Well it’s Friday, so it’s time for me to share my daily outfits. But it’s also the dog days of summer, and I feel like maybe you’ve seen all of this. Then again, I do have at least one new item in the lineup, so stay with me!

Sizing Information

Just for reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155. I generally wear a size 8 or medium in dresses, tops, jackets and pants (or 29 or 30 in jeans), so that’s what I’m wearing in these looks unless I tell you otherwise. That way you can assume everything I show you is true to size unless I alert you to sizing up or down. I wear a size 9.5 shoe and, again, I’ll just let you know if I sized up or down in a shoe, otherwise it’s true to size.

What I Wore Friday

Whenever I want to feel comfortable and cool, but also look a little pulled together, I find myself reaching for linen this summer. Linen pants have become my “summer shorts” of 2021. And I think I’ve become one of those women who just don’t wear shorts a lot anymore. Maybe some of that is because I do actually have an “office job.” That office just happens to be in my home. But I feel a little more professional when I choose something like this rather than shorts and a t-shirt.

what I wore Friday
seersucker lantern pants //  sandals (more economical option) // earrings (only in silver) // organic linen and cotton shirt (size down) // necklace // similar bracelet

I don’t have a shopping widget for this look because it’s gotten to where most of the items I’m showing in each outfit are offered through different affiliate programs. But you can always shop through the pink highlighted words. They’ll lead you straight to the item at the place where I’ve found the best price.

By the way, if you shop Eileen Fisher, which is what both my seersucker lantern pants and my organic linen and cotton shirt  are, generally size down. I’m wearing a small in both. Oh, and one of my friends with whom I eat lunch each Thursday recently purchased the more economical option sandals that I generally share with the Eileen Fisher sandals above, and she loves them. She said they’re very comfortable, and they looked great on her.

How I Dressed for Saturday

I think Saturday was one of those days when I never really got dressed, other than workout clothes. I got out for a good long walk and then spent some time cleaning. But that evening James took me out to a very nice dinner to celebrate having 10,000 Instagram followers. Yippee! And thank you!

what I wore saturday
Frame Le Sylvie straight leg raw edge jeans (still available in the #NSale) // everything else no longer available

We went out to eat at a nearby farm to table restaurant and dined outside. We were having unusually mild weather at the time, just in the high 70s during the day. So it was perfect eating outdoors. I felt festive and comfortable in my Frame Le Sylvie straight leg raw edge jeans, white tee and silk kimono. I finished the outfit off with metallic sandals. Nothing in this outfit is available any longer, other than the Frame Le Sylvie straight leg raw edge jeans, which are amazingly still available in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. But after Sunday these jeans will go up to well over $200.

The Frame jeans run true to size (check the chart) and are fairly lightweight, very soft and the perfect premium denim jean to try in the new silhouette.

What I Wore Sunday

Saturday evening I watched two couples arrive at the table next to ours and both of the women were wearing black dresses with denim jackets and sandals. I got the feeling they didn’t plan to dress alike, but both of them looked beautiful and perfectly attired for a summertime double date. So Sunday morning I decided to replicate the look for church.

what I wore Sunday
denim jacket // black wrap dress // neutral sandals (more economical option) // pearl and conch shell duo // pearl hoops // black hobo bag (more economical option)

I knew the denim jacket would serve me well in our air conditioned church sanctuary. And my black wrap dress is always a favorite. It’s silky soft, oh so comfortable and very flattering on most any body shape. The wrap dress is still available in limited sizes and marked down. Plus right now you’ll get an extra 50% off the sale price. They’re practically giving it away.

I finished the look with neutral sandals (more economical option) and dainty jewelry. I’ve really enjoyed my pearl and conch shell duo (sold separately) from Rachelyn Jewelry. And that day I even wore my Rachelyn pearl hoops. Rachel makes such dainty, feminine pieces. Remember, she gives my Dressed for My Day community 10% off with code KAYHARMS.

How I Dressed for My Day Monday

Monday I spent a good chunk of the day trying on clothes for a photo shoot that evening. So I don’t think I ever really settled on one thing to wear that day. But after the photo shoot I ended up in this outfit, which I wore out to eat dinner. I’m glad I’m sharing it here because this darling Rise & Shine t-shirt from Sadie + Jane is almost sold out. I introduced Sadie + Jane in yesterday’s post.

what I wore Monday
Relaxed Everyday Jeans // Rise & Shine tee (use code KAYHARMS for 10% off your order) // ReNew sport sandals // relaxed fatigue blazer // necklace // earrings // leather band bracelet (use code KAYHARMS for 10% off your order) // watch (use code KAYHRMS for 15% off your order)

I think you’ll see this dusky blue tee styled differently in the next week or two, but for dinner after our photo shoot I wore it with my Talbots Relaxed Everyday jeans (which I LOVE) and my fatigue blazer from Everlane. I’m wearing a medium in the Rise & Shine tee (use code KAYHARMS for 10% off your order) for a generous fit. For a more slender fit, you could size down.

