June 25, 2020

Hello, dear gal! Welcome to Dressed for My Day. Today I’m rounding up the mirror selfies I’ve taken this month of the outfits I’ve really worn. I always enjoy these posts because they give me the opportunity to evaluate my wardrobe in light of what I’m really gravitating to and what’s going unworn. I hope you enjoy the style inspiration as we look at “how I really dressed for my day” during the month of June.

How I Really Dressed for My Day Recently

While these are not all of the outfits I’ve worn in the past three weeks, they’re definitely representative of them. Like many of you, I repeat outfits a lot, especially if I enjoy wearing them. I live a pretty casual lifestyle, especially during this pandemic. I always work from home anyhow, but I still try to get “dressed for my day” each and every day as a form of self-motivation, an expression of joy and a way of being ready to head out the door at a moment’s notice.

I think you’ll notice that I very much gravitate to comfortable pieces, but I try to elevate each look with some accessories and a style hack or two.

Style tip: You might enjoy my YouTube video, Summer Style Hacks, if you’re searching for ways to elevate your simple summer looks.

Cropped Commuter Pants & Animal Print Tee

Right out of the gate, I’m pretty sure I’ve worn this outfit or some variation thereof at least half a dozen times this month. I love, love, love these wide leg cropped commuter pants.

wide leg cropped commuter pants // They’re made of the softest, lightest Featherweight Stretch™ fabric, and they feel oh so cool. Temperature-wise that is! Although I will say, I feel pretty cool wearing them, too. Ha! I’m wearing my TTS medium.

Really Dressed Outfit 1
similar animal print t-shirt from same brand // Brooklyn Wide Leg Crop Pants // substitute teardrop earrings // black flip flops

My animal print shirt is from last summer, but Banana Republic, which is where I got this one, has several similar options this year. Y’all. Snag one of these! I get so many compliments on this t-shirt and I wear it all. the. time. It’s one of my best purchases from last year for sure. And I love all of the options I’m sharing in the shopping widget. They’re all marked down, too.

black flip flops // I originally wanted these Sperry Adriatic thongs in the brown, but I’m so glad I got the black now. They work beautifully with these and other commuter pants. They run true to size and they feel amazing on. I wear them all day, most every day. They’re 25% off.

Jeans & Sleeveless Print Shirt

Unless I tell you otherwise, I simply wore each of these outfits at home for a normal work day. I may have run out to the post office or to return something to Nordstrom, but otherwise I just worked from my home office in these ankle jeans and pretty sleeveless shirt.

Really Dressed 2
ankle jeans // floral garden perfect shirt // multi-strap sandals in geranium pink // bangle // earrings

ankle jeans // these run true to size and have a high waist band. I’m wearing a size 8, while I sometimes wear a 6 in Talbots’ stretchier jeans. I’m debating cutting these off because I feel like they’re a little long for an ankle jean and obviously short for a full-length jean. Thoughts?

floral garden perfect shirt // I’m wearing a true to size 8 in this soft and easy to pair sleeveless shirt. It’s 97% Cotton, 3% Spandex so it comes out of the dryer or from the hanging rack pretty much ready to be worn. I think I simply went over it quickly with my steamer.

multi-strap sandals in geranium pink // I always enjoy having a pair of colored sandals in my summer wardrobe and I had to let go of the pink ones I’d worn for years last summer. So I replaced them with these multi-strap sandals in geranium pink. They fit true to size but may be too narrow if your foot is at all wide.

Fun Embroidered Tee

You may recognize this Sunshine on My Mind embroidered tee and bright papaya relaxed 7″ chino shorts from my Summer Beach Vacation Wardrobe video. While both are still fully stocked, the t-shirt is not marked down right now. But the 7″ chino shorts are available for a great price.

Orange Shorts and Tee
Sunshine on My Mind embroidered tee // bright papaya relaxed 7″ chino shorts // raffia trim Napa belt // Howell Lace-Up Sneaker // bangle // earrings

Sunshine on My Mind embroidered tee // I’m wearing a small, so consider sizing down. I’ve laundered it and it did fine; however, I did not put it in the dryer.

bright papaya relaxed 7″ chino shorts // I’m wearing my TTS 8 and they fit very comfortably. These hit just below the waist and are 98% Cotton; 2% Spandex. The website suggests not drying these, and I’d agree. Right now these and other colors are available for more than 50% off.

raffia trim Napa belt // I’m wearing my TTS medium in this darling and versatile belt. It’s also available in white with blue raffia trim.

