen Pants were reader favorites in May and June, too. And I think we’ve about bought them all ladies!

Elevated Linen Outfit for Summer

My mother told me just the other day that these Demi Boot Linen Pants have definitely been her favorite pants this summer. I can say the same. I hope you’re enjoying yours, too!

Blessed for My Day

Not only does following Jesus obligate us to obey God’s Word, but our lives are more fruitful and joyful when we do indeed keep His commands and live by His precepts. When we allow ourselves simply to gloss over our Scripture reading or listen half-heartedly to biblical teaching, we rob ourselves of the true transformation that God’s Word can bring to our lives. God calls us not to be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds as we absorb His Word. That amazing transformation only takes place, however, as we put into practice the things we read.

Today is a good day to consider your own transformation. Looking back on your life, can you say with confidence that you are a different woman, a more godly woman, than you were, say, three years ago? Are you navigating life any differently today than you did as a younger woman? Have your priorities changed any? Do you find it easier – not easy…but easier – to forgive those who have offended you, hold your tongue when needed, speak the truth boldly, share the gospel freely and confess your sins when you feel convicted? For that matter, do you feel convicted occasionally? Or has your hearted hardened against the Holy Spirit? These are good evaluations that might help us know if we are indeed being transformed or if we are conformed to this world.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. ~ James 1:22

xoxo, Kay

  1. You sharing the L’Oreal hair color gloss and then me buying it, was one of the purchases that has really made me smile. You see, while our well water is good, it had caused my naturally silver hair to yellow, which did not make me happy. Upon the suggestion of a friend, I started using bottled water to wash my hair over one year ago. While that has helped a little, there was still way too much yellow in it. Thanks to you, the yellow is dimming now so that the silver can shine through. I will probably have to always use bottled water on my hair, but I have sort of gotten used to it. And now I don’t have to pay my hair dresser to use toner on my hair every few months!

  2. I always enjoy seeing the favorites, although they might not be my favorites, it’s always fun. I like reading the comments, too!
