January first always sneaks up on me. Anyone else? But I have learned to stock up on a few essentials early in December so that I’m not caught completely off guard when the new year rolls around. Today I’m sharing with you a few things that I’ve learned that I need now to be ready for the new year.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

We’ll keep this short because many of us are busy enjoying the holidays and the finals weeks of this year. But let’s take a few minutes to make sure you have now the things that will make the new year more productive and enjoyable for you.

Things You Need Now to be Ready for the New Year

This is the time to make sure you have tools you’ll need to be organized for the coming year. If I have these tools ready to use on the first I’ll feel more on top of things and I can set up systems that help me stay on top of things in many areas of my life.

2026 kitchen calendar // market list // weekly desk pad // birthday cards // file folders // pencils // keepsake card box // desktop weekly planner

Obviously you’ll want a good calendar or organizer. But I also like to have things like a market list and a weekly desk pad to handle weekly lists. I’m also more likely to keep my desk organized if I have fun to use and attractive tools like these file folders and pencils. And I’m more likely to send greeting cards to my friends and my family members if I have boxed sets like these birthday cards and this keepsake card box, which includes two thank you, two birthday, two thinking of you, and two congratulations cards.

Trusting God With Today- A Daily Devotional // Life Principles Daily Bible // quilted journal // gel pens // highlighter set

Whether you’re already in the habit of having a regular quiet time or you have made that a new goal for 2026, you’ll need to have the tools on hand to be successful at this spiritual discipline. I have read through the Life Principles Daily Bible each year for about a dozen years, and I’m flipping back to page one to begin again on January first. It includes readings from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs for each day, as well as a brief devotional from Charles Stanley. But if you prefer to go through a devotional guide with just a little bit of Scripture you may enjoy the late Dr. Stanley’s Trusting God With Today- A Daily Devotional. It’s also a good idea to have a journal and other essentials at your quiet time place, such as these pencils and a highlighter set. I personally like these stitched notebook sets.

Hatch Restore 3 device // lifestraw bottle // nutrafol women’s balance // get lean jump rope set // water dispenser // 5 day reset kit

Finally let’s make sure we have the essentials we’ll need now to be ready for a healthy new year. I’ve ordered this Hatch Restore 3 device to help me optimize my sleep time. I struggle a little with insomnia, and I know that getting ample sleep is so important to our health. I’ve included other items you might want to consider in the graphic above, too. Oh, and yes, I’ll be doing the Kroma 5-day reset January 5-9 if you’d like to join me.

Below I’ve provided links to all of these and a few other items you might want to have now to be ready for the new year.

Thanks so much for stopping in today. Let me know in the comments if there are other things you think are important to have for the new year. I very well may have left something important off the list.

Blessed for My Day

We can’t always control our circumstances and surroundings. And those things definitely have a bearing on our success. But we can make sure that we are prepared as much as possible so that we are able to pivot as needed. When we have a plan, the right tools and a support system, we’re much more likely to accomplish our goals…even if circumstances take an unexpected turn.

Consider Jesus’ mother Mary. She found herself in unexpected circumstances when it was time to give birth to the Savior. But she was prepared: she had the swaddling clothes needed for her newborn. So even though she had to give birth in a stable, she was ready to care for her infant. We can’t completely prepare for unplanned circumstances. But we can do our best and then trust the Lord with the rest.

While they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. ~ Luke 2:6-7

  1. The BFMD hit home today on how we cannot control our circumstances and surroundings. I needed that this morning as I prayed for my family. Hope you have a very joyful filled Christmas and Happy New Year as you celebrate with your family this year. Many blessings.

  2. Kay I really enjoyed your video last week on how to tie scarves. Very helpful and I will watch it again when I need to. I wish you and your family a blessed Christmas. Very good message on the devotional.
