Summer Sandal Trend I’m Loving

I don’t know if the intel wasn’t available at the time or I just missed it. But I absolutely did not pick up on one of the hottest summer sandal trends in my Spring Sandals report earlier this year. Just lately I started seeing raffia sandals EVERYWHERE. On women’s feet and online. And I quickly fell in love with this fresh, earthy and fun summer sandal trend. I think they look very feminine, but also a little whimsical and so summery. So today I’m sharing how I styled mine with a cool summer outfit.

Shopping Raffia Sandals

My Keri raffia sandals feature a somewhat traditional strappy design made from 100% straw. I knew these shoes would be both comfortable and functional (since they have a heel strap), so I went with these.

But I’ve found you a boatload of raffia sandals from everywhere from Nordstrom to Amazon to Saks to Walmart. Yes, they’re absolutely everywhere! Check out the shopping widget below.

Styling Raffia Sandals

Honestly, I think you can wear these trending summer sandals most anyway you want to. They can look very casual or a little elevated, depending on how you pair them. Later this week I’m sharing a post about the art of pairing shoes with outfits. But I suggest you just play around with styles in your closet and see how these raffia sandals change them up a bit.

Keri raffia sandals

My Keri raffia sandals definitely take this otherwise polished linen outfit to a more casual feel. They have a distinctly summery look, making any outfit look a little more “vacation-ready.” I think they give an outfit a sort of laid back, holiday look. By the way, these sandals run true to size for a slightly snug fit at first. But they stretch to fit your foot well with wear. They also come in a summer mint and neutral combo. And you also might enjoy this fun Keri raffia slides. Remember, at Talbots you can get everything 30% off today. And use code SUMMER to get one item 40% off.

Summer Linen Outfit

My summer outfit is comprised of these demi boot linen pants in navy, a linen slub tank from my closet (similar) and this linen jacket. Everything fits true to size and very comfortably. The linen pants also come in a brighter blue, flax and soft aqua, and they have them in petite sizes, too.

Summer Linen Outfit

I especially love my linen jacket. It has a soft drape and is a perfect topper for going in and out of air conditioned spaces during hot summer days. It also comes in a soft pink, pretty blue and flax in a full range of sizes. Today at Talbots they’re offering 30% off everything and you’ll get 40% off your highest priced item in your cart with the unadvertised code SUMMER.

For this simple but elevated summer look I added some pretty drop earrings and a layered necklace (similar option) along with my Nordgreen watch and a gold bangle. (Be sure to use code KAYHRMS at Nordgreen for 15% off your purchase.) The drop earrings and gold bangle are both from Kendra Scott where they’re having a Long Weekend Sale. You’ll get 20% off one item or 25% off two or more. I prefer Kendra Scott for elevated casual jewelry that is modern but classic.

I carried my Kate Spade woven satchel, which is 40% off at Nordstrom. My bet is they have a limited supply since I’ve already seen it sell out once and they are no longer available at Kate Spade. However, Kate Spade does have some other beautiful bags, and right now you can get up to 40% off your purchase there, too.

Thanks so much for dropping in today. I hope you have a lovely Memorial Day as we pay honor to those who have given so much for our nation’s freedoms.

Blessed for My Day

I’ve really been working on my anxiety with riding in the car. I don’t feel anxious when I drive, and I don’t feel anxious when James or anyone else is driving on back roads. But when we get on the highways with speeding vehicles whizzing by and semi trucks seemingly invading our space, I get quite fretful. My doctor did prescribe a mild medication for this condition and I have taken it occasionally. But I truly believe that most of our emotional issues and even many of our physical illnesses have at least some root in our spiritual condition. So I’ve been spending time in prayer and Bible meditation to bring peace and calm in this area of my life.