Howell Lace-Up Sneaker // These sneakers are a little pricey, but among the several pair I own, these are definitely my favorites. I usually show my cheaper pairs when I’m featuring them in outfits here on the blog. But these are the ones I wear day in and day out. They fit true to size and are also available in all white or with orange trim.

I also wore the Sunshine on My Mind embroidered tee with these fun loose-fitting jeans one day when it was a little cooler. I’d been wanting some jeans with a more relaxed fit, so when these arrived in a recent Trunk Club trunk, I snagged them.

Really Dressed 6
Sunshine on My Mind embroidered tee // Madewell The Curvy Perfect Vintage High Waist Jeans // Howell Lace-Up Sneaker // earrings

Madewell The Curvy Perfect Vintage High Waist Jeans // I’m not sure these jeans are supposed to fit this loosely, but that’s how I want them. I’m all for most of my jeans fitting snugly, but I just think a gal needs one pair that fits loose for comfort and a purely laid back vibe. What do you think? These are my usual size 29, but the website does say they run large and to size down. So if you want a more fitted look, size down. But if you want something like I’ve got going on here, just probably stick with your regular size. These jeans are 100% cottons so they have no stretch in them.

That same day I added this pretty pink sweatshirt when I sat out on our back deck in the evening. Evidently this color is sold out, but it’s available in a soft coral.

Heathered Sweatshirt // Sunshine on My Mind embroidered tee // Madewell The Curvy Perfect Vintage High Waist Jeans // Howell Lace-Up Sneaker // earrings

Heathered Sweatshirt // I’m wearing a true to size medium in this sweatshirt for a very comfortable fit. It’s loose enough to wear a tee under it, but not so loose that it looks baggy. It’s only available in coral buff now. I think a pretty sweatshirt like this is such a nice addition to a summer wardrobe for cool mornings and evenings or travelling to cooler climates.

Venture Pants & White Tee

I’m finding that I tend to wear structured pieces for a couple of days and then I switch back to these lightweight travel pants and tees. I just can’t resist the featherweight fabric and the easy fit coupled with the really modern silhouettes of these types of pants. They’re just fun to wear.

Really Dressed 4
Venture Pant in blue star // Supima Cotton V-Neck T-Shirt // Howell Lace-Up Sneaker

Venture Pant in blue star // These lightweight ankle pants run true to size; I’m wearing an 8. They are perfect for traveling, which is what I bought them for. But I can’t resist wearing them for everyday wear, too. One of the reasons I like wearing pants like these when I work at home is because then I’m more prone to lace up my sneakers and get out for a walk when I’m done with my work…or even during lunch. The Venture Pants come in several other colors, too.

Supima Cotton V-Neck T-Shirt // This is my all-time favorite t-shirt. I wear a small in the white and black, but a medium in the grey, which I purchased later. So it may be that the sizing has changed since I bought the white and black tees. Check sizing recommendations on the website. But highly recommend these tees, and they’re currently 42% off.

Striped Cotton Sweater & Denim Shorts

Here’s another look from my YouTube Video, What to Pack for Your Summer Beach Vacation.

Really Dressed 5
girlfriend denim shorts in Miller wash // stripe cotton v-neck sweater // Espadrille Look Flip Flop in rosy garden picnic // bangle // earrings // necklace no longer available

girlfriend denim shorts in Miller wash // I’m wearing my TTS 8 in these denim shorts. They’re sold out in all but a few sizes, but they’re marked down considerably. If your size is sold out in these, then check out the same shorts in the darker Ryder wash for the same low price.

stripe cotton v-neck sweater // This comfortable, soft, lightweight sweater runs a tad large. I’m wearing a small, but could probably wear a medium for a roomier fit. I don’t need to wear any kind of camisole under it and the multi-colored stripes make it so versatile. This stripe cotton v-neck sweater is marked down 60%!!!

Espadrille Look Flip Flop in rosy garden picnic // Aren’t these flip flops darling? I got them when they were buy one get one free. But if you like them, “favorite” them in the shopping widget for a sale notification. They’d be a great gift, too. Oh and they run true to size. I’m wearing a large and I have a 9.5 foot.

Black Lantern Top & Face Mask

Well, I guess I went somewhere in this outfit! Ha! And I guess I decided to share with you how nicely my Vera Bradley face mask coordinates with my otherwise neutrals look.

