Hello! And welcome to Dressed for My Day. I’m so glad you stopped in for a little style inspiration today. This week, while I’m sharing style formulas and tips, I’m also sharing a few of the hottest trends in fabric for fall. Truthfully, fall is trending. All things fall. Hahaha! Even if we’re not quite there yet…on the calendar or the weather. From the title of today’s post you probably already know that corduroy is so on trend this year. And I’ll share more ways to wear this fabric of the moment on Thursday. But today I’m simply styling a trending corduroy dress two ways for fall.

Really dresses are trending, too. This might be a good moment to talk briefly about what we mean by a “trend.” Obviously a dress in and of itself is not a trend; it’s a wardrobe basic. But what we really mean by trend is simply that something is popular right now, it’s having a moment. So even classics – like button-up shirts and loafers and sneakers and blazers – can trend. And right now, it’s so on trend to choose to wear a dress.

I think we owe the popularity of dresses to the fact that we opted for comfy joggers and sweatpants for two years. Coming even further away from those stay-at-home days, we’re choosing to put a little more effort into our outfits and we’re reaching for garments we neglected for so long. So, hello dress!

For this first look with my Frank & Eileen Rory Italian corduroy dress, I’ve simply accessorized with a silk scarf (similar, same brand). By the way, I’d say my corduroy dress does run a little large, but for an intentional over-sized fit. I wouldn’t go any smaller, and I’m wearing a medium per the size chart at Frank & Eileen. You can use code SF-KAY-15 at Sarah Flint for 15% off a similar silk scarf or other purchases, too.

And for this first look with my long, button-front corduroy dress, I completed the outfit with soft taupe colored loafers (mine are from a previous season, so slightly different) and a similar colored tote. My tote is from this past spring and no longer available, but definitely check out this Italian leather hand-woven tote from Quince. What a great price!

For my next look with my corduroy dress, I simply swapped out the scarf for a cotton pullover sweater and the loafers for sneakers. I’m wearing the Frank & Eileen Pebble Beach Italian cotton sweater in the shade sand. I have a size medium in the sweater and you’ll see me wear it soon.

In England it seemed like women everywhere were wearing similarly oversized, easy-breezy dresses with sneakers. You know my Paul Green Unity platform sneakers are beyond comfortable.

You may have noticed that with both outfits I basically bookended the dress with splashes of sand, either with the scarf and loafers or the sweater and sneakers. Bookending a long, flowy dress like this can make it look less overwhelming, more contained.

So corduroy is trending, dresses are trending and dresses with sneakers are trending. Ha! Now you’re in the know. But if you prefer a corduroy dress that isn’t as blousy as mine, I’ve collected a lot of others for you to check out. And I have options at a full range of prices and hemlines.

Blessed for My Day
I’ve always thought it interesting that the Bible tells us approximately 365 time to “fear not” or some words very similar. It’s as though God knows that daily we will run into situations that cause us to respond with anxiety or fear. But did you know that the Bible also tells us to “praise the Lord,” or something to that effect, just as many times. I think that’s no coincidence.
When we elevate God, our fears and anxieties diminish. When we exalt Him, He puts our concerns into better perspective. You don’t have to wait until Sunday morning at church to sing the Lord’s praises. Each day you can take a few minutes to verbally acknowledge God’s characters, ways and promises. When we speak out loud our praise for Him, He turns down the volume on the worries of this world.
Lord, You are my God;
I will exalt You, I will give thanks to Your name;
For You have worked wonders,
Plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness. ~ Isaiah 25:1

Love this trend!!!! Bring it on!
I bought the FE Pebble cotton in sand. Actually, I bought several of their tops in that color. Love it. The sweater you are showing with your dress looks different than the current Pebble. Looks cute tho
Hi Kay pleased you are having a good time at the LTK Conference . I love corderoy so soft warm and looks expensive too perfect for Autumn/Fall, the dress you are wearing looks lovely super comfy and goes so well with your trainers too , love the colour too beautiful❤️. Your BFMD’s you choose always soothe me and bring me lot of Light and Clarity. 🙏🏻
I really like the scarf with the dress, especially because I am seeing square scarves popping up in stores where I live. Are square scarves, rather than the long rectangular ones, currently trending?
Thanks for talking about the trend of corduroy today. Had two pairs of corduroy pants in high school, early college days. Sure brings back memories, they flood back when I remember clothing from way back. I had heard about fall trends but not this one. had wondered one time-why this material never seemed to make it’s way back. But here it is.
Hi Kay! Glad you are having a great time in Dallas. I’ve been following along on Insta. I love corduroy and have several pairs of pants from past years. Can’t wait to take them down from storage. As for this F&E dress, I would be tempted to belt it, as another option! I also have those Paul Green sneakers. Love them!! Enjoy the rest of your week visiting family. ~~Sue
