Winter Outfits I’ve Worn Lately

Hello and welcome to Dressed for My Day. On Fridays I generally use this post to share how I actually got dressed for my days throughout the week. So I am indeed sharing my real life outfits from Saturday through Thursday. I had hoped to share a try-on session of a few things I recently ordered, but I’ll save that for a rare Saturday post. See you back here tomorrow for that.

How I Really Dressed for My Day 02-05-22 02-10-22

Sizing Information

Just for reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155. I generally wear a size 8 or medium in dresses, tops, jackets and pants (or 29 or 30 in jeans), so that’s what I’m wearing in these looks unless I tell you otherwise. That way you can assume everything I show you is true to size unless I alert you to sizing up or down. I wear a size 9.5 shoe and, again, I’ll just let you know if I sized up or down in a shoe, otherwise it’s true to size.

Remember, most of this is old. So a lot of things are no longer available or sizes are picked over. But I’ll list what I can in the captions below the photos. I’m not taking the time to find substitutes in this post because I’d rather spend my time on sharing the hows and whys behind the outfits. I hope that works for you. But if you see something that you just really want to find a sub for, let me know and I’ll help you.

What I Wore Saturday

I’m pretty sure I did indeed get dressed for my day on Friday, but I suppose I neglected to take a photo. So we must move on to Saturday, when I just stayed home, did a little work in the morning and then caught up with housework in the afternoon. Nothing exciting here. But these stretch joggers are indeed a new purchase from Talbots.

What I Wore Last Week
stretch joggers // cashmere polo // running shoes // earrings // necklace

The stretch joggers are made out of a smoother, silkier fabric than the other joggers I have from Talbots. I think these are a weight than I can wear through spring. And my cashmere polo is marked down significantly but it is also final sale. I can tell you, however, that this has easily been one of my favorite cashmere sweaters this winter. It’s a wonderful quality cashmere and I love the polo collar and the length. It runs true to size and comes in other colors.

So there’s not much to say about this outfit other than I liked that it was comfortable and purposeful for the day I had, but it also looks pulled together and coordinated. And I really like these colors together.

What I Wore to Church Sunday

As a pastor’s wife for over 30 years, I’ve worn the full gamut of Sunday morning outfits. And I’m for getting dressed nicely for worship. But our congregation meets at a Holiday Inn and everyone there is dressed very casually. Even when I wear jeans and a sweater and blazer, I’m dressed very well for our church’s “culture.” Remember, that’s one of the eight factors I mentioned in this video on dressing appropriately. I say all that simply because I know some of my readers would never wear this outfit to church. And that’s perfectly understandable. But trust me when I say that if anything, I’m a little overdressed most Sundays.

What I Wore to Church on Sunday
similar cashmere sweater (now $75!!!) // jeans // blazer // hooded dickie // boots (similar) // similar necklace // earrings // bracelet

I had received this great leopard print hooded dickie during the week and was anxious to wear it. These dickies attach to the inside of Veronica Beard jackets and create completely new looks. So I decided to attach it to my black scuba jacket, which was my very first Veronica Beard purchase three years ago. I still love, love, love this jacket and wear it year round.

Since I wanted to add a little color to the outfit, I selected this dusty rose cashmere sweater (from last year) and went with light medium wash jeans. I bookended the look with my black chelsea booties. I’ll admit, as I was putting this together I was a little skeptical about the contrast in intensity. But in the end I loved how it turned out. I think the leopard dickie really bridged the pieces together.

And can we just pause and appreciate what a good hair day I lucked upon Sunday? Why can’t my hair look like that every day? Who knows?!

How I Dressed Monday

On Monday I felt like wearing something besides jeans and a sweater. I actually love that one, two combo. But I feel like I wear it so much this time of year. So I pulled out my bluish grey sweater vest (no longer in this color) and plaid ruffle front shirt (similar and more in stock) to wear over my distressed high waist jeans. These premium jeans are pricey, but they feel great on. And right now they’re 30% off.

