I know I have so many readers who enjoy shopping at J.Jill. I do, too! They are known for their relaxed, coastal vibe and comfortable styles that are also stylish and a little sophisticated. I find their sizes to run a little generous, and the pieces do have a relaxed fit. I dropped into J.Jill recently to try on quite a few of their summer styles and I thought I’d share those with you today. Let’ see what I found!

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. The Low-Down on Try-On Sessions

Please keep in mind that these are photos taken on my phone in poor lighting. Also, I’ve been pulling clothes off and on in a tight space. So my hair is a mess, my makeup is melting and I look pretty kerplunked. Ha! So please just focus on the clothes and give a little grace to the lady with the phone in her hand trying to look decent in fitting room lighting. For reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 160 pounds. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape. I usually wear a size misses 10 or 30 in jeans or mediums. I’m showing all garments in those sizes unless otherwise noted.

At J.Jill I do find their sizes to run a little large. So I frequently size down to a small in tops and dresses, but often wear my true size medium in bottoms. They do have regular, petite and tall sizes available in most styles. And they carry a full range of sizes from XS to 4X. I’ll share fit information as needed and also a few notes on how things feel and what they would pair nicely with. In all photos I’m wearing these earrings and my Tory Burch Miller sandals.

The Summer Try-On Session at J.Jill

The border printed flounced-hem dress in green deco is super comfortable and easy for the summer. It does feature full sleeves with an elasticized hem that go just below the elbow. As with most J.Jill styles, this simple but pretty dress comes in regular, petite and tall sizes.

Border-Printed Flounced-Hem Dress (runs large; wearing regular M)

I’m wearing a size small in the green deco dress for a very comfortable fit, so definitely consider sizing down. I’m wearing a regular fit, as I am in all styles, and the length hits just below my knees. The fabric has a pretty drape and the dress can be machine washed and laid flat to dry.

The Pure Jill Double Gauze Midi dress shown below is full and flowy. The gauze fabric is lightweight and cool. I think the coastal blue is really pretty, but it also comes in white. I’ve sized down to a small, so consider going with your lower size.

Pure Jill Double Gauze Midi dress (runs large; wearing regular M)

The Pure Jill Double Gauze Midi dress is perfect for a coastal vacation, but also patio dinners and brunches throughout summer.

Below I’m wearing a knit seamed dress in red coral paisley etchings. This simple, comfortable summer dress actually came home with me and I wore it yesterday.

dress (went TTS regular M for a roomier fit)

I tried on the small in this dress, but decided to go with the medium instead, as shown above. The small definitely gave me more of the fit that the model has on their website, but I wanted something a little less revealing of my lumps and bumps, ahem. Constructed in 95% LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose and 5% spandex knit, this dress can be machine washed and line dried. It does come in another print and a full range of sizes and fits.

The mosaic blue linen stretch shorts shown below also came home in my shopping bag. They didn’t have a small available to try, but generally I find that mediums work well for me in J.Jill bottoms. These are slightly roomy for sure, but they feel good and look nice.

shorts (runs TTS; wearing regular M) // shirt (runs large; wearing regular S)

The Pure Jill linen collared popover above is a wardrobe basic with a fresh, summery vibe. I’m wearing a small and the fit is good. Obviously it needs to be steamed or ironed, but the shirt is classic and super soft and breezy.

shorts (TTS; wearing regular M) // shirt (TTS; wearing regular M)

Above I’m wearing the mosaic blue linen stretch shorts with a textured polo that I really regret leaving behind in the store. I did fine that the medium was a better fit in this top than the small, mainly because the longer sleeves work better for my full arms in the larger option. But the top is super soft and a elevated. It also comes in navy and is 100% cotton knit. It can be machine washed and laid flat to dry. Sizes are going fast in the white.

shorts (roomy; wearing regular M) // shirt (runs large; wearing regular S)

Above and below I’m wearing the printed rope-belt shorts in black illustrated jungle print. The sales associate I worked with said these are her favorite shorts in the store and that she loves wearing them. If you enjoy wearing a 5″ inseam in a flowy 90% cotton and 10% linen woven fabric, these are definitely chic and fun. I’m wearing the medium and the fit is generous. Honestly, I have a really hard time with J.Jill bottoms in general. I’m just between a small and a medium, so smalls generally are binding whereas mediums are sometimes a little baggy on me. That was the case here.

shorts (roomy; wearing regular M) // shirt (runs large; wearing regular S)

Above and below I’m wearing the Pima short sleeve layering tee in white. I’m wearing a small and the fit is good, so consider sizing down. The cotton tee comes in four other colors and fits close to the body but not tight or even snug.

skirt (runs large; wearing regular S) // shirt (runs large; wearing regular M)

The mitered-stripe midi skirt above is a great little A-line skirt in a lightweight linen blend. It does run large. I’m wearing a medium and they didn’t have a small in the store to try. But this skirt is about two inches too big for me in the waist. So definitely size down. But the potential is great for this skirt.

