June 11, 2026

You know when I title these blog posts I’m not suggesting that these clothes or styles can only or should be worn by women over 50. True style has no age limits or classifications. With a title that includes the words “for women over 50,” I’m simply trying to find my women! Here at Dressed for My Day my goal is always to embrace women over 50 and encourage them, you, to keep getting dressed for your day in a way that helps you show up your very best. I want you to feel beautiful, a little stylish, modern and authentic, so you can engage with the world around you gracefully and graciously. And to that end, I’ve created this summer capsule wardrobe. Whether you take your wardrobe cues from this curated list or go your own stylish way, I want to share with you a few style secrets that can help you have a beautiful summer, 2026.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

Let this curated summer capsule wardrobe serve as inspiration as you comb through your own closet and organize things in a way that helps you see new possibilities. You very well may have similar renditions of these very items in your wardrobe already.

But you may also see a few things that would make getting dressed this summer a little easier, more fun and even exciting. Everything shown here is shoppable. I’ve definitely taken budgets into consideration, but I’ve also only recommended items and brands that I can heartily stand behind. Let me share the full summer capsule wardrobe 2026 with you and then I’ll share a few style boards using the items in the collection.

You can actually click on the image above to shop the entire Summer Capsule Wardrobe 2026 in my ShopMy shop.

Essentials in the Summer Capsule Wardrobe 2026:

Color Palette – I’ve created a cohesive color palette that is on trend and easy to shop for this season. But don’t be afraid to throw in an item or two that doesn’t necessarily “go with” everything else. That’s why it’s perfectly fine and fun to add something like the grenadine red Organic-Linen Split-Collar Dress.

Solo Tops – Make sure your summer wardrobe has several stylish tops you can wear without layering or tucking. Some days it’s just too hot for either. So these need to be tops with interesting details, lengths that help you achieve good proportions, elevated tailoring and colors you love.

Consider Your Lifestyle – Plan a summer wardrobe that gives you lots of stylish possibilities for your real, everyday lifestyle. You absolutely can look pretty and even fashionable while you garden, run errands, care for grandkids, take care of your home and cook for your family. Do you stylishly!

A Note About the Flowers

Since receiving the most gorgeous birthday flowers (that lasted a full two weeks!) from a work associate via Urban Stems, I’ve struck up a relationship with the brand. Urban Stems is a flower, plant and gift delivery service that delivers above and beyond. This week they sent my husband James this plant and it arrived healthy, strong and vibrant. But they also wanted to send you something. So you can use code KayFD26 just through Father’s Day (06/21/26) and receive 15% off your purchase. I’m share just a small selection of their gorgeous flowers and plants available for shipping in the style boards below.

How the Summer Capsule Wardrobe 2026 Works Together

This blog post would go on and on if I shared every outfit combination I could create from it. So we’ll just run through about a dozen of them to spark your imagination. Green is trending big this summer, and I think it looks fresh and vibrant, especially when paired back to crisp white and accents of black.

If you have black sandals, you could wear those with the outfit above, too. But the flesh tone sandals will serve you well over and over. Below I’ve created another summer outfit with green and white, this time with an easy skirt pairing. Truly, these pieces from Alex Mill were made to go together. But they’ll also mix and match with other items in the closet.

In next week’s YouTube video I’m sharing the secret to wearing skirts. So stay tuned. But meanwhile, trust me when I say that a cotton sweater vest that hits right on the top of your hips is a no-fail option, especially if it grazes the torso for a beautiful silhouette.

Below see the Liberty of London print blouse that is on my list! I don’t have this one in my closet yet, but I’m on the waiting list for my size. Meanwhile, it does come in a cheerful pink and yellow combo, too.

Don’t hesitate to mix natural fiber fabrics during the summer. Wearing all linen can get a little monotonous and look a little flat. But when you combine it with cotton or silk you’ll create a texturally rich look that is more elevated and interesting.

Above I’d wear the floral shirt unbuttoned over the tank with the linen skirt. What a pretty combination that will look casual but also feminine and effortless. The outfit combination below is equally feminine with the ruffled shirt and figure-flattering white cotton pants.

I do own a lot of the items in this summer capsule wardrobe, but not all. And from my experience ordering this items online, I suggest you use the size guidelines for each brand to get your perfect fit. I do want to point out that I generally size down in Eileen Fisher to a small. But everywhere else I either wear my true size medium (10) or I size up to a large (because the brand considers a size 10 to be a large).

When you don’t know what to wear, go monochromatic. These outfits always look the most interesting, the most elevated and the easiest on the eyes.

The sweater top above is a smart purchase for summer because it helps you create beautiful looks without tucking. But it’s also soft and mostly cotton. Keep in mind that almost everything I’ve selected for our summer capsule wardrobe comes in additional colors and sometimes prints or patterns. For instance, the white linen shorts above are also available in navy and flax.

dress // shoes // earrings // necklace // necklace // bracelet // bag // plant

I’ve included several dresses in our summer capsule wardrobe because they are easy one-and-done outfits for warm days. Style them different ways simply by changing out the shoes, jewelry and other accessories. Oh, and don’t forget the slip shorts! I have my favorite in the capsule wardrobe shopping page.

I leaned heavily into green for this summer capsule wardrobe, but you could choose a different color for your primary splash of vibrance. The key is to pick a color you enjoy wearing and that looks good on you, but also one that is plentiful in stores this year. That way you’ll have more options to stock your closet if you need new buys.

That said, don’t hesitate to wear all neutrals occasionally, if you like. I do like. A neutral toned outfit generally feels like a refreshing “palette cleanser” to me after a few days of wearing color. Plus the black and white gingham separates mix and match nicely with colorful items in the wardrobe, too.

shirt // shorts // shoes // bag // necklace // necklace // earrings // flowers

I have the linen drawstring shorts above in the rich brown. They fit true to their size guide and are the perfect length. They’re on trend and stylish, but also feel like shorts for a woman, not a teenager. Know what I mean?

And don’t forget to have at least one solid black or navy summer dress that is polished enough to dress up but also simple enough to dress down with sandals or sneakers. I have the dress below in black, and I wear the size medium in that one.

This summer capsule wardrobe is not necessarily meant to be an exclusive collection. Instead, I see it as a starting place with all the essentials you’ll need build multiple outfits all summer. I definitely have more than this in my closet for the season, but these are the building blocks upon which I’ve created a collection that is versatile and enjoyable.

Blessed for My Day

When my husband’s plant arrived from Urban Stems, the sweet note read, “The best gifts keep on growing.” I like that. I thought it was a delightful play on words and, indeed, plants and flowers do make lovely gifts. But the note also reminded me of another gift that continues to bear fruit after it is given.

Grace. When we give someone grace, we open up something that has been shut down. We refresh possibilities where it felt like all hope was lost. Grace does indeed cost a “pretty penny” for the one who gives it. But true grace comes with no strings attached to the receiver and it feels like the most exquisite gift ever. Is there someone in your life who could use a little grace, especially from you? If you have experienced the grace of God through Jesus Christ, then you have grace to give to others as well.

bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. ~ Colossians 3:13
