When I’m on a true vacation, where relaxation and unwinding are the priorities, I tend to dress down a little from my everyday attire. In the same way that I gravitate to “comfort foods” when I’m not feeling well or I’ve got the blues, I reach for “comfort clothes” when I’m trying to rest my mind and rejuvenate my spirit. When I’m vacationing I want to wear clothes that feel soft and easy on my body, but garments that also make me feel pretty and put together. This is not the time to go sloppy, but a time for stylish attire that feels a little soothing and easy, polished and pretty but also practical and a pleasure to wear. So today I’m sharing how I traveled in style this fall with one of my favorite brands, Frank & Eileen.

Everyday Style for Fall Vacation
This first outfit is one I actually wore twice during my recent fall vacation in upstate New York. The best thing about these three Frank & Eileen pieces is that they work beautifully together, but they were all featured in other outfits I put together for my fall vacation, too.

The individual pieces I’m wearing from Frank & Eileen are all 100% cotton, machine washable, ultra soft and beautifully constructed. Yes, they’re casual and feature things like unfinished hemlines (on the pants), exterior seams, hand-distressed hemlines (on the button up) and relaxed fits. But the styles are current and the vibe is modern and chill.

I’m wearing my true size medium in everything shown. Unfortunately the Mini Cotswold cardigan is sold out in this camel, but it is available in ivory and some sizes in marine navy. It was one of my favorite pieces on my vacation, and I wore it multiple ways. Since I’ve been home I’ve been reaching for it in the mornings and evenings.

I completed this comfortable, casual look from Frank & Eileen with low-heeled suede booties (that I got when they were recently 25% off 🙌) and a National Parks kerchief that I purchased at a sweet little gift shop in Lake Placid. It was perfect for keeping the chill off my neck and adding a little color to the outfit.

I enjoyed wearing this Frank & Eileen trio for a day of walking around Lake Placid, as well as for traveling through the Hudson River Valley on our journey home from the Adirondacks. But of course it’s also a great outfit for any casual fall outing or just hanging at home.
A Polished Look for Fall Vacation

During our stay at the Mirror Lake Inn Resort & Spa we made reservations for one dinner at their AAA 4-Star restaurant, the View. The dress code was “resort,” which gave us plenty of wiggle room. But I wanted to feel striking while still looking like I was on vacation…because I was!

I had ordered this Frank & Eileen Scotland getaway set in beautifully soft, fine-whale corduroy when it first came out, envisioning wearing it for this very occasion. It did not disappoint. The color is the most beautiful dark green and the fabric is lightweight, but has a gorgeous drape. It fits true to size, but the pants are very long. I had to wear my 3″ heel Ally black booties in order for them not to drag the floor. (I’m 5’8″.)

The pants have an elasticized waistband and convenient slant front pockets that look polished and lay flat. I also love that I can wear each of these separates with other things to create different looks. But I especially enjoy the chic monochromatic vibe of the set. Each set is made from a hand-dyed small batch to ensure that the pieces are the exact same color, so you do have to purchase as a set and returns must include both garments.

I know that Frank & Eileen pieces are quite spendy and may not fit everyone’s budget or desired spending patterns. But even if you don’t prefer to shop their elevated, casual styles, you might take inspiration from the two looks I’ve shared today. For me, these are quintessential fall vacation outfits that strike that perfect balance between polish and pleasure, elevated and easy.
But also consider that Frank & Eileen have started offering the rare discount now and again, something I never saw them do the first couple of years I shopped with them. Just recently they offered 20% off sitewide, and I always share those deals in my daily and weekly newsletters. And they do have a fairly large SALE section, too. Thanks so much for dropping in for a little style inspiration. Have a beautiful, stylish day!

Blessed for My Day
Gratitude is an attitude that we feel, sometimes deeply. But unless we pause to express that gratitude openly, verbally, we run the risk of the other person never knowing just how thankful we really are. In fact, your host, your spouse, your friend could even assume you are ungrateful if you never take the opportunity to actually verbalize your appreciation. It’s important to tell people we are grateful.
On the other hand, God surely knows how grateful we are. Right? He knows what is in our hearts and minds, so we don’t actually have to put words to those feelings, do we? It’s true; God knows. But it still does us so much good to verbalize our gratitude to God. When we write down or speak aloud our thanks to God, our perspective changes, our joy increases, our trust in Him grows and our satisfaction level increases. Why not pause right now to thank Him for what He has done for you and who He is to you?
Therefore you are great, O Lord God. For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears. ~ 2 Samuel 7:22
I like your outfit choices. So comfy but stylish too. Glad to see the scarf. I’ve been wanting to try this trend out but didn’t want to look matronly. I didn’t know how to tie it or style it. I loved back in the day when scarves were trending for years, for an accessory not just to keep warm with a coat. They really add to an outfit. Looking forward to hearing more about your trip. Enjoy your trip. I’m not brave to travel alone.
I have a difficult time getting my short scarfs to stay neat and rolled up. Anyone have any hints? Thanks!
Hi Kay, I too like to add a scarf, but I generally prefer to coordinate/complement the colors I’m wearing.. The green one you’re wearing doesn’t quite work for me. I would choose one with some blue and other colors to perk up your outfit—the green doesn’t really add anything to my eye.
Oh, I really like both these outfits! Very wearable and easy to replicate. I had to laugh about the distressed hem on the denim shirt – I can imagine my husband asking me what happened to my shirt and didn’t I have a better one to wear?!? I would explain that it was meant to be like that and he would just shake his head…
