Are you attending a wedding or other special event this fall or winter? Choosing a dress for a special occasion can seem a little daunting. But I’m hoping to help a little today. I’ve got five beautiful dresses that would look sophisticated and elegant for your special evening or day. These are fall wedding guest dresses to love.

Tomorrow I’ll be flying to Dallas to attend my third LTK Con, which is a conference/convention hosted each year by the largest affiliate marketing program I work with, LTK. It’s quite the honor to be invited, so I always take advantage of this event to meet up with other women who do what I do. I learn so much from them. We cap the event off with an awards ceremony and gala event, and this year it includes a formal sit-down dinner. So I’ve been looking for just the right dress to wear. The first three selections I’m sharing are all dresses I ordered for that purpose, but they’d also work nicely as wedding guest dresses.
Alex Evenings Velvet Gown
First up, this Alex Evening ruched velvet gown with three-quarter sleeves and a plunging v-neckline. The dress comes in this gorgeous imperial blue as well as forest green and wine.

In fact, as I write this, the dress is almost sold out in the blue, but I did notice they restocked the forest green once already. So there’s hope they will restock sizes over time. The dress runs true to size; I’m wearing a 10.

This ruched velvet gown is very comfortable, but it’s not one I would do a lot of dancing in. With proper, ladylike movement I’m able to keep the shoulders of the dress in place and the v-neckline where it should be. But I would not be able to boogie in this dress. Yes, indeed we do kick up our heels on that final evening of LTK Con. However, I think the dress is pretty stunning and would make a lovely mother of the bride or groom dress, too.
Adrianna Papell Cocktail Dress
If you prefer a dress with a little bit of sleeve, but not the long sleeve, I think this Adrianna Papell cocktail dress is a snazzy selection. It does have a little snap at the base of the v-neck for modesty, too.

The dress is a gunmetal grey with similar colored sequins and beads attached. But I must warn you, James was finding sequins all over the floor after I modeled this one. I have a feeling the dress would shed a few and then you’d be good to go. But I just wanted you to have that information.

Again I’m wearing my TTS 10 comfortably, and this dress stays put a little better than the velvet gown. That said, it’s also a rather heavy dress, with all those beads. Obviously I would also need to invest in some silver special occasion jewelry for this dress, but it’s not going with me to Dallas anyhow.
Adrianna Papell Burnout Sheath Dress
I chose the Adrianna Papell burnout sheath dress for my gala event in Dallas. Yes, it will still be very hot outside next week in Texas, but they transport us from the hotel to the Myerson in airconditioned buses and we are outside only a short while. I wore a similar dress last year and it worked out beautifully.

The burnout sheath dress is the most comfortable of the three I tried. I apologize for not getting a photo of the back of this dress. I guess I should have photographed the back of all three, but this is the most interesting and pretty. Check it out on the Nordstrom website to see the lovely drape on the back.

This mid-length dress is also available in plus sizes. And in the misses sizes it also comes in a black/blue option. By the way, the sheer slingback pumps shown above are just like my gold slingbacks, but sheer. They fit true to size. I decided not to keep these however (after only standing right here in them), and I’m wearing my gold pumps I purchased from Ann Taylor last year (no longer available).
Maggy London Dresses
Recently Maggy London reached out to me offering a few dresses to share with you. One didn’t fit, so I returned it. But I do have two beautiful dresses to show you that would work nicely for a daytime wedding this fall or winter.

That said, I could not find this beautiful mosaic blue Zoey dress (c/o Maggy London) anywhere. So maybe they haven’t even released it yet. But you can find a full selection of Maggy London dresses that are beautiful for daytime weddings, church and work here at Nordstrom.

In fact, the dress I wore to the LTK Con gala last year (also available here) was from Maggy London. And you’ll even find a nice selection of lower priced Maggy London dresses at Nordstrom Rack, which is where I located my second dress below.
Matte Jersey Long Sleeve Wrap Dress
This matte jersey long sleeve wrap dress is soft and extremely comfortable. I’m wearing a size 10, but I might could size up to a 12 for a slightly more comfortable fit. Then again, I don’t know. It’s obviously supposed to fit close to the body and it is a wrap dress. It actually feels pretty good.

The dress looks lovely by itself for a daytime wedding or luncheon, but add a jacket like I did below and it works well for work, too.

I’ve put together an extensive shopping boutique below with other beautiful dress options for special occasions this fall. You’ll find more “Sunday morning best” options, as well as more formal dresses to choose from. And I’ve also included some nice wraps, jewelry, handbags and shoes for you to consider.

Blessed for My Day
“Calm down, it’s going to be okay.” We’ve all heard some well-meaning soul say those words to us. But empty promises and wishful thinking do not calm my anxious heart. What about you? We can look to other people or things for peace or we can look to God. I’ll take the peace that only the Lord gives. In fact, Jesus assured His disciples that the peace He was leaving them with was not the same brand that the world offers.
As we face the uncertainties of tomorrow we can indeed tell our hearts to not be troubled or fearful because we have been given the peace of God. Because Jesus has accomplished our salvation through His death on the cross, burial and resurrection, we have peace with our Maker. And because He is going to prepare a place for us in Heaven, we have the peace of eternity with Him. And because He has given us the Holy Spirit as a deposit for His promise to return, we have the peace of His abiding presence.
Peace I leave you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor fearful. ~ John 14:7
