Today we’re heading back to the fitting room! Sometimes I really do wish you were there with me when I’m trying on clothes. Fitting rooms can be harsh on the ego, amiright? And if this post proves nothing else, it definitely reminds us that no one can wear absolutely everything. We all have to try lots of things on before we find those pieces that really fit well and flatter. Enough said. Join me for a spring Chico’s fitting room session.

Sizing

I weigh about 155 on a good day and I’m holding steady so far at 5’8″ tall. I have an hourglass shape and balanced proportions. That’s just to give you reference when you’re looking to see how these items fit on me.

I generally wear size 8 in tops, bottoms and dresses. But I sometimes wear the curvy fit size 8 if they are available. Chico’s sizing is a little different, although they have begun including classic sizing on their tags. At Chico’s I generally wear a size 1, which is the equivalent of an 8. So unless I tell you otherwise, those are the sizes I’m wearing. I’ll also alert you if something runs small or large; otherwise, assume it runs true to size. That way I can focus on other factors.

ONE MORE THING…in all the photos I’m wearing my Naturalizer Kerry Sandals, my Kendra Scott Addie gold drop earrings, my Kendra Scott Elisa gold and silver pendant, and my Nordgreen Infinity watch (use code KAYHRMS for 15% off). My bracelets are all recent purchases from Talbots, but they are now sold out.

No-Iron Linen Tunic // Chico’s does a great job with linen. They generally have a wide variety of colors and garments in linen. I grabbed this No-Iron Linen Tunic to try with these striped pants specifically. But I’ve included some other nice linen tops in the shopping widget at the bottom of the post. I’m wearing my usual size 1 here and it definitely has an oversized fit.

No-Iron Linen Tunic // Microfiber Tank // Striped Pull-On Button Hem Crops

Microfiber Tank // I only tried on the Microfiber Tank with this outfit because I couldn’t find a different tank to use. Stores have so much less inventory than they show online these days. But Chico’s Microfiber Tanks are good and they work with a variety of outfits. They come in a wide range of colors and fit true to size.

Chico's Fitting Room
Striped Pull-On Button Hem Crops // Microfiber Tank // Textured Stitch Cardigan

Striped Pull-On Button Hem Crops // But I really liked these Striped Pull-On Button Hem Crops. They are soft and comfortable, but so summer-worthy. These 100% linen pants have an elasticized waist in the back and a flat front. They feature side pockets and faux back pockets. These could be a workhorse in a summer wardrobe. TTS.

Textured Stitch Cardigan // I had high hopes for this Textured Stitch Cardigan, but I’m not very impressed with it in the photo above. It looks great on the Chico’s website however, so maybe it’s just this outfit I don’t care for. Anyhow, a Textured Stitch Cardigan like this is perfect for concealing the arms a little without adding heat. I highly suggest this type of topper if you live in a warm climate and want to add a little interest and texture to an outfit without adding warmth. It also comes in navy.

Chico's Fitting Room
Microfiber Tank // Textured Stitch Cardigan // So Slimming Brigitte Vent Crops

So Slimming Brigitte Vent Crops // I’ve never felt comfortable wearing the So Slimming Brigitte Vent Crops, but I have thicker legs than many. So if you’re legs are thinner than mine, I can highly recommend these slimming pants. I appreciate their flat front panel and the silhouette. And the 76% rayon, 21% nylon, 3% spandex is very comfortable and nice looking. They come in a variety of colors and right now they are 21% off.

Tie-Neck Poplin Dolman Popover // I love the crisp feel of this Tie-Neck Poplin Dolman Popover. The 78% cotton, 19% nylon, 3% spandex fabric is polished but full of great stretch. It looks crisp, but feels soft. With 3/4 length dolman sleeves and a trapeze silhouette, the top would be cool and comfy on hot days. I love the lace-up neckline, which is very on trend right now. The white is full price right now, but the top also comes in navy and a caramel color. And both of those colors a deeply discounted. TTS.

Tie-Neck Poplin Dolman Popover // Convertible Poplin Cargo Crops

Convertible Poplin Cargo Crops // I LOVE these Convertible Poplin Cargo Crops. I purchased similar shorts from Chico’s a couple of years ago and wore them to pieces. These adjustable length pants are 98% cotton and 2% spandex and feel both crisp and soft. Above I am wearing them with the hemline buttoned up with the side button tabs. But they actually unroll another two inches for a length and longer, fuller silhouette I would prefer. Unfortunately I neglected to take any photos of them that length. But you can see them on the website. The Convertible Poplin Cargo Crops come in navy (shown here), black, olive green and creamy beige. They fit true to size; I’m wearing a 1, but they do come in half sizes, too. That simply means a 1 is an 8, whereas a 1.5 would be the equivalent of a 10. These are GREAT summer pants.

