Scripture Meditation & Memory at DFMD 2023

Happy Lord’s Day, sweet friend. Thank you for joining me here. There’s a good chance that I’m on my way to the airport or even flying to Dallas as you read this blog post today. Or maybe, the good Lord willing, I’ve already landed and I’m trying to adjust to the heat. Ha!

Do a sister a favor and whisper a prayer for me, if you will. It may sound frivolous, but I could use a little courage and confidence about now. I’m going to the LTK Con, which is a conference for influencers. Probably 95% of the 300 influencers there will be in the 20s and 30s, skinny as a rail with fresh, tan skin and long flowing hair. Ha! Yes, there will be others my age (and size!) there, but you probably know what it feels like to be a small fish in a big pond…swimming a little slower than the rest, too.

I’m truly looking forward to the conference and it’s a huge honor even to receive an invitation. So I know I have every reason to feel confident and cool. But, well, you know… Just pray for me, sweet friend. I appreciate it.

By the way, I do not know those people above and below. Ha. It’s a stock photo. I figured I’d go ahead and share that since someone would probably ask. But they look happy, don’t they?

Since I’ve been hobbling around the past couple of weeks and it turns out to be arthritis in my foot, I thought this verse was fitting for me. I came across it sometime in my daily reading this past week and it really refreshed me. Maybe it will do the same for you. Have a blessed day! I look forward to reading about our scripture choices.

  1. Such an encouraging verse! The NIV version states it this way – “…I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” I love that God will sustain me – give me the strength to move forward where he leads, or where and when I am afraid to move forward. And that He will rescue me! Gotta love our encouraging Lord!
    Praying for you, that God will carry and sustain you through this conference and beyond.

A peace and calm always come. I actually stand a bit taller with renewed confidence.I’ve been following you for a while. You have nothing to fear. You’re all class.   8. Kay, Your cheerful light and kindness brightens my day and I pray that you will be aware of this natural gift of yours during this exciting conference and know deep down that you are timeless. Thank you for your comforting scripture which I’ll share with my sweet elderly mother who is feeling the woes of growing older. How comforting to know your scripture is true. I’d like to share a scripture from Exodus 14:14 ESV: The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent. Do you ever feel that some circumstances are unfair in your life and you want to act out or say something to defend yourself? I’ve been feeling this way a bit and when I do, I refer to this verse and rest in silence and peace knowing that God is in every detail of my life and will settle every account and take care of me. I’m so grateful for this blessing. And I’m sure it has saved me from saying something or reacting in a way I might regret later. xo, Sally

  10. Thank you for your scripture today. I have been feeling weary and tired; my age and body slowing me down a bit. I have missed the last 2 scriptures in that place.
    And even today I had chosen a scripture (Is:40:31) but it didn’t feel quite on for me. This one that you have chosen resonates so deeply I started to cry as I read it.

    I, too, have been having heel pain about the same length of time as you have. You are probably wondering how your foot will hold up during your conference. I will pray for you that it does.

  14. Good morning, sweet lady! First, let me apologize for any misunderstanding regarding my”Ralph Lauren model” comment the other day….ABSOLUTELY meant as a high compliment… you slayed the look. Lovely, classic:) Now, let me promise you my prayers as your attend the conference! If our lives as women could be compared to handbags, the lovely young ladies there are at the stage of clutches… where as you, with your wisdom, elegance, experience, and precious Christ-following heart, are a beautiful tote that carries many treasures. Obviously, we can learn from the younger generation, but God designed us to glean wisdom as we grow older, and you carry yourself with an elegant air of confidence that is unrivaled, because you are His and He is yours. Such a lovely addition to that conference! I am imagining all the women there that are in their “springs and summers” of life, (a blanket of greens) and then there’s the blazing beauty of autumn color! That’s you! No getting around it, You will be a blessing to the other ladies, I just know it!

  17. Praying for you! I do understand this feeling of not quite fitting in and pray you find confidence in the Lord this week. When I was growing up, my Mom struggled with the aging process but found it hard to understand. I looked at my mom and saw a beautiful strong godly woman, and marveled at her beauty and how she could ever struggle with lacking confidence. But we are human. I decided right then as a young girl that I would celebrate all my years and not be afraid to age, but work to age gracefully. That’s exactly what you are doing. We should be delighted in aging and all the wonderful wisdom the Lord grants us through it. The Lord has blessed you with beauty and wisdom. Enjoy your trip!

