How I Really Dressed for My Day This Week

This week was a whirlwind of work and getting ready to head out of town. Friday I flew to Georgia to visit family for the next week. So the work week was packed with appointments, working from home and a fun morning event in the community. Let’s see how I really dressed for a summer week that included work, several appointments, a social gathering and travel.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

I like to focus on why I wore what I wore and how I put my looks together in these weekly posts. So I may not call out each item shown. You’ll find links to anything that is available in the captions under the photos. I’ll also share fit information there IF the garment doesn’t fit true to size (TTS). I try to be transparent about gifting; gifted items are indicated with a C/O beside them, meaning they were given to me “courtesy of” that brand. Finally, I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds, so I normally wear a misses 10. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape.

What I Wore Out and About Last Friday

If Friday’s skirt and t-shirt outfit looks familiar to you, it may be because you saw it in last week’s daily outfit post. Yes, I absolutely did we this simple but smart dark blue outfit two days in a row. Do you ever do that when you enjoy wearing something so much?

Friday I hit the mall for extensive YouTube prepping. Saturday I shot two videos, including one for next Wednesday about styling skirts for the summer. So you know you’ll see this easy-breezy look show up there, too. I sized down to a small in the skirt, as I usually do with Eileen Fisher. But I wore my true size medium in the ribbed tee for a nice fit. The top is a really good one, by the way, and I’m quite tempted to purchase another in the cornflower blue.

What I Landed in Saturday

Since I recorded this week’s wedding guest dress video and next week’s video about wearing summer skirts, I was in and out of numerous outfits all day Saturday. But for the speaking portion of the final video, I wore this pointelle sweater top and cotton blend pants outfit. It was a good one to land on since it’s comfortable and simple.

When I wear white pants or shorts, I generally don’t like to wear anything to dark up top. Remember, lighter colors will generally appear larger while darker ones recede visually. At the same time, I don’t want to always wear pale tops with my white bottoms. So I lean into tops that grab the focus visually with interesting details, like this pointelle sweater top.

What I Wore Sunday Morning

I got dressed for church Sunday morning, but ended up not going after all. But even though I pivoted on my activity I ended up wearing this comfortable linen pencil skirt and cotton sweater vest. This could be a smart work outfit for summer, but it’s easy enough to wear for low-pressure days as well.

The color of this sweater vest is more soft buttery yellow than it appears here I think. I’m wearing a large per their size guide, but I’ve since ordered another one in ivory with navy stripes in a medium. The skirt runs true to size. I completed the look with my Ally Mary Jane flats. LOVE these flats…so comfortable and the color is perfection. You can use code KAYFLATS at Ally for 10% off your first pair of flats.

What I Wore Sunday Afternoon & Evening

Somewhere along the way on Sunday I did end up changing clothes. I had a lot of video editing to do, so probably after lunch I changed into this super soft and cozy, but equally smart lounge set.

The Marisol short sleeve top and matching crop pants are the kind of loungewear I enjoy wearing on summer evenings at home, but I frequently wear them on Sunday afternoons after church as well. They’re in a soft, comfortable polyester and cotton blend, so they’re easy to care for. And they come in other colors, as well. By the way, that summer catch necklace is a great example of one of the biggest micro trends I’m seeing for summer: the fish! Who knew that fish could be so stylish, lol? If you only add one piece of jewelry to your collection this summer, truly, make it this sweet necklace. I like that this one has “movement” and it comes in silver, too. You can use code TAKE20 for 20% off, too.

What I Wore for a Day at the Computer

Monday we started the day with an early morning photo shoot, in which we took pictures for Tuesday’s blog post about wearing denim shorts. It was a hot, hot day, so I decided to stay in my shorts and this new cotton shirt for the rest of the day.

The shirt is aptly named the “all day easy shirt” with its super soft cotton poplin fabric and relaxed silhouette. It also comes in a nice blue stripe and a classic white.

What I Wore Out to Dinner

Monday night we met up with friends for dinner at a favorite restaurant. We all decided to get a little dressed up for the occasion, so it was a good opportunity to wear my new Veronica Beard skirt. Swoon! I was a little unsure about how this skirt would look on, but once I’d steamed it, it draped beautifully.