Chico's Fitting Room
Convertible Poplin Cargo Crops // Microfiber Tank // Striped Blazer

Striped Blazer // Constructed from machine washable fabric that is 59% rayon, 23% nylon, 14% polyester, 4% elastine, this Striped Blazer is full of stretch and so lightweight. The jacket is unlined. I think it is one that could easily be worn with casual pants like the Cargo Crops, but also with the dressier So Slimming Brigitte Vent Crops. It really wears more like a jacket than a blazer, to me. But I do think it is a great completer piece for spring and summer. The Striped Blazer also comes in a tan and white stripe. It fits true to size, with plenty of room and stretch in the arms.

Striped Blazer
Microfiber Tank // Striped Blazer // So Slimming Brigitte 10″ Slim Shorts

So Slimming Brigitte 10″ Slim Shorts // Whether you get the coordinating Striped Blazer, the So Slimming Brigitte 10″ Slim Shorts are a sweet short for summer. Constructed in that same great fabric, these shorts have lots of stretch with a flat elasticized waistband. They fit true to size.

Colored Denim Shorts // I’m more of a neutrals gal really, but I did want to try on some color since that is really Chico’s sweet spot. And I know a lot of my readers enjoy wearing color. These Colored Denim Shorts come in this aqua shade as well as a cherry pink and orange. They fit true to size. I had them rolled up a bit because that’s how they were on the hanger. But they don’t show them cuffed at all on the website. Hmm. But they would be quite long on me (and I’m 5’8″) without rolling them up like this.

Chicos
Jungle Leaves Easy Tee // Colored Denim Shorts // Cool Brush Easy Linen Tee

Jungle Leaves Easy Tee // The Jungle Leaves Easy Tee looks much better on the website than it does in the photo above. And that is a horrible photo, so definitely look at the Chico’s website. It’s really much more vibrant and fun than shown above. I probably would not pair it with those aqua Denim Shorts, but I was having a hard time finding enough pieces to coordinate. I’m telling you, store inventory just is not what it used to be before the pandemic. Anyhow, I like how the hemline fits close to the body and I appreciate the v-neckline. TTS.

Cool Brush Easy Linen Tee // Constructed in 100% linen, the Cool Brush Easy Linen Tee is 25% off today. It fits nicely true to size and would pair nicely with denim or white pants. It would make a great vacation top.

Chico's Fitting Room
Wide Leg Striped Pull-On Pants //Easy Embroidered Linen Tee

Wide Leg Striped Pull-On Pants // I could have sworn these Wide Leg Striped Pull-On Pants were 100% linen, but alas they are not. They’re 53% linen, 42% rayon, 3% spandex and 2% other fiber (???), which probably makes them less prone to wrinkles. They are machine washable. I think these Wide Leg Striped Pull-On Pants would make a great summer closet essential. I really appreciate the full length of these full bodied pants. They do also come in a tall length, but it looks like the petites or short length are sold out. I found these pants to run large, so I sized down to a .5. Above I’m wearing the 1.

Easy Embroidered Linen Tee // I love this Easy Embroidered Linen Tee. It does run large. I’m wearing the 1 above, but it fits me larger than it appears in the photo. They didn’t have a 0 in the store, but I tried another color (below) for fit, and I’d definitely order a size down. This 100% linen tee works really nicely with the neutral colored Wide Leg Striped Pull-On Pants because the trim around the neckline is in a similar color with a little gold sparkle woven in. The Easy Embroidered Linen Tee is 25% off today. And it’s also available in coral here and white here.

Tee and Pants
Wide Leg Striped Pull-On Pants (sized down) //Easy Embroidered Linen Tee // Linen Easy Pullover Tee (sized down to 0)

Linen Easy Pullover Tee // I tried on the Linen Easy Pullover Tee in a size 0 because they didn’t have the Easy Embroidered Linen Tee in that size and the sales clerk wanted me to try it for comparison. I know it looks tight in the photo above, but it wasn’t. And I definitely prefer the trimmer fit of the 0. So you might consider sizing down in these tees if you want a trimmer fit or going with your regular size if you prefer something looser. The Linen Easy Pullover Tee comes in several great summer colors, is 100% linen and should be handwashed.

Chico's Fitting Room
Similar Dolman Popover in pink // So Slimming Girlfriend Fringe Ankle Jeans // Tie-Neck Poplin Dolman Popover

So Slimming Girlfriend Fringe Ankle Jeans // I’m not normally one to wear embroidery on my jeans, but it’s trending and I’ve been trying it out (as in this outfit). And I really like these Girlfriend Fringe Ankle Jeans. They fit true to size; I’m wearing a 1. They’re a nice length and I don’t think the embroidery chops up the leg the way some trims do. These jeans are 92% cotton, 6% polyester, 2% Lycra® spandex and they have a high waist, but not too high. They’re also available in tall, but seem to be sold out in petite.

