If you’re looking for a little real life outfit inspiration for your over 50 live, maybe this roundup of my recent winter outfits will help. It’s been very cold and snowy here this week. So only one of these is an outfit I wore out and about. And yes, one day I never got out of my loungewear (and I have no photo for that day). But generally I feel better, accomplish more and stay more active if I get dressed for my day. Let’s check out my recent winter outfits for women over 50.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

I like to focus on why I wore what I wore and how I put my looks together in these weekly posts. So I may not call out each item shown. You’ll find links to anything that is available in the captions under the photos. I’ll also share fit information there IF the garment doesn’t fit true to size (TTS). I try to be transparent about gifting; gifted items are indicated with a C/O beside them, meaning they were given to me “courtesy of” that brand. Finally, I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds, so I normally wear a misses 10. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape.

What I Wore to Lunch Last Friday

The only day I got out and about was last Friday when we popped into Gorjana for little Christmas shopping and then stopped at a favorite restaurant for lunch. It was cold and comfort was key, but I wanted to look and feel a little special. So I kept my outfit minimal but chic.

sweater // turtleneck // coat // jeans // booties // purse // necklace c/o // earrings c/o

I opted for mostly black with a splash of soft camel in my sweater. I think the key to winter dressing is in the layering. My cotton turtleneck is not bulky or thick, but lays close to my body.

What I Wore at Home Saturday

Saturday we had snow coming in, so I stayed home from the holiday event I had hoped to attend. Still, I needed a little merriment. So I put on this colorful sweater I’d gotten in from Avara and began wrapping gifts to put under the tree.

The trick to a good stay-at-home outfit is keeping it comfortable but also creating a look that makes you feel pulled together and pretty. I had a lot to do on this day, so I needed to feel productive and cheerful; no lounging around. These jeans are SUPER comfortable but also very modern and flattering. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

What I Wore at Home on Sunday

Due to the snow and ice we had cancelled our church service on Sunday morning. We enjoyed a slow morning, but then we spent the afternoon shooting photos for Monday’s blog post, a tour of our home decorated for Christmas.

Goodbye!
 shirt c/o (wearing a large; use size guide) // jeans c/o (TTS) // belt // necklace // boots c/o

KMJ had gifted me this beautiful holiday print shirt and it seemed like the perfect choice for this post. I think a read commented that it looked cold. Ha! Indeed. I wouldn’t normally wear a short sleeve shirt on a cold day – we keep our thermostat quite low! But I was busy moving about and helping James to get the shots for the post, so I kept warm enough. This shirt is sold out, but the brand is worth checking out. The fabric is beautiful and they have several great silhouettes to choose from in other colors and prints.

I’d be remiss not to share that these Good American jeans are also very comfortable, fit true to size and are a modern classic silhouette. They’re a beautiful mid wash with no distressing or extreme fading.

What I Wore Monday for a Work Day at Home

It took me longer than expected to put together Monday’s blog post, so I ended up working all day in some new loungewear from Negative, a new to me brand.

waffle knit top // jogger

These coordinating separates fit beautifully and generously true to size. They’re super soft, but still look pulled together and polished. They also come in other colors. I love the Cerise red.

What I Wore to Tape a Video Tuesday

I can tell I’m on Christmas holiday time because I’m running behind on everything lately. I had the crazy notion to tape and edit Wednesday’s video on Tuesday. Well, that did not work out exactly as planned. It took me a lot longer to record the video than planned. But I decided just to go with it.

white shirt // neck scarf (no longer available) // jeans c/o // booties // earrings

I recorded the speaking part of the video in my white shirt from Brochu Walker and a pair of black pants. But after recording I untucked my shirt and slipped back into my Brighton jeans. I’m telling you, these jeans are definite new favorites. After modeling scarves all afternoon, I ended up in this bandana. It’s no longer available, but I ordered my daughter-in-law a few (larger ones) from here and I love them. I was able to get them embroidered uniquely for her.

Recent Winter Outfit for Wednesday

I worked in my office all day Wednesday so I wanted to look pulled together but also be comfortable. Video editing days entail long days at the desk. But I need to get up and move around frequently, hence the sneakers.

ribbed mock neck cashmere sweater // jeans // sneakers (and here) // pendant necklace

I opted for my Paige Stevie jeans (also available here) in the Heroes wash. These are another really good relaxed fit straight leg jean. They’re a slightly slimmer fit than the Brighton jeans above, but equally on trend. Right now, this is the silhouette that is most “in.” I topped the jeans with my cherry red ribbed mock neck cashmere sweater and completed the outfit with my Michael Kors sneakers (so comfortable! also here in more sizes).

What I Wore to Lunch on Friday

Thursday I really didn’t get dressed in anything worth sharing. I wore lounge clothes that need to be tossed honestly. I was cleaning house and wrapping gifts. But today James and I are going out for a fun holiday lunch and then I have a hair appointment. So I dressed up a little.

sweater dress (sized up; wearing a large) // belt (sized up to a large) // boots c/o (use code KAYBOOTS for $50 off your first pair of Ally boots or booties.) // earrings // bag

I’d been itching to wear this thick, yummy sweater dress since it came in just a few days ago. I did size up, but I probably could have gone true to size. I kept the outfit simple with this Ralph Lauren belt and my Ally brown boots. This felt perfect for a festive lunch at a favorite restaurant.

Thanks so much for stopping in. Hopefully these real life winter outfits for women over 50 provided a little inspiration to help you get dressed for your day. Have a great weekend!

Blessed for My Day

Do you need a little advice today? No, not the unwelcomed kind, where someone just points out something you’re doing incorrectly or a way they think is better. But maybe you’re craving a solution, a plan, a word of encouragement in a particular area of concern that is close to your heart…so close that you’ve not even voiced it to anyone else.

In this season of Good News I’d like to remind you that we have a Wonderful Counselor who can provide just what you’re looking for. Jesus is uniquely equipped to counsel you on every area of life. He brings the supreme knowledge and wisdom to the situation as God, the insight as a man who has walked this earth and the power to help you carry it out as the resurrected Savior. As you worship the Baby in the manger this Christmas season, remember that He is also your Wonderful Counselor. Take your concerns to Him and listen to His amazing counsel.

For a Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. ~ Isaiah 9:6

  1. I like all your outfits for the week. Hope you and James have a nice lunch and day out. Be careful, I live in southwest Ohio too and it’s a little slippery out there.

  2. Thank you for sharing What You Really Wear at home or running errands …. Being retired jeans are the norm for me. Yes there are days of comfy clothes, like today. Rain and snow and nowhere to go are comfy days. I love seeing your relaxed look and how you style them. Have a wonderful Christmas! 🎄

  3. I love these post. My favorite is the white blouse, scarf and denim. Love those style jeans on you and the white blouse untucked looks great. I can’t wait to buy a scarf and try your tie ideas from your video post. I’m sure you are sick of snow but I live in the Pacific NW(Oregon ) and we would love some snow this time of year. Only in the Mts. And this year it’s been a low snow year so far there too. Enjoy your Winter and family.

  4. I love the sweater dress from Tuckernuck! And the other colors available are just as attractive as the one you are wearing. Thank you for the scarf video this week. I began using your suggestions with the scarf I use with my coat – especially this weekend with wind chills in the zero to below while visiting St. Paul, MN. It was so helpful and added warmth to a chilly (or should I say freezing) walk.

    Merry Christmas.
