A Week of Spring Outfits

Each Friday I like to gather up photos of my daily outfits from the past seven days and share them with you. It keeps me accountable on several levels. First of all, this little exercise helps me to actually get “dressed for my day.” Yes, like many readers, I do sometimes struggle with even wanting to get out of my PJs. Ha! But it also challenges me to put together interesting outfits that are right for my personal style, my real lifestyle and the day I want to have. Let’s check out my week of spring outfits.

This post contains affiliate links. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links.

How This Works

These are my real life outfits from my own closet. Many of these things are available, but some may not be. When I can locate one quickly I’ll share substitutes and/or more economical options. But if I don’t provide one and you’d like for me to, just ask. All available items are linked in the captions of the photos. Even if they don’t look like links (sometimes they don’t highlight for some reason), they generally are. So just click through if you’re interested.

What I Wore Last Friday

The first few photos are from my visit to Georgia to see my parents, family and friends. Last Friday I drove over from my daughter’s home to begin my stay with my parents. Mom and I went out for a nice lunch, her treat. We’ve always enjoyed “ladies lunches” together.

It was a warm, sunny day, so I wore my favorite high waist straight ankle jeans with my Liberty floral print button-up shirt. I could wear this outfit every day! I completed the outfit with my cognac accessories and some minimal but impactful jewelry. By the way, for some reason my Julie Vos links are no longer working. They must have withdrawn from my affiliate program. But if you’re interested you can check out their gorgeous collection here.

How I Dressed for the Matinee Saturday

Saturday one of my best friends from forever ago and I attended a matinee performance of Steel Magnolias, in which another good friend of ours was performing the role of Truvy (Dolly Parton’s character in the movie). We pretty much made a day of it with dinner afterwards. Since it was another comfortably sunny day, I felt seasonably appropriate in my black linen trousers and striped linen shirt.

By the way, that linen shirt also comes in a long sleeve version, which I also have. I almost think I like the long sleeve shirt better because it’s more versatile. Both come in other colors and patterns, too. It’s a beautiful, soft, drapey linen fabric. Again, I accessorized with my cognac accessories and gold jewelry.

What I Wore to Church and Lunch Sunday

Unfortunately the weather took a drastic turn overnight and Sunday turned out to be rainy and cold, much colder than had been predicted with I packed for this trip. Still, I fared pretty well with my jersey knit dress, especially since my mom loaned me her denim jacket to wear with it.

Because I’d sprayed my slingback pumps with suede protectant, they held up just fine in the rain. By the way, this dress is a great dress for travel. It came out of the suitcase just like this and it’s so comfortable. It’s marked down and you can take another 30% off, putting it at well under $100.

What I Wore to Travel Monday

Monday I traveled home to Ohio, so I was back into my travel outfit from last week. It proved to serve me well for a day spent mostly at the airport.

tank (more economical tank)// similar linen jacket // pants // sneakers // earrings // necklace // bracelet

I was in Athleta just yesterday when a woman (over 50) walked in and asked the sales associate to point her to the travel pants that a friend had recommended. She took her straight to these Endless High Rise Pants. I’ve had several pair and I can tell you they are great for travel, but also for days of walking. I wear a size 10 in them and mine are the abalone grey. But of course I love the black, navy and granite blue. They’re 25% off for a limited time.

Of course, my linen jacket is from last year and no longer available. I LOVE wearing this jacket. This year Talbots has this one, which could serve the same purposes. I tried it on in this blog post, and it’s 30% off for a limited time.

How I Dressed for an Appointment Tuesday

Tuesday I mostly worked at home, but I did step out for a much needed nail appointment. It was sunny, but a little blustery and cool. I wore that floral Liberty print shirt again, but this time with my Frank & Eileen Milan travel set.

blouse // Milan travel set (or pants and jacket separately) (wearing a L in both) // sneakers (more economical sneakers) // tote is no longer available (similar alternative) // earrings // necklace // bracelet

Frank & Eileen have some great travel sets of all types, from shorts and short sleeves to longer sweats and long sleeves. They’re known for their raw edges and plush, 100% cotton triple fleece. And now they have beautiful getaway sets in beautiful washed linen.

What I Wore Out to Dinner at a Pub

Wednesday night James wanted to check out a local pub for dinner. We weren’t all that impressed and won’t be going back. But he did remark on my outfit that night, saying he really liked it and that it looked good on me. James has always been free with his compliments, but since I model so many clothes these days, he rarely remarks on specific outfits. So I definitely took note when he did Wednesday.

similar linen jacket // top // cropped wide-leg pants // twist sandals // earrings // necklace // crossbody bag

I was wearing my Maeve Colette cropped wide-leg pants and a fun black and white modern floral print top. I topped it with my linen jacket and wore nude twist sandals. I carried my Hobo crossbody bag that I carried with me to London last year. I love this bag! In fact, I just ordered it in another color. And it’s currently marked down.