I can’t find that popover in the photo above (on the left), so it may be sold out. I didn’t really like it anyhow. Ha! But I found this Similar Dolman Popover in pink and I think it may be a great option. Bold colors are really in this year, as are popovers.

I apologize for the fact that so many items I showed seem to be sold out in petites. I don’t have any control over that of course, but I do try to try on items that many of my readers may be interested in. For a fuller vision of Chico’s petite offerings check HERE.

Chico’s does have their Brigitte pants marked down to $59 today. That’s a significant savings. They also have current offerings marked down as much as 60% throughout the store. Several of the items I shared here are indeed marked down. Here’s a shopping widget with the items I shared as well as a few more of my favorites that weren’t in the store that day.

Blessed for My Day

Have you been waiting for a while now? I know that feeling. I don’t enjoy waiting in line at the grocery store, traffic light or bank, much less waiting for God to answer a prayer or move in the circumstances of my life. Waiting for things to change, develop or come our way is difficult. It wears on us, frustrates and even causes us to grow fretful and anxious.

But we can trust that with God our waiting is not in vain. God is at work. And we can wait on Him with expectation and hope. We do not wait as those who do not even know if what they are waiting on with come to fruition. We wait for God the way a child waits for Christmas morning on the eve before…with expectation, anticipation and excitement. Today if waiting has begun to weigh on you, reaffirm your trust in God. Acknowledge that He is at work and He has not forgotten you. He is preparing good things for His child. Wait with renewed hope and joy.

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
    and in his word I hope;
my soul waits for the Lord
more than watchmen for the morning,
more than watchmen for the morning. ~ Psalm 130:5-6

  1. I did like the textured stitch cardigan on you and also the all white monochromatic look. Of course, it is hard to see everything on line or on site.
Sometimes it is better to try on and touch and feel the item. To see the material and how it is made. Nice stripped pants also. Too bad not more linen in them.
I am like you and am not too crazy about embroidery on my jeans. Every few years they seem to trot them out in fashion and I always say oh no, not again and pass them up,
but these jeans are not too bad with the embroidery on the bottom on the legs. I don’t mind a little I guess. Looks nice on you.
Nice BFMD. Have a great day!

    1. Thanks for your comments, Sherry. The striped pants really feel like 100% linen, so that’s why I was surprised at the contents. I guess they made them out of that kind of fabric to help with wrinkles? And it does give them a bit more give and stretch, too. Yeah, those embroidery jeans are definitely growing on me.

  2. Kay, even when the outfits “look better on the website”, it REALLY helps us to see it on you – a real person! I think Chico’s clothes tend to flatter taller women in general, and you are tall, so it’s even more helpful for us. I don’t think many of us “look like the website.” Thanks for all you do!

  3. Great post, Kay! I’m working on my post-retirement wardrobe and your style essence series has Ben very helpful. Have you identified your spring and summer signature colors yet? Full disclosure here, I am very similar in coloring and style as you and I will shamelessly steal your colors! Thank you so much for the effort you put into your posts and thank James too because his support is important! Your honesty and sincerity is very much welcome as some influencers just “live everything “ and I know that’s just not realistic. May God continue to bless you.

    1. Hi Shelby. I’m so glad you enjoyed the post. My colors for spring and summer are light and cobalt blue, raspberry pink and light pink, kelly green, as well as navy, beige, black and white. I’m also adding some yellow to my wardrobe because it’s so popular right now, but only pieces that I can easily wear with the rest of my colors. Thank you so much for expressing your appreciation. James is right now developing some shots we just took with Talbots clothes. He’s the best!!!

  4. Gosh, Kay! Yesterday I bought the Capri tee you modeled and today the lace up tie popover. You are saving me a lot of time and money. I really appreciate your try on sessions and Chicos is one store that I’m certain of their sizing and fit. Let’s see, you’ve done Loft and Chicos did I miss Talbots yet? I’m raring to order! I love your try on sessions!

    1. That’s great to hear, Connie. I’ll be sharing some Talbots try-ons early this afternoon in the Snapshots section of the blog. Check back in a couple of hours.

  5. Hi Kay! I think you look pretty terrific in the shirts and the cargo crops for casual wear and the striped linen pant for more upbeat (less casual) events. Nearly all the tops look very nice although the white on white is a bit off (might be the lighting or the background). You’ve got a lovely figure and dazzling smile, gorgeous hair and all the elements to look great in nearly everything.

    1. Thank you Paulette. That was the second try on session I did that day, so I feel like I looked pretty haggard. Hahaha! But it’s really about the clothes, not me. And yes, the lighting in Chico’s dressing room area is always horrible.

  6. You sure tried on some pretty pieces at Chico’s! I enjoy having a few linen pieces in my closet for the hot GA weather.