I really liked how this blue tee combined with my Relaxed Everyday jeans to create a column of blue under my walnut colored fatigue blazer. And I think the black ReNew sport sandals add a sporty vibe.

By the way, I’m wearing my TTS 8 in these jeans. I tried on the 6 yesterday and they fit, too, but with a more slender cut. So I think if you want the jeans to have a true relaxed look, go with your usual size and prepare for them to feel quite roomy. Or for a more slender silhouette, size down and prepare for a fit more like your skinny jeans. Either way, I love these jeans. Talbots did a great job with them.

What I Wore Wednesday

I guess Tuesday was one of those video editing days when I never really got dressed in anything worth recording. Ha! But on Wednesday I wore the t-shirt I featured in yesterday’s post to an evening Bible study my husband is teaching on Revelation. Oh my I just noticed that you ladies purchased all of those tees yesterday. It’s sold out! But you can give them your email address to be notified when it is restocked. I think this tee is great, but I really love that the colors work so well for early fall.

what I wore Wednesday
t-shirt (sold out, but you can give an email address to be notified of restocks) // jeans (almost sold out; similar in widget) // blazer // P448 sneakers (more economical option) // earrings // leather band bracelet (use code KAYHARMS for 10% off your order)

There’s that blazer again, too. It’s only available in a few sizes at this point. But this fatigue blazer is going to be a great fall topper. I wore it a lot this spring, too. I finished off the look with my P448 sneakers (more economical option) that I purchased in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. By the way, I’ll be sharing one final Nordstrom Anniversary Sale post this afternoon (Friday). The sale ends Sunday, and I’m sharing some last minute finds that I purchased.

How I Dressed for My Day Thursday

Yesterday I got out for lunch with friends, a try-on session at Talbots and some other errands. While our temperatures started out very mild at the beginning of the week, it’s heated up now. So I kept cool in my linen lantern pants, my Good Days tee and a breezy ruana. None of this (except for my ReNew sport sandals) is available anymore, but I snapped a photo so you could see how I really dressed for my day.

what I wore Thursday
only the ReNew sport sandals are available

Well, that’s a wrap! I want to finish this post up so I can move on to some other work I have for the day. But if you have any questions I left unanswered, please let me know in the comments below. I’ll keep an eye on them today so I can get back to you with a quick response. Thank you so much for dropping in!

Blessed for My Day

I’m not a huge sweets eater…until I’ve had sugar for a day or two in a row. Then I tend to become quickly addicted. Whether it’s the desire to have something sweet after dinner or the compulsion to grab a cookie or two in the afternoons, I can easily get into a bad habit of eating sugar everyday. And my body just can’t handle that. Not only do I pack on the fat, but my joints start aching pretty miserably.

Today I’m determined to do the hard work of breaking this habit…yet again! This morning I came across a familiar scripture that spoke afresh to me in my fight against this craving. I’m putting this scripture to memory and reminding myself throughout the day to do the hard work of “standing firm” so that I don’t have to be a slave to sugar. Do you need to break free…again…from a habit or hangup? You might want to join me in standing firm in the freedom Christ has purchased for you.

It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. ~ Galatians 5:1

Spread the love
xoxo, Kay

  1. Oh how I know the story of the sweet tooth! I always say “I don’t have a sweet tooth, they’re all sweet!”. I have been logging my food on Fitness Pal for over a month…the longest I’ve stayed with it and it’s working! I save calories for evening so I can have my sweets. It works for me and I don’t feel deprived! Good luck..you can do it ?

  2. Kay, I know about that sweet tooth. Once I start eating sugar, it’s hard to stop. I’ve managed to loose 20 lbs recently by cutting out the sweets and processed carbs. What works for me is to have unsweetened full fat Greek yogurt and the yogurts that are low sugar without artificial sweeteners. This really takes the desire to eat sweets away. Don’t try to just use will power, find a good substitute. Good luck and know there will be times that you’re not perfect, and just get right back on it and love yourself .

  3. I too have A Sweet tooth And I have been trying to be better about that. Keeps the
Pounds on. My husband is worse so they are in the house makes it harder.
    Thanks for the verse
I see you wore jeans a lot more this week I have been wearing my white pants before I gets where I have to put them aside a little bit more. Also Skirts shorts and dresses. Don’t want to give up The
Summer clothes yet. I have to ease into jeans for the fall.

  4. Thanks for sharing that verse. I hadn’t considered it in that context. I think I’ll put it in my pantry! I would love a tutorial on how you do your hair when you wear it curly. So, so cute!

