These Popular Jeans Will Make You Look Younger

I frequently encourage women over 50 to stop trying to look younger than they really are, but to aim for looking modern instead. When we look current, we actually look more youthful, vibrant, in the know. So keeping abreast of the trends is about more than just having fun with fashion; it’s about knowing the silhouettes, lengths and style details that will make you look more contemporary. One of the easiest ways to update our looks so that we do indeed look modern is simply to wear current denim styles. So let’s check out the most popular jeans for fall 2025.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

First let’s understand that the first step you can take in looking more modern is simply to wear jeans occasionally. Jeans continue to be THE pant here in the U.S. that will make you look in step with the times. That’s not to say you should wear them all the time, mind you. But the stylish woman has at least one or two pairs of current jeans in her closet…and knows when to use them! And if you’ll follow along with me I’ll show you ways to wear your jeans so that you still feel polished and even a little sophisticated, if you’d like.

Shopping for Jeans

If you are adding a pair of jeans or two to your closet this fall, these are the ones I suggest you try. And yes, buying great jeans that really fit and flatter requires just that…trying them on…and trying on some more! Dear friend, no one finds the perfect pair of jeans easily. There’s nothing wrong with your body. You’re not the only woman who ends up with more discarded jeans in the fitting room than in your shopping bag going home with you. It’s HARD to find that great denim that makes you feel and look like a million bucks. But you absolutely can do it. And I want to take some of the guess work out of this process for you today by sharing what to look for in each of these trending styles.

That said, I highly recommend shopping for jeans online. That’s where you can most easily find the information you’re looking for: rise (the length from the crotch to the top of your waistband), inseam (the length from the crotch to the bottom of the jean), fabric content (I like 1-2% elastane or Spandex and a good portion of cotton) and even leg opening (the circumference of the bottom of the jean). I suggest also checking out customer reviews for fit information and using the brand’s size guide, too. But I always order two sizes if I’m unsure or have no experience with a particular brand. I only recommend shopping for jeans from brands and retailers that offer generous and easy return policies, so trying on jeans in the comfort of your own home just makes so much more sense to me.

Let’s check out the popular jeans for 2025. And I’ll provide you with a few shopping and styling tips as we go. I’ve also got a shopping widget in EACH category of jeans that I’ve filled with options in a wide range of price points and size availability. And yes, many of these do come in petites, but you may need to go to the website and then check for that.

Wide Leg Full Length Jeans

Hands down, the most current silhouette of jean for fall 2025 that is also versatile and easy to wear is the wide leg full length jean. This style has been popular for a few years now and, after a couple of years of struggling to work up the courage to try them and figuring out how to make them work for their unique bodies, women of all ages are beginning to enjoy them more and more. Everywhere I go I see so many women enjoying this jean silhouette.

As you can see from the photo above, wide leg full length jeans do not have to be especially wide. Choose the leg width that works best for your body. For instance if you are petite, I suggest a slimmer wide leg that won’t overwhelm your frame.

I prefer a high rise jean. I have even proportions, but I’m 5’8″. So a high rise jean hits me at the slimmest part of my waist and gives me the best fit and feel. You know, I think we all just have different preferences about where we like our clothes to “sit on us.” Not just for the look, but also for how they feel on our bodies. I like my waistband to sit high on me. It just feels right to me, so it’s comfortable. Jeans should be comfortable. So don’t sacrifice that comfort by buying a jean that doesn’t sit where you want it to.

You may prefer a lower rise or a mid rise. So when you’re shopping for jeans online, look for that information. A low rise is generally 9 inches or below. A mid rise is around 10 inches, give or take a little depending on the jean. And a true high rise, in my experience, is 11″ or more. I love a 12″ rise, but I’ll take an 11.5″. And yes, in my experience, sometimes brands do misreport this information. For instance, L’Agence says the Scottie jeans shown at the top of this section have a 10″ rise, but I just measured them and they are indeed 11.5″. Go figure.

