Because summer may be a shorter season for many of us (depending on where you live, of course), I think it’s generally smart to invest less in our summer wardrobes. But even if you live in one of the southern states or somewhere else that is warm much of the year, you may want to stretch your summer wardrobe by purchasing separates that you can also wear during spring and/or fall. In fact, I like to shop for three seasons as much as possible. So today I’m sharing some beautiful new summer-to-fall floral print separates that I’ve styled two ways.

I am trying more and more to invest in good quality pieces for my wardrobe and purchase fewer items. That’s another reason I think it’s wise to look for multi-season garments and accessories when building a wardrobe. It’s good economics and it cuts down on waste. But enough dollars and cents! Let’s talk about these pretty summer-to-fall floral print separates from Halogen, one of my favorite Nordstrom house brands.

The Halogen brand is known for its “affordable work-to-weekend apparel, shoes and accessories that combine modern, feminine details with clean styling.” And this is one of the brands that I frequently shop in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (coming soon!). In the past, I’ve purchased their cashmere sweaters, tops, scarves, belts and blazers. You may want to check out more from this brand here.

I was immediately drawn to this summer-to-fall floral print surplice sleeveless blouse and the coordinating pull-on midi length skirt. The blouse and skirt actually come in three pretty prints, and I think they all would work for multiple seasons. This warm espresso floral print surplice sleeveless blouse also comes in plus sizes, but I didn’t see a plus size option for the skirt. I’m wearing my TTS medium in both pieces.

I was attracted to these warm espresso print separates because I could tell I could mix and match them with other things in my wardrobe to create multiple stylish looks, both for work/church and casual settings.

I did want you to see how this top works, so I took a photo with it untucked (below). You absolutely can wear it untucked for a long-waisted silhouette, but I tucked the blousy top and then fluffed a little. In fact, one of the things I especially like about this top is that you can play with it a little to create the look that best suits your body type. It has a very functional snap to keep it closed, but you could also take needle and thread and secure it even more.

Today I’m sharing two looks featuring both the summer-to-fall floral print surplice sleeveless blouse and the coordinating pull-on midi length skirt. With both outfits I simply elevated the look or made it more casual with different jackets and shoes. The ivory unstructured blazer is a workhorse in my wardrobe, and it’s another Nordstrom house brand, Open Edit. The blazer is on sale in this versatile ivory and in black. But it comes in a handful of other hues, too. It’s unlined and fits true to size, perfect for three seasons. The tan nougat and the brown toffee blazers would also probably work with this warm espresso floral.

With that first look I wore my prowess pearl suede block heel pumps from Ally. But any nude heels or sandals would work nicely for this office inspired look. Remember, you get $40 off your first pair of Ally heels with code KAYHEELS. Use their handy size tool for the best fit.

Summer to Fall Floral

I completed the look with dainty jewelry from Gorjana. I thought these feminine gold pieces worked well with the pretty print. You can shop items in my outfits through the links in the photo captions or in the shopping widget at the bottom of the post.

Next I created a more casual look, but I still wore both the floral print blouse and the midi skirt. I topped the duo with my light wash (Jeanie) Levi’s denim jacket and wore my Sarah Flint Natalie sling-back flats in petal calf, a pale nude pink. You can get $60 off your first pair of Sarah Flints with code SARAHFLINT-BAKAYH. For a slightly more economical option, check out these Sarah Flint Natalie flats in pink snake.

With this outfit I wore my Julie Vos jewelry. I’m wearing the Antonia hinge bangle, the Fern delicate gold necklace and the Catalina gold X stud earrings.

Let’s revisit the Halogen floral blouse and the midi skirt. I wanted to remark that they both fit very comfortably and can easily be worn with other pieces. In fact, I’ve already shot photos for tomorrow’s post, in which I’ll style the midi skirt with two other tops. And next week I’ll style the surplice sleeveless blouse with additional options.

Oh, but I do need to let you know that the midi skirt is sheer and unlined. So I did wear a slip with it. Easy peasy. The top is not lined either, but it didn’t seem to need a camisole or slip, probably because the sun doesn’t shine through it like it does the skirt. So I’ll confidently wear it with pants without a camisole underneath.