  5. I really appreciate how you look neat and put together even when casual.
Ive always said I’ll never wear animal print and then I was browsing at Chico’s (because you’ve mentioned them) for animal print. I saw tortoiseshell! I never thought of that as an animal print. But since I have tortoiseshell earrings, I figured I already wear animal print so the barrier is broken.
For the fall, will we need to replace all our great ankle and crop pants?
    Thanks for the encouragement!

    1. Hi Karen. Good for you! Ha! No, you can still wear cropped and ankle length pants in the fall. We’ll just have to work on shoe choices. I’ll be talking about that in tomorrow’s email and in an upcoming blog post. ?

  6. I like what you wore this past week, Kay! The saying, ye who hesitates loses, fits me now because I did not go to the new site you introduced us to, to order the tee. I will visit them today and see what I can find. Oh, I now have a pair of P448 high top sneakers, and I know why you and Jo-Lynne Shane praise their comfort so much. Thank goodness for the NAS or I would have never tried them. If you can do a tutorial on how to fix the laces, I sure would appreciate it. Have a fabulous weekend!

  7. Are you aware that your picture is on the SadieandJane site? It’s a great picture of you! I also have a sweet tooth and would like to lose it. I need to write that scripture down, place it in numerous spots, and memorize it.

  8. Love your “what I really wore” posts! But today your sale alerts caught my eye and I purchased the 10 pairs of panties for $40 from Soma! After just losing almost 20 pounds since January, I really needed to treat myself to the next smaller size!! Yay! I tried to find some that were close to my skintone, but also had to purchase a few fun prints as well! Thanks for the heads up!

  9. I have the same thing about sugar or sweet treats. In my 20’s my sister-in-law had a saying that I’ve tried to remember and be aware: “One sugar treat demands another”
Before I took the 5 year journey to loose 60 lbs., I came to the conclusion that I was unable to control the eating urges and that they were controlling me. With the Lord’s reminder to turn away from certain foods, I got there. However, always I must be aware that there is a path I do not want to turn down. Instead, keep following God’s path he’s shown me.
I do have a question: The black dress you wore on Sunday, will they be getting that back in more sizes, do you think? I like the length of that, but sadly, not many sizes are left.
Thanks Kay for all your help, I’m so glad that I found your videos about 9 months ago–a great blessing to me.

    1. Hi Jane. Thanks so much for sharing. I’m working really hard to stay disciplined in this. I just got back from the grocery store and brought only wholesome healthy food. ? At first I thought no, they wouldn’t restock that dress. But then I noticed that the almond colored one is marked final sale whereas the black one is not. So maybe they will restock it. If not I bet they’ll come out with something similar because it’s such a classic design.

  10. I have a sugar addiction and I get achy too! I broke it by going on a complete sugar fast. No sweeteners, fruit or sugar for a month will completely change your taste buds and stop the craving. I think I also stayed away from flour products and starchy vegetables. (It was awhile ago that I did this). I’m not saying it goes away completely, but it helped me a lot. Everything seems too sweet now. I can’t drink soda anymore-too sweet and acid. I drink Perrier with lime and I love it now. For me it took total avoidance to lessen the cravings. I am not saying I never have a treat, but the addiction is easier to handle.

  11. Another source for graphic tees that are more appropriate for our age group is Life is Good tee shirts. I have several and they wash well and do not shrink. The graphics are fun and cover a wide range of subjects. Just a thought.

  12. I am new to your videos and blogs but they feel to me like streams in the desert! I am 65 and work in full time ministry in an urban setting among women in substance abuse recovery. I just am so blessed by the concept of being an influencer!! I want to reflect the love of the God I serve and His Gospel in all I do and say and while I have always maintained a classic look throughout my lifetime, aging and a pandemic which has made in store shopping more difficult along with many stressful factors have taken a toll on my life and my wardrobe. I now feel energized and excited to refresh the wardrobe for the body I have now. I am an influencer!!!! Thank you dear sister for being such an inspiration to me.

    1. Wonderful! Welcome Nancy. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the videos and blogs. Indeed, you are an influential woman. Every woman has the ability to be one. Thank you for showing up!

  13. Thank you Kay. I have been reading more of your blogs and posts and was excited to see that you have been a Precept leader too. I have been teaching Preceot Bible Studies for over 26 years in my church. I just purchased your book on a Christian world view to enjoy but also to preview as potential use in ministry. The ladies I have been called to serve are void of this understanding and could also use some fashion help so we are going to all learn together how to trust God, believe in His Word and to influence others as we do. I am so happy to have found you!! Blessings and love to you from us all❤️

    1. Oh that is wonderful Nancy. I do love Precept Bible studies. It’s made studying the Bible so rich. Thank you for sharing and for your encouraging words. I hope you enjoy The View from My Front Porch. It was my first book to publish so I was wet behind the ears. But I do believe it’s a worthwhile study, especially in today’s world.