I guess that’s why it’s also smart to familiarize yourself with brands that do work for you and lean into those. And I have also learned a lot about jean fit by paying attention to the recommendations of bloggers like myself. So I hope I can be a similar resource for you. I’ve become quite familiar with the brands I most highly recommend, such as Mother, Frame, Paige, J.Crew and Madewell. So don’t hesitate to ask me questions about any of those if you’re considering them.

When it comes to styling wide leg full length jeans I suggest wearing something up top that is fairly form-fitting or at least less voluminous. Or, if you do wear something with volume up top, as I did with the white shirt and Madewell jeans, I suggest you tuck in the top for added definition. Hesitant to tuck in your top? Simply wear a jacket open over your top, one that grazes the body so you still have definition, but also gives disguises your tummy and girth a bit.

I’ll be sharing in next week’s YouTube video about which shoes to wear with which jean silhouettes and lengths, so stay tuned for that. But meanwhile, make sure that you have your wide leg full length jeans cut off or hemmed to a length that accommodates all the shoes you want to wear with them. (And yes, that raw hemline is still on trend, so wear it if you like.) Personally I only like to wear full length wide leg jeans with elongating booties, pointy toe heels or fashionable sneakers (not my running shoes). And if you need to wear them with a flat, I recommend a pointy toe or elongated but squared off toe. Honestly, a fashionable sneaker is one of the most on trend choices to wear with these jeans.

I’ve collected a full range of these popular jeans in the shopping widget below.

Straight Leg Full Length Jeans

Perhaps the most classic jean silhouette that is also on trend is the straight leg full length jean. This jean flatters most every woman’s body beautifully, as long as you wear the length and rise that best suits you. Of course, styling is key, too.

I have found great straight leg jeans at brands such as Talbots, J.Crew, Madewell and L.L.Bean. However, here I’m wearing The Kick It jeans from Mother (c/o) in the Fan Favorite wash. What’s trending right now in this style is a more relaxed leg, not one that fits too close to the leg.

IMPORTANT: The website says these are a high rise jean, but they report a 10.5″ rise, whereas I measured them to be an 11.75″ rise. The discrepancy is due to the fact that the measurements on the website are generally based on something like a size 26 or 27. But I wear a size 31 in these jeans (as I do in most Mother jeans), so the rise is longer. So keep that little bit of info in mind as you shop for jeans in your size.

jeans c/o

Full length straight leg jeans are fairly easy to style because you can wear something fuller up top or something more fitted, depending on the look you want to achieve. I generally still tuck my shirt into this jean style, but you can wear one untucked as long as you are mindful of the proportions you’re achieving with the combination. Finally, you can wear sneakers, loafers, booties and heels with straight leg full length jeans, but again you’ll want to be mindful of the length. (The jeans I’ve shown here came with a 32″ inseam and I cut them off to a 30.5″ inseam.) I don’t generally wear ballet flats or other similar flats with this style of jean, but you can if you like the look.

Ankle Length Jeans

Fall is a great time to wear ankle length jeans. Right now you’ll look current in both straight leg or wide leg ankle length jeans. Optimally, an ankle length jean should hit you at your ankle bone or up to 1.5″ above your ankle. Ideally you want to show a little skin between the end of your jean and the top of your shoe (unless you’re wearing a bootie). So you may have to either cut off or hem your ankle jeans to the ideal length for you.

Again look for the ankle length jean in the rise that gives you the best proportions. The higher the rise on an ankle jean, the more jean you’re going to see. Right? So in order to create an elongated look you’ll want to go with the highest rise you can comfortably wear that also works for your body. With ankle length jeans it’s a little more important to either tuck your top in or wear a top that is “cropped” so that it covers your waistband but doesn’t fall too low on your hips. Long tops that end too low will make your legs look short and throw off proportions.

Once you learn to style an ankle jeans so that it flatters your body, it’s one of the easiest jeans to wear and enjoy. You can wear so many different styles of shoes with these jeans, including sandals, all flats, low profile sneakers (again, not your running shoes), slingback heels, traditional pumps and even booties, as long as the shaft of the boot is narrow enough and high enough to fit up under the jean nicely.