For some reason I’m just really into skirts this summer. This one feels like a special occasion with the gold threading that is sprinkled throughout. It fits true to size; I’m wearing a 10 comfortably. I wore it back to a simple but elegant ivory cowl neck top and summery sandals. This outfit felt like perfection that evening and it was so fun to step out a little dressed up.

My Tuesday Outfit of the Day

Tuesday was just a normal day of working from home. Again it was steamy hot. Of course I spent most of the day inside, but I still wanted to be summer fresh and cool. So I wore linen drawstring pants and a fun graphic tee.

I kept this look simple as it is with favorite sandals and jewelry.

What I Wore Wednesday Morning

Wednesday morning I worked from home before heading out for appointments in the afternoon. I just realized that I wore this butter yellow button-front vest again. I brought it with me to Georgia, too. I guess I really like it! I think I’m drawn to the simplicity of this top and how it works so nicely with many things in my wardrobe. It’s really the perfect length.

For this casual at-home look I paired the sweater vest back to dark brown linen shorts, also from the same brand. These shorts are super comfortable and nicely polished. They’re the ones I recommended in my Summer Capsule Wardrobe, but there I listed them in navy. I used their size guide and ordered the large.

What I Wore for Appointments Wednesday Afternoon

Since I was preparing to be out of town for a while, I had manicure and pedicure appointments Wednesday afternoon. And I also had errands to run.

I simply changed out my brown shorts for a white linen skirt. I also changed into my cognac sandals because I felt like they added a little more depth to the outfit. And they coordinated nicely with the bag I wanted to carry. By the way, you can use code KAY12 at Parisa Wang to save 12% on their beautiful bags. I just got this one in cream and brought it with me to Georgia.

What I Wore to An Event Thursday

By Thursday I had most of my work done for the week, but I had a busy day planned out and about. I attended and served at a Christian women’s speaker series event that morning. It was so fun and refreshing to be around over a hundred other Christian women. I helped greet women as they arrived and hosted a table. I felt cool and pretty in my blue print dress.

Shortly after receiving my Tilly Sveaas T-Bar necklace, I saw Anne Hathaway’s character in The Devil Wears Prade 2 wearing a similar necklace with a pearl necklace throughout the movie. I fell in love with that look. Since I had a sizable credit at Ring Concierge, I purchased this one to create a similar look. I have a feeling this is going to be a duo I wear on repeat. In fact, I wore it to Georgia. Love!

Well that’s a wrap! I’ll save Friday’s travel look to share with you next week. Let me know if you have any questions. And thank you so much for dropping in. Have a blessed and beautiful weekend.

Blessed for My Day

We could be inclined to believe that because we are older we’re no longer susceptible to temptation. Yes, we’ve been around the block a few times, learned some lessons the hard way and sworn off a few wrong paths. But the Bible has multiple reminders that “all have sinned,” and we’re not immune just because we’re “old.”

As I was reading in 1 Kings recently I was reminded of the sad story of King Solomon. He had such a hopeful start – asking God for wisdom rather than riches. He built a magnificent temple for the Lord and exercised much wisdom. He accumulated wealth and admirers. But in the end, even when he was old, his wives turned his heart away after other gods. Let’s beware lest we also succumb to the wiles of the devil or the lures of the world.

For when Solomon was old, his wives turned his heart away after other gods; and his heart was not wholly devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been. ~ 1 Kings 11:4

  1. Have a fun trip. You are blessed to have both parents alive and well. I lost my dad to a fall off a ladder when I was 36 yrs old and now my mom is 87 yrs old in memory care and doesn’t really know me. Hard. Cherish your week with them, as I know you will. We head Monday to see two of our three adult kids and our grandkids so I’m excited for that.

  2. I hope you have a great time with your parents. Love the devotional messages. As we get older maybe not tempted by sins of the flesh but there’s always going to be pride. Love the graphic t-shirt. I’m drawn to graphic t’s.