I find that fears can creep into areas of our lives unexpectedly at different times of life. Whether that’s a direct attack from the enemy of our souls or just a phase of life, I don’t know. But I do know that the way to combat emotional extremes is with truth. When we meditate on the truth of God’s Word we do our part by guarding and fortifying our minds. And the Holy Spirit does His part in guarding and fortifying our hearts. If you have a fear that is causing you anxiety or making you miss out on parts of life, I encourage you to find the truth in God’s Word and memorize that truth. Repeat it throughout the day. Think on it. And allow God to use it to change your thinking and your heart. And yes, I’m having great success with this in my life. I’m truly feeling so much less anxious as a passenger in the car.

In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? ~ Psalm 56:4

xoxo, Kay

  1. Kay,
    Happy Memorial Day !
It doesn’t seem as if the link to your linen jacket works. Takes you to J Crew tank tops.
    Thanks, Cathy

  2. Kay, I have the same anxiety. I make sure the house is all put together and tidy before we go. There is no guarantee we will return. To visit family in south TX (from northeast TX), it’s a thousand mile round trip. We have been traveling on I-35 but it has gotten extremely dangerous. We will now go down through the smaller towns with prayer and fingers crossed.
The sandals are very cute but I wish Talbots stocked their shoes for try-on purposes. Finicky feet here.

  3. What a nice outfit and your sandals are fabulous! I had no idea that raffia sandals are popular now, so thanks for getting me up to date. Wishing you a great day as we pause to thank everyone that made the ultimate sacrifice for America!

  4. Good BFMD. Yes, we need to get more into the spirit of the Lord when we are anxious or in fear. Thank you for bringing this up since there is so much turmoil in the world.
Loved your outfit! So put together, but casual and classy. Have a great Memorial Day yourself. Remembering the armed forces and police today, as I remember my dad,
whose birthday would have been today. He passed away 4 years ago. He was also in the Korean conflict. God bless.

  5. I appreciate that you are using this forum
to not only encourage women to ‘get dressed for their day’ but to also dress their hearts with the Word. Our outside can look beautiful, and in this present day there is an obsession with self, while the inside shows the results of being sadly neglected. Or as you said, most of our anxieties can be traced to a spiritual
problem. Jay Adams addressed this wonderfully in his books. We are to bring every “thought captive” to Christ. But, we can only do that when we are transformed by His redeeming power. Then we are truly dressed for our day, “in His righteousness.”

  6. I love your outfit, Kay! The sandals are lovely, but I really like the linen jacket as a nice lighter option instead of a jean jacket. But what resonated with me and ministered to me was your postscript devotional – thank you, it’s perfect for me today!

  7. Hi Kay,
Blessed for my day spoke to me today in a big way.I have a fear of closed in spaces and airplanes. We are going across the pond for the first time in August and I am definitely going to take your advice and root myself in the word and memorize Psalm 56:4. Thank you for always blessing us with your insight!

  8. Kay, please be careful when making statements about anxiety and if it is a spiritual matter or not. While I believe Satan can raise havoc in our lives, anxiety isn’t a spiritual issue most of the time. I am a mental health therapist and work with tons of clients with this issue. I just want you to be careful please

    1. Hello Linda. I completely understand that there are mental and even physical health issues at play in some forms of anxiety. I simply stated that there are often spiritual implications as well. I wholeheartedly believe that our beliefs about God and His Word impact more of our life than we are usually aware of. And while I certainly try to be sensitive to the fact that there are sometimes other underlying causes for anxiety I do not waver on this position. I am grateful that there are plenty of people and doctors sounding the alarm for mental and physical health, but someone has to remind us to take of our spiritual woman, too. Like I said, I have been treated by my doctor for situational anxiety and I definitely encourage people to talk with their healthcare providers about similar things. But my role here is to remind us to also evaluate how we are thinking about God and His Word. I believe in a holistic approach to health.

  9. Your BFMD really resonated with me today. I have been struggling with an increase in anxiety as well (albeit a different situation) and I think the more we share that we are struggling with others, we begin to see that others struggle as well with similar issues and we do not feel alone. Thank you for sharing.