Barrel Jeans

Barrel jeans continue to trend into Fall 2025. In fact, they seem to be picking up momentum as more and more women are finding ones that work nicely for them. Really the trick is nothing new. Just look for a pair in the rise and inseam that works for you. Yeah, easier said than done, right? But we’re seeing more and more of them to choose from, so it actually is getting easier.

jeans // merino wool shirt // sweater // sneakers

I found these barrel jeans from Loft to work really nicely. And since they’re 40% off, the price is really sweet. You want your barrel jeans to fit your well in the torso and then to be roomier in the leg. And you don’t want to purchase them in a length that allows a little bit of ankle to show if possible. You can wear them with sneakers, flats of all types and even heels. But if you want to wear a bootie with them you’ll need to make sure the shaft of the bootie stays up under the leg nicely. Wear your top tucked or at least close to the body.

Deep Cuff Jeans

Finally, the deep cuff jeans that we’ve been seeing for the past couple of years have just gained more popularity. I hesitated quite a while on this trending style, but I think I finally found the cuffed jean that works to my liking. The AG Kora jeans fit nice and snug in the torso and fall fairly straight in the leg, just what I’ve been looking for. And the Italian denim fabric is extremely comfortable and flattering. By the way, I wanted to mention that there is indeed a difference in the denim used by premium brands as opposed to others. You do get what you pay for (generally) when it comes to jeans. Brands such as AG use denim that is woven in such a way that, while it does have some stretch in it (2% elastane in this case), the denim still keeps its shape when you wear it. I’ve worn these jeans multiple times already and they do not stretch out.

jeans shown // more economical option // click here for outfit details

When buying quality denim you want to buy the ones that fit you the best and maybe just a little snug. They will stretch out just a tiny bit at first. But if they are a good quality denim they shouldn’t stretch out in an unflattering way at the knees, for instance, with wear. That said, especially when I’m buying a more trendy jean, I often opt for a less expensive version first to see how I like the jean silhouette. Then again, that may be a mistake because they’re just more prone not to wear as well. So it’s a real give and take when it comes to shopping for jeans you will love wearing.

Because the deep cuff on these jeans can weigh them down visually at the bottom, I think it’s smart to wear them with something a little feminine and soft up top and in your footwear. I’ve played around with styling these jeans a lot, and I’ve discovered that the best looks balance the heavy cuff with visually lighter tops and shoes. You can wear flats that shoe some ankle, low profile sneakers, heels and later heeled booties that fit up under the pants.

I hope this rundown of the most popular jeans for fall 2025 has been helpful to you. Remember, you don’t have to wear jeans every day. But sporting a pair of well-fitted, comfortable and modern jeans occasionally will make you appear more well-informed and stylish. I hope I’ve been a helpful resource in finding the jeans that you can enjoy wearing with confidence.

Blessed for My Day

Every so often I need to be told, “slow down…wait up!” I tend to walk fast and get ahead of others in my party when I’m strolling through the mall or visiting the zoo, for instance. That can be rude, for sure. But otherwise there’s little harm done.

However, when we move too fast and get ahead of the Lord, we can really mess things up. I don’t think we necessarily foil His divine plans for us. But we may delay them. Who knows what blessings we miss simply because we’re trying to get through something too fast. Do you need to slow down today and take the Lord’s hand as He patiently walks you through a season, an ordeal or a decision? Take things at His pace and enjoy the blessings that come from being in step with Him.

Wait for the Lord;
    be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the Lord! ~ Psalm 27:14

xoxo, Kay

    1. Sure. I didn’t have any to show. But those are always a great choice when you’re looking for something a little more elevated. I love styling those in a column of color with a navy top under a contrasting third piece. And they also look elevated with a pretty silk print blouse. Anything in particular you needed to know?

  1. Thank you for this helpful post. I am confused about what style jeans look right on me. I am 5’4” and have relatively thin legs. The wide leg jeans seem to look silly on me. Should I stay with straight leg jeans that have a high waist in order to look current? Your BFMD was perfect for me today.