What I Wore Monday
sweater vest (no longer in this color) // plaid ruffle front shirt (similar and more in stock) // distressed high waist jeans (30% off) // similar mules // earrings // bracelet // customized necklace

I always forget how comfortable this plaid ruffle front shirt is. It’s the softest cotton and feels great under sweaters or by itself. I’m pleased to see they’ve come out with more of these, including this pretty blue plaid. And they’re 50% off with code REFRESH. Oh, and my plaid ruffle front shirt is marked down and an extra 60% off with the same code. Score!

Anyhow, I just worked from home on this day, didn’t go anywhere. So I just slipped on my suede mules. It was a comfortable work from home look with some modern polish.

What I Wore Tuesday

Tuesday morning James and I selected the photos for yesterday’s blog post about this pleated midi skirt. Looking at those photos made me want to put the skirt on again. Ha! So that’s what I wore…just working from home. But this outfit felt amazingly comfortable and oh so pretty. I may have twirled a time or two that day!

What I Wore Wednesday
pleated midi skirt // cashmere turtleneck (similar cashmere sweater) both $75! // cami beneath // Edison flats // create a similar necklace here // earrings // watch (use code KAYHRMS for 15% off)

Since I wasn’t going out in the cold, I passed on tights or hose and just slipped on my pretty Edison flats. Don’t they look great with this skirt? You may see me wear them with it again in warmer months.

By the way, you can barely see my watch peeking out from under my sleeve above, but I want to remind you of Nordgreen’s current amazing offer. Right now they have their watch sets marked down up to 20% off. That’s a watch plus one or two extra bands. But you can use my code KAYHRMS to get another 15 % off that deal. That’s pretty amazing savings on these watches.

And if you haven’t already watched my bonus video on 5 Ways to Show Love this Valentine’s Day and Beyond (sponsored by Nordgree), be sure to do that. I have a great giveaway in the Description Box below the video on YouTube.

How I Dressed for Wednesday

And Wednesday I returned to my usual winter outfit formula of jeans and pullover sweater. But I did manage to add a lightweight layering t-shirt rather than my usual camisole. I do think that little addition makes this outfit feel more modern and fresh.

What I Wore Wednesday
long sleeve t-shirt // cashmere pullover // similar ankle jeanssame jeans in grey // sneakers // necklace // earrings

I’ve been trying on tons of straight cropped jeans recently. They’re definitely the now jean for this spring and summer. So I’m in pursuit of a few perfect pairs. Any how, as I tried on new jeans (some of which I’m showing below), I pulled out these Kut from the Kloth jeans I’d purchased in this past summer’s Nordstrom Anniversary sale. Unfortunately this exact pair is not currently available, but I’m hoping they come out with a similar Elizabeth for spring soon. These are extremely comfortable and a good price. You’ll find the same jean in grey here and a similar blue denim jean here.

By the way, watch for these retro sneakers to continue to trend this spring and summer. I think these sand colored New Balance sneakers are a fairly tame nod toward the trend while still creating that youthful vibe.

What I Wore Thursday

Thursday I had an appointment with my new web design team and then had to dash out the door to a doctor’s appointment (just a physical). Then I ended up staying out “shopping” rest of the afternoon, really just trying things on. But that’s why today’s post is so late.

What I Wore Thursday
similar sweaters // jeans // similar jacket (more economical option) (more Allsaints jackets) // captain boots (do size up 1/2 size in these)

At any rate, it was a balmy 40 degrees, so I opted to wear my leather moto jacket instead of an overcoat. I’ve missed wearing it. I just wore simple jeans and sweater under it. And finished the outfit with my lace up captain boots (do size up 1/2 size in these).

So that’s a wrap! Like I said above, I have a few more photos to share with you. These are jeans and transitional spring tops I’ve recently received. But I’ll share those tomorrow. I want to get this post out now! I hope you have a great day!

There are some things we just never will understand this side of eternity. Try as we may to figure out why something happened or why someone is the way they are, we cannot wrap our minds around it. And just when we begin to think we have figured it all out…things change or someone acts out of “character.”

