Last year the classic barn jacket became a major fashion trend for fall and winter. They continued to be popular through the spring, taking on new colors and fabrications. This fall the barn jacket is the completer piece of the season, showing up in rich colors, with interesting details and fun accents, but maintaining the classic vibe of this traditional coat. How will you put a new spin on the trending barn jacket this fall?

I’m featuring a silky quilted barn jacket from Talbots today, but I’ve collected so many more for you to consider in the shopping widget at the bottom of the post. I did include a few very traditional coats, but since we’re talking about taking a new spin on the trending barn jacket, I’ve also included quite a few that fit the bill.
Style Your Trending Barn Jacket in a New Way

Even if you have a more traditional barn coat like my L.L. Bean Adirondack barn coat (shown below in the video), you can take a new spin on a trending barn jacket by styling it for, well, not the barn. Ha! I’ve styled my Talbots quilted barn jacket and the L.L. Bean Adirondack barn coat with jeans and a white button-front shirt for what I call The Barn Jacket Gone to Town.
I love styling this classic work coat with a little more polish. Check out my favorite white button-front shirts in this recent blog post, 8 of the Best White Button-Front Shirts for Women. In today’s outfit I’m wearing the Brochu Walker everyday shirt, which is definitely my favorite polished shirt. But a nice substitute at a more reasonable price would be the Lands’ End cooling button front shirt.

Accessorize Your Trending Barn Jacket with Belt and Booties
The classic barn coat is probably worn with work boots and flannel shirts. But take a new spin on the trending barn jacket by accessorizing your outfit with a belt and booties. When I’m wearing wide or fuller straight leg jeans, like these Rag & Bone Logan wide leg jeans, I prefer to complete the look with pointy toe booties. My Ally lower block heel booties in camel are the perfect choice to finish this outfit since they pull out the similar color in the trim of my coat. You can use code KAYBOOTS to save $50 on your first pair of Ally boots or booties. They’re super comfortable.

Then to add a little interest, I added a brown belt and brown handbag to my outfit. Just because you’re wearing a jacket made for working in the barn doesn’t mean you have to dress down this trending coat. In fact, create a new spin on the trending barn jacket by creating a more elevated look.
Style the Trending Barn Jacket with Color and Interesting Prints

My Talbots barn jacket also comes in autumn orange, indigo blue and oakmoss green. In the shopping widget below I’ve collected additional barn coats in new colors and prints, like this leopard print, this plaid and this dark brown corduroy. Choose a jacket that helps you express your personal style.
Do you have a barn jacket? How do you enjoy wearing it? Consider a new way to wear it this week as fall shows off more and more.

Blessed for My Day
Recently an acquaintance told me about a television show she had been watching and that she thought I might like, too. She said it was quite clean, had a cute story line and felt like good fun. But then she began to tell me about a few features of the program that don’t line up with a biblical worldview at all. She noted that these are modern trends that she doesn’t agree with, but “what are you going to do?” I get it. It’s hard to find truly clean programs to watch on television that don’t also include questionable morality, bad language or political undertones.
But friends I’ve discovered that when I allow myself to start down a slippery path I eventually end up sliding around in ways I hadn’t expected to. I begin to dismiss sinful behavior, make allowances for unclean talk and even laugh at jokes that are off-color or offensive. I’ve determined it’s better for me to stay away from those slippery paths by keeping higher standards, even if they sometimes seem impossibly narrow. It’s a daily choice to resist the pull of the world around me and to instead renew my mind with the Word of God.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. ~ Romans 12:2

BFMD is exactly how I feel about media. I left one book club for that reason. They were willing to be ok with some things.
I totally agree with your BFMD. So many Christians are getting relaxed with their morals. God has to be our standard and if we wouldn’t feel comfortable watching it with HIM then we should question it. So hard these days for sure. You look so cute in your outfit today. Great way to level up the barn coat. I don’t have one yet.
I wear my olive green barn jacket with jeans and a dark blue blouse with a flower print that has just a hint of olive green in the print. I add a cognac belt, shoes and bag to finish it off. I love how this outfit came together this fall with the blouse as a new purchase and the rest already in my closet.
Thank you for reminding us not to conform to this world. I love your Blessed for My Day comments and scripture which line up with your message. Thank you
Good devotional message. So true.