  20. Kay, your scripture totally resonates with me today as my swelling in my foot and sore knee are beating me up bad, so I will focus on this verse as well. I hope and pray your foot heals, 🙏, especially during your conference. And remember, to so many of us you have inspired with your style and loveliness, you belong at that conference front and center! Envision how Coco Chanel would make an entrance and work it, girlfriend!😉

      1. You are most kind and I so appreciate the healing prayers. I’ve battled lymphodema in my foot since I was about 18 and now it often affects both feet. So many days, especially now in autumn humidity, it’s like shuffling bricks beneath me. This however is nowhere near the pain of great loss, as I know you can relate all too well. I see her smile in the beaury of the falling leaves and my tears still fall right along🍂🍃🍁😞 I guess it’s still my season to mourn. But, through it all, I know to never let go of God’s Hand. Some days like today unfortunately, I have to hold on tighter than ever.

    I will most certainly pray for you, as I know just the feeling you are talking about. Also, I had a version of your scripture a month ago and have been praying it over my 97 year old mom. I love the idea that at this time of her life, God is carrying her.

    My scripture is from John 5:17. “In His defense Jesus said to them, My Father is always at His work, to this very day. He has never stopped working, and I am working too.”

    I’ve been needing reassurance and signs that God is working, and God is giving me little nudges. I’m so grateful. Kay, have a wonderful trip, and be ready to tell us all about it.

  28. This year has been such a trial at work, and I continue to struggle. I’m learning some hard lessons and seeking to honor God in the midst of it. So my verses today are Matt 5:43-46.
    “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?“

  29. I prayed for you, Kay. I can imagine how you feel. In Japan the elderly are revered for their knowledge and wisdom-not so in America! You have so much to offer even if others don’t see it. In similar situations, I have found that if I put myself forward and show a genuine interest in others, they are drawn to me (and the Light of Jesus in me) and they overcome their prejudice of older people.
    It is something that hardly anyone talks about. You look lovely and approachable-you can do it:) !!!!!!

    I went to a conference in Guadalajara (many countries meeting together to discuss promoting Biblical values). I overcame my deep fear of speaking to address some issues and give my input. Dressing appropriately helped to up my confidence. Thank you, Kay!

    Thanks for your transparency. I know what you mean!!! I also know that when I feel that way, It’s typically just before my thought limitations are blown out of the water by God’s grace as I encounter opportunities to speak my words to encourage others.

    Those tan long-haired sweet 20-something’s and every other age face the same fears, cultural expectations and demands as we do but without decades of experience seeing God show up with favor, grace, protection, healing and the Holy Spirit’s wisdom. So, you go, girl!

    I didn’t have anything in mind but saw Anne’s verse which resonated: They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green. Psalm 92:14.

  33. I am using your verse this week. I am 75 and seldom feel it. Today I do.
    My is the NKJV version. Isaiah 46:4
    Even to your old age, I am He, and even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear;
    Even I will carry, and
    will deliver you .

    Those you women in their 20s and 30s are more nervous than you. They have not gained your years of experience and are not as accomplished as you.

  34. Well, I can really relate to the “old age” scripture, haha, but today I was struck by one that we actually read in church. It is so fitting for our political and social times we are in, and it is something I try to impart on my students every day.

    Philippians 2:3-4

    Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others.

  35. Kay -You may feel some apprehension – we all worry when we don’t need to – so we all get what you are taking about.     Kay, you are an example of a person with the qualities of this scripture. Let you true self shine at this conference. You come with wisdom and knowledge about your topic and have the grace of God that shines through you and supports you.

    This verse makes me happy. I pray that as I commit God’s word to memory, I can teach by example the praise of God and gratitude towards him for everything he has given to me.

Getting on a plane in the morning to go to a fun locale – will be on my own for a few days – then attending my brother’s wedding on a beach. All of it will be both fun and outside of my comfort zone!     I have thought about this verse for the past week after hearing a sermon at church. My words have the power to build up someone or destroy them. My words can produce good or evil. James spoke about the tongue in Chapter 3:8-10 and how that man blesses God and curses other people with the same tongue. That really resonated with me, especially in the angry world in which we live. How can I say something ugly to another person and then turn around and praise God with the same tongue? I pray that God will help me to speak words that build up others and bring glory to HIM.

  92. I am late posting this, but it has been a very difficult week. We have already been dealing with my husband’s cancer and my sister-in-law went home to be with the Lord suddenly on Monday. I don’t know how anyone could do it without the Lord!