Really Dressed 8
Vera Bradley face mask // black silky cotton lantern top // railroad stripe 9″ perfect shorts // black flip flops // Elissa Gold Multi-Strand Necklace

black silky cotton lantern top // This is the same top I wore in yesterday’s YouTube video, How to Be the Most Beautiful Woman in the Room. It has turned out to be an unexpected favorite for both spring and summer. And I absolutely know I will wear it into the fall, too, especially during those transitional weeks. It’s marked down 30% and still available in black. But you can also get it in half a dozen other colors, including a blue and white stripe. In fact, I very well may order another one or two. I’m wearing a size 6, so size down. By the way, the photo does not do it justice. It is extremely soft and luxurious feeling.

Vera Bradley face mask // I don’t think this particular pattern is available right now, but I do love the slightly looser than normal fit of these Vera Bradley face masks. You can also purchase an optional mask filter two-pack. Anyhow, the Vera Bradley face masks come in a number of pretty patterns which make wearing one of these a little less unbearable. And they’re a reasonable $8.

railroad stripe 9″ perfect shorts // These 9″ shorts are sold out in many sizes, but they’re only $24.50. I love them for the versatility and easy TTS fit. I’m wearing an 8.

Denim Tie-Hem Top

I ordered this denim tie-hem top during the recent Talbots sale and I’ve been playing with it non-stop. Just like a traditional chambray top, this denim tie-hem top is so very versatile.

Really Dressed 9
denim tie-hem top // 7″ chino shorts in cafe // leopard print slides // Elissa Gold Multi-Strand Necklace // earrings

denim tie-hem top // I got my TTS medium in this top, and at first I feared it was a little big. But they’ve added a thin line of elastic at the bottom in the back half of the shirt, so that really helps it fit nicely. It does have a longer silhouette, so be prepared for the hem to hit mid hip. Because of the elasticized waist, you can also tuck the ties up in the shirt if you prefer. The denim tie-hem top also comes in petite, plus and petite plus sizes.

7″ chino shorts in cafe // I’ve styled these shorts several times here at Dressed for My Day. You might want to check out how I styled them in this post and this post. They run true to size and are marked down more than 50%.

leopard print slides // I bought these darling slides last summer, but they’re available again this year. They run a bit large on my foot, but I wear them anyhow. So you might want to size down a half size.

And here’s another look with the denim tie-hem top.

Really Dressed 14
denim tie-hem top // fruit & flowers crop pants // Tory Burch Miller Flip Flop (more economical option)

fruit & flowers crop pants // These darling pants are also extremely comfortable. Made of 98% Cotton, 2% Spandex, they have just enough stretch to move with you but not so much as to stretch out in unseemly ways. You can see all the ways I styled them in this previous post, How to Style Floral Pants and Look Chic…Not Childish. These crop pants also come in curvy fit, as well as petite sizes in both. I’m wearing a regular misses 8. They’re marked down more than 50%.

Tory Burch Miller Flip Flop // I purchased these when they were on significant sale, but I was still skeptical. In fact, I kept them in the box for the longest time. But I find myself reaching for them often simply because the nude color (makeup) works so well with everything. And when I don’t want to wear metallic or animal print or a bold color, these are the best option. They run slightly large.

Hiking Outfit

Okay, here’s something I definitely wore out of the house. I wore these Columbia separates when James and I did a little hiking Friday. All of these pieces are old, but they’re still available. Of course, I didn’t hike in the flip flops, but I wore them after the hike.

Really Dressed 11
Columbia Saturday trail skort // Columbia Silver Ridge Light Sleeveless Shirt // Columbia hat // black flip flops

Columbia Saturday trail skort // I’m wearing a TTS 8 in this comfort stretch trail skort with an inner stretch short. You can get it in additional colors here. But right now it’s 25% off at Columbia in black only. I love wearing it for hiking, but it works well for everyday wear, too.

Columbia Silver Ridge Light Sleeveless Shirt //My shirt is actually a few years old now, but these are similar. They’re available in some great colors, too. And they are also 25% off.

Columbia hat // Again, my lime green hat is several years old and no longer available. But the same hat is available in a pretty blue. And, you guessed it, it’s 25% off.

