Happy Friday! And hello from Troy, New York, where we are having French Toast at a bed & breakfast that was a single family home from 1790 until 1985. Wow. I’m pretty sure this is one of the oldest buildings I’ve ever slept in here in the United States. We’ve spent the last five days in the Adirondack Mountains, mostly enjoying the amenities of the Mirror Lake Inn Resort & Spa in Lake Placid. And today we’re journeying on down the Hudson River Valley, taking in the history and enjoying a change of pace. I thought it would be a good time to share with you what I packed for my Fall Adirondack getaway.

Next Friday I’ll share the outfits I wore on our fall getaway, but today I’ve just rounded up the items in my suitcase. If you’re planning a similar getaway in the next few weeks or you are doing something similar next fall, you might want to consider how I’ve packed for this 10-day road trip.
When I travel by air I try to pack more minimally. But James and I often take road trips, and on these vacations I give myself a little more wiggle room. Still I do try to make sure that items in my suitcase mix and match nicely, and that I can layer on and off with changes in the weather.
So far, with days in the 80s and others reaching only high 40s, I’ve been quite pleased with the outfits I’ve been able to put together from my suitcase. And I’ve had sporty travel looks, hiking outfits, dinner combos and everyday outfits that have felt polished but also casual and relaxed.
What I Packed for My Fall Adirondack Getaway

I definitely brought along more shoes than I should have. But I’ve worn them all! I needed the higher heeled Ally booties to wear with the super chic Frank & Eileen Scotland Getaway Set because the pants are quite long. And I just don’t travel without my slippers! Still, I’ve managed to pack everything very comfortably in my Away medium suitcase and I have my toiletries in this Away Everywhere bag. I look forward to sharing outfits and a little more about our trip next Friday. Meanwhile, if you have any questions let me know. I am taking the time to read comments every day and I’ll gladly answer any questions about size or fit. Have a great weekend!

Blessed for My Day
Have you begun to feel far away from God? Sometimes we can suddenly find ourselves drifting in our relationship with the Lord. Of course, He doesn’t move away from us. In fact, He promises to never leave us, to always be with us. And the promises of God’s Word make it evident that He loves us and seeks a thriving relationship with His children.
But like a small child who has wondered away from her daddy at a busy and bustling amusement park, distracted by the many attractions, lights, bells and whistles, we can drift away from our Father in life. How can you get back in step with Him? Simply call out to Him and tell Him you want to feel His presence again. Take the next step of obedience you know to take, and listen for His voice to direct your steps.
You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and hold fast to him. ~ Deuteronomy 13:4
So glad to hear you had a great trip. 🙂 Having lived in upstate for a number of years, I am well familiar with the Capital District and the Adirondacks. It’s a lovely time of year to be in that area. On your way out of Troy, if you have the time and want a beautiful panorama view of Albany and the surrounding regions, take a short detour and go to John Boyd Thacher State Park in Voorheesville. And a thank you – your BFMD is speaking to me, some things I need to settle the right way with the Lord right now. *sigh*
I hope you are stopping at Hyde Park. The FDR home and library are excellent. It doesn’t matter your politics, it is a phenomenal history lesson. The Adirondacks were my favorite vacation spot as a child.
You took a variety of clothing and shoes with you! What was the weather like while you were there? I have never been to that area but would love to go! Enjoy your vacation ! Can’t wait to see all the pictures!
Thank you for the BFMD.
Yeah, that’s one of the reasons I took such a variety of shoes. We started off in the 80s and have been down into the 30s. Lol! But all the days have been beautiful.
Love your choices and really enjoyed your pics from that Inn. I saw that Inn for the first time on a reality show I watch about 2 weeks ago. I even looked it up. Looks fabulous. Their rooms even had cozy fireplaces. The food looked fantastic.
We’re on our way home right now from our own getaway. Please don’t miss Mackinac Island if you can. Saw where it was on your bucket list. It was magnificent and magical. We stayed at the Grand Hotel. I posted pics of my dinner outfits on the group FB page. An unforgettable experience.
Last week you profiled a great selection of jeans. Yesterday, my high-rise, flare jeans arrived from Quince. $50, free shipping. Kay, they are the best fitting, most comfortable jeans I’ve ever worn! They are still on sale, so I ordered two more. Enjoy “the ‘real’ Upstate New York”. I live in the area you’re traveling through and this is my favorite time of year for sightseeing. Safe travels.
Hi Kay! Glad you and James are enjoying yourselves.
Are the leaves colorful there?
I love the J Crew puffer vest you posted. Wondering what color and size you got?
I can’t wait to see how you styled it!
Be safe
It is lovely! I got the mossy brown in a size medium and it’s perfect for me.
Ordered it!!!
Can’t wait to see how “we” style it!
My husband and I had a wonderful trip to the Hudson River Valley a few years ago – Hyde Park was a highlight and there were some lovely small towns nearby as well as some interesting mansions open to the public – it is a beautiful part of the country and you are visiting at perhaps the best time of the year to be there. Your packing list looks like it covers all the weather possibilities!
Several followers on Instagram mentioned the Roosevelt estate in Hyde Park and we did drive in there. Unfortunately, due to the government shut down, it was closed. Bummer. That happened to us when we visited Boston and the surrounding area a number of years ago, too. A little disappointing, but we did get to see the outside area.
Love all the items you packed. I live in Northern Michigan and can definitely use your style tips from this trip. Did you go to West Point? Lots of history.
We did indeed drive through the area and saw as much as we could. Their museum was closed due to the government shutdown, but the drive up was just gorgeous.