But that’s where faith comes in. Faith is not just believing that God exists and that He has lovingly saved you. But it’s also trusting that He is a good and all-knowing God and that He, indeed, knows things that we just don’t need to know right now. Not only that, but we can trust Him to reveal to us, little by little, that which we do need to know. So rather than circling around that thing that has you stumped, focus your attention on the One who already knows all. He’s got this. And He’s got you.

It is the glory of God to conceal things,
but the glory of kings is to search things out. ~ Proverbs 25:2

Spread the love

  1. You look stunning in this color! I love the outfit top to bottom. Is this one of the colors of the year? I just bought a pair of pants in this color and thought I had nothing to wear particularly with it…and there…in the back on a shelf….the perfect sweater! I love it when that happens. ?

  2. Beautiful BFMD! I highly recommend Wit and Wisdom jeans from Nordstrom for those of us that prefer to pay under $100 for good quality denim. You wore some great outfits over the past week.

  3. Just wondering if you can post a link for the heart pendant you are wearing in the last pictures in the post, Kay. Thanks!

    1. Hi Sally. I meant to share a link to JamesAvery.com. It’s an old style and I don’t think they have it anymore. But they surely have similar selections.

  4. All the outfits are nice but what I would like to see is a tutorial on how you styled your hair for church. It looked great. Stay warm. Down here in Georgia the temp will be near 70 degrees today!

    1. Hahaha! I would too! I really have no idea why it looked like that on Sunday but not on others. I’ll try to figure it out and get back to you. ?

  5. Loved your looks this week. The outfit you wore Sunday especially caught my eye. I have everything but the dickie and since I don’t want to spend almost $200 to get that look, I thought I would just drape my leopard print scarf under my black jacket. Also, I am like you, I like the feeling of skirts or dresses and wear them around the house occasionally, especially during the summers when I am working outside, so much cooler than capris or jeans (I don’t do shorts).

  6. I loved how you said you did a couple of twirls in your skirt the other day! lol Who says we cannot dress up a little at home for ourselves or our husband. When I take a little more time in choosing my outfit and a little more put together, my husband notices and comments how nice I look. Like you in that dark purple colored sweater also and leather jacket. Can hardly wait until it warms up enough in Minnesota so I can wear mine.
Love the BFMD. Yes, God has it all figured out. Just have to wait on Him to reveal it to us.

  7. Love the leopard touch and the outfit! My favorite animal print! Appreciate the Blessed for My Day post too. Worse is when we ruminate over something that happened and carry the guilt and remorse long after we have confessed it and received God’s forgiveness. Thank you again. Beth

  8. You had a wonderful hair day. We got to grab them when they happen. By the way, are you wearing a charm bracelet? I have one from a long time ago and my mother in laws who is no longer with us. Are they back in style or have they never been out. Have a wonderful weekend.

    1. Yes, I’m wearing my charm bracelet. I don’t know that they’re “in,” but I believe they are quite classic. I haven’t worn mine in ages and just decided to put it on yesterday. ?

  9. Hey Kay. Rejoicing with you over your great hair day on Sunday! Love the Sunday outfit, too. Especially love the moto jacket you styled this week.

  10. Noticed how good your hair looked before you said anything! And loved the BFMD. Sometimes we just can’t seem to understand why things happen but you are right, I have to remember sometimes God is good and He’s got this! Thank you for the reminder. The BFMD is always on point and just what I need so many times.

  11. I’m looking for a versatile pair of flats. If you could only afford to buy one pair of flats, do you think the Edison flats you are wearing would fit that bill or should I go with a solid black or nude?
Thanks in advance! Btw you look lovely as always!

    1. Hi Tammy. Thanks. I do think the Edison flats are a great choice. But that would really depend on what you’ll be wearing them with. They’re on the dressier side, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. If you wear a lot of black, then absolutely. If you want them to wear with a multitude of colors, however, I’d choose something in a solid nude. Great shoe though.
