Hello dear friend! I just got in from a quick solo trip to New York City, so I’ve gathered up photos of my outfits to share with you what I wore. I like doing these weekly “how I really dressed for my day” blog posts, but rarely do I do anything as interesting in a week as I did this week. Let’s see what I wore in New York City and the rest of the week.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.
I like to focus on why I wore what I wore and how I put my looks together in these weekly posts. So I may not call out each item shown. You’ll find links to anything that is available in the captions under the photos. I’ll also share fit information there IF the garment doesn’t fit true to size (TTS). I try to be transparent about gifting; gifted items are indicated with a C/O beside them, meaning they were given to me “courtesy of” that brand. Finally, I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds, so I normally wear a misses 10. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape.
What I Wore to a Saturday Matinee Movie
This week we begin with Saturday since I posted what I wore on Friday in last week’s HIRDFMD post. Saturday was drizzly and cool. I got in my work out, did a little work around the house and then James sent me off to see the 20th anniversary showing of Pride and Prejudice at the movie theater. I say he “sent me off” because he purchased my tickets and snacks for me through the app and sent me on my way. Sweet.

On this rainy, cool spring day, my navy track pants topped with a soft yellow sweatshirt felt perfect. I did give the sweatshirt a gentle front tuck because otherwise the oversized top and pants just “ran together.” This is one of those instances when a little front tuck helps define your body without looking fussy or overdone.
What I Wore to Church Sunday
Sunday morning the weather was still cool and a little rainy. I wanted to wear something pretty and feminine, but still practical for the day. I opted for ankle length wide leg jeans and a feminine top. I tucked the shirt and added a belt for a little more polish.

To make the jeans outfit a little dressier, I wore my cognac slingback pumps and topped the outfit with a trench coat. It felt polished, but also comfortable and suitably casual for our house church.
What I Wore to the Mall Sunday
I was preparing for my New York trip, so I had to make a run to the mall Sunday afternoon. Since I wanted to change into loafers, I switched out of the button-up shirt and into my green cashmere sweater. I decided to add a small silk scarf at the neck for a little interest.

Again, I used a little front tuck with my sweater. When wearing ankle length jeans in a fuller silhouette, it’s all the more important to do what you can to achieve optimal proportions. If I hadn’t tucked the sweater a little, the jeans and sweater would just morph together and I’d look very sloppy.
My Tuesday Travel Outfit
I guess I didn’t take an outfit photo for Monday. It was probably something fairly comfortable and very casual since I was a slave to my desk that day. Tuesday I headed off to New York City for a YouTube creators event. My flight was arriving just before noon so I wanted to wear something weather appropriate that I could get out in to explore that afternoon.

The weather report for New York called for chances of rain and fairly cool temperatures, so I opted for my black washable stretch crepe cargo pants (similar option) (more economical option) and a black and white striped polo top (more economical option and another). I topped the black and white pairing with my flax colored water-resistant jacket (TTS; get 20% off $125, 30% off $200 purchase through 5/11/25). We weren’t supposed to have a LOT of rain, just the chance of showers and drizzle, and mainly I wanted the convenience of the hood if needed. As it turned out, I experienced very little rain and this outfit worked perfectly for travel and a LOT of walking in New York. I was able to check into my hotel early, so I took off walking all the way from 25th street to Madison Avenue, trekking through Central Park on the way. I had a blast!
What I Wore to Dinner Out
That evening I met up with Beth Djalali, another YouTube creator I’ve been friends with for several years, and we had dinner at a cozy, chic restaurant in Chelsea, where we were staying. So I cleaned up and changed into black linen pants, a white t-shirt and this darling gingham flight jacket.

As I was packing for the trip, I did struggle a little with what shoes to wear with my nicer outfits. I’ve only been to New York in the past for serious touring. I’ve been almost a dozen times, but walking long distances was always the priority. I had to remind myself that this trip was different. Other than my travel days, I wasn’t going to be walking excessively. As it turned out, these sandals were perfect for my two dinners out. We took Ubers to everything.
By the way, I LOVED wearing that gingham flight jacket. It’s lightweight and beautifully constructed. Gingham is really trending right now, so I think I’ll be wearing this soft, flowy flight jacket frequently.
What I Wore to the YouTube Summer Shopping House Event
Wednesday we had the event at Google’s Pier 57 from 9 to 4. Then I was invited to a cocktail party at 4 for “shopping stars.” The entire event was beautifully planned and executed. We had beautiful spreads for breakfast and lunch, insightful main stage speakers and panels, as well as quick, information-packed breakout sessions. But the highlight was, as always, meeting up with other YouTube creators who have fast become good friends.