You can check out the pieces I’ve shared today as well as the others I found in this summer-to-fall floral print through the shopping widget below. And if you have any questions I failed to answer here, don’t hesitate to ask in the comments.

Thanks so much for dropping in today. I hope you enjoyed the post. And be sure to check back with me tomorrow and later next week to see other ways I styled these summer-to-fall floral separates.

Blessed for My Day

Do you ever feel like you just don’t have enough to do what you need to do? Enough strength. Enough money. Enough wisdom or knowledge. Enough experience. Enough connections. Enough courage. I know I have wondered how in the world I was supposed to do what I knew God was calling me to do with the little I had.

The good news is that God specializes in accomplishing amazing things through those who don’t seem to have enough. In fact, He sometimes strips from our hands the very things we think we need in order to accomplish what we must do. It may seem like God is setting you up for failure when He does that. But trust me, He’s really setting the stage for something beyond your imagination, something that only He could get the credit for. So don’t be afraid that you have too little. Instead, trust God to do something truly big with the little you have. In the end all you need is faith in Him and obedience.

The Lord said to Gideon, “You have too many men. I cannot deliver Midian into their hands, or Israel would boast against me, ‘My own strength has saved me.’ ~ Judges 7:2

xoxo, Kay

  1. ❤️for your choice of dress + jackets , you really suit the colour . And 🙏🏻❤️for the BFMD , how very True Xx

  2. Hi Kay, just love this outfit, it will be perfect here in NC well into fall when I want it to be fall like but we are still battling the heat. And then when it does get cooler a jacket or cardigan will top it off nicely. Thanks for reminding me that I can look like fall even if it doesn’t feel like fall!

  3. First and foremost, that sure was a BIG announcement yesterday. I’m so happy for all of you, you will love being a MiMi. Congratulations!
Love all your posts…I look forward to reading them every morning with my coffee! So I do “coffee with Kay” most every day!

  4. Congratulations on your impending “Mimi-hood”! I am Mimi, too! Today’s outfit is nice – cool and fall colors. Very versatile.

  5. I didn’t think I liked this outfit, at first; However, after realizing it was two pieces and looking more carefully at the colors. I may purchase this. Your right is it a great transition piece for summer through fall. I would style it with my flax linen blazer–not white or cream. I could divide the outfit into parts, which is perfect for travel. I have a great pink sweater. and espresso jeans, which would give this a new life. Thank you for all your good suggestions. You are helping me look more polishedin my daily life.

  6. What a great outfit, Kay! I am going to check out the top & skirt, for sure. I will also need to purchase a half slip to wear with the skirt. Wishing you a beautiful day!

  7. Thank you for today’s BFMD. Today I’m feeling “not enough” in so many areas of my life. Thank you for the reminder of God’s faithfulness. Also, really cute top/skirt. Looking forward to how you’ll style it tomorrow.

  8. Thank you for this post! I love the warm colors of this outfit on you and a perfect transition into fall. I went to the Nordstrom site to look at it and possibly purchase it. The description read “lined.” I’m glad you said it is not lined so that I am better prepared for a half slip! Thanks❤️

  9. I love the idea and the look of dresses with sneakers. I wear my sporty dresses with my leather slip on keds and they feel great. I hope you will do a video of how you pack for your trip to England. I know Shelly requires just a carry-on , no checked bags so when you start preparing for your trip will you share that with us? I’m going to the Cotswold with her in May 2024. ! Just signed up today !!!

  10. I was devastated when I received this outfit and tried it on me. You are so right about proportion etc. I was entirely smitten with this and loved the print but the lines were all wrong. Flowy stuff just looks sloppy on me. I will be taking the time to go through your “course” on style over the next few days. Thanks for the advice that it’s not us just the clothes and that some clothes will look great on some but not all!

    1. Oh my. I’m so sorry to hear that. Did you play around with the top some? Well, I’m sure you did. Fortunately Nordstrom has free returns and makes it pretty easy. Yes, we really do have to consider what works best for us. But we’re all going to try on things with high hopes occasionally and then have them not work. Trust me, it happens to me almost daily because I order a lot of things to share. I’d say 75% of what I order you ladies never even see. 😉
