Recently I dropped in at Ann Taylor for a summer try-on session. They have so many beautiful things on their website, including garments that are perfect for work, special occasions, vacation and everyday. I tried on mostly items in their Weekend Collection, but a few other things did sneak into my fitting room, too. Let me show you what I found. Right now you can get up to 40% off select full-price styles at Ann Taylor.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

The Low-Down on Try-On Sessions

Please keep in mind that these are photos taken on my phone in poor lighting. Also, I’ve been pulling clothes off and on in a tight space. So my hair is a mess, my makeup is melting and I look pretty kerplunked. Ha! So please just focus on the clothes and give a little grace to the lady with the phone in her hand trying to look decent in fitting room lighting. For reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 160 pounds. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape. I usually wear a size misses 10 or 30 in jeans or mediums. I’m showing all garments in those sizes unless otherwise noted.

Throughout the try-on session I’m wearing my Tory Burch Miller sandals, my pearl station necklace, my cloud earrings, my T-bar necklace, along with this bracelet and this one. And yes, the lights in the room made me look rather red, lol. But I assure you I’m fine. Hahaha!

Ann Taylor Summer Try-On Session

We’re going to run through these selections from Ann Taylor fairly quickly. I’ll comment on fit only if needed and anything that struck me about the item. Otherwise, I’ll let you decide for yourself if you like the look of something. Keep in mind that a number of the items need to be steamed and I would probably wear quite a few of them with different things instead of what I’m showing here. I was just doing the best I could to match up items in the fitting room so I could share a variety with you.

Tie Waist Blouse in Linen (roomy; misses medium) // Wrap Midi Skirt in Linen Blend (TTS; misses 10)

The Wrap Midi Skirt in Linen Blend is a favorite, especially if you’re looking for a pretty skirt for a special occasion. It desperately needs to be ironed, but it has a lot of potential. I probably would not suggest wearing it with the Tie Waist Blouse in Linen, which was quite roomy on me. But keep in mind that I am very small busted (a B cup on a good day), and I think if you are more ample in the bosom you’d fill it up a little better. Still that top just runs a tad big I think, too.

Tank Top in Linen Blend (TTS; misses medium) // Wrap Midi Skirt in Linen Blend (TTS ; misses 10)

The Tank Top in Linen Blend is a pretty little top, but I probably wouldn’t wear it untucked like this. It’s a little too boxy and loose fitting for that. But with the right high waisted linen trousers it could look really pretty.

eyelet tie-front top (TTS; misses medium) // ankle pant in seersucker (TTS; misses 10)

Tie-front tops continue to be very on trend, but I like this one better than most because it does have a panel of fabric at the opening that allows for a little more modesty. It fits true to size and is a nice length and silhouette. I came home with the ankle pant in seersucker. They are such a nice fit and the fabric has gentle stretch for all day comfort.

split neck polo top (TTS: misses medium) // ankle pant in seersucker (TTS; misses 10)

The split neck polo top above is a nice option for these pants, too. I already have a similar one or I would have purchased it. I especially like the length, which is right at the hip on me. This is a simple top that could give you a lot of mileage in your wardrobe.

Floral Midi Wrap Dress in Linen Blend (TTS; misses medium)

The Floral Midi Wrap Dress in Linen Blend definitely has potential. I wish it were properly steamed, but alas it still seems to have packing folds in it. The dress fits nicely true to size and is lined. It actually has a back zip for on and off. It would be a nice choice for a summer wedding or just a date night.

ruffle collar lace sleeveless shirt (TTS; misses medium) // The Statement Palazzo Pant in Linen Blend (TTS; misses 10)

I also purchased the ruffle collar lace sleeveless shirt shown above. Tops like this that look a little basic but also have interesting details pair back to other elevated basics so nicely. It fits true to size and will be quite versatile in my wardrobe. The Statement Palazzo Pant in Linen Blend are quite wide and fairly long, too. I wouldn’t be able to wear them with flats and I’m 5’8″. They are a pretty blue linen blend and they fit true to size in the waist and hips.

ruffle collar lace sleeveless shirt (TTS; misses medium) // Weekend Easy Fit Wide-Leg Pant in Linen Blend (TTS; misses medium)

The navy linen pants above are the Weekend Easy Fit Wide-Leg Pant in Linen Blend. They are a little shorter, so nice with sandals. They do have an elasticized waist band and a generous fit.

Below I’m wearing a Weekend Bubble Hem Tank Top in Linen Blend. This is not really a style I would naturally reach for, but I was a little desperate for tops to try on with the many pants and skirts I had accumulated in the fitting room. I was just reminded that day why I prefer shopping on line…really for many reasons. But so many things were not available in my size. And when I look at the website, they have so many more selections than in the stores. The Weekend Bubble Hem Tank Top in Linen Blend does fit true to size and is a nice option when you don’t want to tuck in a shirt, but you want those nice proportions. That said, I’d probably wear it with a pencil skirt rather than wide leg pants.

