It’s been quite a while since I last posted a How I Really Dressed for My Day post. I know a lot of readers enjoy these posts, and they definitely help keep me accountable to my own mantra. So today I’m returning to these weekly posts with some early spring outfits that I’ve worn over the past week.

How This Works

These are my real life outfits from my own closet. Many of these things are available, but some may not be. When I can locate one quickly I’ll share substitutes and/or more economical options. But if I don’t provide one and you’d like for me to, just ask. All available items are linked in the captions of the photos. Even if they don’t look like links (sometimes they don’t highlight for some reason), they generally are. So just click through if you’re interested.

What I Wore Shopping Last Friday

Last Friday I got out for a little shopping. Why does that seem like so long ago? Ha! The weather was quite cool, but I would be in and out of shops at an open mall, so I wanted to wear a jacket that was lightweight and also worked nicely with my outfit. But most importantly I wanted to wear these jeans. They have become my favorites!

shirt // jeans // belt // jacket (more economical option) // similar sneakers // purse

I get so many compliments on those jeans. I don’t think the photos or even the videos in which I’ve worn them do them justice. Seriously, in every store I went into someone asked me where I got my jeans. And that was while I was in stores that specialize in premium denim like Evereve and Anthropologie and Madewell. They fit true to size and are super comfortable, too. I’m also crazy about that linen shirt. I wear linen shirts at least a few times a week from spring through summer, so it’s going to be nice having this slightly different one in the lineup. It also comes in a short sleeve version. (Hold me back!)

What I Wore Around the House Saturday

Saturday I took a true day off. So often I end up working a bit on the weekend, but I’m trying to get better about completing my work by Friday evening. So I just hung around the house doing housework and resting a bit. My Spanx AirEssentials pieces were perfect for that.

AirEssentials half-zip // AirEssential wide leg pants // sneakers // earrings

I think I’ll be wearing these on the plane when we travel to Alaska for our cruise and back. I’ve heard people suggest taking something for lounging when you just want to be comfortable, so this set will serve well for travel and lounging. I also have the Oxford blue top, so I can swap that in here, too. By the way, Spanx carries the AirEssentials in a full range of sizes in regulars, petites and talls. I’m wearing the regular medium in both.

How I Dressed for Church Sunday

You know we are part of a small house church, so we all dress very casually. Sunday I wore some older white wide leg jeans from Veronica Beard with a super soft and lightweight cotton sweater from Alice Walk. It was below freezing when we left for church, but somehow it never seems quite as cold in the spring as it does in the winter at that temperature.

sweater // trench (similar alternative) // white jeans are several years old // loafers // earrings // necklace // purse is sold out

I completed the look with beige loafers. I have gotten so much wear out of these, and they’re quite affordable. I topped the outfit with my trench coat for to and fro.

Monday’s Work from Home Outfit

I don’t think I’ve mentioned, but the temperatures have been fairly cool all week. We wake up in the 20s or 30s most days and wind up in the high 50s by mid afternoon. So I’ve been reaching for soft, spring-like pants and cotton sweaters a lot. On this day I opted to break out my linen lantern pants and pair them with my cotton sweater from ME+EM. I live in this lantern pants in the summer, but I learned on this day that they work really well with a cotton sweater. Fun!

sweater // pants // loafers // earrings

I bookended the look with my ivory loafers. I was surprised also at how much I like the linen pants with loafers. Pretty cool I think.

What I Wore to the Movie Tuesday

Tuesday James and I took advantage of the discounted prices and took in a matinee of the movie Cabrini. I highly recommend it. The movie was a little disturbing in places, but the true story is inspiring and beautifully told.

vest // similar white tee // coat // pants // similar loafer // purse // necklace // earrings // bracelet

I generally wear jeans to movie theaters, but I was itching to wear my Maeve Colette pants…so I did. I topped them with a simple white tee and a cropped length sweater vest from Talbots. It was chilly, so I opted to wear my black loafers. I loved the way the outfit turned out, but I struggled a bit with what coat or jacket to wear. I considered my black trench, but that seemed like a lot of black. So I went with this black and ivory print mac from Talbots. I felt perfectly fine in the theater, but I did end up watching the movie with the jacket over my shoulders for the most part.

How I Dressed Wednesday

Wednesday I worked from home…as usual. Ha! I wanted to be comfortable but also dressed. I just do my best work when I’m pulled together.

similar black tee // pants // belt // similar sandals // earrings

So I topped my barrel pants from ME+EM with a simple, fitted black tee. I bookended the look with black sandals from a couple of years ago. But I can highly recommend the similar sandals linked above. I have those in cognac and you’ll see them below.

What I Wore to Work from Home Thursday

Thursday we shot videos for the next two weeks. So I was only in this outfit for a bit in the morning before the constant outfit changes began. But you will in fact see this Liberty of London print shirt in the April 10 video because I LOVE it.

floral blouse // jeans // belt // sandals // earrings

Of all the Frank & Eileen shirts I have, this one became my new favorite the minute I put it on. Amazingly soft and such a nice length – not too long, not too short. And I just love the cheerful Liberty print. I wore it with my Levi’s jeans (so comfortable!) and those new Everlane sandals, which are extremely comfortable and soft on the foot.

Thanks so much for stopping in. I’ll have another How I Really Dressed for My Day post for you next week. Now that we’re really into spring, it’s so much easier for me to actually wear the clothes I’ve been adding to my wardrobe – and fun! Have a lovely Good Friday and a meaningful and beautiful Easter.