    1. Hi Doris, when you say “relatively thin legs” do you mean that your legs are thin and your torso is thicker? I know many women with an apple shape have thinner legs. In that case a wide leg trouser jean would actually help balance your body some. You’d want jeans that fall straight from the hip but are not close fitted at all. So they may be called a straight leg or a slim wide leg. But if that’s not what you meant, let me know and I can take another shot at your question.

      1. I am not apple shape but have even proportions and weigh 128 lbs. My legs fit my body but are shapeless. The wide leg jeans seem to overwhelm my body. Thank you so much for your advice.

        1. Then I really encourage you to try the wide leg jeans again. Maybe something slim but wide. And it may just be that your eyes need to adjust to seeing yourself in something new. 🤗

  2. I’ve always had a straight leg jean in my closet. That’s a pretty classic look. But I’ve come to enjoy the trouser jean silhouette. Even as a petite, I can pull them off, it’s all about proportions. You’re absolutely correct, it does take time to find a pair that fits oneself correctly. I also have a “wide stitch” bottomed jean, where there is a stitched seam detail in lieu of the deep cuff. It doesn’t look visually heavy at the bottom, which is important given my small stature. Barrel, that’s just a no for me, personally. I really appreciate that you encourage us to stay modern, rather than trying to look “young”. Great BFMD, waiting on the Lord isn’t always easy, but His timing sure isn’t ours.

  3. I really enjoyed this today! I struggle, too, with being 5’4 and denim being overwhelming with the wide leg. I’m excited to try some new options with your always so welcomed guidance! Thank you!! 😊

  4. I LOVE jeans. I wear them daily. I’m getting more brave with the wider leg ones, as I find the right width for my 5’3″ frame. As for Waiting on the Lord, its been sooo hard with my chronic migraines for 39 yrs. I’ve prayed and prayed to be healed and haven’t. I have them almost daily and its really a struggle to live life with pain all the time. I love the Lord and trust HIM, so I keep praying. I enjoy your blog and fashion.

    1. Oh my, I’m so sorry to hear that you live with such pain. I can’t imagine, and I know that has certainly been a trial. Bless you.

  5. I like the look of the jeans with a raw hem and I saw that you trimmed a pair yourself (or had someone else do the cutting!) I’d like to know if a line of straight stitching is added near the cut edge to prevent fraying. Or maybe fraying isn’t an issue? Thank you for explaining what type of top goes best with the different jeans styles.

  6. Thank you for the great post. I really enjoy you videos and blogs on jeans and how to style them. I have been seeing more flare jeans recently and purchased a couple pairs in the Nordstrom sale and found them flattering on my body type . Wondering what your thoughts are on the style. Are the on trend for fall? Do you include this style in your wardrobe? Any thoughts on styling them?
Thanks for all the great content!

    1. Yes, flare leg jeans are definitely trending right now. I’ve decided they don’t really work for me, so I didn’t have any to show. But I would style them similarly to how I style wide leg jeans.

  7. I’m late reading this. I’m petite and wear wide leg jeans. Jcrew Factory offers slim wide leg jeans. They don’t overwhelm me. Wide leg and bootleg jeans make my short legs look longer. I will pass on the barrel and wide cuff.

  8. Which jeans feel lighter weight? I’m looking for jeans that aren’t so heavy. I’ve tried a few pair barrel jeans. They feel so much heavier. I live in Az so we need jeans that are lightweight.

    1. Of the jeans I have shown here, I’d say the barrel jeans are in fact the lightest. They feel really great on. I lived in Arizona for 15 years, and I would definitely have worn these from Loft. Also the Perfect Vintage jeans from Madewell feel fairly lightweight.

  9. Please consider the environmental implications of choosing a fabric that contains elastane, lycra or other stretch. 100% cotton and other natural fabrics will easily biodegrade. Elastane never will.

  10. Hi Kay, I have read over this particular blog a few times, it is just that good. Thank you explaining everything so well. I am a more confident woman in the way I dress now, and it is because of you. Thank you✝️