What I Wore to Church

Yes, I actually went to church Sunday…for the first time in three months. Wow! I’m not sure I’ll get to go back this week. We’re having to limit the number of attendees and I don’t want to hog more than my turn. Anyhow, I wore the same thing I shared in Tuesday’s post, Elegant & Effortless Summer Neutrals.

Really Dressed 13
Organic Linen Ankle Straight Leg Pant // white embroidered shirt // similar gold sandals // straw clutch // white enamel bangle // necklace no longer available (beautiful substitute) // earrings

Organic Linen Ankle Straight Leg Pant // I have these pants in a TTS medium. Yeah, I might could have worn the small. But I really wanted an oversized fit here. Check yesterday’s post for more options.

white embroidered shirt // I sure do wish this pretty, feminine blouse would go back on sale. Undoubtedly it will soon. So if you’re interested, “favorite” it in the shopping widget for a sale update. I’m wearing a size medium. You can also see how I styled it with the floral pants above here.

Sorry, no widget for this look.

Chelsea Utility Wide Leg Pants

Again, I don’t think this photo does these Chelsea Utility Wide Leg Pants justice. They are so blasted fun! And uber comfortable.

Chelsea Utility Wide Leg Pants // graphic tee no longer available – similar option // flip flops // coin necklace // French wire twirl earrings

Chelsea Utility Wide Leg Pants // I’m wearing a TTS 8 in these wide leg pants comfortably. They’re created in that amazing Recycled Featherweight Stretch™ fabric that feels silky sleek and light as air. I’ll definitely be wearing these for travel, but why wait! This is what I wore yesterday.

Blessed for My Day

In the comments after yesterday’s video, several people mentioned that a beautiful woman is one who doesn’t participate in gossip. Not only that, some even added that a beautiful woman graciously steers the conversation away from gossip. It’s one thing not to participate in gossip usually. But it takes courage and wisdom to be able to put an end to it once the conversation has headed down that slippery slope. Wouldn’t you agree?

Let’s commit today to be courageous women who end slanderous or even suspicious talk as soon as it starts. Let’s learn how to discern between genuine concern or harmless information and gossip. Really, that line is not so fine. More often than not we shouldn’t talk about other people at all…unless it’s completely kind, celebratory, affirming or appreciative of the other person. You and I can make a big difference if we’ll learn to stop gossip before it spreads.

He who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets, Therefore do not associate with a gossip. ~ Proverbs 20:19

  1. What a fun post, Kay! I really enjoy seeing what you actually wear because it gives me ideas. You look so nice with your hair in a ponytail! That’s how I’m wearing my hair every day due to the heat and humidity. Regarding the cropped jeans, I would try cuffing them so that more of the narrowest part of your ankle shows. You don’t know how bad I want the stripped sweater from Talbots, but I placed a Loft order earlier this week, so I must refrain. I hope that you and a James have a wonderful visit with your son!

  2. Wonderful post as always! You look great in all of the outfits. Thanks for sharing.
I appreciate the BFMD post as well. Gossip is an unbecoming practice for all of us. Praise, sincere congratulations, and kind words build us up. That’s what my goal is. I love encouraging others.
    Have a blessed day!
    Suzanne

  3. Love the “what I actually wear” posts. Per the released hem straight leg ankle pants, try them with your Tory Birch flip flops in the “skin” shade or a lower vamp shoe. Don’t sacrifice the intentional released hem, as I’m assuming that is what appealed to you in the first place. Another possible option would be to exchange them for the petite version. Just my two cents, as I’m in that in between height of petite and regular with so many lower body items.

  4. I love all of these outfits. I need to tweak a bit to copy as in pants instead of shorts but they inspire me. I love the color of the pink sweatshirt and the chambray shirt outfits are on my list to try.
I know a woman at church who is nice but blurts out whatever she’s thinking about someone. My friend says she need a filter on her mouth. I think we all probably do at times.

  5. Love your looks and you gave me the idea to start wearing tops with stripes. I found a lightweight sweater almost identical to the one you are wearing, It has white, bright pink, black, and several shades of grey. It is on clearance at Christopher and Banks. I also got another top with small stripes that is so cute and comfortable. Thanks for your ideas and scriptures. ?

  6. I look forward to these fun posts…and, copying some of your looks with things I have in my closet. Mexican Street Corn Salad? Any chance you’d share the recipe or the link? We’ve got family coming a couple of times next month and I’ve been looking for something a little different to serve. Enjoy your weekend!