Blessed for My Day

Today we reflect on the sacrifice made by Jesus on the cross for us. He paid the debt we could never pay. The Bible says – and life proves – that we are all sinners who repetitively miss the mark of God’s high standards. We could never be good enough to live forever in His heaven, much less have a relationship with a holy God. But because Jesus took on the sins of the world and died on that cross, we can have both: access to heaven and a daily, intimate relationship with God.

I’m thinking on these things today. I’m considering the chasm that once lay between me and a holy God because of my sin. And I’m shaking my head in amazement at the sacrifice made in order to bridge that gulf. What love! And I’m taking time to rejoice in the relationship I have with my Creator because of that gift. I know you’re doing the same.

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. ~ 2 Corinthians 5:21

  1. You looked so pretty and organized with your outfits this last week. I really liked the one from Thursday with the green slacks. I went shopping yesterday, which I rarely do, to find some spring clothes…….I feel like everything looked terrible on me, came home with nothing. Oh well. I just get confused and overwhelmed when I shop. Then the shops don’t have the sizes you want. Thank you for BFMD today your words are just perfect. I try hard to be a better person but I fail each day. Blessings to you and your family.

    1. Rory, please know how I feel you on your shopping experience! Those are not particularly uplifting days. May God bless you and I pray your next shopping day is accompanied by a good friend, is a fun time, and that you find just the right styles in just the right sizes to make you feel confident and comfortable to do what HE has in store for you to do!

  2. Good morning Kay! I loved what you wore to the movies! So sharp! And the outfit for church – well, I really liked all of the outfits – ha! Hope you have a great Easter day! Resurrection!

  3. Hi Kay , I’m so pleased the ‘How I really dressed for my day’ is back Yaaay 👌🏻🎉. You are really rocking those wide leg jeans ,your whole outfit looks good and no wonder they have become a favourite , and how lovely you got lots of compliments , I always think its important to go up to someone and tell them how good they look 👍🏻. Your Spanx airessentials outfit looks Fab super comfy for Travel/Lounging whilst away and it does look elevated too even though its casual. Love your lovely Light and Breezy Church outfit too. Yes your cotton sweater with your linen lantern pants looks lovely and yes definitely with the loafers . Love your lovely modern cinema outfit that blue looks so good with the black and white , and yes that print mac does look better than an all black one. And your Wednesday and Thursday outfit look so nice too. Loved the BFMD I’m trying my best to be a good person so Jesus’ sacrifice wasn’t in vain , I always feel terribly sad on a ‘Good Friday’. Lots of Blessings and Peace to you and your Family this Easter time ❤️🥰

  4. I can’t even image what “that Friday” was like. And isn’t it just like our Lord, such kindness and love, to not give intense verbiage to writing in Scripture how He felt about the pain and the torture. What kindness and grace to us that what we see from Him on the cross were things like His love to that one thief, His love for His Mother, even His comment in Luke 23:34 “And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.”

Even at this most dire of times, Jesus was love! He IS love! Forever and always!! We have so much to be thankful for! What a Savior!

Blessed Good Friday indeed! Our victory over death was won!

  5. Very nice outfits – as always! Achievable, too, even at lower price points. Also, so true that we need a Savior as on our own we simply cannot save ourselves! We have a God who gave Himself completely for us “while we were still sinners.” I am looking forward to seeing Cabrini to learn more about a woman who followed Christ in sacrifice and service to “the least of these,” not something we always want to do. Happy Easter!

  6. I enjoy these what I wore blog posts. I like seeing how you style things. I would also enjoy knowing if the items fit you true to size or not. I specially was wondering about the me and em jeans and the spanx longe set. It seems each company runs a little different. So enjoyed today’s styles! I amgo8ng to spend some more time thinking if they fit in my style triangle. Actually I am having a hard time with deciding on my third word. But I can already see how the parameters have helped me already!

    1. Hi Kristin. I’m so glad you enjoyed the post. In these posts especially you can assume things fit me true to size unless I tell you otherwise. I’m wearing a 30 in the ME+EM jeans, which is my size according to their size guide. And, while I usually size up to a Large in Spanx, I’m wearing my TTS Medium in these pieces.

  7. Kay, what a great selection of outfits for the week. Definitely, going to copy some of them. 😀 Hope you and James have a blessed weekend. Happy Easter! 🐣

  8. Love the message in the devotional. I always enjoy to see these what you wore posts. How do you keep from ruining your nice clothes when you do housecleaning? I ruined one of my lounge pants with bleach cleaner. I don’t know how I did it. I wear gloves and spray the tubs and sinks. I don’t know if there was a drip or what. My pants were old and from Walmart but they were a better quality than what they have now. I can’t imagine ruining an expensive pair. Maybe I need an apron. Also my favorite jeans are my wide legs especially to dress up. I like my ankle straight legs for every day wear. Have a blessed weekend and Resurrection Day.

    1. Hi Terri, I definitely don’t wear good clothes to clean. In fact, I generally clean in old pajamas! And I’ve had plenty get those bleach marks on them. Happy Easter to you, too!

      1. I was going to trash the pants but I will keep them for bathroom cleaning. I don’t want to ruin my other pants. It just baffles me because I don’t realize it at the time. Kay I also enjoyed your video on Wednesday.
