This week while I’ve been on vacation in Michigan, I’ve been browsing through some of our favorite brands looking at their new arrivals for early fall. I’m finding gorgeous transitional styles featuring a lot of blue and brown, two of the trending colors for the year. At J. McLaughlin you’ll notice that their transitional garments are truly that: pieces you can begin to incorporate into your outfits now, but enjoy into early fall. Today I’m sharing my August favorites from J. McLaughlin.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

J. McLaughlin is known for their effortless and enduring styles with a modern twist. Many of their garments have a preppy or coastal vibe but they’re also distinctly feminine and elevated. I’ve noticed as I’ve shopped them through the years, that their fabrics and designs tend to be geared for warmer climates, even though they are headquartered in Brooklyn, New York. So they’re a great brand to lean into during transitional seasons.

I recently got in this beautiful off-white and dark blue silk blend dress (c/o). I got the medium and it fits true to size. You could wear this lovely dress for work, church or even an autumn wedding or other special event, depending on how you style it. Unfortunately I haven’t taken a photo of that one, but I have a video that I’m going to post on Instagram stories later today.

The linen dress (c/o) above is also J. McLaughlin’s new August line. The fabric says summer, but the deep blues serve as a prelude to autumnal skies to come. I wore this on a recent very hot day and it served me beautifully. It would make a great vacation dress, too. It runs true to size; I’m wearing a medium.

I’ve collected more of my August 2025 favorites from J. McLaughlin in the shopping boutique below. You’ll notice a wide assortment of wear now and wear later pieces. Depending on where you live and where you’re going, these beautiful styles could work well in your later summer and early fall wardrobe. To shop, just click on the image of the item you’re interested in. I’ve collected quite a few favorites here, so you may need to use the scrolling bar on the right to see all of my options.

Blessed for My Day

Today may you experience peace and unity in your most significant relationships. Unity is one of those sweet characteristics we tend to take for granted until discord takes its place. But like harmonizing notes on a keyboard, sometimes we just require a little space in order to keep the music between us sweet.

Do you need to step back a little from a dissonant relationship today in order to appreciate the other person for their unique qualities? Maybe you’ve been trying to control or contribute too much. Or maybe they just need some time to sort through some things on their own. Allow God to fill the space between you and the other person. Seek Him instead of them. And let Him continue the work He’s already begun in your heart as well as the other person’s.

Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. ~ Romans 15:5-6

xoxo, Kay

  1. I love J McLaughlin! I have a few of their pieces. The only thing I wish is that they carried petite sizes. The long midi dresses, I usually have to have hemmed. Glad you and James had a very lovely vacation.

  2. Would you consider doing a post about stylish options for ladies who have experienced hair loss due to chemotherapy or for other reasons? I have not experienced this personally but of course know ladies who have! They have worn wigs and baseball caps, but I thought there are surely more options for women who want to be comfortable and also look stylish during a hard time.

    1. Thank you. I am currently experiencing extreme hair loss, handfulls daily, and it is frightening. All medications and supplements have not had an effect, yet. I am struggling and trying to stay positive.

    2. That’s a very compassionate idea. I’ll add it to the list. I’m not sure I know much to offer, but I can research it. Right now scarves worn around the head are very on trend. And because scarves add color and interest, I think they’re a great idea. That said, I’ve not had experience with this personally so I don’t know all the nuances of the situation. I’ll definitely check into it however. And if other readers have tips to offer here that would probably be the best advice of all.
