How I Really Dressed for My Day This Week

Oh my goodness. My heart overflows! I had the most wonderful 60th birthday weekend with my family. Of course I enjoyed my sweet 10-week-old granddaughter all weekend, but I am equally grateful for the presence of my daughter and son-in-law and my son and daughter-in-law. They and James all made my entire weekend so special. So while I didn’t respond to the birthday wishes on my Instagram feed post or YouTube video, I want you sweet ladies to know that I read them all and your sweet wishes came true. Thank you for your kindness. And now it’s time for me to show you how I dressed for my day recently.

I actually wore the same outfits I photographed for blog posts and videos a lot last week, so I didn’t have that many to share for Friday. That’s why we waited until today to post them here. Remember, these are my real life outfits with items from my closet. I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds. I wear mediums, and 8-10. I’ll let you know if something runs big or small; otherwise assume it is true to size (TTS). I’ll also disclose if something was gifted to me with a (c/o).

What I Wore to Church Sunday

Last Sunday I carried breakfast to church, so that explains the flour on my pants leg below. Ha! I promise you, I saw it in the photo right after I took it and used a damp cloth to get it off before going out the door. Good thing I snapped the photo. Ha!

My church is very casual, and I’m always a little more dressed up than everyone else, even in an outfit like this one. But I felt nicely pulled together that day, and I loved wearing this combo. Several readers had said they preferred vests worn over button up shirts rather than t-shirts (which I frequently wear with them). So I tried it…and I liked it! The cargo pants run large; I’m wearing a size 8 with a very roomy fit.

By the way, these pieces are from Me+Em, a London brand I’ve really fallen in love with. The quality of their pieces is pretty amazing. The prices are not inexpensive, but I love the classic, timeless styles with a modern spin. I’m doing a collaboration with them next month, and I’m so excited about it.

Flannel Wide Leg Pants & Cotton Sweater

I’m not sure what day this was last week, but I know this was a cozy work from home outfit. I really love these soft Italian flannel pants. So I paired them with a cotton fisherman sweater and sneakers.

The fisherman sweater is a nice length that doesn’t require me to tuck, so I can wear it out. The outfit looks a little boxy, but I wasn’t going anywhere this day. I’m frequently asked what I wear at home for just a “normal day,” and this is a good example. I felt dressed and polished, but I didn’t necessarily worry about proportions or a lot of styling.

Work from Home Jeans Outfit

Here’s another work from home outfit that feels very much like something I can wear easily and happily on a “normal day.” These jeans are very comfortable and run TTS.

The pink button down is just about sold out, but you could duplicate this cheerful outfit with any colored button-up shirt.

New Favorite Jeans

My “favorite jeans” are always changing, I must confess. But this week I wore these Levi’s straight leg jeans at least twice and I’m tempted to put them on again. They are extremely comfortable and soft. And the fit is generous. I’m wearing a 10, but they’re a little big on me.

The straight leg jeans are not extremely high-waisted, and they still work very nicely with my baby blue cropped sweatshirt. It is also a true favorite, so soft and cozy.

What I Wore to the Mall

Last Friday, Abigail and I took baby Hannah for her first shopping trip. Ha! She did splendidly. The whole shopping trip worked around the “mother’s room” at Nordstrom so that Abby could feed sweet Hannah. That little trick kept her so happy and pleasant for our quick trip. We weren’t there long of course, but it was nice to get out and about with her.

The weather was balmy that day, so this cotton fisherman sweater (more economical option) and jeans worked really nicely. I put on my trench coat before leaving, but then removed it. That day was my birthday, too. So we also all went out for Mexican food that evening. So fun!

What I Wore for the Family Gathering

Saturday Daniel and Stephanie and their dog Cooper joined our number. We celebrated with a yummy lunch from Chicken Salad Chick and birthday cake. We played board games and watched a University of Arizona basketball game. My kids and Stephanie all went to UofA for their undergrad degrees, and we’re all big college basketball watchers. It was such a fun day.

I kept comfortable for our day at home with those new “favorite jeans” and a white tank and pink button-up shirt. I wore my sneakers (similar sneakers) with my grey Bombas socks.

What I Wore to Church Sunday

Sunday, Abigail and her family were supposed to go home, but they decided to stay an extra day. I wanted to look casual but pulled together for our home church gathering, so I wore my black Southampton pants with a white Henley tee and cashmere hoodie jacket (more economical option).

I completed the outfit with a black belt and my Nike sneakers. I carried my new Veronica Beard shoulder bag. This is probably my favorite outfit of the week. Everything here runs true to size.

Well, that’s a wrap. It was a wonderful week and weekend with my kids coming in. We go to Georgia in just under two weeks for Hannah’s baby dedication at church. So, while I’m a little sad that the festivities with family are all over, I do have that to look forward to.

Blessed for My Day

There’s just something about gathering with friends and or family and enjoying a time of laughter, good conversation and yummy food. It’s so sweet to the soul when we can make happy, pleasant memories together. We’re not a perfect family. We have our differences and don’t see eye-to-eye on everything. And that’s why I always prepare for family gatherings with lots of prayer. Ha! Do you do that, too?

But when those prayers are answered and you share hours of kind conversation, laughter and love, you feel all the more blessed. Those warm feelings stay with you and the memories are priceless. Indeed, you realize in times like that how blessed you are. Today I’m thanking the Lord over and over and over for the sweet weekend we had.

Behold, how good and pleasant it is
    when brothers dwell in unity!
It is like the precious oil on the head,
    running down on the beard,
on the beard of Aaron,
running down on the collar of his robes!
It is like the dew of Hermon,
which falls on the mountains of Zion!
For there the Lord has commanded the blessing,
    life forevermore. ~ Psalm 133:1-3

xoxo, Kay

  1. This was my birthday weekend too! It was beyond wonderful for me. My family joined us for pulled pork sandwiches with the works. Everyone was in a joyful mood. I love having my family over.
Btw, I am joining Shelly Wildman for her Provence trip, my daughter is going with me. You have influenced me more than you know!

  2. I am so glad you had a good birthday!!! You look great in all the outfits you show. I hope this year will be a wonderful one and that God will bless your work and play tremendously!

  3. Hey Kay. So happy your birthday weekend was such a special one!
Julie, you and your daughter will love the trip to France with Shelly! My trip to London in August with Shelly was fabulous. It will definitely be a special trip for you both!

  5. I agree! That particular vest looks fabulous with a button down shirt…nice outfit! You are rockin 60 with these sharp, casual outfits! Steady on in Jesus!

  6. P.S. Loved your formal dress cruise post! I still think the, now narrowed down, first pink dress looks just lovely on you…slimming in body and arms, lovely color. I believe you could still wear this to dressier weddings.

  7. Kay, you look so happy and pretty (always) in these photos. The outfits seem just right! And your birthday weekend with your children is the home run!
    So happy for you!

  8. Happy birthday, Kay! It sounds like you had a lovely time with family. I’m late with an opinion on your special dress for the cruise. I think the berry red dress is smashing on you! You look so elegant! But I can understand why that would he a special occasion only dress. The black and white DVF wrap dress (midi length) is a classic and I think you would love it and wear it more often than any of the other dresses. All of the other maxi dresses are beautiful (I love the reversible one best), but I don’t think any of them are authentic to you and your personal style. So any of them would be great for the cruise, but I don’t think you would wear any of them much in your regular life. Anyway, that’s my two cents! I am sure you will love whatever you pick and will have an absolutely fantastic time on your cruise!