How I Dressed for a Day Out

And that brings us to Thursday. Yesterday I had my yearly mammogram. I already got the results and all is good. Yay! I knew I would be doing some shopping afterwards, so I wore something that was easy on and off.

button up shirt // jeans (more economical option) // loafers (more economical option) // earrings // gold bracelet

By the time I took this photo at Talbots, in fact, I’d already had a full day of trying on clothes. And you can tell by how my wrinkled my shirt is. Ha! Those wrinkle aren’t from wear, mind you. They’re from me carelessly tossing my button up shirt aside while I tried on clothes. I oughtta do better! Anyhow I did get loads of compliments on this outfit, so that was nice. Ivory loafers are very in right now, but it does take a little getting use to wearing them. I think they worked here because I wore something fairly light up top. I tried an ivory belt with the outfit, but just didn’t like it.

So that’s my week of spring outfits. Thanks so much for dropping in!

Blessed for My Day

Have you noticed that when you make a return trip everything looks different from when you first passed that way going in the opposite direction? That’s how life can be, too, especially if we take the time to notice. When we look book on a season of our lives, we sometimes see that season from a different perspective, hopefully a vantage point of maturity and a little more wisdom.

Think about a time in your life that seemed especially difficult at the time. During that season you may have felt like it would never end. You may have felt crushed under the pain and stress of it all. But now, looking back, can you see things differently? Even though the season was painful, can you see how God was working through the details to eventually bless you and perhaps others? Taking another lap and looking at things a little differently can help us to grow in our faith in God.

Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel, so that my imprisonment in the cause of Christ has become well known throughout the praetorian guard and to everyone else, and that most of the brothers and sisters, trusting in the Lord because of my imprisonment, have far more courage to speak the word of God without fear. ~ Philippians 1:12-14

xoxo, Kay

  1. LOVE the jersey knit dress with the jean jacket – that is a great look on you! Also love that liberty shirt with the jeans. Your BFMD about perspective was definitely (as Jamie said) very insightful. Thank you!

  2. At the top of this post, you asked about interest in seeing white dresses. YES! I love flowy white dresses for the summer. Problem is always with “see through” and who wants to wear a hot clingy slip in the summer. (Hmmm, do they make cotton-y slips?). Would also like to see some white dresses that will compliment your “flabby arms” video.
Your posts here had great casual outfits. Can’t quite get into that small print blouse, however. Just me, it reminds me of my grandmother in her flower sack dresses. Remember those. anyone?

  3. Thank you for what you said in this part about God, little above where I am writing now. Praise God. When my dad got divorced and then got cancer, was so, so hard for him. At one point, he wanted to end his life. But later, I found his faith had grown by leaps and bounds. And he prayed for me, in a desperate way. I later brought tears to his eyes-when I called him from Japan-Isn’t God good, Daddy? was one of the first things I said-he knew my faith had been transformed. He got off the phone even, so much in tears. Happy tears. His desire was met-I had found the faith deep that he wanted me to have.

  4. I love your hair in the Milan travel set photo and the wide leg jeans in the last photo. Also the outfits. Love the devotional. I recalled tough times in my life and how I look at it differently now. Have a blessed weekend Kay.

    1. Thanks so much for noticing my hair in that photo. I watched a YouTube video that really helped me so much with styling and I put it into practice that day. Not only did the method work great but it actually stayed like that all day. 🙌🏻

  5. Truthful BFMD. I would love to see some white dresses for the spring and summer. I have 2 or 3 now but I love white summery flowy dresses.

    1. Great! I’ve heard from several readers they’d like to see white dresses. So I’ll see what I can do.

  6. I so appreciate your fashion and way of living advice, Kay. Thank you! I look forward to tunong every Wednesday…
My challenge is that at 5’2 and 115 lbs., it’s not easy to find true petite clothing. It is not just needing a shorter arm or leg length, as ypu know, but the rise, armholes, and neck to waist measurements are often SO long. If you have some ideas – especially what stores! – for petite ladies, please share : )
    God bless you.

  7. We have been invited to an outdoor wedding on July 6 in SC. I am 75 years old. What should I wear that is cool, confident and appropriate for my age. Would appreciate your help. I am 126 lbs and 5’4”.

  8. Hey Kay, I have been using Collagen for Her since you recommended it, and it tastes so much better than other collagen supplements, but I am having difficulty getting it lately. Amazon is telling me it is unavailable for my scheduled delivery for the second month in a row, and when I go to the Collagen for Her site, they seem to have several complaints from people not getting their orders. Any insight? Thank you!

    1. Hmm. I’ve not been in contact with them for several months now. It is a small business. I do hope everything is okay. I’ll try to reach out to my contact and see if I can find out anything.