Weekend Bubble Hem Tank Top in Linen Blend (TTS; misses medium) // The Relaxed Wide-Leg Jean (TTS to a little roomy; misses 10)

The Relaxed Wide-Leg Jean is indeed a very relaxed fit, but they are a soft, lightweight denim that is nice for summer. They fit true to size.

Striped Sleeveless Essential Shirt (TTS; misses medium) // weekend wide ankle pant (TTS; misses 10)

The Striped Sleeveless Essential Shirt and weekend wide ankle pant above are more my speed. I really liked these pants, but they did feel just a tad snug on me in the crotch. I think it had more to do with the rise and where the waist band sits (just below the waist – not a high rise) than fit. So I would say if you like a mid rise pant these will fit true to size. They’re a great cotton ankle pant. And I also like that Striped Sleeveless Essential Shirt a lot – such a classic wardrobe staple.

Weekend Easy Fit Wide-Leg Pant in Linen Blend (TTS; misses medium) // Weekend Toile Shirt in Linen Blend (wearing misses small)

Okay, things get a little dicey here because my sizes were not available in the things I wanted to try on with these items. Still, I wanted to share them with you. I’m wearing the Weekend Toile Shirt in Linen Blend, but I’m wearing a small. It does fit, so I guess it runs generous. I like the way they show it on the website worn open with a tank underneath. I’m wearing it with the Weekend Easy Fit Wide-Leg Pant in Linen Blend. I probably would not pair these two, but the pants are good and they run true to size.

Weekend Toile Shirt in Linen Blend (wearing misses small) // Weekend Printed Full Midi Skirt (TTS; misses 10)

I couldn’t find anything in my size to show with the Weekend Printed Full Midi Skirt, so I just tried it with the Weekend Toile Shirt in Linen Blend. I think it could be worn this way??? But I’m not sure it would be my first choice. That said, the skirt is a pretty one and fits nicely true to size.

crewneck sweater shell (TTS; misses medium) // weekend wide ankle pant (TTS; misses 10)

Above I’m back in the weekend wide ankle pant with a simple but pretty crewneck sweater shell. I actually had wanted to show the crewneck sweater shell in other colors with a few of my other selections, but the only one in my size was the navy.

split neck polo top (TTS: misses medium) // the city short (fit snug; misses 10)

I’m pretty sure I’m in the the city short above, but they look a little longer on me. They didn’t fit great, so I would definitely size up. But I remember from the past that Ann Taylor shorts are very nice and classic. They just didn’t have a good selection in my size that day.

Ric Rac Midi Skirt in Linen Blend (TTS; misses 10) // Tie Waist Tee (TTS; misses medium)

Finally, above I’m wearing the white Tie Waist Tee, which comes in other colors, with the Ric Rac Midi Skirt in Linen Blend in natural flax with white ric rac. So fresh and pretty! I love this skirt and almost purchased it. But I have about four linen skirts at this point and just couldn’t rationalize it. But if you haven’t purchased one yet, this is such a pretty choice. It fits true to size.

I find so many more beautiful and sporty selections on the Ann Taylor website. So I’ve gathered the items shown above along with additional personal favorites in the shopping widget below. Let me know if you have any questions about items shown; I’d be glad to help. You’ll get up to 40% off full-price styles right now at Ann Taylor.

Blessed for My Day

The pastor of my parents’ church preached an excellent sermon yesterday centered around how Jesus builds and loves His church. His sermon launched from the old testament book of Ezra, but he tied it beautifully to Jesus, our Savior and the cornerstone of the church. At some point he drew our attention to Ezra 4:4-5 and highlighted four ways Satan tries to prevent (to no avail) the growth of God’s church.

Sister, beware. Satan is very actively trying to discourage the people of God even today. You may have also noticed that Satan tries to plant fear in the hearts of God’s people. More times than I can count I’ve seen Satan use money to bring friction and disagreement among God’s people. And if nothing else works, the enemy will try to make individuals in the church frustrated with their congregation so they throw up their hands and leave. Don’t be a victim to Satan’s schemes. Now you know his tactics; be on guard.

Then the people of the land discouraged the people of Judah and made them afraid to build and bribed counselors against them to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia. ~ Ezra 4:4-5

  1. I read ur blog on my iPad. Many times the links to items do not work. Very frustrating but it does save me a lot of money! I don’t know if this happens because I’m using my iPad rather than a laptop. I wonder if it happens to other subscribers too.

    1. The links should work on your iPad, but you could have some settings on there that are preventing them from going through. No one else has said anything to me about this. But I do have an iPad and will try to remember to test things out there occasionally.