pants (TTS; wearing regular M) // shirt (TTS; wearing regular M)

The linen draw-string wide-leg pants I’m sharing above are a really nice summer option. I found them to run true to size; I’m wearing a regular medium. Keep in mind that I’m 5’8″ as you consider the length. They do come in black as well. Sizes are going fast in both colors and all fits.

pants (TTS; wearing regular M) // shirt

The crochet-trim cap-sleeve top in espresso that I’m wearing above was another favorite of the associate that was working with me. And she was right. The fit is still roomy; I sized down to a small. But the tee grazes the body and doesn’t hug it at all. It sits close to the body, but not tight. The neck detail adds interest without causing a fuss and it also come in black.

pants (TTS; wearing regular M) // shirt (runs large; wearing regular S)

Above and below I’m wearing the linen stretch slim-leg pants in pebble. I am wearing my usual size medium here for a decent fit. The waistband is roomy on me, but this is definitely the size I would stick with. I certainly don’t want to scare you away from J.Jill bottoms because many women find them to fit beautifully. Most of them just don’t work for me. So take my recommendations with that in mind. I’d say these run true to size. And the slimmer silhouette is lovely.

pants (TTS; wearing regular M) // shirt (runs large; wearing regular S)

Above I’m wearing the lightweight zebra print sweater in a regular S, so I’ve sized down as usual. This 55% linen and 45% rayon yarn fabric is light and breezy, so you can certainly wear it in most climates through the summer. I think I would like it better with white pants. Great little sweater!

Below I’m wearing the reversible tank with the linen wide-leg pants in sand dune/white, both of which I already own and love. I went with a medium in both here and they fit well. I do believe my tank at home is a small, but they didn’t have one in the store. I wear both of these summer closet essentials frequently.

jacket (runs large; wearing regular S) // shirt (TTS; wearing regular M) // pants (TTS; wearing regular M)

I’m also wearing the tissue linen open-front jacket in white. It’s also available in succulent green, but only in tall sizes evidently. I did try the medium in this jacket and it was very big. So definitely size down; I’m wearing a regular small here. I think it’s one of those pieces that would look so much better if it were properly steamed or ironed.

dress (TTS; wearing regular M)

I tried on the navy cotton gauze popover dress above in both the small and medium and ended up buying it in the medium. The small fit, but looked a little closer to the body than I felt like this dress should be. Unfortunately it looks like they only have this dress in sand dune, maroon and black on the website. I was quite surprised at how much I liked this simple shift. And the store associate said she had heard that same comment more than once.

dress (runs roomy; wearing regular S)

The Wearever A-line sleeveless dress runs only slightly large. I’m wearing the small above and would probably purchase that size if I were in need of this dress. I’ve had several of this particular style from J.Jill in the past and still have one from several years ago in my closet. It’s cool and breezy, perfect for a casual summer day.

top (runs large; wearing regular S) // skirt (runs large; wearing regular M)

I really wanted to like the linen border print tee and matching faux-wrap-front midi skirt shown above, and I might would have if I could have tried the right size. The top fits well enough once I sized down to a small, but the medium skirt is quite large on me, so it looks boxy and a little sloppy, whether I tucked in the top or not. The print is quite pretty and the fabric is light and soft. So if you’re interested in this duo I suggest sizing down in both pieces.

top (runs large; sized down to regular S) // pants (TTS; wearing regular M)

I was quite interested in the geo-stripe textured top above in cream/black, so I tried it with the black linen drawstring wide-leg pants. I’m wearing a small in the top, but it just looks kind of boxy on me. On the website the model has it tucked in, which I think looks better. But I didn’t think to try it that way. The pants fit nicely true to size and feel great.

top (runs large; wearing regular S) // pants (TTS; wearing regular M)

Finally, I’m wearing those same linen pants with a crochet layering tank in wheat. This definitely isn’t my color and I almost didn’t try it on. But really, I do these try-ons more for you than for me. And I know I have readers who enjoy wearing warmer tones. The tank is quite elegant and would add interest to a simple outfit like this one, especially if the color suits. I do like where it hits just at the top of the waist. It runs roomy; I’ve sized down to a small.

Below I’ve filled a shopping widget with all of the items shown above in my summer try-on session at J.Jill. But, since there are so many other great styles that either weren’t available in my size or not in the store at all, I’ve also added quite a few additional personal favorites from J.Jill. Just click on the photo to shop the item or to find out more information.

Blessed for My Day

There are certainly times when we need to speak up. Especially when it’s time to come to the defense of the victim, the helpless or the silenced, we can be a voice of wisdom, encouragement and reason. But the truth is, there are probably many more times when we need to keep our silence.

The Bible reminds us over and over that our words, while powerful, can also do great damage. So the wise woman knows to weigh her words carefully, to choose them deliberately, to speak them only when they will indeed do some good and not cause great harm. Wise women often listen and keep silent more than they speak.

Whoever restrains his words has knowledge,
and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding.
Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise;
when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent. ~ Proverbs 17:27-28