You know me – if you’ve been around here long – and how much I gravitate to my Veronica Beard blazers when I want to feel and look my most polished and professional. So I enjoyed wearing the black Miller dickey jacket with the coordinating black Renzo pants. (That blue spot is from the light on my remote clicker that I use to take these photos. Bother!) Wearing my favorite graphic tee under the “suit” felt perfect for this event. And my slingback pumps felt comfortable but polished for this day of being on my feet a lot. I had a blast!
That evening we went to dinner at a rooftop restaurant that was just amazing. It was one of the most perfect dinner venues I’ve ever been to. Unfortunately I neglected to get a photo of my outfit. But I just changed back into the black linen pants with this same graphic tee. And this time I wore my flax colored Athleta bomber jacket (shown below) with it. I completed the outfit with my Veronica Beard sandals.
What I Wore to Travel Home
Thursday I was able to sleep in just a little and have a leisure breakfast in my hotel. Then I walked to a nearby park to enjoy some people watching. My Uber picked me up just before noon to go to the airport.

I wore my washable stretch crepe cargo pants again, this time with a metallic striped Henley top (sized up to large) under my jacket. Again, I felt comfortable for the two-hour flight home, but I also looked pulled together and smart.
I thoroughly enjoyed my quick solo trip to New York. While I was meeting up with friends and exploring the city on my own, James was on a little landscape photography trip of his own. He took photos of natural bridges, gorges and waterfalls in Kentucky. Hopefully we’ll get to see a few of those soon.
Thanks for checking in with me today. I hope you have a lovely Friday!

Blessed for My Day
Misunderstandings happen. I wish they didn’t. Don’t you? It saddens me how often a simple misunderstanding between people can lead to the demise of a friendship. We’ve all had that happen to us, I’m sure. But it just seems senseless, especially when you’re looking in from the outside and you see how “silly” it all really is to those who are not the offended.
Sometimes you really cannot do anything to salvage a relationship that someone else has decided to sever because they are angry with you or offended by something you did (or so they perceived). We cannot control other people’s actions or reactions. But we can decide to be women who are not easily offended ourselves. And when we do feel misunderstood, offended, cheated, left out, etc., we can choose to give grace instead of growing grudges. That one little decision can have beautiful ripple effects, allowing your relationships to bloom rather than die. Trust me, it’s worth it to hang in there with people, realizing that none of us are perfect, we all make mistakes and sometimes we don’t know the whole story.
Then David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and he came and said to Jonathan, “What have I done? What is my guilt? And what is my sin before your father, that he is seeking my life?” ~ 1 Samuel 20:1
Good for you girl! It sounds like a great trip and I remember those good feelings on similar occasions. A nice assortment of styles – in a carry-on, even. My favorite on you is always a blazer. You look so polished and put together, like you could do anything, (it’s a look that I hope I achieve, when I don a blazer) And I like the little bomber jacket. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you had so much fun in New York at your event. Nice you could meet up with Beth Djalali for dinner. I follow her and enjoy her blog also very much, you both are my two favorite influencers. I follow you both every day.
I’m glad you had a fun, good trip! Honestly though, your blog is the best in my opinion. I love the style and the way yours is presented. It just has such a good “feel” to it. I really notice that when I read other fashion blogs and then come back to yours. Yours is hands down my favorite!
I concur!
I learn from you about packing for travel and appreciate it. I usually over pack and take outfits I don’t wear. Your outfits look perfect for the activities on your trip. Thank you for sharing.
It’s always good to get away and “talk shop” with others in our lane. It would be interesting to know which influencers sessions you attended. I follow Beth, however, her lifestyle is so different from mine. DFMD is more my cup of tea. Glad you had a great time! Happy Mother’s Day!
Love seeing your travel outfits. Everything you choose makes perfect sense and that’s helpful for someone like me who takes all day to decide what to pack! Thanks for the devotional today as well. I’ve always believed, as women, we should lift each other up in all circumstances. I follow Beth, too, and congratulate both you ladies for fabulous fashion blogs. Thanks for all you do, and I wish you a lovely Mother’s Day! Be blessed.
Looks like a good, fun trip that you enjoyed – good news! Your outfits are all practical and translate well for others to try. Yes to giving grace and trying not to be easily offended – we just never know what someone is going through in some cases, and in other cases, if someone is indeed knowingly offensive, it says more about them than it does about you and is not worth anything other than praying for them.
Wearing those neutral shoes with a dark (navy) suit is not very good. Remember the cardinal rule: Always wear shoes the same color as the hem of your skirt and pants, or go a shade darker.
Sorry, Joanne. I just don’t agree with that. Nude shoes are almost always a good choice. Yes, black shoes would have worked here, too. But I’m still a fan of flesh toned shoes in instances like this suit.
Thank you for showing us what you wore to New York. I enjoy seeing the outfits and the reason why you choice what you wore! It helps me put more thought into what I wear too!
Enjoyed the BFMY!
I’m glad you had a good trip. The blessed for my day message is spot on. I’ve had to work on not getting offended and to give grace.
Blessed for my day was just right for me to hear & spur me on to make amends in a misunderstanding. I consider your words straight from God to me. Thank you.
